    This becomes so much more when you realize Madison scrapped their entire 1976 show, then came back on tour and almost WON. There's never been a better drum corps statement made before or since. Chris Metzger is the best screaming soprano of all time!

    1976 was a tough season for the Scouts as they attempted to defend their title. After a mid season redo of their show, they achieved a hard earned second place.

    In my opinion, DCI, has turned the activity, into a marching band competition, superimposed on a three-ring circus. They need to stop referring to, Drum Corps International, and start calling it, marching band International. Call it what it really is today. We no longer have, Real Drum and bugle c o r p s. May they all rest in peace. Form a member of the Long Island sunrises, Real Drum and bugle Corps.

    My god. this is absolutely beyond perfection. Real MARCHING and PRECISION.Musician ship ! College Bands and Corps don't march anymore. I know what it is to step ankle bone to knee bone like these men did. It is hard work and to get that kind of sound, it is just overwhelming. and I am not an old corp person either but I marched in a college band during this era.

      Some college bands still do. Check out Nofork State University Spartan Legion. FAMU And North Carolina A&T Blue and Gold Marching Machine. All three are HBCU'S NSU and NCAT mixes Courp style and Show style or Traditional 8to5 style of Marching.

      Madison alumni that marched that year don’t like talking about the first show. It had an opener of the theme from Shaft, there was some stuff from The Wiz in there with a closer of Diana Ross’ “Do you Know” from Mahogany, and a Ray Baumgardt original composition.

      I carried the American Flag in the Scouts. It was a real honor and one that was respected by both members and fans. In those days during a parade people would get up from sitting on the curb as the flag passed. People loved their country then rather than worrying about how much they hated the other side.

      You were only missing a few notes. Second line Ab, and Eb, D, Db below the staff. Everything else was there from low A on up. It constrained the arrangers somewhat, sure, but it was workable.

    • @Mark-sj3xb
      @Mark-sj3xb 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Mark Super Fly - I agree. Madison’s horn line ushered in attempts at a more refined sound in ‘75, but BD ‘76 just came out of nowhere and refined the sound even more and set a new standard in overall show quality and presentation. No longer were military style marching with straight lines and pinwheels acceptable anymore after ‘76. BD was the standard

    Today drum corps is real crap. I used to march in a small corp from Wi. What I see now days is a joke. What I mean is we used to make jokes about drum bugle and bass guitar corps. Now it is here. And whoever introduced keyboards to drum corp is a true idiot. Ampliphiers are worse yet. Don't they know that people want to here real sound? We are bombed enough with electronics and fake sound.

    • @djhighlightz4708
      @djhighlightz4708 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      ***** okay let me set you straight real quick. This is a video of 1976 Madison Scouts playing one of America's classic Tunes. It's not garbage but I guess if you think that then I guess you also believe that the Star-Spangled Banner is garbage to right? They did a very great job and the company front was awesome you never see company fronts like that anymore and you never hear high notes like that anymore. All of todays shows are filled with electronic sounds and a bunch of blobs running around the field it doesn't make any sense and you hardly know any of the music. Probably written by some composer who couldn't make it in the real world so they hired him to write the show for cheeper. What pisses me off the most is when people immediately defending the kids saying they're very talented don't bash them they worked very hard. But nobody ever said the kids weren't talented or that they weren't working hard for what they did.
      Anybody who thinks DJ speakers sound boards and pianos belong in drum corps are lunatics. I'm a DJ and playing a DJ setup is not that talented. Real Drum corpse or even marching band for that matter don't be long using eletronics. Those type of things belong on a stage and a Broadway show. These people in this video are actually playing instruments instead of eltronics. Don't say pussy Lame week when these drum corps play at least 2x louder then kids could ever play today. Real Drum corpse is pit, drums, horns guard. So please if you don't like old school drum cord then stay off the Real Drum Corps videos and watch your Broadway eletronic garbage some where else and let us have our Glory moments.

      John Flannery might wanna watch Madison scouts 95 before you go spouting nonsense. Or scouts 87 or Garfield 84 before you get too hyped on the modern stuff. Modem stuff is really cool, but nothing sounds like a G bugle Corp. nothing.
