The new Anakin Jedi Starfighter is awesome value for money. Like you said the only downside is the landinding gear but other than that it packs as much fun as sets far more expensive. Want a cheap iconic STar Wars fighter in lego for a gift...you got it :):):):):):):):)
I'm pretty sure Anakin's hair has changed since 2008. Although it looks the same, the mold has changed if you take a look. I'm going to try and buy this set before it leaves stores. Great video!
I remember getting the ship in 08. And the description said “as seen in the new Clone Wars movie” or something to that effect and I had already seen the movie and Anakin didn’t even use it in the movie. You only get a glimpse of it in the beginning with the narrator.

When I worked in retail I managed to get the newer set for about £9.99 because it was ex display. All the pieces were there but it was sold to me in a plastic bag with no box😅
On the new one there is also a small storage compartment directly in front of R2D2, under the grey sloped piece. You can put a bunch of the spare stud ammo in there or the spare lightsaber hilt.

The 2008 one was the first Jedi Starfighter I ever got, I still have it. I think I'll get the new one too, as it's so cheap and would be a great anniversary type of set.
I have the 2018 model, and, don’t have the 2008 model, so I just took of the landing gear on the new one, and while yes it sits on the engines, it’s more stable and is more accurate in that it’s lower.
I picked up the 2018 last night for 16 bucks. Great set for the money. I am so ready for new clone wars sets with the new season coming out. Can't wait to see what's coming.
The 2008 is an absolute classic. When I think of LEGO Star Wars I think of this set. Also this new one is also sooooo good and I like that both are $20
While the new one is accurate with the fin's design, it's also a lot thicker than it should be. They should add some yellow flat parts to smooth out the studs on the back and make it look less thick. Also, something you can do with the new version to make it look more the the original is print out the front stickers used on the old one and then put them on the new one. By the way, the landing gear in the new can be improved with minor modifications(you'll need two double circle connectors and a piece that can connect them. Then build your "feet" and then connect them to the grey T connector on the bottom of the ship) so I'd say its worth it.
I have an idea for a landing gear mod, where the second point of contact is at the back, take that off and put two landing legs splayed out either side.
The new one is a great set, but I did like the flag on the back of the old one. The bigger flag I think looked a little better. They had that 3 point landing gear on the old one and that’s what drops the value of the new one quite a bit. I’m working on a way to improve the landing points on my new one as opposed to the old one. Overall: I give the new one a 9/10
I hate how high the cockpit is on the modern Delta-7s. While the Atlantis canopy piece is generally more accurate than the old one, the whole assembly of the cockpit shouldn't be that heavily raised from the body of the craft. There aren't supposed to be defined flat vertical walls on the sides; it throws off the whole arrowhead silhouette.

The only thing R2D2 minifigure improved in was printing. I think the next step in this characters evolution is a turning head so that way you don't have to keep taking it off to change direction.

My friend bought me the 2018 set as a christmas present, it was really fun to build with lego after so long time.
I have fond memories of the 2008 set because it was my first Star Wars lego set, and the set that made we want to start collecting lego!
I actually love this set. It was really fun building it over and over again.
I actually like the landing gear on the new one, it allows me to set up my starfighters like their in flight.
I think that if the engines weren't mounted on the gear then the three-gear system would be fine.

You can replace the round plate on the bottom of the new one with a horizontal 2x4 to give the back of the ship a more sturdy design.
8:26 They are actually NOT the same color. The studs are light green and engine thrust is neon yellow/green.
While I never had the opportunity to buy the older version, I certainly have the newer one and I’m loving it

Something I used to stabilize the 2018 set is a 4x4 circle piece, it doesn't make it 100% stabile, but it helps

for the 2018 starfighter landing gear you could take off the back pieces bend the front tehcnic gear and rest it on the engines
