Nice video! On a different channel a guy showed the view from the cockpit of helicopter and he was dropping sono bouys. How do i get into the aircraft? Can I also control the ships?
That would be a mod. I'm not sure which one but there is a big modding community for the game. I primarily play vanilla ad this is more of a side game for me that I don't dedicate much time to. Still an amazing game though!
If this is like Red Storm Rising (which I'm a pro at), then you want to set your PAP (that blue square, when firing) not directly behind a target. When your torpedo goes active, you don't want to make the enemy think the Torp came from a straight line from you. You want to throw it way out to the sides before you set it active and home in. Like activating it in a direction so that when it goes live, the enemy will fire down that bearing. Well you want that bearing to not be the direction towards you. Attacking from the sides.
I just started playing this recently. Did all the tutorials in the game but wanted to know a bit more. Great tutorial video you made here, helped a lot, thanks! Go Navy! 🍁⚓
Just got the game and this tutorial helps a lot. I’ve actually just completed the tutorial that you demonstrated on and I’m just overwhelmed with control options. Lol. Since this is a bit dated has the updates brought anything new I should know before sending my crew to their graves?
Playing this game again after a time and oeff thought what did i stepp into again. But within no time i got the hang of it again. Love these missions where you have to drop off special units. Keep a low profile they say. Me going all in sometimes just full send it to the top and shoot some missiles and sending the crew down with mach 5 again. So much fun to see the ships go down left and right of you, just to hear after the mission ends this was not you target. 😂
No problem and thanks! I enjoyed doing it and this is a game I drift back and forth to because it's great brain candy and not multiplayer so it's a good game to kick back and get your Hunt for the Red October on.

I have a question for me very important because I am about to buy this game. I really really need to know if it is possible to control the ship using WASD controls. I see that you are clicking where the ship goes, but I like to be more hands-on
On the bottom right of the screen where it shows your tubes, click the tube and cycle through the weapons you have by hitting the R key. It is important to note you only have access to what you loaded aboard when you were last in port. If you want Harpoons, TLAMS or TSAMS you need to load them aboard at Holy Loch. hope this helps!

@10:10 I don't think that they have a harder time 'hearing' you when you're below the thermal layer. It's not like you changed the amount of water between you and the enemy much at all by going deeper. You've made the water more dense by going lower. The sound will still move through that denser water, but it will do so more slowly and will bend. They'll actually have a harder time plotting your distance with accuracy. They'll have your bearing, and possibly your heading somewhat, but they'll also have a harder time calculating your estimated speed. Distance is difficult to calculate with that thermal layer interfering. In short, their plot on you will not be very accurate if they're not on the same layer as you are. Same with another sub. If the other sub is in the same layer as you, both of you should have pretty good plotting information on each other. But when you're separated by that layer, either you above and enemy below, or enemy below and you above, the distance readings are simply unreliable and can vary enormously from the actual distance. You get a similar effect with light waves as you get with sound waves -- when passing through transparent mediums. If you create a layer of transparent material such that the top layer is less dense than the bottom, when you shine a light through that medium, the difference in densities actually causes the light to slow down and bend while it passes through. The same happens to sound waves under the water. I have the game as well, and I have noticed that this effect will often cause you to launch a torpedo at an enemy in the right direction, but you'll sometimes set the torpedo to activate too late -- essentially activating after it passes the enemy surface ship -- caused by thinking the ship was farther away than it actually was. I usually set mine to go live & passive back & forth 'seeking' sooner as a result. I've seen others show that, at least in this game, passive seeking torpedoes seem to be more reliable than actively seeking. Jive Turkey, an actual retired sonar operator who plays, seemed to take issue with that as well. He seems to believe that they've dumbed down the active seeking on the torpedoes, relative to real life...
