With so much of the gap reduced by the egg isn’t your hook up ratio reduced?

In this particular video i used a #12 for an 8mm otter egg. I only tie the 8mm egg on a #10 hook now because I didn't like so little hook gap, even if I biased the spearing of the egg a little high. For the 6mm egg I still use a #12 hook. I never experienced a reduction in hookups, I switched just because of personal preference.
