Hi Darren, seriously that's the best instruction I've seen for this pattern. I haven't tied them, only glo bugs. In fact I thought the name meant the fish are a sucker for this fly, you know, like a Mickey Finn, when you slip someone a "Mickey"" to knock them out. I was in Dick's, buying some egg hooks that I like, when a couple of guys told me what's up! 😂 I had a good laugh. Great tip on the way you worked the braid, very smart. Do you fish out both ends and put the rest in the bag? I have to find a method for wrapping Estaz type material. I leave it on the card my stuff came on and it's a pain to wrap it. It twists and I have a time getting it to lay back. I never can estimate how much to cut off so I don't come up short or waste to much material. Thanks for the tutorial.👍 I can see why you do this for a living.
+Joe Duca The suckers get think in the rivers up here and that fly is a killer. Yes, I put it all out of the bad and grab the two ends and leave them out of the bag. I get about 12-16 flies out of a package. I tie a lot of these for my NY and PA clients every year. For the Estaz, I take it off the card and just let the end hang out of the bag. With Estaz, I find it has a "grain" so that it wraps differently depending on which end you use. I find the end that lays back when I tie with it and fold the rest into a bag. I don't waste much material, maybe less than an inch per package goes in the waste basket.
Piscator Flies Thanks! I read that about that Estaz and similar chenille recently in a UK tying magazine. You really got to save your overhead being a production tyer. My parents were depression babies. When they raised us we got a smack if we wasted stuff. You're ok Darren, thanks again. 👌😉
Piscator Flies No thank you. I just noticed my notifications were set to occasional. It's now set to all. I wondered why so much lag time. 🍻 to you too!
@Gang Unit Sergeant, Martinez Yes, you should be good targeting trout with this pattern, especially any time of the year that you have spawning in the rivers. Cheers
The fly names are getting out of hand...what next the Heroin Hooker?
that is my favourite fly for atlantics

Sir, is This pattern also effective for catching trout?

Piscator Flies Your reply is much appreciated. Thank you!
That's got to be one of the worst names you could come up with to try and sell something.
Tj Martel agreed, I didn’t come up with it, but the crystal sucker spawn works too.
