brought it because i knew it was going to be great.
the reason the story seems lacking is some important story stuff is exclusive to the game's library under cutscene replays under briefings. including major g universe plot stuff and major anime plot stuff. the story is actually really good and fleshed out.
Literally bought this game 3x 🫠 2 physical copies one for NS and one for PS5 then went with digital deluxe on NS to play with some friends on day one!
I bought it, returned it and ordered the PS5 version. ALOT better 😌
I love all things Gundam related and wanted this to be good but just assumed it was not going to be great. Looks way better than I expected and a series fan I expect I'll be picking it up!
I wish they would make another Dynasty Warriors Gundam. I loved the Musha and Knight Gundams

Who else has a Series X / ps5 and is struggling with the idea of wanting to get it on the switch. This game would be so perfect in hand held mode on the switch but I wish It could look as nice as the other two consoles. Ugh
The most fun I ever had in a Gundam game was Gundam Breaker. The level of customization for your mobile suits is bonkers!
But the grind needed put me off.

My only hangup was that it's an SD Gundam game, but otherwise I'm really into it. Hopefully it does well enough that they decide to go for another DW Gundam, it's a damn shame that this series is stuck in the PS3.
Bro yes every musou game in the world is getting sequels except for that one ! A new dynasty warriors gundam on the new hardware would be amazing. I'm playing dw gundam 3 on my gaming laptop by ways of emulation. Also I think for whatever reason SD gundam is popular in Japan. I don't really get it either but alas it's gundam.
@@cameronsimmons8743 I can see why SD Gundam is popular, they are cute as hell, and it can make it easier and more accessible to collect, but yeah, I prefer the standard proportions for sure.
I've been playing DW Gundam Reborn again after many years, and it is still fantastic.
Got this on a pretty decent sale along with the dlc, put in about 100 hours since then. As a gundam fan, this is a blast, having a fun grinding out levels and maxing out my favorite suits. Tough recommend to not die hard Gundam fans cause it is very grindy

Not usually my thing but might give this a go after watching this.
No dub or physical outside of Asia is such a bummer, but I guess expected. This is the type of game that might be good, but the fan base is incredibly niche. It won't sell well, unfortunately.
For me, the no English dub really hurts it. The demo was a lot of fun so it is on my list of wait and see.
Not being a Gundam fan, this is way to rich for my blood. I wonder how they decided on a AAA price that's even above most 1st party Nintendo games?

Seems a bit low of score with all the positive things said. I know it's expensive but seems fair if the length is decent. Brandai Namco game so would expect to be full price. They usually don't sell shorter cheaper indie games.

I tried the demo it seemed pretty muddy and low budget for a 60 dollar game
It's enjoyable but the Gundam breaker series (2-3 at least) are a much better musou games than this one.

I loved your review and I am a very big Gundam fan, but I swear we must've been playing different games. I played the demo of this game and found it to be slow, obtuse, clunky, and having some of the worst camera control I've ever seen.
I guess what I'm saying is, I'm glad you all enjoyed it.

I honestly don't get the appeal of this super deformed style. Like, "we have these freaking cool mecha designs so instead of using them, let's turn every Gundam into funko pops".

All these Japanese games share the same problem, why can't we ever turn the huds, text or screen clutter off? It's the same with all the musou games too

A fair review. If you're a huge Gundam fan like me then yeah this is gonna be a great game full of all kinds of fan-service. If you're not familiar with Gundam, then yeah waiting for a price drop would be wise.
Bandai Sunrise are to cheap and completely out of ideas, to lanuch a full out story line for for console only, Gundam Games will continue to SUFFER!!!
Why's it got to be "super deformed?" That decision doesn't really _save_ them much, if any work, and only serves to trivialize the mobile suits.
This looks like one of those sweet games that worth waiting till the price is 19$ then finally trying it out.
I'm going to Min-Max every MS. Every mission is diverse enough to keep it interesting too.

My sister and I don't have a lot of games in common, I'm mostly on consoles while she's only on switch. Outside of Pokemon, not much we can play together.
But we have a mutual love of Gundam and have been waiting years for a new co-op Gundam since the dynasty warriors games.
This is the game we've been waiting for. So far it's been a deep and well balanced, but challenging experience and we've enjoyed the grind.
I really, really wanted to get this on switch. But I'm working with a lite, and all of the action on that small screen was a bit much for me during the demo. So I think I'll be picking this up for xbox.

The last Gundam game I played was Journey to Jaburo on PS2 and I really liked it, but never got into any other Gundam games. I loved SD style characters, and after playing the demo I knew I was most likely going to buy it eventually. Thanks for an honest review of it! I just wanted to fight enemies using different gundams, simple and sweet.

Story critical dialog during combat is one of the worst things a developer can do. Honestly makes a good game almost a garunteed non purchase regardless of everything else. and especially no dub.

Aah yes, the common “every machine is a gundam” thing. Gundam only refer to the ones with “gundam” in the name. The grunt units are just “mobile suits”

Thanks for this review - I wasn't plugged into Gundam growing up but I thought it was kinda cool. Still, I don't think this game is for me, only knowing Gundam memes and not much lore. I love licensed stuff that really knows its audience AND the source material, able to joke about the various shenanigans in the plot and lore that cut deeper for core fans - alas I would be missing much of that and that stings. Just like how I played Yakuza 0 first and didn't know who all those "special guest stars" were.

Fan of Mobile Suit Gundam. Wanted at least a decent Gundam game.
Namco games tend to go on sale, definitely no rush to put this in my collection.

My only real issue with the game so far is the false advertisment. Idk if its just me but when you look at the pictures and video for this game on the nintendo eshop they're advertising a really glossed up version of this game with small details like visible rocks on the ground and trees with leaves and even the gundam themselves look shiny and metallic but in reality all you get in the actual game is blurry looking trees with no real details and the gundam have no shine or details to them at all. Im playing on an oled and im pretty sure with games like zelda, oceanhorn 2 and many others with amazing graphics and details, SD gundam couldve looked a lot better than this.

As an existing fan, I'm definitely enjoying this game! I didn't mind paying full price, though I absolutely agree that the story is difficult to get attached to given that I'm trying to play the game and not read subtitles lol.
One thing I think was poorly explained in game is the fact that you don't have to finance your team's mobile suits. As their pilots level up, so do their mobile suits. I wish I realized this a couple days ago lol.

Thanks for the review! I gave the demo a whirl a week or two back and while I didn't hate it, it didn't rock my world either. My biggest gripe was with the dialog not having an English dub. I'm not against foreign films or games with subtitles, but when my focus needs to be on the action, having to read dialog sucks. It was annoying even in the demo when I wasn't really trying to get invested in the story.
Additionally, after asking folks who have played the game thoroughly, I found out that my favorite Gundam series - Gundam Wing - is only sparsely represented in the lineup. That's a big knock against it for me as I'm not very familiar with any of the other Gundam arcs. Not for lack of interest, I just never watched them. Toonami was my primary source of anime viewing back in the early 2000's and Wing was all I ever caught on the air.

I love to see a gundam games that combines aspects of this game , gundam breaker, and bit of zeon vs federation and available for all consoles with english dub. And option have co-op mode for people to join you, whether splitscreen, wireless connecting to consoles together, or online.
I'd say repetitiveness is par for the course for these types of games (not that I mind the grind, means more capital to level up the units) The review is very accurate IMO, (the Japanese dub isn't bothering me much, I just wanna smash em mooks to bits). I just wish the In-fighters have more repair kits, being very up-close and personal to enemies means you get hit by attacks, and if you're can't consistently perform that perfect block + counter it could get dicey on boss fights. One more thing I'd want is to have the option to change the color of your acquired units.
Its a fun game and being a Gundam fan, I don't regret the purchase even if it is pricey lol. Recommended for those who wants some mecha action, too.
i wish some of the transformable gundams like the jet from 00 were able to switch modes without doing a finnisher. I also would have liked to pick which "form" of a gundam you want to use instead of only having their final form.
This! Kinda wish it has similar thing on SDGO where unit can transform and have different weapon in transformation.
Looks like I'll pick this one up on a Steam sale. The Play Asia price is too steep for me.

Such a great review and you never disappoint with diving deep into the games and also it's great learning abiut the history of the series . if I'm not interested in a game I still watch as like with this review you have changed how i felt with the game after trying the demo and I'll have to pick this up at some point.

I tried the demo but it wasn't for me afterall. I miss the Federation Vs. Zeon. I wish they make something like that again. You can feel the weight and differences between mobile suits in that game. Loved using the GMs and Zgoks. Now everything feels floaty. Even the psp japanese games that had a similar theme.

I think it would be cool if you gave the value you rating by price as games regularly go on sale. So maybe at 15 its a steal, but 54 it's not nearly as good

It sucks but that’s a fair score. I played the demo and got the gameplay loop pretty fast.
If this was 20 even $30 less it would be a must buy even for lukewarm fans.
$60 or $84 ( insane) for the delux is hard to swallow. Especially with awesome games coming out later this year. October is stacked with games for other systems.
I had a $70 gift card to get this (ps4) but I’ll wait.

Wow, I just picked up Gundam W for the Super Famicom. What a great 1v1 fighting game. Be fun if a translation of all the Japanese Gundam games for the current gen 😊😊😊
Got my physical copy yesterday, got issue on downloading the early bonus content as pre order bonus, still gives me an error, but overall I'm enjoying this game .. and yeah gundam fanatic here
The dub def hurt understanding the story, but overall i still love the action in the game. Worth a purchase still imo , but ya maybe wait for some discount 1st. Fun game.
My major complaint about this game is that combat is slow compared to Gundam Musou or even Gundam Breaker. I hope it gets better later on.

Its still a great game if you're a gundam fan. I felt the same way about the cutesy art style but man, i just played it for an hour and its intense stuff. Just unlocked the Phoenix Gundam, the game has a very smooth and addicting gameplay loop 👌
I'll probably pick it up at some point just not right now.
I'd play and buy more Nintendo games if every dang thing they put out wasn't chibi or ridiculously animated.

Unless it's Gundam Breaker 3 I don't think the switch will ever have a good Gundam game.
This *is* a good Gundam game. It's just overpriced for consumers outside Japan who had to read subtitles instead of listening to the characters while blasting & slashing opponents.
This is basically DBZ XenoVerse but with Gundam at least that's how I view it

Hard pass, the cartoonish animation is really garbage. Previous gundam titles really got the art style right, and mostly just had flaws with the story/gameplay itself. This looks like we are playing lego Batman or something - just trash and kind of disrespectful honestly.
