Grunts used to get massive love from Artdink. That's one of the stuff the Japanese players on Steam expected. They didn't get that and a lot of Artdink staples, so they left negative reviews. The Western reviews are mostly positive-bombing. The Japanese reviews are mostly detailed, both the majority negative ones & the minority positive.
Welcome to Japan, they do things weird but I think they did this because souls like games do the same thing so that bit was more than likely done to try and get that market to bite.
Funny, when Seed Battle Destiny has most of that & came out years before by the same Studio + in game Striker Pack change mechanic...in non-SD full size form. Battle Alliance is obviously rushed.
The thing I hate about all Gundam games is that Bamco has more than enough resources to make excellent Gundam games, but always seem to half-arse their releases.
This one is obviously rushed when you know Artdink has been making +100 unique units with grunts of Gundam games for 13 years. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if Artdink was only told to start working on this a year prior to its first announcement early 2022.
Probably cause they don't want to bankrupt themselves if they spend a ton and the game is great, but no one buys it cause it's Gundam then they will be deep in the money hole. Overall while I can understand the disappointment BANDAI probably saw the track record decided they would play it safe. Would they learn for the next release that would be question.
@@TheRibbonRed I feel like this one of them go fundme games that is in early access. Nothing feels polished and I see there was going to be much more but bandai doesn't like delaying games. I feel like this as a free game with gacha elements would be fine. Throw some skins in gatcha. Rare parts. Secret ms. Be fine
@@poorlydrawngouf4281 eh, I'd rather have the game be like Macross 30 or Seed Battle Destiny (both Artdink games that came out years earlier) than a live-service that might shut down anyway (two Tales of live services shut down, Gundam Battle Operation Next also shut down).
@@gerogyzurkov2259 bruh, their games get shit ratings and sales because they're bargain bin tier most of the time. Even when they get something that makes good money like GBO2, they can't even be arsed to have the dev team fix the atrocious netcode or update the graphical options.
Tweaking the setting a bit will solve the lag issues. Set the aiming to Center and tun off the “Auto lock” and push the sensitivity to the max, that is how I manage to at least endure the horrible lock on with my mouse. The game is quite hard if you play it “incorrectly” ( Pick an Alex for its SPA and then combine it with pilot skill “Lucky” for Capital farm, use it to upgrade the Alex until the end of the story mode. ) There is a mission for efficient grinding in the late game, which will make switching MS less “tiring”. It’s also required you to be able to guard and dodge the attacks so GG i guess?
keep in mind to have your MS level higher than the stage recommended level, it does affect the damage they deal and take. So in this situation, raising all stat level evenly may be more beneficial than focusing on single stat
If capital is an issue I have a solution for you. What you do is grab the Alex, give it some capital drop ups, and head to the hard version of IBO's final true level. Use the Alex's ult as much as you can because every enemy you hit or kill will now drop more. I recommend going left go back and forth between the first 2 spots (they respawn/replace the enemies) rinse and repeat until 20 on the timer (still testing will update) I did this last night and got 1,776,865 from one play through (the highest I've gotten so far.) Feel free to experiment with this in either the same stage or other stages.
Not sure if it's just me but the Alex feels super slow and clunky but by the time you get to IBO true you can just use the Barabtos Rex which is far faster and has more fluid movement plus higher damage.
I live in Japan so all the online lobbies are full of level 80 Hi Nu Gundam, Reborns, and Barbs which kick you out if you are not level 80 as well. I also wish for grunt suits. It makes me sad to see GM Commands and not being able to use them. Lastly, the capital grinding is rather tedious. Even playing 7B Hard with Alex takes forever to rake up capital.
I love this game but yeah, it have some problem that, if they make a sequel for this game, need to be fix. 1. The grinding is for currency for upgrading your unit is so tedious. Like what you said, even upgrading one unit is a lot of work. 2. The balance of this game is kinda, i dunno, all over the place, especially for the MA bosses. They can be quite tough, even when you already full upgrade your suit 3. The "meta" for this game is heavily leaning to mostly Sharpshooter and some All Rounder. In-fighter is kinda "useless" in this game 4. The lock-on system is kinda awkward. Especially for Sharpshooter, which i usually used. having the lock-on is gone after enemy die and rather than automatically move to the next target, it just gone and it's kinda awkward. The auto lock-on is also kinda janky sometimes 5. Like i said before, the "meta" for this game is Sharpshooter, even though they're squishy, they're so good mainly because how useful their role action is. Reloading all your ammo is such a good skill so you can spam it. 6. In-fighter on the other hand, is kinda hard to use. Their role action is not so good and to be good at using In-fighter, you must master the usage of perfect guard and dash. The thing is, the timing for both of them is so small that it's really hard to do, even if you use part to add the timing 7. About role action for both the In-fighter and All Rounder, they're not as good as Sharpshooter. If i can change them, for In-fighter, make the MS not only can't be stagger by enemy, but also make their melee damage higher and remove or reduce boost gauge usage when using melee as long as the role action is active. Dashing still deplete boost gauge but melee is not. Additional HP for In-fighter i think is also good addition but i don't think it's necessary with how bulky In-fighter MS usually is. For All Rounder, made their combo canceling much faster and remove or reduce the usage of boost gauge, either for melee and/or dashing. Not only that, making the timing for perfect guard for In-fighter and perfect dash for All Rounder easier to execute while their role action is active is also good. I think those change can give In-fighter and All Rounder MS some boost in the game. 8. The pause button maybe can be changed a little bit. If we play offline, let the pause button paused the game. 9. Add more MS. I think 1 or 2 grunt per series is good. I want to play using M1 Astray with Red and Blue Frame as companion Those are the thing that i think they need to fix, excluding adding more MS, if they decided to make a sequel. Other than that, i think this game is good enough
I found the infighter role action to be incredibly useful. It’s a whole minute of not getting stuck in boss combos or getting knocked down/back by MA attacks. Some bosses even make it possible to get a counter/perfect guard after taking the first hit of their combo (normally, you’d be stun locked). However, their longer attack chains can be both a blessing and a liability. Also, why does the role type most likely to be face tanking damage have the fewest repair kit uses?
Personally, my only complaint is that the game doesn't pause. (Also the switch version crashed a few times) But other than that, I really like it. The MA bosses can be rough sometimes (Neo Zeong), but once I approached it the way I do with God Eater bosses; it got a lot more manageable.
This game has grown on me. First I thought this to be a simple shooter, but the game shows quite a deep controls skill gameplay, with evade dashes, guard, perfect guard, counter, rear attack, energy management, etc. I am very impressed by the fluid movement, the amount of control of your character and the great looking and feeling combat this can produce onscreen. The Mobile Suits look great, I love the urban landscapes and while normally the copied moments from anime in animegames look bland, like in Naruto and One Piece games, I find the story moments being bad ass in this game, which might be because of the inherrent bad ass awesome looks of the gundams and the wealth of original dialogue of all the pilots. I really needed a game with blue skies, awesome nighttime city skylines, flashing laser beams and swords and dashing Mecha only Japanese anime can bring and apart from the initial simple looks, this game has really found a spot in my heart. It might be grindy, but the missions are all perfectly bitesize and I love the mix of slaughtering many easy prey, then switch up tactics and use all your core abilities to take down bosses. Anime games have a hard time being more than a simple, mediocre, loveless game created only on the name. With this, I can finally feel the love for the franchise that the devs have. In the graphics, in the cutscenes, in the atmosphere. Is it perfect? Nope, but my only real gripe is that the targetting doesn't unlock right as the enemy hp goes to zero.
All my Mech fan friends and I have clocked in over 100 hours in this game so far. Its such a great game to just hop into and play with everyone. There's a bit of a learning curve when it comes to perfect blocking or getting used to the lock-on system since it likes to maintain lock-on to ensure you can keep combos going though you can swap a target just by moving the right stick which works great for maintaining combo- don't use mouse lol. As for grinding, once you're at the point you can complete 5D Chaos mission on hard, killing all the midboss mobile suits gives you enough money to max out a mobile suit in a single run, usually netting you anything from 15 to 20 million credits. Little combat advice for infighter/all rounders, when you do break the boss's balance meter, don't just immediately go for a launch, finish your light combo string and only go for the launch once the enemy has fully stood up and isn't prone. This will ensure you're launch isn't eaten and is properly registered. Enemies cannot be launched while prone so just keep an eye on the boss, they won't get their balance meter back while you're hitting them so don't worry. Best of luck.
My issue is how powerful the mobile armors are. The final boss is everything wrong with mobile armors. High hp pool. Giant hit box. Busted damage. And to just rub salt into the wonds anti beam shields. Most of the other mobile armors in the game is lacking either hp or beam shield but the g universe ones are flat out bullshit. Oh and I forgot to mention it speed. These things are way to fast for how huge they are. They can no joke be from one side to the other in 3 seconds and do damage to you at the same time
Me: “Okay, the MA is on the other side of the map, time to pop a repair kit!” _MA does a dash attack with a one-second windup and travel time, knocking me over less than 2/10 of a second before the repair kit finishes_ Me: -_-
Agreed, the mobile armor can do so much damage and can kill your entire team in a matter of minutes, well it isn't as painful as fighting Both blue frame and red frame at the same time.
@@poorlydrawngouf4281 lol, if I’m in need of a rez, it’s almost always the AI partner with aggro that tries to bring me back. If a partner needs resurrection, I just try to grab aggro and tank the boss. The AI doesn’t seem to take into account that I’m already rezzing the other one, so it tries to “help,” bringing boss AOEs right to me >
I would have Loved it if they had atleast incorporated the ability to Recolor and Decal parts of your Units much like in the game SD Gundam Capsule Fighter Online, Would have really furthered your ability to really make each unit your own in a special kind of way.
I like this game so far, but I'm seeing a significant lack of SD Tallgeese. I was hoping it would be in there but I don't think the Tallgeese was included so I'm a little bummed. It's my favorite Gundam. That being said it's been fun playing and getting into a different Gundam I've never really known about. I'm sorta new to Gundam so take my opinion with a grain of salt.
They didn't make a different check to see if the game should really pause (singleplayer) or just open the pause menu (co-op). Big shame, also another indicator of this game being rushed.
@@TheRibbonRedThe lack of a pause menu is not an indicator of a rushed game. You can't pause in any of the From Soft games and people love those. 🤷♂️
Agreed the GM Sniper II is solid. Used it a good amount until I got both Char’s Z’gok and Gelgoog, then built up “The-O” for farming. Once I got my farming suit settled I’m currently developing the Gundam ground type.
Beat the game in a weekend. As usual it was a lot of jerking off of the most popular 5 timelines and surprisingly G Gundam, which was good for me as it's my favorite. What was not so good for me was them hyping me up for it and then making me do two whole chapters before getting God Gundam three quarters of the way through the game. My heart goes out to those whose favorite MS was endgame or postgame. Didn't bother with hard mode at all.
One of my biggest pet peeves of this game was the complete lack of waifus. I know most gundam fans just care about the units, but I'm the type of guy who play the G Generation games with a team full of waifus so I was hoping for more ladies to be partners. Was holding out for the DLC but the DLC is also all just dudes. This is exemplified by not allowing you to equip anyone with any unit, so some partners are just bad because their unit is not as good as the later ones. I would've preferred if they just made another G Generation game that had all the series in it instead of the split ones like Genesis and Cross Rays, but I can also understand that action games is what modern gamers want.
Got it on Xbox cause it looked like fun and honestly I’m having fun with it like I’m at the 7th directory and I’m just having fun only problem I have is the lack of folks to call on for fun cause it’s more fun with other players
Im still debating this game, lack of grunts is kinda a killer though. Still fingers are crossed that battle operations 2 isnt just a speck on the horizon that never seems to get any closer.
Waiting for that amazing game to come out too and for them to add a Geara Zulu or Angelos personal Geara to Battle Alliance, need to complete my Sleeves team for solo play. I also feel like it might get more dlc in the future only 3 or 4 items on the store atm, but I'm hopeful.
Hit 80 in 3 day of game play on steam. Ya the mouse lock on is terrible. Lastest patch boost to level 90 just artificial creating grind, lost interest. I really miss SD capsule fighters.
I mostly agree with your review What I personally like from this game is, the surprised reaction from Juno, who only knew "Gundam" from her viewpoint And then surprised many alternate universe, and even become confused about something that we and sakura know, but she doesnt know Example when Sakura mentioning Devil Gundam, we knew about it, but Juno didnt know at all lol Or when Juno confused why Heero Yuy using Wing Zero, lol Or the Quattro's Liutenant joke It's reminds me when my friend asking me to 'teach' him some gundam, and he confused lol he only knew some scene, and some gundam, but not all of them Thats why he confused Additionally, i also like they skipped the repetitif story telling that gundam fans already know of And putting those to library instead everytime the story got introduced ___ But the gameplay aspect, fun at first, frustating some times later.... the grinding, is really hard The sudden difficulty jump makes me surprised... More than many times i slammed into wall hard.... MA battle in this game also frustating lol (But later I got VERY lucky, i got Sharpshooter ranged + changed all attack to physical equip lol) but it still so frustating lol AND THEY ARE SO BIG BUT THEIR MOVES ARE SO FAST actually anger me many times lol
tbh, once i see how many timelines this game is presenting, my hopes and dreams for getting back inside the GM Custom instantly vanished. also, it pains me that Hi-Nu is a post-game unit so i have to use Command until the end (7B True is a good mission to grind for easy money since it lacks bosses, though). and Gatheroad GM is such a pain to unlock. my biggest gripe with this game is how difficult some MA battles can be. and i fear what would happen to me once i start encountering them on Hard mode. at least MA with I Field will get stunned when i do throw enough bullets at it, but others... not much. every other issues i have with the game slowly disappears as i play. and right now i've already clocked 50 hours. grinding is a pain, but i make it to point to only play one stage long enough to get all the blueprints and then moving along. at least until the aforementioned 7B True when enough money are dropping for me to even consider switching suits (something that i did consider but decided not to after i checked what i was about to deal with). the lock-on though... just give us back EXVS style or Gundam Assault Survive style lock on. i actually decided to just turn off auto-lock on and play slowly so that i can adjust the camera angle without drawing attention from bosses. the lack of a proper pause button also caught me off guard, but it seems that the game was designed as a multiplayer game from the ground up. gave this game an 8 because it's been 12 years since Assault Survive AND i'm feeling generous. overall still a good value for money.
I really wanted the GM Gatheroad due to this game's lack of grunt suits but I'm already tired of grinding for Hi Nu and most of the time, the stages dont drop the parts!
It's a big disappointment if you know what Artdink (the one behind this game) is truly capable of. Most of the Japanese Steam reviews are negative because of this. Artdink made games like Gundam Assault Survive & Gundam Seed Battle Destiny. Also their Macross games rock. This? This doesn't feel like Artdink.
I have no idea who Artdink team is but after my experiece with SDGBA they are on my blacklist. I won't touch their game ever again. However I must admit this my fault too because I shouldn't buy any game day one, especially in these day and age.
@@joeyjoe8769 you really should try their older games, even with an emulator. They might not be as smooth in gameplay, but they got one of the largest roster in singleplayer Gundam games with all the main material grunts you could dream of. Wanna play as those 00 Season 1 terror MS? Assault Survive has them. Agrissa? Same game. Sword Calamity? Seed Battle Destiny. Strike Noir that can change Striker Packs mid game? Seed Battle Destiny. Dagger with a Striker Pack? Seed Battle Destiny.
One thing I forgot to add: *You can actually fire most (if not all) weapons on your MS in the older games.* Want the Gundams (AU & UC) to fire vulcans? You can. Throw Santa decoys as Zaku II FZ? You can. Throw Infinite Justice's Beam Boomerang? You can. Shoot the anchors out of Strike Noir, Sword Strike, and Sword Impulse? You can. Literally anything depicted in the anime, they can do. Battle Alliance is clearly rushed. Its announcement was too sudden, and what came out was so obviously not Artdink's style that I wouldn't be surprised they cut out most of the units & abilities to ship this on-time.
Look like the DLC 1 stages are just the reuse stages from the main game too, just how lazy this game can be? No doubt it gonna be the same for DLC2 and 3 too.
Quick correction, I believe the cash you invest IS refundable! When I played I was able to go to my high level suit, start lowering it's stats and I was able to get my cash back quite easily But yeah. It is a bit of a chore, and I do really wonder why you can't pause...? But god is the game fun Plus it just warms my heart to see my boy, the Zaku 2 F Type, go toe to toe with Hashmal and then take it's head out with a Heat Hawk Also Mass Production Rep!!
In the beginning of the game, it says that lowering stats gives you tune points that can only be used on that machine and cannot be carried over to other machines. So if it is possible, then the game lied to me.
The reason you can't pause the game is because of the online feature. So in order for multiplayer to work... they had to make it so that the game is still going even when you have the pause menu up.
Yeah it's such a good game! A lot of the bad reviews ive watched is from people who really dont know how to play the game. They go in expecting an easy hack n' slash but its not that easy. A good way to "grind" is to get the suits from earlier missions and spend the cash from them levelling up another suit you want to while earning new suits. its not grindy at all
Having more MS options would make the grind problem worse with how this game is designed. Also, some missions have way out-of-whack difficulty assessments. There’s one chaos mission rated for level 44 suits that I had no problem clearing in a level 34 Strike Freedom… but a level 34 mission that was incredibly frustrating in the same mech. Also, I hate the partner AI. It’s like they’re intentionally designed to make the dumbest choices possible. You get downed and need a rez? The partner that currently has aggro is the one most likely to try to bring you back. It got to the point where I would hold off on partner SPAs so I could force whichever partner that wasn’t going for the rez to blow it to buy time. I also learned to never go for a rez with enemies around even if the other partner has aggro: all too often, they’ll blithely waltz on top of you mid-rez and draw AOE fire your way. It’s better to grab aggro yourself and tank bosses until the partner completes the rez.
@@Grubilman yep, but the bonus boss was a piece of cake, too. Of course, some MS are just plain better for certain fights than others. For example, the Strike Freedom has insanely high physical resistance stats, so you can tank a lot of damage in levels with physical-oriented enemies. Meanwhile, the infighter role action makes it easy to keep on top of mobile armors since you aren’t getting knocked back or down every time you’re a split-second late with the block. God (i.e., Burning) Gundam can shred the Neue Ziel in a minute with its ridiculous SPA+role action. I just face tank the damage and hammer away as fast as I can.
@@Xenobears isn't boost a Issue tho ? Can you recover it on top of the Mobile armor or you only just Go on top of the Mobile Armor when you have Boost ?
@@SpultoBNMTheMutuallyUnrequited take the boost consumption reduction skills and you can keep attacking for a LONG time. Enough for three or more full attack chains. Plus, if you bring an all-rounder partner, your boost gauge will refill really fast-like half full by the time you hit the ground from a jump.
I had to turn off SSAA. It made my framerate skyrocket and I have no idea why it was on by default and I didn't notice a quality in graphical fidelity anyway.
This game is rushed. The game's SSAA code is probably dragging along some garbage that wasn't meant to be there. Same problem with the lack of pause (co-op based with no singleplayer check) and a lot of QoL problems, including the roster size.
My guy, I thought I was the only looking for the grunts! I've been maining the Guncannon and GMII Sniper since I got it! Sad to hear we don't get more, but I'm hoping they add more with the later updates and season passes.
oh wow. what a cool game! so this needs to be free to all those players who put money in SD Gundam online back in early 20-teens. you know, the people who put in a few hundred or a few thousand over a few years (like 2010 to maybe 2013), and like more or less play tested AND paid money and like, now there is this more polished product from same game. like the ending hook in the music here is same from previous version. like, this should be gifted free, through the same distribution channels - at least to the players in Taiwan and S Korea and HK. Heck, do y'all remember, S Korea even tried to get a competitive scene going but the game kept crashing on live TV. But anyhow, this version looks enjoyable and playable.
Okay one thing I found that helps is turning off Auto lock, and setting Lock on to prioritize closer. You don't need to lock on to grunts, so long as your facing them your weapons will track. Boss fights including MA or MS are when you want to lock on. As opposed to the hashmal fight, which you're going to have decide when and *when not* to lock on for shooting the mines...
Lock on can be mostly fixed by changing to Center Priority. Other than that, this sounds fairly accurate to my experience on Switch. Fortunately the missions are short and there are (especially with the DLC/Hard) some good grinding levels.
9:13 It wasn't just DWG2, the grunts in every game had a reduced moveset. Like how most Gundam has 5 different combo moves by hitting Triangle during a melee combo, while grunts just get one no matter when Triangle is pressed during the standard melee combo. Though some MS had at least 2 or 3 combos, like the Zeong.
The Unique suits had penta-combos (up to XXXXXY), the Lieutenant suits (Byarlant, Jegan, etc) had tri-combos (XXXY), and the baseline grunts (Zaku II, GM) had an eight hit X, but no specials.
@@Jeagan2002 I have 3 and "4" (Reborn) and i much prefer the latter. Something/s about 3 just felt off... It's been some time since i last played it so i can't accurately say what i didn't like.
I have fallen in love with this game I have over 150 hours playing both solo and with my friends absolutely memeing about. I am the only Gundam nerd in my friend group and playing this game with them along with Gundam Evolution has allowed me to share a passion of mine with them, and to see them have hours of fun and have them asking me questions about gundam is such a treat. It is a great game with a solid story that is both funny and serious, very smooth combat and plenty of suits to get you through the game. My only issues are the lack of a pause when solo, the lock on sometimes sending you off a ledge or just not workin, and the lack of many grunts, I would have loved a Ginn, leo or any of the other versions of a grunt unit. Also you were mostly correct with Gundam dynasty warriors grunts were better or worse based on the suit itself so some were lacking but fun and others are just a "Grunt" piloted by an ace.
Everything you mentioned is spot on as a recently Gundam fan, but an old time gamer. I've even got most of the original series in 6 months in high grade in Gunpla, and a few MG RX-78-2 (a bit obsessed with the og grandaddy 😅). Thanks for the hard work!
I've been playing on the PS5, just gonna make some notes about my experience: Not sure if it was part of an update but I can refund points spent on other suits. The lack of a pause feature is something I noticed a lot for Online games even when your not playing online and I'm annoyed with it. Bamco only ever dubs Naruto & Dragon Ball games but even that's been shakey lately (Dragon Ball Fusions & Heroes did not have English dubs) and, as someone with Dyslexia, this is really obnoxious. The lack of Grunts is definitely a big problem, especially since some of the first suits you get are OYW Grunts. The game definitely played fine on controller but the lock-on isn't the best but cycling left and right on the right stick helps find the right target, also my issue is that you won't lock-on until they are fully spawned and on the ground because I constantly was like "ok I'll lock-on and hit them right when they land" only for my camera to flip around because they weren't fully spawned and there was nothing to lock-on to. I mainly played Sharpshooter and enjoyed wrecking everything from range but some bosses definitely felt like bashing my head against a wall until I got better with dodging and the Perfect Guard.
I made this game my Switch buy cause Battle Operation 2 and Gundam Evolution are gonna be working overtime on my pc. Already beat the game and working on Hard mode with my 50 some Sinanju and my mates Kshatriya . The game with one friend or two is amazing, tough battles that will make you become an ace pilot or even a newtype. I think it really comes down to people not knowing the tricks they need to survive. It's like Xenoverse, you put in the time for gear and lvls and you will be able to succeed.
10:37 the recommended specs being this ridiculous is just Bandai being lazy. The GTX 1060 is around about equal to the PS4 Pro while the 2080 is around about equal to the PS5. Bandai just listed off specs rougly equal to those consoles and called it a day instead of running tests. They did the same with GBO2's PC reqs where minimum was equal to the PS4 and recommended was equal to the PS5.
I enjoyed the game from beginning to end it was ironically my first ever gundam game on a console minus the Gundam game for IOS/android but I enjoyed it the grind was there but I felt it wasn't to heavy if you would have to put alot of time grinding missions solo with just AI bc the AI can be finicky but running through with friends/randoms makes it a lot easier I played the game for I'd say 4 nights that's about 3 to 4 hrs a time and finished it I would love to see some grunt units and or more non gundam type ace units customization I have a idea the ending of the game you get the black GM that was shown in the beginning let that be the customizable mobile suit allowing you to take any weapons from the respectable class but your locked to a class depending on your main weapon Sharpshooter : GMSniper Machine Gun/with melee combos Sub 1 : (gonna butcher this) Kshtaryia Sub 1 weapon which is incorporated into it flight pack Sub 2 : Gundam Ground Type 180mm cannon Okay you now have customization of these 3 mobile suits listed but due to Kshtaryia needing it back for the SUB 1 that is locked But everything else can be modified from the head unit chest arms waist and legs they can go further with this and allow even the smallest of changes to forearms bicep areas and foot changes
honestly i found if just turn off the automatic targeting and set it to close, 9/10 i was able to get the targeting on exactly who i wanted by just using positioning and manually aiming the camera at the exact thing i want targeted.
I really wish we just had another sd generation game with all the timelines in it, even build franchise. I play a bit of fire emblem so that gameplay style I honestly enjoy and really do like it in the sd generation games, especially the genesis with the universal century. For the game itself though its not bad, but man I really do wish we had more choice of grunt suits, they’re in the game so why can’t we play them??? That said if there’s a sequel to this then it might be possible cause dynasty warriors gundam was the same way, the first game didn’t have grunt suits as an option that happened in its sequels. Final thoughts the game isn’t bad but I really wish we got another gundam breaker game, dynasty warriors gundam game, or going back to games like encounters in space or even crossfire and refining them.

Why people keeps being dissapointed by expecting things that no one advertised but they made up in their minds? Bandai Namco was clear about the meaning of "customozation" on this game. Is the same that happened with Digimon survive. Bandai Namco: This game is a visual novel with tactical combat (like every tactics or fire emblem). About 70% text and 30% combat. People on internet: oh, this game is a visual novel...crap. I just cant understand it...
Content idea: why did sirocco give up the messala? My theory is that he didn’t want his reputation stained by his personally designed ms getting destroyed
I never thought I would see him review a new gundam game but here we are hes reviewing the new gundam game. And yeah I agree because I tried to pause the game and the game didn't pause at all while in combat so I had to rush to try to get to what I had to do 1st and then immediately come back so I could play more of the game and before I died. I get that the game was trying to be like Monster Hunter in comparison to how there's no pause button but come on. I do like the original characters that the game has on display since they don't annoy me as much and even their big giant nerds of the franchise. Hell, our operator girl really likes the iron blooded orphans boys and according to my friend, even she agrees with how shitty their lives are. The bosses are indeed life bar sponges and there is a lot of grinding you have to do not to mention there's the price tag which is $60 but it is nice to have another Gundam game out on the market. After playing the demo I will indeed buy the game myself but not now so overall this was a very solid review of the game Kararot! Edit:Major props to see both the double X and the EZ8 in this one!
For an SD game i found the lineup rather lackluster. Most of the lineup consists of Main protagonist Gundams, wich makes sense at first... but the SD games allways shined in bringing in ridiculus amounts of playable mobile suits, especially grunt suits. And this is where this game is lacking: you get barely any grunt suits despite them being in the game as enemies... this also expands to some of the ingame bosses who use MS like the 00 suits you get to fight half a dozen times.. but cant pilot yourselfe. The gameplay loop is also not very fullfilling either. The combat system is initially fun.. but since the game actively punishes you for wanting to try out new MS you unlock you will grow very tired after a while of your MS having nothing new for you to unlock. No new combos, no new weapons, no new abilities. All you can do is level up numeric values... The graphics look like a game from the PS3 era with some additional flashy effects added ontop.. certainly nothing to write home about. The whole game feels half hearted with little passion put in.. wich is a shame... this was their big chance to bring out a fun Coop experience for fans of gundam with lots of content. What we got instead was a game with a roster completly focused on gundams (and even then there are HUGE gabs.. like where is the rest of the gundam wing gundam lineup? Its only wing zero and Epyon? But we get the friggin Dom from UC of all MS?) with a grindtastic gameloop and very little customizability.. and in all honesty: very little to unlock... i mean i did not expect a gundam breaker level of freedom in decking out my MS... but improving my MS to have better/longer combos or switching out subweapons? That is bare minimum im asking for here... dynasty warriors has more custom options for your characters.... But Bamco seems to be content with just churning out half assed throwaway titles that would fit in every bargain bin at the local shopping mal and will be forgotten in a month or two... wich i just cant understand.. its their Flagship IP.. they make a ton of cash with the model kits.. why do they not care about the video game side of their bread winning IP?
I really love the game, the chibi MS graphics it reminds me of a super robot wars, while the gameplay is more similar to a Gundam Breaker title though. There are a consistent amount of MS, even if they omitted most of them, they game it is fun regardless. There is only two things that bug me too bits, the limited horizontal jump spread and the enemy space stations raids, who they are annoying AF since they are a maze as it is easy to lose inside them. Aside those two issues, this game has got a great potential, so improve, expand and support it even more please.
Curiously all Char's MS included the non playable Zeong are in the game, but the Char's Red Zaku II custom. alright, alright Bamco, take my money again...
I don’t know if anyone else shares my sentiment with this, but I feel as though they don’t have enough weapons per mobile suit. For example, turn x, he doesn’t have a sub that splits his body into pieces and shoots. They even have that type of attack in game you just can’t use it (shown when you fight turn x in 5a)
You’re right about the difficulty I started off on normal halfway through it’s next to impossible unless you switch to easy like the level gap is insane cpu instantly gains 10 levels when it takes you hours just to get to level 30
This game has potential of selling dlcs. If they pop out a few MS every month they could make money. I am definitely going to be buying them up, because I want as much as I can from this game. Though if they do a grunt suit dlc they just gotta make it all one pack.
I didn't have a problem when I came to the title screen of the game and load game it said fail to load your progress please trying again it said that 3 times sometimes it does it and sometimes it don't they need to fix that problem
I recently finished it, it's entertaining, but it's not perfect, it has its flaws, such as recycling maps and being able to advance missions together with friends, however I can see it as a prototype of what more work can come in the future of the creative team, like create the world of SD Gundam G Generations in them, limit the sagas or universes in the next deliveries to see more playable MS, the truth was I expected to play with a GN-X or Zwei Throne Gundam but it was not possible due to the limitations of the playable catalog. And the most important think, the PVP to revive the Old days in HD of SD Gundam Capsule Fighter Online. One positive thing that I can see is the limiting of upgrading, in SD gundam G Generations there are no limitations, so you can make yourself an MS so powerful that everything becomes easy and without challenge, I hope you learn from this and apply it in future deliveries.
Great review. I enjoyed the game as a start to a new franchise. It is abit too grindy though. I'm excited from Battle Alliance 2, though i hope we finally get a Dynasty Warriors 5 before then.
The Lock-on can be annoying but I highly recommend turning off the auto-lock on and change the lock-on priority to prioritize center. (no idea if it would help mouse users) Also I wish the game had more units and playable units. It is nice that some are shown in cutscenes and mentioned in dialogue and not completely ignored as if they didn't exist. Edit: Also try not to use the lock-on too much and adapt to the not locked lock-on. Can't become a newtype without a challenge
One thing that bugs me is that we get so many OYW suits, a bunch from Seed & 00, but G Gundam & Wing only get "Good & Bad" suits and After War Gundam X ony gets 1 suit.
The lack of pausing is a serious dealbreaker. The other stuff can slide since I do have a PS4, but I like being able to stop at any time if something urgent happens. This isn't some intentionally torturous game like Dark Souls, and Code Fairy is able to pause just fine, so I hope they patch this soon.
I'm enjoying Battle Alliance on the Switch, other than the lowered graphics (it's an Nintendo Switch what do you expect) it's pretty much how you describe minus the lowered FPS problem. I may like grunts but I'm not invested enough try against Mobile Armors and currently going with the Phoenix Gundam from G Generation games.
Game is fun and I already played 20 hrs in 2 weeks, but eh it's not worth it at full price at all, I'm dissapointed by the "customization" and the combat is pretty repeptitive. I think I will go back to playing crossrays after I get 00 raiser
The pause button does less than Relena
Grunts used to get massive love from Artdink. That's one of the stuff the Japanese players on Steam expected. They didn't get that and a lot of Artdink staples, so they left negative reviews.
The Western reviews are mostly positive-bombing. The Japanese reviews are mostly detailed, both the majority negative ones & the minority positive.
That sick burn
Welcome to Japan, they do things weird but I think they did this because souls like games do the same thing so that bit was more than likely done to try and get that market to bite.
@@TheRibbonRed so u play Macross Triangle series eh, and I agree with U about that....less grunts no fun
U know I'm tired playing as flashy Gundam heroes, let me play as grunts and beat those heroes with my skill so I can be a true ace pilot
The biggest complaint I have is the limited number of units in-game. No Strike, Mark II, Impulse, etc.
yet impulse is in the game I don't understand why we can't use Leo's or grazes etc there in the game
Would have loved the strike being in the game.
Funny, when Seed Battle Destiny has most of that & came out years before by the same Studio + in game Striker Pack change mechanic...in non-SD full size form.
Battle Alliance is obviously rushed.
No Dynames! 😢
I was sad when I found out the Gundam Mk II is not in the game. :(
It is my favourite mobile suit of all time!
Nah the game is bad, you are good
Considering how well this game is doing in sales, I'm hoping there's enough demand for a sequel with playable grunt units.
keep in mind to have your MS level higher than the stage recommended level, it does affect the damage they deal and take. So in this situation, raising all stat level evenly may be more beneficial than focusing on single stat
I was curious if that was the case.
And what i mean by "testing" i mean the timer if anyone is curious
The Unicorn Base Chaos Mission also drops a ton of cash due to the Hi-Nu Blueprints being valuable and fighting 6 bosses back to back.
Not sure if it's just me but the Alex feels super slow and clunky but by the time you get to IBO true you can just use the Barabtos Rex which is far faster and has more fluid movement plus higher damage.
@@yamatanoorochismith1625 this strat has more too do with the capital drop up from the Alex's ult but yes it has that effect.
@@arthur3739 Does it drop more capital then Rex? Also found out the F91 has a similar spa
They can be quite tough, even when you already full upgrade your suit
3. The "meta" for this game is heavily leaning to mostly Sharpshooter and some All Rounder. In-fighter is kinda "useless" in this game
4. The lock-on system is kinda awkward. Especially for Sharpshooter, which i usually used. having the lock-on is gone after enemy die and rather than automatically move to the next target, it just gone and it's kinda awkward. The auto lock-on is also kinda janky sometimes
The thing is, the timing for both of them is so small that it's really hard to do, even if you use part to add the timing
I want to play using M1 Astray with Red and Blue Frame as companion
Those are the thing that i think they need to fix, excluding adding more MS, if they decided to make a sequel.
@@Xenobears On average they have the highest melee defense and HP are the main culprits.
They can no joke be from one side to the other in 3 seconds and do damage to you at the same time
Me: “Okay, the MA is on the other side of the map, time to pop a repair kit!”
_MA does a dash attack with a one-second windup and travel time, knocking me over less than 2/10 of a second before the repair kit finishes_
Me: -_-
@@Xenobears restores are the same way but worse
Agreed, the mobile armor can do so much damage and can kill your entire team in a matter of minutes, well it isn't as painful as fighting Both blue frame and red frame at the same time.
@@poorlydrawngouf4281 lol, if I’m in need of a rez, it’s almost always the AI partner with aggro that tries to bring me back.
If a partner needs resurrection, I just try to grab aggro and tank the boss. The AI doesn’t seem to take into account that I’m already rezzing the other one, so it tries to “help,” bringing boss AOEs right to me >
Final boss (mobile armors in general ) makes me feel like I’m fighting a polar bear in a bathroom stall. 🤦🏾♂️
It has its flaws
But it's really fun to just shout "Burning Finger" every now and then
I would have Loved it if they had atleast incorporated the ability to Recolor and Decal parts of your Units much like in the game SD Gundam Capsule Fighter Online,
Would have really furthered your ability to really make each unit your own in a special kind of way.
That actually sounds like a good idea. I'd like to see that too!
It should be the balance for Gundam Wing.
that pause button failure is a basic of how you not design your video game 101, lol.
Reminds me of SD Gundam capsule figther online, rest is peace you masterpiece.
Why the hell we didn't have a lot of grunts in SDGBA ?
I miss SDGO and my overflag custom custom (black paint Aries)
I wish there was a pause button AND an arcade mode
Bosses aren’t difficult - just takes skill and good hits. Learn how to use good suits and weapons. Review is accurate. It’s quite fun for me
Im still debating this game, lack of grunts is kinda a killer though.
I know of a couple missions that can knock out the 80 - 90 grind in short order
I mostly agree with your review
What I personally like from this game is, the surprised reaction from Juno, who only knew "Gundam" from her viewpoint
And then surprised many alternate universe, and even become confused about something that we and sakura know, but she doesnt know
Example when Sakura mentioning Devil Gundam, we knew about it, but Juno didnt know at all lol
Or when Juno confused why Heero Yuy using Wing Zero, lol
Or the Quattro's Liutenant joke
It's reminds me when my friend asking me to 'teach' him some gundam, and he confused lol
he only knew some scene, and some gundam, but not all of them
Thats why he confused
Additionally, i also like they skipped the repetitif story telling that gundam fans already know of
And putting those to library instead everytime the story got introduced

But the gameplay aspect, fun at first, frustating some times later.... the grinding, is really hard
The sudden difficulty jump makes me surprised...
More than many times i slammed into wall hard....
MA battle in this game also frustating lol (But later I got VERY lucky, i got Sharpshooter ranged + changed all attack to physical equip lol)
but it still so frustating lol
AND THEY ARE SO BIG BUT THEIR MOVES ARE SO FAST actually anger me many times lol
I personally like the game it's just how quickly you to adjust your combat skill depending what mobile suit you choose
tbh, once i see how many timelines this game is presenting, my hopes and dreams for getting back inside the GM Custom instantly vanished. also, it pains me that Hi-Nu is a post-game unit so i have to use Command until the end (7B True is a good mission to grind for easy money since it lacks bosses, though). and Gatheroad GM is such a pain to unlock.
my biggest gripe with this game is how difficult some MA battles can be. and i fear what would happen to me once i start encountering them on Hard mode. at least MA with I Field will get stunned when i do throw enough bullets at it, but others... not much. every other issues i have with the game slowly disappears as i play. and right now i've already clocked 50 hours.
grinding is a pain, but i make it to point to only play one stage long enough to get all the blueprints and then moving along. at least until the aforementioned 7B True when enough money are dropping for me to even consider switching suits (something that i did consider but decided not to after i checked what i was about to deal with).
the lock-on though... just give us back EXVS style or Gundam Assault Survive style lock on. i actually decided to just turn off auto-lock on and play slowly so that i can adjust the camera angle without drawing attention from bosses. the lack of a proper pause button also caught me off guard, but it seems that the game was designed as a multiplayer game from the ground up.
gave this game an 8 because it's been 12 years since Assault Survive AND i'm feeling generous. overall still a good value for money.
I really wanted the GM Gatheroad due to this game's lack of grunt suits but I'm already tired of grinding for Hi Nu and most of the time, the stages dont drop the parts!
8:07 "Thanks to the great voice acting" uh bro most of these voices are copy pasted towards the extreme vs game

One thing I forgot to add: *You can actually fire most (if not all) weapons on your MS in the older games.*
Want the Gundams (AU & UC) to fire vulcans?
When I played I was able to go to my high level suit, start lowering it's stats and I was able to get my cash back quite easily

A good way to "grind" is to get the suits from earlier missions and spend the cash from them levelling up another suit you want to while earning new suits. its not grindy at all
There are so many Gundam things coming out at the same time
Having more MS options would make the grind problem worse with how this game is designed.
I am glad that I can use the Guntank in this game
Can the radar point stay centered
Armored core is comming out soon, soooooooooooooooo. Skip, I'll just stick to building my backlog til then.
One thing i didnt understand is why they didnt let us use soldier units, I wanted to use bawoo.
My guy, I thought I was the only looking for the grunts! I've been maining the Guncannon and GMII Sniper since I got it! Sad to hear we don't get more, but I'm hoping they add more with the later updates and season passes.
There's lots of people disappointed by the lack of grunt suits on the Steam forums as well. I'm hoping the devs will listen and add more.
oh wow. what a cool game! so this needs to be free to all those players who put money in SD Gundam online back in early 20-teens. you know, the people who put in a few hundred or a few thousand over a few years (like 2010 to maybe 2013), and like more or less play tested AND paid money and like, now there is this more polished product from same game. like the ending hook in the music here is same from previous version. like, this should be gifted free, through the same distribution channels - at least to the players in Taiwan and S Korea and HK. Heck, do y'all remember, S Korea even tried to get a competitive scene going but the game kept crashing on live TV. But anyhow, this version looks enjoyable and playable.
The biggest travesty is all the grunt suits you can fight against but not use. Was it too much to ask for a playable Ginn or Leo?
Yeah I want to play as a Zaku I.
I love this game so much and I use the barbatos
Lock on can be mostly fixed by changing to Center Priority. Other than that, this sounds fairly accurate to my experience on Switch. Fortunately the missions are short and there are (especially with the DLC/Hard) some good grinding levels.
I believe grunts might come as DLC. I will definitely getting this on sale after this review, I was not going to play the game at all
9:13 It wasn't just DWG2, the grunts in every game had a reduced moveset.
@@Jeagan2002 Did they not have combos in the older games?
My main experience is from Gundam Reborn which may have given the grunts a single combo.
@@fishpop DWG2 was the first one with grunt suits, you couldn't hunt for suits in 1. I was recalling from DWG2, which was my favorite of the three.
Can’t wait to play this.
But I’ll wait for it to get discounted 😅
Everything you mentioned is spot on as a recently Gundam fan, but an old time gamer. I've even got most of the original series in 6 months in high grade in Gunpla, and a few MG RX-78-2 (a bit obsessed with the og grandaddy 😅). Thanks for the hard work!
I've been playing on the PS5, just gonna make some notes about my experience:
Not sure if it was part of an update but I can refund points spent on other suits.
I'm assuming the gbo2 sys req on PC were pretty damn high right?
I enjoyed the game from beginning to end it was ironically my first ever gundam game on a console minus the Gundam game for IOS/android but I enjoyed it the grind was there but I felt it wasn't to heavy if you would have to put alot of time grinding missions solo with just AI bc the AI can be finicky but running through with friends/randoms makes it a lot easier I played the game for I'd say 4 nights that's about 3 to 4 hrs a time and finished it I would love to see some grunt units and or more non gundam type ace units customization I have a idea the ending of the game you get the black GM that was shown in the beginning let that be the customizable mobile suit allowing you to take any weapons from the respectable class but your locked to a class depending on your main weapon
Sharpshooter :
GMSniper Machine Gun/with melee combos
Sub 1 : (gonna butcher this) Kshtaryia Sub 1 weapon which is incorporated into it flight pack
Sub 2 : Gundam Ground Type 180mm cannon
Okay you now have customization of these 3 mobile suits listed but due to Kshtaryia needing it back for the SUB 1 that is locked
But everything else can be modified from the head unit chest arms waist and legs they can go further with this and allow even the smallest of changes to forearms bicep areas and foot changes
honestly i found if just turn off the automatic targeting and set it to close, 9/10 i was able to get the targeting on exactly who i wanted by just using positioning and manually aiming the camera at the exact thing i want targeted.
Quick question K, have you played MS Saga?
I wish a real Gundam Breaker 4 and no the New Gundam Garbage they made a few years ago. 🥲
@@Thenewbagman many of us wish that abomination didn’t happen, it was an even worst attempt on bringing gundam breaker to the us than gundam versus, at least that one was playable and fun.
Well if you want a strategy game, we got Super Robot Wars
@@miragebangbravern while I want to get into super robot wars eventually, my focus is more on the gundam game and my only gripe on that is all the timelines together in one game and also special maps that utilize different mobile suits from each timeline.
@@MusicFan752 SRW tends to make the timelines fit anyway generally writing it very well, Seed and G for example may have different tones but fit so much well in J, even more so with Wing in W
But that's my take anyway
Good review and you covered everything I've experienced as a PC player, too. Here's hoping for some QOL improvements and stronger DLC (pack 1 was a bit silly).
Understood some points about the lock-on being poorly implemented, but what did you mean by aggregate lock-on?
I hope they add in more Grunt Units. It has possibility with DLC or future updates, but until then I'll wait.
i really enjoy this. its simple and still a bit demanding...but not over komplex.
just trying to find that funky soundtrack during the menu areas/mission select/post mission results. Someone pls help, closest we get to SDGO soundtrack
found it while messing with music settings. Library was pretty fleshed out. "Analyses module"
How late game is double zeta? Or I guess I should ask if that one is even in the game?
Content idea: why did sirocco give up the messala? My theory is that he didn’t want his reputation stained by his personally designed ms getting destroyed
Is the Xamel or Dom tropen in this?
It's funny this review came out since the first DLC recently got released.
I am on switch.... DLCs are needed to advance?
yeah my only huge complaint so far is lock on
trying to catch the head of a psycho or destroy for its weak spot
is so frustrating.
I don’t know if anyone else shares my sentiment with this, but I feel as though they don’t have enough weapons per mobile suit. For example, turn x, he doesn’t have a sub that splits his body into pieces and shoots. They even have that type of attack in game you just can’t use it (shown when you fight turn x in 5a)
Kakarot have you heard the gunpla news about the Gm Spartan getting a Hg ?!?
Is that metal ray your fighting?
You’re right about the difficulty I started off on normal halfway through it’s next to impossible unless you switch to easy like the level gap is insane cpu instantly gains 10 levels when it takes you hours just to get to level 30
i was so mad when there wasn't enough grunt units to leo is my fav and i still can't be it. ugh maybe the will do a free dlc for them.
This game has potential of selling dlcs. If they pop out a few MS every month they could make money. I am definitely going to be buying them up, because I want as much as I can from this game. Though if they do a grunt suit dlc they just gotta make it all one pack.
The grunts were playable in Gundam Warriors 3 actually haha but yea it would have been awesome to play as them on SD BA
Utilize the parts and skills that increase the drop rate of capitol. Makes grinding for them less of a chore
I'd have tried the demo but for whatever reason the demo is not available on PC.
I didn't have a problem when I came to the title screen of the game and load game it said fail to load your progress please trying again it said that 3 times sometimes it does it and sometimes it don't they need to fix that problem
"i like grunts" bruh the exact same reason why i love BO2.
One thing that bugs me is that we get so many OYW suits, a bunch from Seed & 00, but G Gundam & Wing only get "Good & Bad" suits and After War Gundam X ony gets 1 suit.
did you play soccer world cup 2022
since this is a SD gundam game they should have included the "SD Gundam Sangokuden Brave Battle Warriors" stuff in as well
Hey Kakarot did you add any special songs to the game yet?
Also yeah I agree about the grunts, that's why I'm hoping they add EVEN more units.
Oh my god, Leos are mook suits it was such a missed opportunity in the DW: Gundam series.
Does anyone know if it's better to buy it on steam or switch? Like which one has the better community?
