    If you pre-drill the CLS's with a hole slightly bigger than the screw, do it on your bench or floor. The screw will drop down to the wood your screwing to and your drill would have fitted in... Too late now but not for other jobs you'll be doing, great views of the locks hadn't realise how big the
    y are.. Cheers James keep '
    em coming.

    Been through Foxton locks many times. When the pubs are open Bridge 61 is a proper pub with a roaring fire on a cold evening. The other pub is a plastic pub but does some good nosh.
    Under the mattress and where it touches the walls stick on the air gap stuff from the caravan shops, stop it all going damp. Crack on.

    Judging by what we we've seen of your consumption of tea, that tank should be big enough to supply the kettle for a day or two at least.

    Foxton is beautiful. On Fridays 1 of the pubs used to do a Friday lunch live Jazz jam. I'm not a huge fan of Jazz, but the guys playing were awesome! Bet you still can't wait to get that stove fired up! 😄

    surely a good marine anode fixture is cheap and would add a degree of protection, if only marginal, etc. some are desighned to last quite a while, needing rare attention/replacement, etc. thanks for all your great videos!

    For your screwdriverproblem in smal spaces: www.ebay.com/itm/50mm-Offset-Screwdriver-Bit-Holder-90-Degree-Bit-Drill-Attachment-Angle-Driver-/121902703557
    I use it myself often and, after a bit of training how to handle, it works well.

    Hi James, Apologies, Didn't realise the bow bed was to be another layer higher than the water tank level hence my comment about scaffolding. Glad to see you have used that thicker timber. How you found time to be a TOURIST at Foxton is beyond me. Bye the way the canal doesn't join the Grand Union there , it still is the Grand Union Leicester Main Line from Norton Junction. Hope I got that right else I'll lose my canal cred. Stay safe (PJ)

    What's going to happen is
    If your mattress has no breath holes in the base it WILL get damp underneath from your body sweat
    Also if the sides of your mattress touches the hull sides mold spores will appear.

    Hm, add some wood just inside the vertical supports and in the center, between and level with the three batons, to support three runners, then build a large drawer to fit? ;-)
    Of course a couple swing out doors on either side.
    I'm guessing those three supports (wood) will be in the center, so you'll need to build two long drawers, instead of one big drawer (lay look more symmetrical?). ;-D

    Morning. I know this isn't the right episode. But I just had to comment. Everyone has options and there own ideas. And possibly this has been mentioned before . I lived on my boat for about 8 years. But I keep freaking out every time I see you water tank. It's way too small and I think in the long run you will struggle. You may find that you have to fill it everyday rather than once a week like most. If it was me ( which it isn't etc) I would have had a stainless one made to fit the front area of the boat and then built the bed base over and around it. Yes more ballast would be require at rear etc. But hope all goes well with the project. Enjoy watching but just had to voice my frustration.

    • @thekitowl
      @thekitowl 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I thought the tank looked too small as well. Probably not too much hassle if the boat spends most of the time in a marina.

    • @TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt
      @TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You’re right the tank is small however at 250 litres it’ll be way more than ever day !! It was about size, weight etc more than capacity. I can easily buy a flexi tank for reserves. If I can sort out my tea addiction, that tank will last forever

    Hi James I've been following you with interest every day. Something I have been thinking about is weight distribution. With most of your units, fire and bed being to starboard, how will you tackle this issue when on the water. Assuming you can move only small amounts of ballistic, And Happy New Year? Phil Rusling

    • @TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt
      @TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Phil
      You’re right - it’s a bit unknown until I get her on the water I won’t really know. I’m trying to balance as I go.
      Port- galley, stove, fireplace, gas
      Starboard - dinette, bathroom, bed, batteries
      You can only move small amounts of ballast, but I’ll have space to add extremely heavy ballast - tens of times heavier than a brick. That should sort out the volume issue.
      Hope that answers it a bit

    James - is there any reason the when framing in the water tank you didn't put the vertical supports under the horizontal supports rather than relying on two screws - or did I miss something?

  • @suecox2308
    @suecox2308 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I've been curious all along about the battens extending down below the gunnels along the interior walls--looks like 9 inches or so. What happens to them and why are they there?

    • @TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt
      @TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They are the battens which will eventually take the upper walls. The overhang was because at the time I had no idea how far the upper would come down. Therefore I cut them at that length so I had plenty to play with - which worked out well. I’ll need to trim about 30mm off each one once the upper walls are in. Hope that makes sense

    I can’t wait till you get a fire going in that stove. Don’t you hate it when you’re waiting on a part to come in and it seems everything you don’t need is their but the one thing you do need seems to take an act of Congress “as we in America say” to get what you do need
