I remember being at a skate demo in the early 80's and seeing someone do an ollie, maybe 8 inches high or so, for the first time. It was the most amazing thing I had ever seen up to that point. Skateboarding has come a very long way since then.
I remember in 1986 after getting a sam Cunningham mini seeing this kid Ollie and I sat there for days on end in the grass trying to get an inch high I remember throwing my board and practically breaking down into tears and if it wasn’t for that kid to motivate me I probably would’ve given up, 47 still shredding,Honestly I just watched an East Coast 80s video with Mike Filoli and these kids were better and this video was edited better too!
This was fantastic! I was the same age as these guys, and skating the same stuff back then. The launch ramps were the best. These guys were actually really good for the time period. At least way better than I was. Hahaha.
yeah!!! I was telling my son about these boards... everything is dam near popcicle stick now... we didnt have that shit then... had me one of them rat tail hair cuts then... to the middle of my back
Damn Cockroaches were the Aussie wheel to have back in the late 80’s, pair them up with an another Sydney brand like an ATS blank (All Terrain Skateboards) and you were doing it, and were by no means a poser as they did not ride ATS decks. Really dating myself here with that ATS reference lol, only Sydney street skaters in the late 80’s would even know that brand, that’s like 5 or 6 guys at this stage, photographer Dave Mock owned it if I remember right… One question though why is the footage on this channel half east coast USA and the other half Australian 80’s footage? Its super sick just as its so obvious the difference between the two scenes (even though it looks like the 80’s stuff is Aussie and early 90’s is usa which time stamps each pretty obviously). Growing up in Australia and seeing all the pink shirts, floppy fringes, crazy shorts and jump ramps in this clip immediately look familiar to me, which is so cool… My guess is your family moved to Australia based on your fathers work, then moved back home to the us after a few years. Myself having grown up in a family that moved countries for my dads work it makes sense… Yo you have really good quality vhs rips too, you really don’t see this quality in home movies from the late 80’s especially…
Hey mate, we grew up in Brisbane in the 80s, moved to New Jersey in the early 90s, then back to Oz mid 90s. Appreciate your skate knowledge... yes, you almost didn't want to ride the Cockroach wheels and rub off the graphics. Don't know about ATS, but will do some digging. My brother and I have become movie Directors and skate videos were our training ground. We kept all our master tape, that's why the quality is still good. Glad we did, love that we can now share with fellow skate history buffs. Cheers!
Not sure about that, but nice of you to say. Skate Vids gave us the chance to learn film making. We'll forever love skateboarding for inspiring us to be creative.
Love the video!!
Radical moves and old school style.
The old footage really takes me back such a great effort in making this thanks!!
Thanks mate... skate and destroy!
Awesome flashback! Thanks wish I recorded me and my friends skating in 1986-1989.
Thanks, yeah... we always had a camera by our side. Still do.
Wow, I felt like at any minute in this video my 13/14 year old self was going to show up and want to skate with you guys!

Thanks, we were made of rubber back then... launching into the sky was always the best. Launch ramps were fun, but so was just jumping off stuff.
The 80’s were great! Nice edit

Nice... Good to see some shape boards have had a come back. I don't know if rat tails have.
Very few people could do Tre flips back then. WOW!
Only landed a few in the 80s... Jason Lee inspired me.
@@dfasklfh He's the only guy I could think of that did them in the 80s.
@@jalen1973 Rodney was doing double tres by then. Legend!
Made me feel 13 again!💚

The best!
How did you get this stuff
I manage the Spierig Bros early videos, they have a lot of original skate footage in their collection.
Wish I had video of me skating in 88' when I was 14. I was about this same technical level, maybe a little more aggressive.
complete SUPREME RADNESS BITCHIN' rad cool to the max Keep the skate videos going
Will do... Spierig's shot a lot of footage in the 90s too.
Zombiefish release the 90s Skateboard footage Too😎

An interesting thing about their cavemen is how the board is behind them when they jump
faned。。。sort of cult
Damn, they could’ve been pro skaters had they taken a different path.
