Well done. Thank you for a very helpful, clearly explained video re. Cubase shortcuts! Just what I needed to know. Two other handy shortcuts: -Pressing "0" on Num Pad stops recording. -To change the height of all tracks at the same time, hold down Ctrl (Cmd in Mac), while hovering over the border of any track until you get the small double bar icon for "up/down" , then drag up or down.
Just made the switch to Cubase after about a decade spent with Logic and was having a hell of a time finding this information laid out clearly for some reason! Good stuff, thanks a bunch!
Another good one I use all the time (which I'm pretty sure were the default key binds) CTRL + 1, 2, 3, etc. to set marker and then Shift + 1, 2, 3, etc. to jump to those markers. Really good for navigating to verse 1, verse 2, hook/drop, bridge, etc. without even having to look.
DUUUUUUUDE!!!! THESE ARE AWESOME!!!! I'm new to Cubase - switching over after being a Cakewalk/Sonar user for 20 years. I know how to do ALL of this stuff in Cakewalk - it's like second nature. I have the Cubase manual and a couple of books, but even with that it's been somewhat slow trying to find a lot of these daily regular things. Thank you so much for making this video! - Andrew Colyer, New York
So cool! Very useful! The one I use a lot is Alt+P when I have an event selected. It will automatical set the locators, turn loop on and will start playing!
another useful thing i found out today: ctrl+f => a small window with ALL your tracks appears and you can jump right to the one you want to edit. very helpful within big projects imo. and thx dude in general. cubase is my main daw and i have learned some useful things from your videos. keep it up!
I just love all the shortcuts on the Numpad. Everytime I have a guitar or bass on my lab I just navigate and control the basic functions like record there. Such a timesaver.
I have been searching the internet for days trying to find out how to scroll sideways in Cubase! Thanks - so simple , I knew it would be but I just didn't know and nobody was saying how. Thanks!
The best key control in Cubase is sample replace. Drag a sample from the Pool/Bay, hold shift before releasing over another sample, now we get a choice to replace just that 1 or all in project. Amazing for changing a clap, kick etc.
I've never done that one, but it sounds cool. I sequence most of my drums in MIDI, not audio. But I'll have to keep that one in mind for the future. Thanks!
Yeah, not been able to do this is what forced me over to using MIDI for drums a few times. I always reverted back to the samples on audio track. Learning sample replace is a life saver for those who work this way. I can't believe how hidden it is. In the past i'd searched for hours for a quick way to replace all the versions of sample. I've just stumbled on Click holding the 'E' opens up the VST editor instead of the channel setting editor. Another neat feature.
My favorite way to zoom (which was not mentioned here) is to click at the top into the measure/time marker area, and drag down. Fast accurate zooming with one button push!
Great list! I've used P then num 1& 2 for quite some time; was good to learn about shift P! Also, A for fade in select range; I've always struggled to get a fade located where I want it using just a mouse. Ctl-Wheel for zoom will also be very useful. Thanks for all you do: You rock!
Awesome! Thanks. Have you ever gotten into explaining how to understand in the Inspector how those pieces (Input, Instrument, etc) work especially when integrating a 3rd party i.e. NI Komplete.
I didn't know about 7 of those, shift-f will save me a lot of time! Someday they need to allow the drum editor in 'edit in place'. Thanks for the great video!
In the control lane of the MIDI editor, where it says "velocity", click the carrot and there will be an option for "pitch bend" in the dropdown menu. Select that and draw in your bend with the pencil tool. You may need to take off snap to get the desired result.
Sooo excellent! Thx for the tips... Noticed hitting z will zoom both selected as in the video, but when one track is a different size than the 2nd track they toggle zoom - which is actually cool too. One tip I'd love to know is how to move an event horizontally, and lock it from moving right/left when dragging to another track/channel?
Also if you just hit key number 1 it will bring your cursor to the beginning of the selected range. Hit C for metronome, as long as it's set up in your studio. You can create your own key shortcuts too, i use that to create a new track, MIDI, audio, and instrument ...
I suggest you are hired at Steinberg support. They don't mean a toe compared to your help. Their support is useless and your is worthful. Congratz and thanks !
Thanks very much for the tips great tips and very clear the way you engage it to us . I want to know if you have any idea how to move an audio track from one place to another without dragging it all the way . For ex to move audio track no 64 to 22 . Is there any fast way to do it?
About the horizontal scroll - if someone's seeing this - it should be possible to change direction the preferences! I know you can inverse the mouse wheel in the OS preferences but this is actually reverse vertical scroll too which is a pain. I think the direction of scroll up (i.e. to the beginning of the document) should be the same direction of scroll left (i.e. to the beginning of the project). But someone cubase thought differently.
10 great tips . my problem is remembering them ! , ha ha TU^ 22 Oh , just upgraded to 9.5 and took advantage of Strindberg black Friday deal and bought the absolute bundle , which included Halion 6 , so keep posting hints and tips and I will be watching
I always wanted Absolute, but I'm still working my way through everything in Komplete 11 Ultimate. I think I'll have some Groove Agent and Halion Sonic SE stuff in the weeks and months to come. Thank you for watching!
I may have mentioned that I was about to purchase Halion 6 a week or two back , the price was then £285 , the week before black Friday Strinberg put the price up to £300 , me and my son were hoping that Halion 6 was going to be the black Friday deal , but we decided we would purchase even if it wasn't, when BF finally arrived it was Absolute that was the deal at £252 so we were able to purchase Absolute and upgrade to 9.5 for £ 304 , we were both very chuffed , as overall we saved £50 each and had all the instruments in the Strindberg range that we could want and more besides , Komplete11 ultimate is way out of our price range , and think what we have is more than enough for our needs , your video's have and will be very helpful in my learning curb all though I have had Cubase for many years there is always so much to learn and different ways of going about recording and mixing , keep the great work up ;-) Trevor
Really good video with the shortcuts that have been faded in so often - great for keeping them in your mind instantly !!! With Zooming I do it nearly the same way with the mouse wheel - BUT I change the "G" and the "H"-keys to zoom vertically. The trick with the Z to enlarge selected tracks is not bad but I use another key to do so. But I change the undo-function from Crtl-Z to "Z" - this is much quicker. I don't know how often you use the undo-function - but in my case it is very often.
It's what I've spent the past few weeks doing. Applying new logic to all the shortcuts. Easier to remember, lots added. Here's where I'm at with it. drive.google.com/file/d/0BzUqoUE_JiOucVN2QXlTYlIyb1E/view?usp=sharing I started a thread over on Steinberg Forum too.
Thanks, any input would be appreciated. I love hearing other peoples approach, it helps. The list under goes quite some changes but the link will always be the same one. Edit: some of the list might be a little confusing at first but once it clicks it makes for a smaller, more compact, easier to follow table.
Thank you mate.Great tutorial as always. Can you do tutorial about new colours feature in Cubase 9.5? I guess its imposible now create deep black left and right panels or maybe im wrong but you can try.I still can do that in version 9 but 9.5 nfortunately no,cheers
This is all great, thanks for the vid - longtime user here and there's some stuff I've never used before. One question: The "z" command doesn't work, in that it only zooms to a slightly larger size and is permanent for any track you select unless you deactivate it, which is (yet another in Cubase!) extra keystroke. Is there a key command to enlarge the track to full to return it to the previous size when you hit it again?
HiWould you be able to speak about constrain delay compensation plz, Thing is when I turn it on,, it turns off most of my plugin, If I use a send it creates a flanging sound?
The "P" key. Why didn't I know about THAT before? Shhhhhoooooot. Thanks! Have watched plenty o' Cubase tip vids and it looks like you do them very well. Subscribed. I just recently started working on editing audio within Cubase (specifically tracks for my daughter's dance studio). By chance are you able to point me toward a great tutorial regarding cross fading between tracks, or cross fading in Cubase in general? Again, fantastic tips tutorial. I'll be looking at more of your stuff. Oooo, and what software do you use to video capture?
I use Cyberlink screen recorder. It is very simple and I do all of the compositing after the fact in Adobe Premiere. I'm thinking about switching in 2018 to OBS or XSplit because the additional features will help me go live. Old habits die hard though. I'll put a fading and cross fading tutorial on the agenda. Should be out in January! Thanks for watching!
I remapped [{}] [Place left locator . Place right Locator] {go to left locator . Go to right Locator} Ctrl [] lets you enter a specific value Alt Gr [Left Zone . Right Zone] Alt Gr Space Bar Lower Zone. Alt Gr does all the other Info, status lines, Zones etc. L Status line, I info line, O Overview, T Transport, M Meter, U Upper. Made sense to me to keep it logical and linked. [{}] is easy reach. Now if one forgets it requires little thought to be remembered. I used to use the Alt Click as it's standard but i could never understand why the Alt and Alt Gr are the opposite way round on the keyboard to the locator on the screen. Check out my list. drive.google.com/file/d/0BzUqoUE_JiOucVN2QXlTYlIyb1E/view?usp=sharing
Hi ! Thank you for these great tips ! I'm asking myself if it's possible to configure the cursor to make it always start from the last start point on the grid (like in ableton). Because when it comes to create a beat, I find it would be much more easier if the cursor returns automatically to the first kick (for example) of the beat when I hit pause, instead of having to do it manually. Cheers !
Numpad 0 to stop, then press it a second time to return to start. I believe you can permanently set it to behave this way through the Transport options so you only have to hit stop once for it to return to start.
Thank you! I have been working in Сub for a long time but did not know half of these functions :). Thank you for the video! I can give another hint. If you make a marker track, and in it make loop markers. (it’s convenient to mark parts of the composition). They will also have numbers: 1; 2; 3; etc. Transition on them Shift + 1; 2; 3;... (digit) (on num lk section). Thank you for the video! Very helpful! (!)It was nice if you shot a video about organizing plugins in Cubes. Favorite folders, etc. p.s. what program did you capture the screen? Very convenient zone approaches!
Sir Could you upload a tutorial about underwater effect ? I'm using the Fl studio,In the fl studio it's really easy to make also I want to know how to do it from the Cubase! Please do a tutorial about it thank you!
Add a low pass filter to the main output bus. Especially if want to sound like EVERYBODY else. Oh I forgot this is Hip-Hop/Trap land where EVERYBODY does sound the same. My bad.
Never thought somebody uses Z, I remove it ASAP to not distract me while Ctrl+Z. Disadvantage of Z is that it doesn't return to 2 rows or 3 rows height, it makes everything small. Definitely not my workflow. Wow, didn't know about Ctrl+left ight - awesome! About "edit in plase" you can zoom pianoroll if scroll with cursor over keys.
Do you know if its possible to access a given instrument track preset just by shortcuts? I'm struggling... My goal is to create macros that call a specific VSTi track preset.
You can better use the middle mouse button to navigate in your project left and right ! It will give you a hand icon and you will be able to scroll left and right and at the same time up and down !
Nice tips. Can I just ask you if you are able to get the old groove agent one working in Cubase 9.5? I have heaps of projects where I used GA1. I got it working in 8.5 but not the latest one. Cheers mate
hello dear i like your tips and they are helpful and i want to ask u if u even had problem with cubase when u work on it it crashes and you have to restart the project and open the cubase again ? hope to hear from you soon
No. Cubase basically never crashes on me. I can count on one hand the number of times it has crashed in my whole history with the program. However, I run only licensed 64-bit plugins and have high-spec hardware. I always keep Cubase and my operating system updated. Hope this helps!
this for ur answer i am running the highest cubase 9.5 and imac 2017 17 4.2 gh 64gb ram 1tb ssd and it might be some of the plugins makes that crash but there is any way i can do treatment with out reinstall the app again ?
I'm on a PC. Maybe check the forums to see if there are issues with the High Sierra OS update (or whatever OS revision you're on), or check the plugin-sentinel to see if you whitelisted anything that you could blacklist and reevaluate. Other than that, I don't know what to tell you, but I hope it all works out!
Hey ! Excellent tutorial ;) Which software do you use for the capture of your mic, the cubase sound and screen ? I'm struggling in finding the right software. Thanks a million !
Well done. Thank you for a very helpful, clearly explained video re. Cubase shortcuts! Just what I needed to know.
Two other handy shortcuts:
-Pressing "0" on Num Pad stops recording.
-To change the height of all tracks at the same time, hold down Ctrl (Cmd in Mac), while hovering over the border of any track until you get the small double bar icon for "up/down" , then drag up or down.
Nice tips!
I love how you go just to the point: practical, clear.
Just made the switch to Cubase after about a decade spent with Logic and was having a hell of a time finding this information laid out clearly for some reason! Good stuff, thanks a bunch!
Robert Zahn Music I’m doing the same. What made you swap and how are you finding it ?
Another good one I use all the time (which I'm pretty sure were the default key binds) CTRL + 1, 2, 3, etc. to set marker and then Shift + 1, 2, 3, etc. to jump to those markers. Really good for navigating to verse 1, verse 2, hook/drop, bridge, etc. without even having to look.

Nice, another one I didn't know!
I just love all the shortcuts on the Numpad. Everytime I have a guitar or bass on my lab I just navigate and control the basic functions like record there. Such a timesaver.
No doubt! It would be hard for me to produce a lot of stuff without them.
I have been searching the internet for days trying to find out how to scroll sideways in Cubase! Thanks - so simple , I knew it would be but I just didn't know and nobody was saying how. Thanks!
Beautiful man, you're the only one who helped me
This was really helpful, thanks so much! P is a great shortcut!
Thanks for this video bro, greetings
You're welcome!
It’s an old video now but still learnt some stuff. On c12 now and really enjoying it.

Thankds a lot for these hints.. I use them very often.
Thanks man!! You've earned my respect
Many thanks about the video! I’m watching all of them . Keep doing this great job. Greetings from Greece!
My favorite way to zoom (which was not mentioned here) is to click at the top into the measure/time marker area, and drag down. Fast accurate zooming with one button push!
Still a very nice video. I Also appreciate that you repeat everything over and over. That's helps to learn faster.
Extremely helpful video - - nice that you repeated stuff as you went through.
Thanks! I'm glad it was helpful!
By the time I'm dead, I would have read two books:
1. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
2. Cubase manual
Sound logic my good man 😂😂😂
Great list! I've used P then num 1& 2 for quite some time; was good to learn about shift P! Also, A for fade in select range; I've always struggled to get a fade located where I want it using just a mouse. Ctl-Wheel for zoom will also be very useful. Thanks for all you do: You rock!

Oooh. Drum editor 'edit in place' would be sweet! I may have to put in a feature request!
i love this guy .he makes it so damn easy
You are a good instructor. You talk to us, not at us. How can I bend a Bass note in the instrument or MIDI editor?
In the control lane of the MIDI editor, where it says "velocity", click the carrot and there will be an option for "pitch bend" in the dropdown menu. Select that and draw in your bend with the pencil tool. You may need to take off snap to get the desired result.

VERY helpful, thanks! Would love some tips on cutting and pasting.
I use cubase since version sx3 , and those tips are very usefull thanks!
Great tips. I already use half of these but the other half have taken my workflow from fast to very, very fast!
Tip 10 is exactly what I needed!
Awesome! I'm glad it helped!
Yeah me too but if you map it to a short cut key, there's currently a bug, watch out. 'Ctrl Shift I' is the default but i prefer 'Ctrl E'
Thanks man! Very useful. It’s great you’re doing this.
Navigation is key on ALL daws...great video!
Thanks!
I just switched to using Cubase, this helped a ton! Thanks!
Very helpful for learning Cubase! Thank you so much!

10 great tips . my problem is remembering them ! , ha ha TU^ 22 Oh , just upgraded to 9.5 and took advantage of Strindberg black Friday deal and bought the absolute bundle , which included Halion 6 , so keep posting hints and tips and I will be watching

Great ! You can use CTRL+F for FIND, give you a select list of your tracks . useful
Very cool tips!
.I'm a new user of Cubase Pro 9.5,one thing I did first was to create my own key command for the shortcut list,ha,ha,instant referral!
That vid was seriously helpful. Thanks for putting the time in!!!!
You're welcome! I'm glad it was useful!
You are hereby certified "Cubase Guru"
Thanks!
Extremely usefull tips
thanks for tips!
Great video...very helpful and very time saving:
Really good video with the shortcuts that have been faded in so often - great for keeping them in your mind instantly !!!
With Zooming I do it nearly the same way with the mouse wheel - BUT I change the "G" and the "H"-keys to zoom vertically.
The trick with the Z to enlarge selected tracks is not bad but I use another key to do so. But I change the undo-function from Crtl-Z to "Z" - this is much quicker. I don't know how often you use the undo-function - but in my case it is very often.
That's a good idea. I've been thinking about remapping stuff to be more efficient. It's on my "2018 get more organized" list!
It's what I've spent the past few weeks doing. Applying new logic to all the shortcuts. Easier to remember, lots added. Here's where I'm at with it.

I started a thread over on Steinberg Forum too.
Thanx for sharing this! I will take a closer look at it.
Thanks, any input would be appreciated. I love hearing other peoples approach, it helps. The list under goes quite some changes but the link will always be the same one.

You're the best, bro! Thank you! T.T
It is really useful tips for me. Thanks :D
You're welcome! I'm glad they helped!
Thanks heaps man, this helped a lot. I am so used to Reaper.
Thanks! I'm using Reaper for a project right now! Switching it up is always a little scary at first.
Thank you, good sir!
Thanks a lot. Very helpful.
some great tips, cheers from Liverpool

I'm not sure. That's sort of what I use z for. I'm not sure if you can achieve that exact functionality with a key command.
Amazing thanks mate!
You're welcome! Happy to help!
Thank you!

do one on patch scripts for synths, sound modules how toinstall them create them and choose them in cubase 9

p.s. what program did you capture the screen? Very convenient zone approaches!

Sir Could you upload a tutorial about underwater effect ? I'm using the Fl studio,In the fl studio it's really easy to make also I want to know how to do it from the Cubase! Please do a tutorial about it thank you!
Add a low pass filter to the main output bus. Especially if want to sound like EVERYBODY else. Oh I forgot this is Hip-Hop/Trap land where EVERYBODY does sound the same. My bad.
TY mate, help me understood i absolutely need a cubase sticker for my QWERTY :D
Never thought somebody uses Z, I remove it ASAP to not distract me while Ctrl+Z. Disadvantage of Z is that it doesn't return to 2 rows or 3 rows height, it makes everything small. Definitely not my workflow. Wow, didn't know about Ctrl+left
ight - awesome! About "edit in plase" you can zoom pianoroll if scroll with cursor over keys.
good one !
great tips!
Thanks!
I'm just over a year late ...but I thank you for these useful tips! ;-)
Any chance to have them typed somewhere here so we could have these tips ready to print?
Do you know if its possible to access a given instrument track preset just by shortcuts? I'm struggling... My goal is to create macros that call a specific VSTi track preset.
You can better use the middle mouse button to navigate in your project left and right !
It will give you a hand icon and you will be able to scroll left and right and at the same time up and down !
Nice tips. Can I just ask you if you are able to get the old groove agent one working in Cubase 9.5? I have heaps of projects where I used GA1. I got it working in 8.5 but not the latest one. Cheers mate
Thank you. 👊😁
You're welcome! I hope it helped!
Great tutorial, please could you tell me how you zoom in at 4.12 on your screen?
I do that in Adobe Premiere while I'm editing the video. I'm not zooming in on my screen, I'm zooming in on the video of my screen. I hope this helps!
Talking Leaf Media thank you for replying! Keep up the great work, I’ve subscribed, and best Xmas wishes..regards, mike
hello dear i like your tips and they are helpful
and i want to ask u if u even had problem with cubase when u work on it it crashes and you have to restart the project and open the cubase again ?
hope to hear from you soon
No. Cubase basically never crashes on me. I can count on one hand the number of times it has crashed in my whole history with the program. However, I run only licensed 64-bit plugins and have high-spec hardware. I always keep Cubase and my operating system updated. Hope this helps!
this for ur answer
i am running the highest cubase 9.5 and imac 2017 17 4.2 gh 64gb ram 1tb ssd and it might be some of the plugins makes that crash but there is any way i can do treatment with out reinstall the app again ?
I'm on a PC. Maybe check the forums to see if there are issues with the High Sierra OS update (or whatever OS revision you're on), or check the plugin-sentinel to see if you whitelisted anything that you could blacklist and reevaluate. Other than that, I don't know what to tell you, but I hope it all works out!
thnx for ur help and ur time i will try to delete some of the vst and plugins might helps me thnx again
Hey ! Excellent tutorial ;) Which software do you use for the capture of your mic, the cubase sound and screen ? I'm struggling in finding the right software. Thanks a million !
OBS and VoiceMeeter. Both are free. Here is a link to a video I did about it: th-cam.com/video/Wkl2YTZ7lXI/w-d-xo.html
