Omg, they're hilarious! I've always loved their music, but now I'm falling in love with their personalities, even if they play it up for interviews.

MISA MISA MISA! ways to tell how old these vids are 1. Tiny Hat (originally worn by MISA) went by the wayside in late 2018. 2. Sai-chans Gravely Voice and reluctance to speak much She had Surgery on Her throat to remove Polyps in mid 2018. 3. A-chan was leader when they toured in the early days when the had to get there own way to venues and Lug their own equipment.
Miku really is into horses and horse racing. Saiki is into trains, and has quite a collection of model trains. She also collects trainers. Akane was a DJ for quite a while, she even DJ'd at Band-Maid gigs in the early days. Kanami likes coffee and cake and has a degree in economics.
Not forgetting Miku's poker passion and PUBG
The horse racing is very serious. Miku also plays competitive poker... You've seen through their disguises - they are very smart people. I'll repeat my request for you to watch the Band-Maid Young Guitar Unseen World interview.

If you watched the Day of Maid video they put out last month you would have seen Kanami girl crushing on Saiki again. Miku admonished Kanami by saying "hey we're not here to talk about your love for Saiki"😂
Wanko soba is indeed a small bowl of noodles. The point is to eat it quickly and get your bowl refilled. There's a few stories about the origin of this, but I don't know what's true. The sushi that Akane was talking about is, I believe, individual pieces of sushi that roll out on plates on a conveyor belt and you pick out whatever you want. I think the restaurant charges by how many plates you end up with, but I'm not sure.
I've heard Moa from Babymetal say she's "like a middle-aged man" (or maybe it was said about her), but I've had Japanese people tell me that's a Japanese girl's way of saying, "I'm not like other girls."
Before B-M, Miku was part of an idol trio called Lil Cumin. From what I can tell, Lil Cumin only lasted a year, but toward the end of their existence, they wore maid outfits that were closer to what Miku wore when she worked at the second maid cafe, @Home Cafe in Akihabara, Tokyo. Mika (she was known as Mika Noguchi during this time, and her name at @Home Cafe was Himawari which means "sunflower") went to Lil Cumin's management and said she wasn't feeling their pop music and wanted something more rock. The only thing she wanted to retain was the maid image. Management said okay, but she had to put the band together. The rest you saw in this video.

Kaiten sushi is two pieces per plate. I had it in London, and the plates are color-coded by prices, so they tally up your plates at the end.
This is after "Thrill" hit internationally. Along with Babymetal, Band Maid were performing outside of Japan. Japanese bands did not perform outside of Japan at the time. The music press, TV presenters and the music industry was blindsided. The Babymetal interviews are just as hilarious, they presenters were dealing with 15 and 14 year olds. Keep in mind the presenter are trying figure out why these 5 women are famous.
Akane was the leader early, she was the best organizer and was the one that made sure all the equipment was in the van, knew where they were going and what time to get there. Today they have a staff to do all of that.
Kanami has degrees in Economics and Marketing. MISA and Akane went to the Tokyo School of Music. The school's charter is to educate/train musicians for the Japanese music industry. To attend you must already know how to play an instrument.
You are on the right track with Miku. She is very smart, it's her band and she is the driving force. She deals with their agency and the record company along with writing all the lyrics. Recently she finished second in a National Poker Tournament. You would not want to negotiate anything with her, you would lose!!
I like that you look at and react to Band-Maid videos that show their off stage character. One way I've used to do that too is the P in D Photo Collages where older BM songs that aren't YT videos are set against a large number of photos, on and off stage, posed and candid.
So basically Kanami loves Saiki (not romantically but) in a high-admiration kind of way, so if Kanami keeps saying she likes Saiki and Saiki is her wallpaper and she got tons of pics of Saiki, media or fans might misundestand it's just admiration.
Miku was accepted to a local but excellent public university. But she dropped out and went to Tokyo to pursue her dream.
Reality Check TV on TH-cam had an interview with a translator. Young Guitar has one of their newest interviews. The Band camp one is pretty cool too.
Akane being the normal one is probably the biggest scam, started by Akane herself. Recently (in Band-Maid radio Nippon), Saiki and Miku talked about how Akane is always presenting herself as the normal one, even though she might be the craziest 😂
The titled these episodes "Ah-chan is NOT normal" even. :)

Btw, Akane is no longer the leader of this band. In fact, they don't have a band leader anymore. Each member has a role, and they are really close friends.

They have evolved a lot since then, they don't play up those characters anymore and are much more like their "real" selves nowadays. Too bad it's been a long time since an interview with all of them like this happened.

Akane was the leader at that point but since then they have discussed how Kanami is the leader in terms of music direction and rehearsals, etc., but Saiki has kind of the final say on whether something is cool or not. Miku is more of their promotional leader.
I'd been waiting for you to see this interview, from c 2016- I knew that you would appreciate the more charactor info about the ladies. A few other details about the members- Akane and MISA attended the Tokyo School of Music. The music deplomer course last for 2 years. Akane is acouple of years older than MISA so I think that they overlaped in c 2010 and started to hang out together. The played in a backing band for an Idol singer called Becky- there is video footage of this. The rest of the charactors you got dead right and a great mix they are, as you said. Miku is the rock behind the band and she had the first idea for the band in March of 2013 while surving in a maid cafe- the Moe Moe-Kune Kune chant in Miku's Magic Spell Time is a blessing that is said when the food was surved. The first live show was on 24 July 2013 as a 4 piece with Miku on vocals and Kanami on backing vocals, which she still does, and then as a 5 piece with Saiki on 22 Aug after she had been auditioned for the position. Miku knew about her, I think, because they had the same music agents. Great listerning to you again- keep up the good work. Are you going to see their tour in October?
Forgot to mention- I checked out Miku Kobato as she says that Kobato means small pigeon. This no wholey correct. The only Japanese dielect that I found a translation in was Katakana and It actually means Young (Kob), Pigeon (Hato)- hence the title of her EP Hatofull.
@@RTEcalcite01 Well, in the kanji - the Chinese sign when read in Japanese - "ko" does mean "small", like its opposite "o" means "large". Miku sometimes makes the joke that as they come to Dominate the World she might graduate from a "Kobato" to an "Obato".
The multiple readings in Japanese means "ko" can also be read as "chiisai" and "o" can be read as "ooki". "Ko" and "o" are Japanese readings of roughly how the Japanese interpreted the Chinese pronunciation 1400 years ago when they borrowed the writing system - but the Japanese language versions of the same concepts are "chiisai" and "ooki", i.e. small and large. However for names they often use precisely the "Chinese" version, in this case giving us "Kobato"="Small Pigeon".
The "b" crops up due to pronunciation rules - an aspirated Japanese "h" sound following a vowel tends to become a "b" (or a "p" sometimes); so "ko-hato"="kobato", or "hachi-hyaku"(800)="happyaku".
So "Kobato" does mean "Small Pigeon", and Miku sometimes further explains it in the terms of her being a "chiisai hato", a "small pigeon", using the Japanese pronunciation instead of the "Chinese".
If otoh one switches the order it becomes "hatoko", which means "baby-pigeon" (or "pigeon chick"), which incidentally is her alter-ego name as part of Band-Maiko.

With my basic knowledge and a trawl of translation sites I could see that there did not seem to be an obvious translation of Kobato. Strangely my wife suggested a Kanji/Chinese possibility. So basically I got the Young/Small Pigeon thing sort of right, for all the wrong reasons. What ever she calls her self, I just love everything about that lady. Many thanks for taking the time- a good read. Let's hope we get to see them soon.

Miku is definitely sly like a fox. She knows how important image is, especially in a crowded market like Tokyo. They have to stand out beyond their skill to get gigs.
Saiki's voice is rough here. She'd have surgery for polyps about a year later.
When the band formed, Miku was under contract. Apparently her agent/A&R rep thought she had talent and wanted to go further with her.
Kanami just wanted to write and play and didn't want to sing or be the "front". I think she always wanted to write music, however that was going to happen.
I think Akane was a little reluctant to join because she didn't think an "all girl" band would take the music seriously, and she wanted to make music her career.
MISA had been playing in a band (since high school) but her band was about to call it quits, and she wanted to continue playing. She also wanted to make music her career.
Saiki was under contract as a backup singer and dancer, but was not suited to the J-POP world either in tone or attitude. She fits with Band-Maid, though, despite the stage dress.
If you see any recent interviews, it's apparent that Miku and Saiki like each other a lot. Some of the interview is played up a bit, but it's not fictional.
Miku is from Kumamoto on Kyushu, so that might be the equivalent of being from Kentucky. She's smart but also persistent and fearless. She plays poker too.

I've seen this awhile back maybe a year or so this was great enjoy you commentary if you get a chance to react to puzzle acoustic it might shed some light on the kanami saiki relationship also now you know why when kanami raises her guitar up she's telling saiki this is for you or just a show of affection towards saiki they do have several interviews out there so be well and if you can find the acoustic version of puzzle it's well worth it ( bring tissues)
30 minutes for Band-Maid is nothin. Fact, MISA just posted she's drinking a lot less these days and is happy about it. Miku is part owner of a race horse and recently finished 2nd in a poker tournament in Japan. Akane is no longer the "leader".
Apparently her horse is called "Subarashī Geirī " (Awesome Gary) but i don't know if that's true or not.😏
