"hence Miku's adopted persona of being an 802 year old pigeon po" That's close, but she is an 810 year old pigeon. It's kind of an elaborate wordplay based on the way numbers can be pronounced. There's a lot to work with, since the Japanese language has more than one number system. hato (pigeon) = 8 + 10 Kobato: 5: go → ko (which can also mean "little") 8: ha(chi) → ba 10: tō → to
I like to imagine Kanami walking in public totally anonymous, while some street reporter randomly interviews someone pointing at her and stating: "Would you believe if I told you there goes one of the greatest living guitarist in the world" I guarantee no one would believe it and that is a real shame. In fact, it should be criminal that Kanami and the rest of the Maidens are as obscure as they are. What really is criminal Band-Maid has less than half a million subscribers to their channel. Meanwhile, some kids have millions of subscribers watching them play video games. This band needs to be illuminated.! It is a real shame they are not given their just due.
It is a little crazy to me that they don't have more subscribers. It annoys me to no end when a reactor tells me to" like and subscribe" to their channel, but then I notice they aren't subscribed to BAND-MAID and didn't even bother to like the video they just reacted to.
I feel sad for the people who would find their music as uplifting as I do, but will probably never discover them. For the band themselves, if they're happy and financially secure doing what they love (which they seem to be), that's the most important thing. If "world domination" never happens, then there will still be many thousands who know that Kanami is a genius.
Yeah, Kanami has this "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" aspect to her. Mild-mannered and polite until she plugs into her Mesa Triple Rectifier, twists the gain knob, and she suddenly becomes aggressive and forceful. There's a fan-cam from Dallas Sep 2019 where she's introducing "Don't Be Long" and she starts yelling "Are you ready?" ARE YOU READY?!?" It's pretty awesome. The song, too.
"YAEBA = 八重歯(やえば)" I'm Japanese and commenting from Japan. Japanese women have small jaw frames, so their canine teeth do not fit and they tend to have double teeth ”YAEBA”. In Japan, ”YAEBA” are considered beautiful and many people keep them as they are without correcting them as a part of their personality.
@@takahaya5915 Yes..I believe Saiki was born with it...but I am not 100% sure..but I believe it to be true. I also know some have had dental cosmetic work to get the same look. I feel like many it suits Saiki....It's apart of her.
@@Bodneyblue I can assure you that Saiki was born with ”YAEBA”. That is how common people with ”YAEBA” are in Japan. I also have such ”YAEBA”. There are many people around me who want to get their ”YAEBA” fixed, but I have never heard of anyone who intentionally got ”YAEBA” for appearance.
@@takahaya5915 In America, actresses who have some distinguishing characteristic will have cosmetic surgery to make them look like all the other actresses. It's a shame, really. Whether it's crooked teeth (or a gap), or a mole, or a bump on the nose, those "flaws" are how we are known. We are all beautiful with our flaws, just as we are.
@@surfingasongwave I think you are right. As you know, Japan has long had the concept of "Wabi-Sabi". The meaning of "Wabi-Sabi" can be simply explained as "Things are beautiful precisely because they have flaws". In the age of the Internet, most Japanese people understand that people overseas are very concerned about the alignment of their teeth and that Japanese people are born with bad teeth. I was a little disappointed that SU-METAL had to get her ”YAEBA” fixed because BABYMETAL was a hit overseas. Especially since singers are told that fixing their teeth could change their voice.
The video Band Camp is cool . Miku recording them interacting at a cabin that they were practicing at before a tour . Mostly Miku and Akane in it but funny.
Everybody else has said this too, but Miku's stage name is 小鳩 ミク = Kobato Miku where 小 = small, and 鳩 = pigeon, so Kobato is "small pigeon." A small pigeon says "Kurrupo!" Someone correct me if I'm wrong but this looks like a late-night television show "Kannai Devil" on TVK Yokohama. Kannai is a neighborhood in Yokohama, and the set looks like a bar where the guests come in and discuss the questions they previously answered. They are promoting the "Conqueror" album, so this seems to be just before the Line Cube Shibuya servings on 13-14 Feb. 2020, just before COVID shut everything down for two and a half years.
Yes Miku's "Magic Spell Time" is a way to interact with the audience while the rest of the band take a break....And as you said..it is a carry over of her time in the Maid cafe in Akihabara, Tokyo. Some miss guided folks don't like it as they want the concert to be to their liking rather than the true fans...But you'll always get those who are selfish just don't get it it's not just about them. I personally love it!....No other band does it. And it makes those who truely do love the band feel closer to their hero's...It's what makes them so special..not just the music... but also them as people...Long May They Reign.
these interviews are great so do more. I am a maidiac as the music is awesome, so quirks dig into some more cause it's fun and nothing really bad is there because they sound TOO good.
I don't know what the japanese terms for the teeth that mentioned (there is a term for that). But, in Asia we called it as Tiger teeth and some called as Vampire teeth. We believe that it could protect ourself from those "things". I also have 2 teeths similar to Saiki. However, I'd read an article about the teeth in Japan where it represents the beauty of a Japanese lady.
The Guitar World interview is more serious and about the Music of the Unseen World album, the Herman Lee Twitch interview with Miku and Kanami is another good one !!
Great interview and reaction ! FYI, Miku’s family name, Kobato, also means “small pigeon / dove” - and hence her alter ego. “kruppo” is the Japanese version of the sound that pigeons and doves make, Po !
Miku's Po sentence endings come from an abbreviation of Kurrupo, with a rolled 'r', the sound a pigeon makes (in Japan anyway). She also has a solo music project under the name Cluppo, which was done to make the pronounciation easier.
So alot of u fel the same about saiki so you're good and kanami is like the proverbial dr.jeckel and Mr.hyde love them all you did another fantastic job on the commentary also ( akane let everyone have go on the drummer) another good one don't forget the hug, hug, hug you'll love it be well
