Hi, I'm a historian of ancient warfare and fan of the chan. That sequence where you're googling when Rome is had me in stitches. I love the way you're always emphasising that you're just figuring it out as you go, even as we all come to you for explanations. As for Jinx's effect on Ambessa, I always wonder if this is what it was like when Alexander the Great at the Hydaspes or the Romans at Heraclea first encountered war elephants. "Dude, you can't just make up new animals!" Unfortunately the shock always tended to wear off quickly, but there would have been that moment when they heard the first trumpeting pachyderm and wondered what fresh abomination Singed had cooked up in his lab.
As you can imagine, that googling sequence actually happened while I as writing the script, and then i was like "lol ok this is def going in the video 😂" I actually was going to use Theoden's reaction to the oliphants in return of the king as another example! Yeah I've always imagined random farmers in northern italy looking up from their field work and seeing hannibal's army go by and being like "uhhh WTF???"
@sportenapfeltorten2095 that's so kind! But I'm over here like "I wish I could do what Schnee does" As it happens, I will be talking about Theoden and the oliphants in the next Insider video. @@schnee1 there's also a dimension to this that plays out in much of "real" military history. Ambessa is disturbed by the very notion of weaponising magic, since it "violates the most core of Noxian principles" etc. In other words, it offends her sense of fairness. An honest warrior would rely on skill and brawn only (because then Ambessa wins). No one should get to have any means of fighting that she doesn't master. The Romans would often complain when their enemies relied on ambush tactics, surprise attacks, or used terrain or weather against them: it's not fair if Rome doesn't get to win by default! Ambessa's entire war is to either root out all weaponised magic or to obtain a stronger form for herself. This is another way in which Jinx represents a "third player" - she doesn't follow the rules or either Noxian brawn (she lost her fight with Rictus) or of the established ways of fighting with magic (hextech, shimmer, mage stuff). So Ambessa is at a loss but also immediately furious that there should be yet another way to fight.
Another aspect I love is the context of what that whirlygig MEANS. For the entire show, this was Jinx's private space. All of 4 people are ever shown in there, and they are very specific people to Jinx. Silco, Sevika, Isha, and finally Ekko. It's Jinx taking her home, her "safe space", and bringing it outside. She is, finally, just letting it all hang out. So there's this aspect of vulnerability to it, but even that is an act of bravery. She's not being WEAK vulnerable, she's allowing herself to be vulnerable as a show of strength. Jinx is all-in in a way she's never been before. It's a bit like in a kung fu movie when you have one fighter square up, but in response the badass just casually strolls, no defense, no stance, with a confidence that says they don't NEED to do that.
This is so well-analyzed and well-written but I can’t get over Jinx “just letting it all hang out” 😂 That said, you’re so right; I love your comparison to fighters dropping their guard as a show of confidence - this feels like the first time we’ve ever seen Jinx defined not by someone else’s expectations for her or some past mistakes she’s made, but purely by her own chaotic, self-made persona. And it’s just fkn spectacular to witness
@@latbil yeah, it just seemed the best phrase for her demeanor, and I do love throwing around slang from a truly stupid number of decades, this one being from the '60s. And it's also that she's not trying to define herself by these connections, but also not denying them. She's integrated all these fragments of her self identity into one whole that is FULL of contradictions but she just doesn't care.
It's also a sign that she may know she's not coming back after the fight. Like maybe she moved into the Firelights base by this time. But part of me thinks she was basically burning everything in the tank.
I'm SO glad some else is commenting on that and giving analysis. I was going nuts when I first realized and then was utterly baffled that no one was addressing it.
@@coreyholt8522Good news for you; Jinx isn’t dead. When she blows herself and WW, u see a flash of purple (watch frame by frame). She used her shimmer speed to escape. And it’s also indicated that she left in the airship [Im tired of typing so search about that yourself]
Could be. But could it also be that she was living with Firelights in their hideout and considers this place her new home, evidenced by the artbook where she says "Firelights, trust, home"? @@MrViscious
16:00 also, if you look at it more "you're not alone, look at my shadow behind you like a ghost" plays when Ekko finally emerges and takes action in the fight, acting like Jinx's 'ghost' because he was behind her :D
And it also continues in so many ways. 1. We have Chinese parts sung by the male voice (representing Ekko). Chinese being a representation for Isha. 2. The opening being Spanish while Ma Meilleure Enemies is French while both languages don’t have any world building reasons to be there means they show the difference between the two worlds. Ekko while being influenced by AU Powder still only listen to his own music. 3. We have also the mentioning of „double snake“ referencing Vi - Jayce Teamup. Doubling means everyone is on Vis side. And there is so much more. Its insanity
@ honestly could be but still same rule applies (thought it was Chinese because yet another language for just random words would be kinda insane). In this case its showing Jinx telling her own story as well. No matter how you see it its awesome 😎
@ parts are in Korean/Chinese and parts are in Spanish. Especially the Korean/Chinese part is easy to miss as it is the first verse of the song. It is clearer once you hear the Spotify version without the background
“I can help them.” For me this is why this scene hits. When Powder says this in S1E3 it’s like a wish, and this scene is the wish finally coming true, even after she explicitly denies that this is possible.
A detail that doesnt add much, but loved anyway was that Ekkos hairstyle also changes. He keeps it the same as before in the front, but adds a bun/ponytail in the back. I think of it as him acknowledging and carrying over his time spent in AU world and the impact it had on him. For both Ekko and Jinx, there is this duality that they decide to deal with by accepting both versions of themselves as well as embracing the new (and unknown) version that they are building / awaits them in the future. Which makes lots of sense as a healing step, considering that both were robbed of a choice to what they could have been, have their current self crushed in front of their eyes, and now are left to figure out what they will become.
to me, what they did with the music in this second season is way beyond what they did in the first season. Not only do we have more tracks, but we also have more scenes where the music is fully integrated with the storytelling.
Yeah they said in a an interview that the diff between S1 and S2 was the music were made specifically for the scene in S2, so they sent each artist a draft of the scene and had the song made to go perfectly in sync.
@@AmataTai I looooove Heimer’s song so much, as soon as it started playing I was like omg they let Heimerdinger sing an entire song for a montage, this is SO on brand for Arcane haha
@@titi3736 In bridging the rift there is a scene of christian talking with someone through the phone and already planing to give more liberty to the artists, because they had the time to do scenes that fully integrated the song. On contrary to season one, that they had to adapt a song to what was happening in the scene.
Seeing Ekko and his wingmen swoop into the tower like dive-bombers gave me literal chills. The sound of the hoverboard along with the music was incredible.
Probably the only time you see her confused! which makes it stand out even more. I also love Mel’s angry yell in the opening title… you never see Mel raging, so it’s shocking when you do.
Then Isha's goggles and bunny ears (she wore while staying at Jinx's place) are definitely going to blow your mind... The whole blimp as well as Jinx's outfit are a massive reference collection of people who Jinx cares about.
When I was watching for the first time, I thought, "wow, that Ambessa entrance might have been the coolest I have seen since Darth Maul. The music, the way she disassembled Cait's rifle like a child's toy." Then Jinx was like, "hold my beer."
yeah, Ambessa's entrance was glorious, like winning was her divine right, her plan was perfect, but then Jinx enters the scene like a goddamn firebomb, just pure unstoppable power
You showed the picture of Ecko in the throne but also neglected to mention that the song that plays at that point is “misfit toys” which the lyrics talk about “playing with the misfit toys” and then this song with Jinx is literally called “come play”
I love how much jinx and ekko mirror eachother it's shown in their outfits their hair (they even speak similarly sometimes with the same inflections) I don't see it mentioned much tho
The flow for the felix rap part when ekko comes in also has a very similar flow to one part of dynasties and dystopia, the song that played during the season 1 episode 7 jinx and ekko fight
Probably why they scratched the jinx and ekko moments (that + time and cost), sure it would have been cool to see how Ekko convince Jinx to join the fight and see them bond a little bit more but it makes her entrance that much more powerful. Here's to hoping we'll get all the scratched Jinx/Ekko content (S1 and 2) in a flashback in one of the series where Ekko is rumored to be a main protagonist ! A man can dream.
I don't know if someone mentioned this before but I also think the young Miko rap being in a different language is a huge addition to the subtext. Jinx( most definitely represented by the Miko part) is a complete anomaly, something incomprehensible to Ambessa and even the piltover army. And the fact that they kept felix ( stray kids rapper) in English even though the band is Korean adds to this. The language change feels intentional in a similar way to using Mandarin for Isha's song
Yes I also noticed this. Especially in AU Ekko/Heimer - all the songs are in foreign language except for Heimer's song because he's from the OG world. I believe it's deliberate but haven't seen anyone else mention this.
I never thought about it before this video, but I love how you still get the "Jinx Scratches" in this scene, but now, with Jinx confident and in control instead of freaking out. The ultimate, subtle way to show that she is still Jinx, but has fully accepted who she is.
15:34 The very first thing I made out was “You’re not alone” when watching the first time. Catching that during Ekko’s entrance was so awesome but then seeing the rest of the undercity too, right after Ambessa begins trying to shoot Jinx down, it felt like “no you aren’t touching Jinx while we’re all here” and I loved it 🥹
i also think that the blimp represents something beautiful as both a combination of jinx's and ekko's characters. ekko's whole deal with the tree where it's seen as a symbol of reaching to the light, of growing out of the darkness and misery that is the shimmer-infested undercity, is reflected in this scene. like you said with jinx being in the sunlight for the first time now! she's reached for the light, she is not just surviving now, she is thriving. but another thing i've seen mentioned is that this is literally her HOME. like her underground bunker bat cave. she and ekko have somehow managed to hook up this entire underground hideout to a freaking balloon and launch it up into the wide-open sky. it is so incredibly satisfying to know that the moment jinx took her first confident, triumphant steps into broad daylight, she did so with EVERYTHING SHE IS, literally and physically. she purposefully included aspects of every person that has influenced her, turned her into what she is now. (something something i am a mosaic of every person that's ever loved me) one final thing i love about this scene is the little sketchy glitch effect that happens when she lifts her head and we see her face for the first time with the young miko verse. like you've said in past videos, this glitch effect is a representation of all of her confusion surrounding with her identity, the different images of herself and expectations placed upon her clashing together. in season one this manifested into her violent outbursts and breaks from reality, but here it feels like a triumphant acceptance that she IS a chaotic mess of different identities. she is jinx, she is powder, she is both, she is neither. coolness factor to the MAX! her confident smile as the glitch effect happens really stood out to me, because when the effect happened in the past, she would flinch or grimace to indicate her discomfort with it. but not any more! i love your work, keep doing what you're doing!!
this might be strange but the feeling I got during Jinx's entrance in this scene is the same feeling I got during Warwick's entrance in episode 4. This sort of anticipation, or realisation of "shit's about to go down"
A thing I really loved about Jinx' entrance, but I've seen no one else comment on, is her hood with the teeth and eyes making her look like Fiddlesticks, with her hair serving the place of its tongue. I feel like it wouldn't make much sense in terms of Jinx' knowledge, since Fiddlesticks isn't from anywhere around Piltover and Zaun, but at the same time Fiddlesticks is the Ancient Demon of Terror, and I feel like Jinx lives up to exactly that in this scene; an unknown and quite frankly horrifying (from Ambessa's perspective) creature, come to torment them. Would love to hear opinions on this, since I may just be biased due to my pre-existing love for Fiddlesticks as a character In any case, really well-made video, always love hearing you analyze and break down scenes, and I just LOVE understanding scenes and writing in greater details
You know, I never saw it like that. I always saw it as the shark head, but you might be right on a meta sense. Another nod to Fiddlesticks was in episode 2 when the strike force used the gray to ambush Jinx. Which in my mind was a nice nod to him since the undercity does know what the Gray is and does somewhat fear it.
The hood with the teeth is an hommage to Isha, her hat had the same pattern, same for the giant bunny ears on the balloon. And same for giant buttons that also were on Isha's hat (I saw it on a video analisis, it's almost impossible to catch all the details on a regular watch)
Ok but can we talk about the strategy of this entrance? Every bit was thought out and i love it. 1. Jinx is the distraction. She's loud, colorful, and everyone is either gonna say "who the heck is this" or "omfg it's Jinx". Either way, they are focused on HER. 2. The color explosions are both a distraction and a cover for the Zaunites to attack 3. She chooses an airship. Both Piltover and Ambessa are ground based, so she takes the sky where she has an advantage and can practically mow them down while they scramble out of range 4. Being in the sky (before it crashes) a base for the firelights. I imagine the idea wouldve been to stay airborn as long as possible for reloads/retreats if needed. You've covered it in previous episodes but the firelights swarm and scatter when they fight, having a hanger off/away from the battlefield would be a huge advantage I imagine that Ekko probably did most of the strategy but I love that if you pay attention it wasn't her usual "blow sh*t up, see what happens" style but it makes you think it is. God i love this show 🥰
I've been a Stray Kids fan for almost 2 and a half years now and it was so insane to hear that they would be on the ost for one of my favourite series of all time. I'm so glad they're song was used for jinx's seen as that energy matches her so well, especially your section on 'empowerment', although Stray Kids weren't credited under thins song, they're songs usually follow this meaning on empowerment, boosted with tons of youthful and high energy undertones
I’m so glad someone else is obsessed about this entrance enough to make a video about it. I’ve watched those first few seconds so many times because the coolness factor is off the charts and so much is being said without dialogue. It screams attitude and “what are you gonna do about it” middle-finger type energy, which jinx is ironically missing thanks to Caitlyn who is as confused as Ambessa.
Love the new funny editing style that schnee is utilising. Also if we're getting an almost 20 minutes video on 1 minute of a scene about the music it uses, then could you imagine the rest of Arcane season 2; Ashes and Blood, Ma Meilleure Ennemie, The Line.
This scene also follows so many of the points you made on the jinx torch scene from S1. Even the "one small thing" point. in the torch scene it was one torch, but you could argue jinx is "just one girl" compared to a whole battle! I also think the clip where Steb gets up with the soldiers is a beautiful summary of the feeling. from literally kneeling unsure of whether you'll live, to "grab your guns let's go!" it's so beautiful
Right?!! I have about 90% of season 2 OST on repeat and will add maybe … two season 1 songs to my queue lol Beautiful work; super grateful to the entire Arcane team ♥️
No.1 "I show the schemers just how pathetic their attempts at control *really* are" Tolkein called the turning point, the 'eucatastrophe' likening it to the turn of the tide. I love how the chaotic energy completely rejuvenates the Piltover fighters. It's a similar moment to Thor's arrival in Infinity War which I also love.
Another intro scene i love that’s like this is in Tron Legacy when Kevin Flynn walks in and touches the ground and changes the entire atmosphere. I love these Arcane video essays
@ i believe he has “computer programming” type powers like Neo, but he embedded most of that power within CLU to “create the perfect system”. It appears to me that he needed CLU as an interface but still had some direct access. So placing his hand down changed the lighting and atmosphere in the room. Basically, the creator’s presence was made known. Where he had previously denied Sam his willingness to get involved, now the father steps in at a critical time to demonstrates his involvement in his action (the hand). The atmosphere change gives Sam a renewed conclusion to the scene. Instead of Sam captured, Kevin’s Disc is taken instead.
this entire scene definitely has to be my #1 favorite moment from the entire series, before this scene it probably would have been the vi sevika fight in season one and then ishas death (not because "wooo death!" but because it made me full on fucking bawl as someone who rarely even has tears form in their eyes) this scene just hits all the right marks, the music, the pace, the sheer fucking awesomeness, one of my favorite parts in it is when the firelights all jump off the balloon, fall through the blades of it and all fly back up through the blades in a fanning out motion and then later ekko coming in with the gopro shot that just has such a unmatched ENERGY to it that I can't explain, I know the hoverboards can be fast and incredibly hard to use probably but just the way it's framed and animated gives it a real sense of insane speed and control when the beat dropped I was like mentally jumping out of my fucking seat, brain leaking everywhere from hype truly the most important thing when doing anything is, "PRESENTATION!" as megamind would say
seeing jinx in this fight scene gave me so much hopeee!! i love her theatrics she just looked so resolved and seeing her in this energy :) she is awesome. 4:00
Yeah, Fortiche absolutely CRUSHED it with the sound tracks through out every song they got for the show is just perfect for where its put and meets and extends the mood of what they're trying to show so bloody well
I love that you made a breakdown for this scene. Jinx's entrance in the finale holds a significant amount of personal and emotional weight that I won't bore anyone with here, but I literally get teary eyed when I watch this. I absolutely loved this scene and your breakdown, as always, was amazing!
how do you feel about vi’s arc? lots of people think she’s sidelined or poorly written, and im inclined to agree because her choices rarely affect the plot and her pitfighter era was so short
i only needed one second of the distant music to realize it was Jinx, then i thought: "YEAH JINX LET'S GOOOOO!". Also the change of Ambessa's expression is mad respect for Jinx, before her arrival, the war was like walking on a park for Ambessa, super easy and everything going as planned (she even wear off the mask to breathe while smiling).
The music this Season was the Most impactful Emotional Audio amplifier in media I have ever seen. The Impact and the Quality are immeasurable. The Best Series of the last 2 decades.
13:58 there is something i realised here which i believe is important to note. although it is technically a switch to non-diagetic, it is a more accurate depiction of what Jinx is actually hearing in this moment. she is experiencing catharsis here, fuelled by the adrenaline of war and the drive to show herself in full display. with her full focus on this task, the sounds of the spinning blades, engine, and more would be completely diminished by her own music in her mind. it's not just more immersive for being in your face and bassy; it specifically puts you in the perspective of Jinx.
I've been a fan of arcane since the first season came out, and funnily enough I became a Stray Kids fan the year after, when they realeased the ODDinary album. When I first saw their name in the OST, I was shocked and I knew they were the perfect fit for this show. Having their music in a Jinx scene, IN THIS SCENE, was crazy!! The way you described Jinx in this video is exactly what their music is and they've got so much hate because they are loud and have fun mixing different sounds to make their own unique style. Seeing this parallel between fiction and real life is really cool. I also have been watching your videos since S1 and (I don't know how much you know about SKZ) but having you praise their song is really amazing, like these 2 worlds mashing together. Great video! Can't wait for your next one!!
Incredible analysis!! With lots of debates online about Arcane Season 2, The music implementation is just not one of them. Absolutely redefining how music is implemented on a scene. Such Masterpiece!
STRAY KIDS EVERYWHERE ALL AROUND THE WORLD. Love that they could make an appearence in this scene. It suits the badass entrance of Jinx ane her chaotic nature so much.
I wrote an essay which included this scene. One of the things which I looked at is the use of language and how they use different languages to show different worlds. In this scene we get 3 languages one for piltover one for the jinxers and one for the firelights
16:23 - The only weak part of this scene is how easily this massive shimmer monster thing goes down. That thing should have been a whole big problem to work around.
This scene gives me wild shivers every time I watch it so you can imagine the state of my skin by the end of your essay AHAHAH also would love to hear more music analysis from you, it was so insightful!
I wanted to love season 2 so badly, and I almost had hope it could be good with the 2nd lot of episodes but after the finale I was extremely underwhelmed. Not mad so much, more like "really? That's what you went with". Schnee is probably my favourite analysis youtuber but sadly none of these videos are convincing me. One of the reasons I didn't like it is all the characters completely changed between seasons and to me some became corny caricatures of themselves. Jinx especially. This coolness you are talking actually perfectly helped me to realise why I DONT like it funnily enough. That is, why is she suddenly the "hell yeah so cool" character? A really interesting and compelling thing I felt about the 1st season was that it combatted the "crazy psycho killer girl who's also just so cool" by showing- no its not cool, not at all, no one should want to be in position of Jinx. It's sad and scary and visceral. Not haha the voices XD but you see her being capable of being rational and getting close to the truth about Vi and Cait but her delusions stop her, causing her to assume the worst possible situation about them because of what Sevika said, someone she doesn't respect at all. Being horrifically traumatized as a child doesn't make you cool and edgy, she's stunted, she acts as a selfish little girl and does not understand her violent actions. She is hyper attached to people, like a child, with extreme abandonment issues that drive all her actions and makes her miserable. It's not cool or admirable. And what was so shatteringly tragic and deeply powerful was that she didn't come back, she chose jinx. She chose to be evil, destructive, chaotic (not in a cute way) to be a villain, even blaming Vi for it. And she seals this identity by firing a missile, which she made seeking approval. And she's sad, but it doesn't make her less awful, even though we feel so much sympathy for her. But in the end she couldn't escape her madness or look past herself to anything else. So why when we see her in S2 is she kinder, why is she looking out for that girl, why is she being so nice to sevika? why does she care to find vi and help Vander? Why does she become a hero this time? Giving in to the chaotic, self obsessed, destructive part of yourself makes you capable of being a hero? Or all your choices don't matter so just be nice please, we love ur bombs and spray paint
Speaking of music that sounds similar the first bit of guitar in "Sucker" is the same as "Breathe" from legends of runeterra as well. Great video as always
top 2 scene in the whole show and it aint number 2 not just because its dope asf, but also the story behind it. this is right after she was about to blow herself and ekko up. like many, my favorite dynamic in the show is timebomb. to think that ekko helped her reach this stage even after she was at an all time low is so inspiring.
I really enjoy the fact that i'm not the only one who understood the freaking importance of music in this Art which is Arcane. I also appreciate your videos because, in you Mr. Schnee, i see what the people can get away with, after watching Arcane. To live it, to let the amazing scenography pierce through your mind and you body, to feel what the characters feel, to go after every single dettail. For that i thank you.
My contribution to Bunny theory, this is the first time we also see Vi's rabbit flying and soaring and displaying a sense of ownership in the sunlight. As the last time, the bunny was suspended in the air would have been when it was hanging from telephone wires.
In the music scene if you listen to the recording vs what they do in the show,, they change the order of verses totally. When it first shows Jinx it uses a more feminine voice for her intro and when Ekko comes out it switches to the cool guy voice when it shows him flying out.
6:22 I could not have summarized this hairstyle any better, it’s interesting in its shape, again tying back to vi and ekko, but it’s in the way that hair is related to memories. Like how after a break up a girl might chop her hair to symbolize new growth.
Again this scene is really cool theres just a part of me thats really disappointed we jump from her attempt at ending it all to seeing this scene which tells us she had this massive character development and it all happened offscreen
I’ve got to say Your breakdown of arcane is fantastic. I get so much more depth into the fine details arcane has to offer that would otherwise go unnoticed if it wasn’t for your videos. It’s visually entertaining, I learn something new every video, I can feel the charisma, just overall love the videos. Thank you for your effort.
17:50 definitely, if you want a good understanding of some of Arcane's music at a theory level, i recommended checking out Cel-Shaded Music Theory's youtube channel, he currently has 2 videos on it Whats amazing is that from the first time we see Jace with sorcerer Viktor, there's a motif that's hidden in the music, which is the same motif that plays with Viktor for the rest of season 1 I highly recommend checking it out!
The word that comes to my mind when I think of Jinx and Ekko is "irreverence". That pose of her in the Jinx chair and Ekko's in his throne of light? Yeah, those are two kids that don't care what the grown-ups try to make them do. They're going to do their own thing. They're smart, they're stylish and they're going to shake things up whether the "powers that be" agree with them or not. Ekko and Jinx are the two biggest trouble-makers in the whole series. Ekko's always been that "good kind of trouble" guy while Jinx hasn't been a pure in her intentions. In other universes, their styles sync up really well like in Chroma Crash skins. But we see what a "good kind of trouble" Jinx could really do and what potential she and Ekko had if they'd been able to work together longer.

This is so well-analyzed and well-written but I can’t get over Jinx “just letting it all hang out” 😂
That said, you’re so right; I love your comparison to fighters dropping their guard as a show of confidence - this feels like the first time we’ve ever seen Jinx defined not by someone else’s expectations for her or some past mistakes she’s made, but purely by her own chaotic, self-made persona.
That's a great observation.
It's so crazy how she turned her house into a blimp of death
It was always a blimp of death. She just never had the right event to turn up with it.
It makes you think she was definitely ready to die :( “welp i won’t be needing this home anymore… lets turn it into a warship and crash the party”
@@coreyholt8522 damn I didn't even think of that. She was never going home one way or the other.
@@aetherwolf9288 Pretty sure that's Korean and not Chinese lol (Stray Kids)
@ honestly could be but still same rule applies (thought it was Chinese because yet another language for just random words would be kinda insane).
In this case its showing Jinx telling her own story as well.
No matter how you see it its awesome 😎
@@aetherwolf9288 bro couldn't tell it was in english😭😭😭
@ parts are in Korean/Chinese and parts are in Spanish. Especially the Korean/Chinese part is easy to miss as it is the first verse of the song. It is clearer once you hear the Spotify version without the background

“I can help them.”
For me this is why this scene hits. When Powder says this in S1E3 it’s like a wish, and this scene is the wish finally coming true, even after she explicitly denies that this is possible.
What a payoff.
Heimerdinger going full bard and giving music to a section of story was one such that caught me off guard
Music in this season was better than the first. I’ve legit had all the songs stuck in my head. That French song and To Ashes and Blood.
Ma Meilleure Ennemies
This song freaking broke me
@@aetherwolf9288 it broke me too😭😭😭
The soundtrack is both sweeter and harder than season 1! some songs make you cry, others make you want to mosh.
I've had it on repeat while I drive for weeks haha
Nah S1 is more consistent. There are a few skips in this season's playlist, but only 1 in S1's
I love how Jinx is just posed up on the throne of her balloon, not caring at all.
I thought she looked resigned; about Isha, at least 😔
But yes, it all does read cool and clearly hypes us all up lol
@@Wazzaaap criminal how her death was never brought up, not even once lol

It’s ok bud. We’ve all been there 👍🏼
Seeing Ekko and his wingmen swoop into the tower like dive-bombers gave me literal chills. The sound of the hoverboard along with the music was incredible.
I'm glad I'm not the only one that thought that engine rev hyped things. Pretty sure that pitch up is an intentional climactic effect
@@KC_Smooth The GoPro shot was so cool!!
12:00 YOU’RE DOING GREAT, CHUCK!

Love how many of the songs were sung in different languages in this season!
Arcane oozes representation in a way that just feels natural and it's a thing of beauty.
Same! I think I counted 5 (English, Korean, Spanish, French, Mandarin)?
@@moththechangeling8522 it's not in the language but renegade sounds very Indian inspired (the artist is Indian I think).
13:04 Ambessa’s disturbed facial expressions kill me every time 😆
Probably the only time you see her confused! which makes it stand out even more. I also love Mel’s angry yell in the opening title… you never see Mel raging, so it’s shocking when you do.
ambessa is literally a representation of every parent hearing kpop for the first time XD
Oh my God I just realized she has the Mylo and Claggor dolls on the blimp I'm gonna cry
Then Isha's goggles and bunny ears (she wore while staying at Jinx's place) are definitely going to blow your mind...
The whole blimp as well as Jinx's outfit are a massive reference collection of people who Jinx cares about.
@@Daddo22This from a girl who was afraid to allow herself to care about people for fear that she would have to watch them die...
@@Daddo22 also under VI's bunny looks like Isha's helmet/hat to me but I could be wrong
Your ending note is so on the spot... in League we call it a gank, where a 1v1 is turned around with the introduction of the jungler.
THE BRAMBLEBACK HAS LEFT THE JUNGLE 🗣️📢🔥🔥
The flow for the felix rap part when ekko comes in also has a very similar flow to one part of dynasties and dystopia, the song that played during the season 1 episode 7 jinx and ekko fight
I was so enthralled in that scene and felt hopeless for our heroes that I forgot Jinx even existed. Her entrance blew my mind on so many levels.
(something something i am a mosaic of every person that's ever loved me)
one final thing i love about this scene is the little sketchy glitch effect that happens when she lifts her head and we see her face for the first time with the young miko verse. like you've said in past videos, this glitch effect is a representation of all of her confusion surrounding with her identity, the different images of herself and expectations placed upon her clashing together. in season one this manifested into her violent outbursts and breaks from reality, but here it feels like a triumphant acceptance that she IS a chaotic mess of different identities. she is jinx, she is powder, she is both, she is neither. coolness factor to the MAX! her confident smile as the glitch effect happens really stood out to me, because when the effect happened in the past, she would flinch or grimace to indicate her discomfort with it. but not any more!
i love your work, keep doing what you're doing!!
this might be strange but the feeling I got during Jinx's entrance in this scene is the same feeling I got during Warwick's entrance in episode 4.
Would love to hear opinions on this, since I may just be biased due to my pre-existing love for Fiddlesticks as a character
In any case, really well-made video, always love hearing you analyze and break down scenes, and I just LOVE understanding scenes and writing in greater details
Is this Ludwig's alt?
You break my awesome meter, man!
Ok but can we talk about the strategy of this entrance? Every bit was thought out and i love it.
1. Jinx is the distraction. She's loud, colorful, and everyone is either gonna say "who the heck is this" or "omfg it's Jinx". Either way, they are focused on HER.
2. The color explosions are both a distraction and a cover for the Zaunites to attack
3. She chooses an airship. Both Piltover and Ambessa are ground based, so she takes the sky where she has an advantage and can practically mow them down while they scramble out of range
4. Being in the sky (before it crashes) a base for the firelights. I imagine the idea wouldve been to stay airborn as long as possible for reloads/retreats if needed. You've covered it in previous episodes but the firelights swarm and scatter when they fight, having a hanger off/away from the battlefield would be a huge advantage
I imagine that Ekko probably did most of the strategy but I love that if you pay attention it wasn't her usual "blow sh*t up, see what happens" style but it makes you think it is.
8:22 pouring salt and sugar my favourite edit in the entire video
omg I'm honored yay!!
as a huge kpop fan and arcane fan, I love that kpop was used to represent jinx’s unique power in this scene
Yes! More Arcane content! Because I can't get the show out of my mind and I need more.
it's been a month... i still can't get over it.
YESSS I WAS WAITING FOR THIS ONE!! stray kids never misses and this scene had me giddy - thanks for the analysis bro!!

Mel and Ambessa: super serious, conventionally epic confrontation with conventionally epic compositions
Jinx: FORESHORTENING BABYYYYYY
Love the new funny editing style that schnee is utilising. Also if we're getting an almost 20 minutes video on 1 minute of a scene about the music it uses, then could you imagine the rest of Arcane season 2; Ashes and Blood, Ma Meilleure Ennemie, The Line.
Can we talk about how just how fucking cool Ekko is though?
8:22 i shouldn't have laughed so hard at this😂

This scene also follows so many of the points you made on the jinx torch scene from S1. Even the "one small thing" point. in the torch scene it was one torch, but you could argue jinx is "just one girl" compared to a whole battle! I also think the clip where Steb gets up with the soldiers is a beautiful summary of the feeling. from literally kneeling unsure of whether you'll live, to "grab your guns let's go!" it's so beautiful
"She doesn't know about the bunny. She doesn't know about the monkey" says it all
I have been listening to the song list for this season non-stop. It's all so goooooood.
Right?!! I have about 90% of season 2 OST on repeat and will add maybe … two season 1 songs to my queue lol
Beautiful work; super grateful to the entire Arcane team ♥️
No.1 "I show the schemers just how pathetic their attempts at control *really* are"
Tolkein called the turning point, the 'eucatastrophe' likening it to the turn of the tide.
I love these Arcane video essays
lol that scene stuck with me too, and i dont even really get what hes doing?? but still awesome moment
The commitment to always calling Theorem "Chuck" will never not be funny
Chuck, chucking a molotov cocktail
1:50 "She doesn't know about the bunny" said dead serious and so menacingly just made me burst out laughing
this entire scene definitely has to be my #1 favorite moment from the entire series, before this scene it probably would have been the vi sevika fight in season one and then ishas death (not because "wooo death!" but because it made me full on fucking bawl as someone who rarely even has tears form in their eyes) this scene just hits all the right marks, the music, the pace, the sheer fucking awesomeness, one of my favorite parts in it is when the firelights all jump off the balloon, fall through the blades of it and all fly back up through the blades in a fanning out motion and then later ekko coming in with the gopro shot that just has such a unmatched ENERGY to it that I can't explain, I know the hoverboards can be fast and incredibly hard to use probably but just the way it's framed and animated gives it a real sense of insane speed and control
when the beat dropped I was like mentally jumping out of my fucking seat, brain leaking everywhere from hype
truly the most important thing when doing anything is, "PRESENTATION!" as megamind would say
seeing jinx in this fight scene gave me so much hopeee!! i love her theatrics she just looked so resolved and seeing her in this energy :) she is awesome. 4:00
Yeah, Fortiche absolutely CRUSHED it with the sound tracks through out
every song they got for the show is just perfect for where its put and meets and extends the mood of what they're trying to show so bloody well
I love that you made a breakdown for this scene. Jinx's entrance in the finale holds a significant amount of personal and emotional weight that I won't bore anyone with here, but I literally get teary eyed when I watch this. I absolutely loved this scene and your breakdown, as always, was amazing!
Alex "MAKO" Seaver - the man behind Arcane's soundtrack - is the GOAT.
how do you feel about vi’s arc? lots of people think she’s sidelined or poorly written, and im inclined to agree because her choices rarely affect the plot and her pitfighter era was so short
Small thing but I love the fact that her blimp was her lair from throughout the whole show.
SCHNEE IS LIKE THE AVATAR HE RETURNS WHEN I NEED HIM MOST❤️
Not Aang having been absent for a whole century, yeah
i only needed one second of the distant music to realize it was Jinx, then i thought: "YEAH JINX LET'S GOOOOO!".
13:58 there is something i realised here which i believe is important to note.
although it is technically a switch to non-diagetic, it is a more accurate depiction of what Jinx is actually hearing in this moment. she is experiencing catharsis here, fuelled by the adrenaline of war and the drive to show herself in full display. with her full focus on this task, the sounds of the spinning blades, engine, and more would be completely diminished by her own music in her mind. it's not just more immersive for being in your face and bassy; it specifically puts you in the perspective of Jinx.
agreed... this scene is pure art
tho my absolute favorite was The Line... it contains so much relevance to characters' emotions and arcs
The line honestly deserves its own video
@9:42, Very cool paying homage to one of my favorite characters Theorum, way to go Chuck, you are doing great!
1:03 signature look of superiority
I also noticed the edge coming up a lot. Another place it shows up is in "The Line". Victor went over the edge.
6:58 I think the ho.od is an homage to the monster do.odle on Isha'a helmet. Jinx's hair even kinda functions like a tongue XD
I wrote an essay which included this scene. One of the things which I looked at is the use of language and how they use different languages to show different worlds. In this scene we get 3 languages one for piltover one for the jinxers and one for the firelights
seeing this as a puertorican also adds to the experience, listening to young miko out of actually nowhere fried my brain on first watch
i think we can all collectively agree that 8:22 is just peak video editing
hehe thank you 😸 !
by far my favorite song scene! their arrival just exudes badassery
I can’t get over the look she gives in that scene…so COOL!
16:23 - The only weak part of this scene is how easily this massive shimmer monster thing goes down. That thing should have been a whole big problem to work around.
I'm glad I'm not the only one OBSESSES with that slouch
Or all your choices don't matter so just be nice please, we love ur bombs and spray paint
season 2 is ass. That is. There is no discussion to be made here
Truly amazing artistic analysis of all parts of the scene. Love the work you do!
Omg i love your vids amazing channel and analisys

Speaking of music that sounds similar the first bit of guitar in "Sucker" is the same as "Breathe" from legends of runeterra as well. Great video as always

Jinx is such an absolutely fun character, I love her SO much this season
14:08 "It's me! Your big fat hero!"
top 2 scene in the whole show and it aint number 2
not just because its dope asf, but also the story behind it. this is right after she was about to blow herself and ekko up. like many, my favorite dynamic in the show is timebomb. to think that ekko helped her reach this stage even after she was at an all time low is so inspiring.
Her Captain's Chair is the Jinx seat
I desperately need the extended cut I need the cut Ekko and Jinx content bad
8:23 that's one of the best antithesis I've ever heard 😂
“Its style, its bunny, its hoverboards- its CHUCK.”
It switches to the male singer when Echo shows up and moves to the chorus when everyone else shows up, also really well planned out
I’ve got to say Your breakdown of arcane is fantastic. I get so much more depth into the fine details arcane has to offer that would otherwise go unnoticed if it wasn’t for your videos.
It’s visually entertaining, I learn something new every video, I can feel the charisma, just overall love the videos.
Thank you for your effort.
My mom said it wasn’t dramatic enough and the gasp I gasped at that.
8:24 Pouring powder on the wound.
17:50 definitely, if you want a good understanding of some of Arcane's music at a theory level, i recommended checking out Cel-Shaded Music Theory's youtube channel, he currently has 2 videos on it
Whats amazing is that from the first time we see Jace with sorcerer Viktor, there's a motif that's hidden in the music, which is the same motif that plays with Viktor for the rest of season 1
I highly recommend checking it out!
