Today I'm showing you how I turned a jar into a Christmas Gingerbread House Lantern using polymer clay.
This is just one way you can decorate your jars, there are so many things that you can do!
The way I made the roof is totally optional. I wanted it to have sides like the jar to match, so I had to make a structure out of thick paper to support it, but you can use tin foil to make a structure too, like I did in my Witch House Tutorial (Link below).
I removed the tin foil because initially I was going to "sculpt" the tiles on it, so I needed support inside while doing that; but I didn't like the idea and then moved on to piping the tiles instead.
Of course, the lid needed to be secured to the paper structure for the whole thing to turn together when opening and closing the jar (naturally!), and because the tin foil was coming off anyway from screwing and unscrewing the lid, I removed it and attached the lid and paper structure together with clay. If you decide to make a paper structure, skip the tin foil and just attach the lid and paper structure together.

PS: Use an LED tea light to light the house, not a naked flame and to paint the windows you can also use glass paint :)

Thank you. I simply do not have the time to work on pieces to sell, I do it from time to time. I have other projects I am working on, projects that are more important to me than crafting and I'm aiming at completing them soon. :)

I wouldn't have used a paper roof. I would've only used the foil instead to make it waterproof or more resistant. Awesome craft! You're really skillful

Would you consider a small tutorial on how you crafted the paper skeleton for the roof? Type of paper you'd recommend, glue etc. ty ❤🍄
I don't think I'll be making a tutorial for the paper structure, it's extremely simple. I'll try and think how to post it somewhere so you can get an idea. I used drawing paper which is thicker than regular paper, but you can use card or cardboard. As long as it keeps the shape it's OK.

Hi Maive, can you mix either a small amount of clay or acrylic paint or soft pastel to liquid clay to colour windows but do you can still see the light from an led candle? Love your work 💖

I am ultra inspired by this video! I have been using paper clay, however, because of this video I want to try using other mediums. Is it possible for you to list all of the products and tools you used in making this gingerbread house?
Beautiful and very inspiring. I’ve made a fairy house from air dry clay before and then painted it, but I really prefer polymer clay. How and when did you bake the clay to cure it? Can you bake them with a glass jar inside? If you can’t bake them, how well do they last before they get damaged from uncured clay? Many thanks for such an inspirational tutorial . Other comments mention a voiceover but all I’ve got is music, am I doing something wrong?!
You do have to cure the clay in the oven - otherwise you can use air dry clay. The clay cures at 110 degrees celsius, and I put the jar/house in the oven first and then turn the oven on so that they warm up together. I never had any problems whatsoever. Hope this helps :)
Glass in the oven will crack. How do u keep it from cracking ? Do u let the temperature gradually cool before removing clay?
In place of the polymer clay what can i use

Thank you Megan :) I honestly don't know, and I gave it to my mum so I can't even weight it. I would say around 3 packs of 56g. But it could be more, it could be less....Sorry X

Thanks, I used drawing paper which is a bit thicker than printing A4 sheets for ex, and yes, it was safe to bake.
