    Hi everyone! Today I'll be showing you how I turned a jar into a toadstool fairy house lantern using #polymerclay ! I used a regular sauce jar for this project because I like #recycling things, but you can buy one too if you prefer. If you want to recycle one, just remove the label and wash it thoroughly.
    If you're new to this channel make sure you subscribe and click on the "bell" icon to get notified when new videos are up and if you liked this tutorial, why not give it a thumbs up and share the love?
    Have a request for upcoming tutorials? Let me know in the comments!
    Love, Maive
    PS: I recommend using an LED tea light because they're safe to use, especially if you're looking to make this jar for your children as a night lamp, where they run no risk of getting burned.
    ✿ Share your recreations with me using #maiveferrando on Instagram or other social media sites, I love to see what you guys make following my tutorials!

      Well, I did a practice run with blutack / press-stick and it's not too bad. So fingers crossed. I might make them hollow and add led lights.

    • @debbscustomengravings5226
      @debbscustomengravings5226 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      well, it went so so. I made it hollow, after a lot of restarting (nice thing about this stuff) and finally got my house. Then baked it, and made the roof seperately, then burnt it. However, as it is a sort of mushroom house, the burnt bits aren't too much of a problem. It's a pity I can't add photos on here as I'd like to show you. I haven't painted it yet and still need to add some bits to it, but so far, so good. Sort of.

    Thankyou! love this!! I have a large circular piece of bark that that I wanted to make into an open back fairy house...I want the roof area to be hollow though...so I think its possible to bake and remove the tin foil and then work from there?
    I ...am a beginner....and I made a hollow...grouper fish (unfinished)...which is going to be for a fairy mermaid to ride...but I think I made a mistake...I have glued parts....
    (I made an access panel) to the inside of the fish) and now I think I can't bake it anymore...or maybe if I bake it I will just have to reglue the fabric hinges?
    Also I don't know if acrylic paint can be baked...
    Love your work Thankyou!

      I don't know if you take doll face requests...but I would like to learn to make doll faces that are very realistic..no makeup and I guess a greyer or more matte skin. I am interested for example in making a doll of Queenie (a herbalist bee keeping character on Larkrise to Candleford). I love her beautiful plain face, and simple skin tones...

    Maive, I was just wondering... do you have any trouble when you bake that your clay cracks? I have been having trouble with that, especially when I bake more than once... any tips for this problem?

    • @MaiveFerrando
      @MaiveFerrando  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Benjamin, I did find that it cracked when I first started working with it. I tried different things and in the end for me, lowering the temperature to between 110 and 120 degrees celsius was what helped. It could be that your issue is another, like not conditioning your clay properly prior to working with it, sculpting in very thick layers, trapped air, etc. So ignoring these issues, try lowering the temperature and maybe (if possible) protecting your pieces from direct heat or temperature fluctuations with an oven safe dish. I really hope this helps :) As for my houses, yes I do sell some of them and you can find them on my website www.maiveferrando.com or Etsy Shop: www.etsy.com/uk/shop/MaiveFerrando?ref=seller-platform-mcnav

      It does go a long way, I may have used 4-5 of the smak 57g packets approx...most of my blocks were already opened, or had already mixd colours, so I can't tell for sure...

    These are super cute, I also make these but I put a lot more detail on mine because I just love adding lots of special little details.
    Might I suggest a few tiny toad stools around the bottom of your jar. Toad stools usually grow in bunches so it might add a little something extra to your jar. Otherwise it’s wonderful as is.
    I make doll houses 🏡 too. so I am always trying to come up with ideas for those small special touches that make these works of art fun to look at. People will stare at them for hours to find all of the hidden features😂. Thanks for the great video😁👍Dee

    Did the jar not break in the oven? I thought the glass jars would shatter in the oven.

    • @MaiveFerrando
      @MaiveFerrando  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, I never had a problem with jar and many crafters use them. The temperature is not high enough to break it. I bake my jars at 110ºC and I usually turn the oven on after putting the jar in the oven, and start counting the minutes once it reaches the right temperature. That way the oven and jar warm up together. In the future you can read my video descriptions for all the info, so you don't have to wait for me to answer ^_^

    Oi Maive, preciso fazer uma pergunta mas não sei se você vai me entender porque sou brasileira... reparei que no final você se despede também com um tchau tchau que é coisa de brasileiro então vamos lá; a pergunta é; depois que você dá a forma ao objeto com vidro dentro, você coloca no forno para que fique dura e seca??? Estou preocupada com o vidro porque pode quebrar né? Ou não tem perigo? E essa massa é a mesma massa FIMO que é vendida no Brasil??? Amo seu trabalhos e como trabalhei com biscuit quero tentar com essa massa que me parece que é melhor e não racha e é mais flexível! Vou esperar você ver aqui e tentar responder kkkk... obrigada! Bjos

    • @MaiveFerrando
      @MaiveFerrando  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hola Lorena :) Si, la temperatura es muy baja para que dañe el vidrio. Yo lo que hago es poner el frasco en el horno y despues prendo el horno, asi los dos se calientan al mismo tiempo, y no hay riesgo de que el vidrio sufra un cambio de temperatura fuerte y se quiebre. Espero que se entienda. :)
