Actually on Castiel's "out of place" portrayal, Misha said himself that as the first angel to appear on screen, he wanted to lay down this distinct trait (which makes sense because as an angel he rarely went to Earth) of angels being unfamiliar to humans. I think the other angel actors are supposed to follow this trait but it seems like because most angels are not a long running character like Cas, they didn't give their character that much thought/detail. So it might be a sort of accident that Cas ended up very different from other angels lmao
"So he remains as he is: a self-hating, deeply repressed man. One who, even after all these years, still longs for a distant past where he was still able to convince himself that if he did this or that right - if Sammy stayed safe and sound and happy - he'd finally get everything he always wanted..." This stings so hard after watching the finale and seeing that the writers thought that a fitting conclusion to Dean's arc would be to keep Sammy safe and sound and happy just like his father always wanted him to. That his perfect reward would be to finally die (because he's life isn't worth anything else). That his perfect heaven for him would be to live down the block from the toxic abusive father who ruined him so that maybe daddy could finally tell lil dean that his proud of him and how he fulfilled his purpose just like the blunt instrument dear dad always raised him to be.
Destiel is an absolute tragedy of wasted potential. Even aside from that, though, there were several points when I thought the writers had the opportunity to set up a really interesting final narrative arc and they just never took it. The original ending at season 5 was great, obviously. Then in season 8 they could've really dug into Sam's return to normal life vs Dean's struggle with abandonment and guilt as applied to both his brother and Cas, and all of the boys' desires to find purpose. Heck, maybe even Cas becomes human and stays with Dean as Dean accepts that he can finally let Sam go. In seasons 9/10 I thought they were setting up Demon!Dean to eventually take over the throne of Hell while Cas's rebellion usurped rule in Heaven, and then we could've had a narrative where the two of them became eachother's cosmic balance, where their personal bond held both sides in check and finally ended the ongoing struggle. Even after Jack came into the picture in the late seasons, I was hoping for some sort of thematic clarity where he and his power parallels Sam and his demon-blood thing, and the Winchesters could have a chance to redeem the trauma that John put them through during that whole ordeal. Idk man. SPN kills me because it was never great but there were enough elements to keep me invested for all 15 seasons. There was always so much potential in the stories, but never quite the right payout. The characters were so complex and interesting (and, dare I say, relatable?), but they weren't explored in the depth that they deserved. No catharsis to be found for the hell that these characters (and the audience) were constantly put through. I watched this show for 11 years and THIS was the ending they gave me instead. Ugh.
i totally agree, didn like the ending too ,didnt like that bring mary again or cass deal about jack, but okei maybe there were some difficulties bcause of covid but still i believe i was an excuse, the part that i didnt like the most was about Cas,he was saved yes,why they didnt mention him at all? did he really meet dean again? so many questions for our imagination
This is the truest comment ever. SPN had so many amazing plot points and ideas but the majority were not executed well or simply went nowhere. Not to mention the amazing complex characters, not only with Sam, Dean and Cas but all the amazing side characters they couldn't stop killing off. It was all just enough to keep me around for 15 seasons to be handed one of the worst endings in tv show history. This story deserved a better ending and I will forever be mad about it lol.
@@thepacksurvives71 to me the only characters that actually had a great ending was jack becoming a deity so at least the hell that Kelly went through in season 12 and her dying wasn't for nothing and rowena because she became queen of hell and out of all of the female characters she was the only one who had a great ending to her story 🤯😬🤪😡🤬
@@cynthiaholmes5124 I didn't really care for Jack's ending either but I didn't hate it. I much preferred Amara to end up as God. I'll never get over Jack becoming God and then still bringing back monsters. IT MAKES NO SENSE lol! Rowena was the only character who I thought had a decent ending.
@@thepacksurvives71 yeah that's another big problem with supernatural the way the female characters were treated I really hate it amara definitely deserved a happy ending she's one of my favorite female character's from the show along with rowena 🤯😬😡🤬👩💼👩
They really got like 75% of the way there to telling the greatest slowburn love story ever told and then dropped the ball. Anyways, this video is SO good and I could not stop laughing at the clip choices.
@@Laura-we6xi 1) Even if it had just been a few jokes / bits of fan service like other shows do (which it definitely wasn't) what you just described is the literal definition of queerbait 2) There were actually many love stories, not just Dean and Cas's, in the show! Though I do agree there was textually no confirmation on Dean's side there was a deliberately written love story on Cas's side. Just because it's a writing choice you disagreed with doesn't mean it didn't happen 3) Why are you watching these videos if it's a topic you are not interested in?
@@tabitcha because Im allowed to watch what I want and I found this video by chance. There wasn't any love story there was bromance.People ship whatever they want in their minds but it doesnt mean it's true.I used to ship Jared/Jensen very much especially because of their funny cute interactions that made it look like they were gay but that doesnt mean its true.Supernatural always let CLEAR that Dean was not only hererosexual but also a womanizer.Even in the scene 15x18 all sound weird.Even if it was romantic Dean clearly wasnt much impacted by castiel feelings positively judging by Jensen's face.
@@Laura-we6xi I'm not an RPF shipper on any side but I mean if I was shipping just based on cute and funny interactions / bromance moments, I'd be a Sastiel or Crowley/Cas shipper. They have lots of funny moments that you could say were "gay" but were clearly just jokes. Dean and Cas have overall story and arcs centered on their relationship though, which have gone through all the go-to romantic tropes at some point. Again, I can't argue with you on Dean's reaction/feelings because as Jensen said himself his feelings are all up to interpretation. But Castiel WAS written as being in love with Dean for at least the enterity of S15. It's totally fine if you thought it was bad writing or not super romantic (which wouldn't fit the tone of the show anyway), but it did happen and was the culmination of a character arc not a one-time incident.
To be perfectly honest, what this show does is constantly line up intriguing and beautiful lines of dominos, that you know if they just knocked them over, would create something incredible. Then you watch them reach out, touch the first domino, and gingerly tip it the wrong direction. The dominoes go nowhere. It does nothing. And not just with Destiel, there are so many sickass concepts that they just didn’t do anything with, like Leviathan Castiel, or Dean being a full demon, or any number of one-off characters who were compelling enough to be recurring voices. Or hell, the Wayward Sisters that we never got, I’m still mad about that. It just feels like any time they created anything genuinely beautiful it’s because they tripped over the dominoes and made part of a picture.
One of my biggest grievances with Supernatural is the whole "Deanmon" story arc. Here we have this man, this broken man with no self worth, who's biggest fear is failing to fulfill his whole as a protector. This man who actually went to hell and got broken further, giving up after years of non-stop torture only to become a master torturer himself. We have him become an actual demon, something that was foreshadowed as a major antagonistic moment for him, a demon cursed with the original curse passed onto him by a knight of hell and... he's just annoying? He did worse things in hell as a human soul? Such wasted potential for some actual exploration of his character...
What really pissed me off with this “ending” was that it could have been so much BETTER....and they wouldn’t have had to change much at ALL. And they would also not have had to bring in more people(that’s been touted as why Eileen for example, wasn’t there....it DOESNT explain why she’s totally ignored, like the character didn’t exist, however). The way I see it, it unfolds thusly. It’s the same up to Dean meeting Bobby in heaven, and Bobby telling him that time works differently in heaven. Cut to Sam with baby Dean and he’s holding a locket with Eileens picture and crying. Implication is that she’s died in childbirth. We still get the montage of young Dean growing up but there are pictures of Eileen, On the wall, on the bedside tables etc. Meanwhile, in heaven, Dean pulls up at the bridge....he’s waiting. Cut to Sams death, then a shot of him hugging a small dark haired woman(they could body double Eileen) kissing her and signing and saying, “I’ll be back, I just have one thing to take care of” . She nods , but says “I’m coming too and they both get into a car and start to drive. Sam pulls up to the bridge and sees Baby and smiles, gives Eileen a quick kiss and gets out, the brothers meet, embrace, Dean greets Eileen and hugs her yadda yadda. Cut to the boys standing by Baby and Dean says something like “welp Sammy, I guess it’s time to hit the road” and Sam is like “Damnit Dean, it’s SAM” and he reaches for the passenger door and Dean shakes his head smiling, and nods to the car he arrived in, Eileen in the passenger seat. “You’ve got your own ride Sammy. Besides, there’s somewhere I have to be” he hugs Sam again, waves to Eileen and slides into baby and drives off in a flurry of gravel and we watch ad Sam gets into his car, hugs Eileen and they drive off. Cut to overhead shot of baby travelling down a tree lined road.....inter cut with shots of Dean, smiling, looking nervous, and scanning the side of the road intently.....in the distance we can see a figure walking along the verge, in a tan coat and dark trousers. We see baby pass the figure, who looks up, revealing dark tousled hair, as baby hauls to a stop, then backs up, stops alongside, and the passenger side door is opened. They talk for a few minutes tho we’re too far away to hear what’s said, and then the man in the tan trenchcoat gets into baby, the passenger door closes, and the last sight we have is of baby peeling off up the road with two heads visible in the front seat. That’s all we needed. You didn’t have to be explicit if you didn’t want to be......just that. It’s kinda heartbreaking that they honestly thought what we got was ok.
They could’ve had Dean finally be okay with himself after death, then finds out Cas feared Dean’s reaction. So it could’ve happened after their ‘deaths’
@@ultravioletpisces3666 I would want that too, except seeing an old Dean when we compare it to old Sam scares me. Sometimes we can’t have everything, and not seeing old Dean is sort of a win compared to what could’ve happened.
@@ultravioletpisces3666 deans death was okei and acceptable like a finale, the worst part it was about cas,did he met dean again in heaven? thats the sad part, was he forgotten?
I am nuerodivergent (specifcally high functioning autism and ADHD) with bad anxiety. I related to Cas in the earlier seasons a lot. He's definitely on the spectrum of nuerodivergency.
i hate the fact that everyone blames jensen and misha for the poor writing choices that supernatural made. i'm sure misha and jensen would've been perfectly fine with dean and cas being in a relationship, being that they said the scripts were made for dean and cas to be flirty, but i constantly see them getting bashed on twitter for destiel not reaching its full potential, and it's honestly so upsetting.
I'll admit, that was short-sighted of me. This was made really lost in the sauce of 15.18, before we knew why Jensen hated the finale so much and that there were over 5 minutes from the scene cut, but it's really not an excuse to bully these actors.
I’ve heard that the ending was supposed to be different but Covid ruined the ending. They couldn’t have as many people and they had to be careful. I honestly wish they waited to film the ending but they probably had no other choice.
The Hozier vibes oh my gosh... The insane amount of potential this show accidentally stumbled into will never not kill me. Also, bottom paragraph 25:46 is giving me major HBO Spn vibes. Anyways I'm tired and my brain is barely functioning right now but i really really liked this video. And your sense of humor! It was good. Lots of good stuff. *thumbs up emoji except I'm on laptop *
That hozier bit got me 😂 this was really well thought out and a great analysis of their relationship! For me I was always drawn to it simply because of how “pure” it was in a sense. It was raw, selfless, and complicated at times. A really beautiful concept with boundless potential that shows how not just to love others, but love and heal yourself. :)
I loved this video and your ideas for how Dean and Castiel’s relationship could have been explored and tying it into Dean’s self-worth. I think Destiel should have happened in S8 since Dean seemed to be really experiencing growth in his character that season and kind of moving away from the “Sammy over everything,” narrative that he had going. He was forming friendships with Benny, Charlie, and seemed to be open to trying new things (LARPing, dressing in lighter colors, etc.) I’ve always read Dean as a bisexual character and would have loved to see him finally embrace that side of himself with the love and support of Castiel. One of my favorite Dean moments from the later seasons happens in S9 when Dean goes to a church and makes a confession, “There are things, there are…people, feelings that I want to experience differently than I have before…Or, maybe even for the first time,” I think Supernatural could have done a lot more with its 15 seasons if it structured itself differently. S1-5 was about stopping the apocalypse. Everything had been building up to that S5 finale. S6-10 should have been structured around closing the gate to heaven and hell. Everything building up to a finale where Castiel permanently sacrifices his grace to cure Demon-Dean and becomes human for the rest of the series. Season 11-15 should have been building up to them defeating Chuck. And the ultimate finale where Team Free Will is still going strong and leaving the ending open-ended with the three (or 4, if Eileen is with them) of them riding off in the Impala to go on a hunt.
Sorry but Jensen did not acknowledge bisexuality of Dean. He turned down one of the SPN fans' question about Dean's sexuality in an unprofessional way and made the poor fan cry after that incident.
Hell, I'm not the only one constantly frustrated by the fact that Dean's issues are ignored completely. I wanted Dean to give Sam the middle finger and care about himself since season 1. Cas would've been the perfect one to help him I think. He was also the only one who could match Dean when it came to being devoted and protective towards the person they care about. What a missed opportunity with this pairing. A goddamn shame...
@@fortuneisyours someone clearly never watched the show. Sam spent the 4 months Dean was in Hell trying to bring him back, tried to make a deal with Crowley to bring him back. The only times Sam didn’t try to bring Dean back or save him was with his soul gone or that year between seasons 7 and 8, and I honestly can’t blame him for that one considering both Dean and Cas seemed to be dead. Every other time, Sam does absolutely everything he can to save or bring Dean back to life except for the finale, and that’s only because Dean begged him not to
@@deadpooldan9862Sam in Season 8 is wildly out of character. If he spent 4 months trying to get Dean out of hell. Why wouldn't he try to get Dean & Cass out of Purgatory? Doesn't even matter if they died or not. Sam WATCHED Dean get ripped to shreds by the Hell Hounds. He knew Dean was super dead. Yet he still tried to get him out of Hell anyway. Sam not even bothering to look for Dean in Season 8 is terrible
It's because the whole show was kept going on Sam and Dean's selfish codependent relationship like without that there would be no show it's what they used as the glue to the show. Supernatural is also written like a drama series this i realize now we were all so blind about a great many things while it was on air and the hype was as high as Chuck. Dean crumbling on the floor and looking like that though it's because this whole time they've also just been using Castiel for their survival we wanted to see Destiel so bad we misread it. Sam and Dean were also in total denial that Castiel loves Dean although Sam less than Dean so i think it really hit Dean now about what he had done which was leading Castiel on. It kind of did the first time Cas said "your my family, i love you" the same look on Dean's face feeling terrible but then they went back to being in denial because well obviously they had to keep the whole they're in denial thing going so they never made it fully hit Dean until he actually heard it out of Castiel's mouth at the very end.
I enjoyed every minute of your essay aaaa!!! Cant wait to hear more from you in the futureee, your writing and humor is chefs kiss as some say ahgaahh!!!!
I really wished they didnt reveal Cas feelings only in the last scene he would be in... Season 15 was so busy with plot and leading to the finale that they had no real development in there. Also most of the season Dean spent hating Cas... I just feel like they should have said something in earlier seasons. the confession just seemed out of nowhere to me and I'm sad that the show ended that way.
i agree with this! he was so mad at him,we didnt even see cas so much and the worst part is that in the end he died for dean, the confession was kinda too much i guess but what happened next? He died! and never mention him again in last episodes, did they really met up in heaven again?
im not even a supernatural fan- i only ever watched it as a little kid because my mom enjoyed it and before the final, i hadnt thought about the show for years- but this video was so so good. really well written and edited. cant believe you dont have more subscribers!
Castiel sacrificed himself one last time huh And then Jack saved him from the empty ig so ... Thanks Jack? Dean at least seemed ... Incrementally happy that he's not stuck in megahell, although I'd only really believe this if I saw a scene where they didn't mention Cas at all. Like, would he act like Cas ever existed? Some other miscellaneous thoughts: - living pocket watch??????? I'm CACKLING. But yes I agree, Neil would have liked to live in a world where we can freely discuss our seperate interpretations of the relationship, however, we live in a world where some people have to clamour for actual tangible representation so ..no, not yet - no, always be anticapitalist on main - I wonder how much Misha's portrayal of Castiel as atypical kinda stemmed from how he thought angels would be from our perspective. Like, was there a discussion of if all the angel actors would do this? Bc I can't see another reason for him to decide on this portrayal and not realise the consequence - basically I just agree overall, this plot just about wrote itself just from the concept of these two characters coming together and letting each other heal and grow. Luckily for me, I've always been more obsessed with ships because of their potential, both inside and outside of canon, and therefore I don't really feel like my love of this ship changes, because its potential is still there and still explored by fans and content creators like you, but I do feel deeply saddened for how their "denial" of this ship tremendously downgraded the ending. In avoiding the Gay they really did just delete a key character huh. But anyway, more power to the wincest people I guess, good on you lot And yes I am rambling essentially to myself but I have Opinions™ and making a video like this myself seems exhausting. So here, written word vomit instead 😂😂
Jack didn't save Cas. Cas saved himself. His declaration of love was one at his last stage of self-actualization on his purification journey. He was the Moon, reflecting on his own maturation through mirroring (and what great mirrors he had) he was the Mother, the Empress. And also reflecting the Sun's light (Dean) You changed me. Thus when Castiel said I love you, he spoke his highest truth and was FULL. The Empty never claimed him. In death, he shed his grace and went to Heaven.
There's a clip of Misha saying that he thought and interpreted, as the first 'official' angel on the show, that all angels were these beings who had no idea how earth and humans and emotions work because Cas hasnt been on earth in eons, but none of the other actors followed suit so cas ended up being the way he is, I think the writers just went along as they moved through the seasons
@@elenabaek3004 We never see Dean meet Cas explicitly, no. Misha's last appearance as Cas was in 15x18. (and that is hell of strange since Misha is in one episode *less* this season than previous seasons.
@@a.3032 i read somewhere that cass wasnt going to rebiult heaven in the first place but bcause covid they changed the plan, and the plan for cas so i want to believe thats the reason we didnt see him,but it still hurts, right?
I probably shouldn't be speaking because I'm like several years late to the party, and also because I haven't watched SPN for years. Once the God stuff came around and the writers did away with the creature-of-the-week, I fell off, but I made sure to on occasion read up on what was happening in the universe, and look up some scene compilations. I say this because as an outsider, with the amount of flirting Dean does, the constant mention of Dean being Castiel's boyfriend, the meta humor taking aim at Destiel, and the way Dean was a little too uncomfortable by (ONLY) his male homosexual peers (like he didn't like how some of those fine, strapping young men were making him feel), and the sometimes "No Homo"-ness I remember seeing or feeling from the show, I definitely believe Dean might've been a "repressed bisexual" and if the writers WANTED TO, Destiel could've been a thing. I also, as an outsider, say that I have seen the writers winking and laughing at you. "Seeee? Seeee? We did the thing you like. We did it. You thought we were gonna go all the way, though. Right?" *Wink Wink* If you felt like this ending was a middle finger to the viewers, it's because the writers have literally been giving you the bird the whole time. We're talking about writers who started a show in the 2000s making this a REAL BRO-SHOW (look at Dean's character), and where for a while almost every act of homosexuality was literally demonic in the show. By the 8th season the writers were literally laughing at the idea of Dean being bisexual courtesy of some writers commentary (so they themselves have had conversations about Dean's sexuality and have questioned it), but due to the show still going because of enthusiastic fans (a lot of them Destiel shippers and not their desired demographic as far as gender and sexuality), and them realizing that they actually did write Dean as fluid in his sexuality, they started to lean into that fluidity even more, just to keep the show on and be even a little spiteful. *Wink Wink* I think there might've been a possibility they didn't like that their bro-show was only continuing because of the "the girls and the queers" (to qoute some random person in a comment section who believes that's what caused the downfall of SPN). Kind of like this Matt Rife comedian. He hates his mostly women demographic, and makes it a point to make fun of them in his sets.
@@NewYasmine-nl9jq I feel a little bad for viewers. They keep talking about a season 16, and I don't doubt that if one came, that they would even address Cas' confession. They only had him do that because they believed they wouldn't have the responsibility of following through, and that it would be enough for viewers who liked Destiel, and wouldn't piss off other viewers too much - it's why Cas hadn't greeted Dean in heaven (not covid). At the very least, a conversation needs to be had between the two characters - either to confirm or deny Dean's feelings.
The thing that bothers me is like WHY would they not simply lean into it?? You created this connection between two characters and that gives space to explore them further and develop the characters even more. Castiel is an Angel, hes not even supposed to be in love like that, hes meant to be loyal to heaven! BUT he disobeys! Great thats awesome, good interesting. Now with DEAN I think is where they dropped the ball. Dean struggling with an attraction to men would make so much sense! It would also further explore his relationship with J*hn. Bc yall cannot tell me J*hn Winchester ist homophobic. The man instilled thid idea of masculinity (as he understood it) into his kids since FOREVER. His sons are soldiers, meant to be gruff and unyielding and driven by anger and revenge and shit... So imagine Dean realising that he liked dudes too (which I think there is ample evidence for) and specifically CASTIEL. Like idk Id have found that interedting to see bc I struggle with that too as a bi person. Idk I feel lile they accidently created this relationship and then they noticed and just queerbaited for YEARS instead of simply making it geniuine. And about "why cant men just be friends" THEY CAN?? Castiel and Sam are friends! Crowley and Dean had a frenemies arc. They were friends with Kevin (although that was more like an older brothers type thing I guess) They just refused to make Destiel a thing and also refused to give us more Sam and Cas being friends moments which I HATE.
@@deadpooldan9862I think your comment just makes the point. Last few seasons, Dean doesn't have anyone, doesn't hook up with women, at least not on screen, or implied. Before, he was always depicted as a guy that always sleeps around with girls but like from seasons 12 or 13 to 15 we don't see that. Sam has Eileen. Dean has Cas. That's pretty much it. So yeah, regardless of what anyone thinks his sexual orientation is, the fact that at least in the last couple of seasons he doesn't have someone (besides Cas) implies that there could've been something. At least in my opinion.
@@rowinchester5952 I get that, but honestly, those last few seasons were the ones where things were happening at a fast rate, so I feel Dean didn’t have time for a romantic relationship. Dean’s not into Cas, if you think he is you’re wrong because he’s said several times he’s not into guys
The saddest part is, if Cas and Dean had just had that real moment of either both just saying they love each other blatantly and at least show Dean feel something after ya know, Cas got dragged to mega Hell, it would have at least felt better, no one was expecting a sex scene, we just wanted some consistency and some pay off to all the obvious baiting. Even if Dean didn't reciprocate, he wouldn't leave his best friend to a fate like that without even a word until Bobby told him he was fine in Heaven. The baiting is so bad and Covid isn't an excuse because there are ways to film it that do not require any more people filming in the same room.
Yeah.. uh... what's the word? amen! this video aged beautifully! and i did kinda die at the hozier part just like everyone else in these comments. And truly, if nothing else the ending of this show sucked me back in to re watch season 4 and 5 to enjoy it for the trash that it is.
Aside from Destiel, Dean's ending was terrible. Dean always believed hunting was what he was meant for and would be something he would love, but at the eod he realised the consequences of hunting and the pain that comes with it because of how much he has lost. He never felt like the world was safe for him or his little brother, but eventually when Kripke was still a part of SPN we saw pieces of Dean wanting a safe space and to just settle, but instead he just dies hunting just as he thought. When kripke was trying to change the whole thing, dean thought his purpose was to hint and protect same and that he would die during a hunting trip, but he would have his happy ending. But ofc dean fucking dies without getting a chance to live a life of peace and quiet away from it all.
dean treated cass like crap more then he gave a crap about him. dean was almost never vulnerable or respectful to cass. dean is a jerk. cass and sam wouldve been more compatible, more warm, trusting, communicative and forgiving like an actual friendship. not some one sided use you when necessary and judge/distrust/let my aggression out on you otherwise way. they shouldve given sam a friend like cass. it wouldve been like a breath of fresh air. deans scenes tend to be claustrophobic because he often snaps on his ''loved ones'' and they die for him over and over.
I think the major shame is just how unintentionally, or intentionally I really don't know anymore, bi Dean's performance is. It's why the strongest gay ships always revolve around him. I mean, certain things never really occur to someone who isn't. Like I had no idea until someone in that community pointed it out to me, but he references things all the time that are well known in the gay community. He mentions a bar well known for guy hookups at one point, and also references opening a bnb in Vermont, which was at the time one of the few states that had legalized gay marriage. This is all stuff that flew past me until I talked to a friend about it. And all of this is precastiel, and then Misha plays Cas as 100% simping for Dean and Dean also has several intense moments with him. Honestly, I'm glad for shows that are actually going there and fulfilling the ship, like Bly Manor and (hopefully) Arcane. Even Eric Kripke's other property The Boys has better more overt lgbtq representation. I have such a mixed relationship with Supernatural. Like I adore the cast, definitely feel like it should have ended with 5, and I feel like its touching story about the brothers really spoke to me with a complicated sibling relationship myself. But this is one thing I really feel sorry about. The fact that the show slipped in so hard to queer baiting.
the writers, cast, producers all say dean is straight. they intended to pander/tease because tumbr was the demographic that was heavily promoting the show. it was either queerbait or get cancelled. it was just business. tumbr is basically immature kids loving gays and media culture jokes so a they turned him into a bi sexual, media culture savvy, walking joke, man baby. it isn't any more attractive then his suffocating toxic masculinity traits. i want to like that he ''slays monsters'' but he usually so hypocritical while doing it. i wish cass wouldve attached himself to literally anyone else.
Well I didn't come here for the world ending finale we got, lol But I did come for writing help and my notes have never looked so detailed and I thank you for that! This was a really good video!
Destiel wouldn't have worked. I can't imagine dean being that in love with a straight woman. Its just so not a part of the character that you have to shoehorn him into that. At that point is it worth it?
I like Dean and Cas as whatever they are,i cant even imagine dean say 'i love you' as a love confession,i can imagine him say i love you like whatever BUT Cass confession was really about loving dean? and they couldnt even tell us if they met up in heaven again? only this a lil reunion or simple words
Me before: omg wincest is the worst thing to exist on earth how can people be so deranged Me after watching house of the Dragon: ...nevermind yall do yall thing 😂
Nice analysis. (said i feeling like delving into details will just bring back emotions inevitably breaking the last shreds of my mental stability) seriously, reviews are the main genre of vids i watch on youtube (not mentioning that i minored in text interpretation, though well i guess i did mention it now), this is quite good (you'd mostly want to criticize the tech drawbacks like a ton of text on screen and rewinding the same footage - but the time constraints are a perfectly good reason for those) and definitely doesn't have enough views. be it on a more well-known channel id expect this to have thousands of views. calling Cass neurodivergent is so odd... and rings so true. we truly dont have enough characters that are just that instead of "ooh, they quirky. quirky quirky tv characters that dont exist in real life". *tired depressed sigh* The SPN potential is immense and will live on. But only as a potential.
Wow! The amount of homophobia, bi-erasure, and displays of all-around ignorance in this comments section makes my chest hurt. No one is "trying to make" these characters gay. The writers of this show absolutely partook in queer baiting, well-past the point where teasing at a character's non-straight identity would've been considered funny. A person's sexuality is not a joke. No one laughs when presented with the idea that Cas loves Dean, or that the two of them are together; they take it as a serious sign that canon validation is - or, at this point was - around the corner. And who could blame them? Bisexuality is valid, and a very believable route they could've taken with Dean. Castiel's confession was undeniably romantic, and anyone who can't see that is clearly either blind, deaf, dumb, or some unfortunate combination of the three. I am not a fan of this show. I have no emotional ties to it whatsoever. Nor do I have any strong feelings about its characters or their relationships. But, I have watched Cas' death scene several times. I simply call things as I see them, and all of this was inexcusable. Ps. To anyone who wants to hit me with this little gem: if Jensen Ackles was so damn uncomfortable with the prospect of his character being canonically queer, he shouldn't have been a fucking actor. A literal requirement of the job is to pretend to be someone you're not in real life.
I hate the destiel thing the whole point on it being castiel that survived instead of the red head angel was that it was all supposed to be platonique for everyone. And i would have it no other way. Now trivial romance makes most of the relationship feel nowhere near as epic as the bure bromance
What you're saying at the beginning, everyone around me and MY best friend thought we were in a lesbian relationship for so long, it doesn't mean anything...OH WAIT, WE HAD SEX, THE FUCKING WRITERS SERIOUSLY HAVE GOT TO KNOW EXACTLY WHAT THEYRE DOING WITH THAT SHIT, SERIOUSLY. AND ITS CONSTANT.
This is a tangent but I’m so glad to find another person with a bone to pick with how good omens is handled Equating genitals (fluidity) with gender (identity fluidity) and giving absolutely no indication your characters aren’t gay men in love whilst benefiting from never confirming they are is not a victory of acespec/gender fluid representation
Nah i don't see it as a two way thing anymore because it's not it's more Castiel loves Dean because whenever it's mentioned to Sam and Dean they both get awkward then ignore it like they're in super denial. Belthazar said "You have me confused with the other angel. You know the one with the dirty trench coat whose in love with you?" to Crowley and Meg always teasing about Castiel being called a toy boy to Dean is Castiel's boyfriend, and Meg said "don't look at me, he was your boyfriend first". One of the last ones was Metatron who said "And now after a rousing speech his true weakness is revealed. He's in love, with humanity" and he has a word with him again about Cas's real goal is wanting to save Dean Winchester lol. Like it's always jokes about being one way that it's how Castiel feels. Any possessiveness from Dean i think it's because of his tendency to form codependent attachments because of his abandonment issues. Plus Castiel isn't male or female and we started to see it straight away from season 4 the lore starting to develop about Angels and not in so many words showing how most are the same but some of them are different, then the scene in season 7 episode 1 when Cas is consumed by the Leviathan's and he walked into the church and he says "Your wrong, i'm utterly indifferent to sexual orientation" so from there they tried to establish some angels are different and Cas is one of them. I always thought it was intentional Cas is different because so is Sam and Dean and they always made shows specifically with characters that are different i mean to defy heaven and do what's different to the other angels and to question like that's different. So i think that's also the clue that Cas is one of the group of angels who don't identify as neither male or female. You've rarely heard any character actually say "he" too it's usually Cas or Castiel sometimes Dean has said "man" though when ending a sentence or "dude" and then from season 10 i think they either forgot Cas is nether sexual orientation or just gave up trying so hard because Sam and Dean say "he" a lot more often. I think that's why they portrayed the "confession" scene the way they did as Castiel saying they love Dean, like they thought they were going to be dead for good so Cas was like "the hell with it i'm going to confess my undying love" they just went with the whole "last night on earth" thing again like how many times have they done that already? lol. However they made it seem far too platonic because it's clear The CW wasn't down with this sort of thing they weren't in their other shows either so they didn't let them get too "gay" about it and it's no surprise with the way our world has been going and the intolerance of anyone who is different. Also i think they just went with what Metatron in season 9 said too the way they did the "confession" scene "And now after a rousing speech his true weakness is revealed" because that's exactly what Castiel did a rousing speech but sadly most of it was about how loving Dean is brushing over Cas's feelings apart from "i know it's something i can never have". They totally just went with the easiest way to end things rather than the best way like all shows were doing for a while and i really hate the cameras they switched to it's so blurry and they're way too close to their faces it's just all felt off since season 11 onwards. The thing is though they took Cas for granted too much because they felt powerful they have an actual angel on their side so Sam and Dean were using Cas and the first time Cas says "Your my family, i love you" the look on Dean's face he felt freaking horrible. It wasn't because Dean somehow loved Cas and it hit some kind of love nerve it's because they were using Castiel just to protect themselves because it's ALL about Sam and Dean and you can't forget that part and how selfish they are lol. Always keeping each other alive no matter who gets hurt or dies just sacrifice themselves at their alter. Castiel is super naive they get less so as the show goes on but before that scene and they all started to get a lot closer they were so totally using Cas, although they still kind of were right until the very end because they still took Cas for granted especially Dean but Castiel still didn't mind because they love Dean so much and they weren't all that bad. I think one of the reasons Dean crumbled like that at the end of the "confession" scene with his hands in his head like that is because they do share a deep bond, but he was totally in denial that Cas was in love with him no matter how many times the other angels told him even if deep down they knew. Because they were too busy using Castiel for their own survival still taking advantage of their naivety, and now i think it finally hit Dean with Cas actually telling him they love him how damn selfish he's been and really he didn't entirely deserve so much unconditional love Castiel has given him and no he doesn't nether does Sam really. It didn't really help Dean with the lack of self worth he has by taking Cas for granted. With how they were brought up and abused by their dad John though it was all such a complicated confusing mess that i don't know if they entirely realized what they were doing like i always feel they know how selfish they're being but on the other hand i feel they're also oblivious they're being so selfish. We can see this with all the things the angels say and Rowena going "oh always the bloody winchesters" and whenever they asked for her help she's reminded them several times she's not going to get herself killed and sacrifice herself for them (although alas they end up making rowena do that anyway) they're also totally oblivious. Which is signs of an abusive upbringing because they kind of take on some of those abusive behaviors like being in denial about things and contradictory behaviors. In terms of character progression they never progressed them too much and never intended to so seeing things completely clear now i just don't read into anything after season 3 now because it's a different show after that and just the same thing we're all surprised it went on for 15 years. So nah they never would've got Cas to confess his love for Dean right until the very end plus i guess it wouldn't make sense to because they practically kept the drama going on Sam and Dean's codependent selfish relationship. After Kripke left and handed Supernatural off after season 5 they were really just milking the show. But i dunno i think now i see it it's quite interesting how they made Sam and Dean so in denial about Cas being in love with Dean and i guess it was different actually being more realistic with it by making them take advantage of Castiel lol although it was sick and i also hate them for being so selfish which frequently gets in my nerves but it's sadly what humans would actually do.
Hey, I am new to the SPN family. I just binged the whole thing in 6 weeks and it broke my mind lol. I just wrote a Supernatural screenplay in about 10 days. It's a Destiel story but not what most people would expect probably. I need a fellow shipper to lay eyes on it. Interested?
You do realise the couple shown at 5:10 were cosplaying as Sam and Dean, not Dean and Cas. It's easy to see what you want to see when you take things out of context.
I really always loved this show and the actors in it but I was drawled to it by the brothers relationship. As my sister and I were very close and she sometimes took care of me like a Mother as Dean took care of Sam as a Parent beside a big brother. After all the years it was on and watching all of them, most many times. (Really some great ones. One example "The French Mistake") I now kinda wish they had ended it after five years as it was suppose to be. Where Dean had a happy life and Sam fulfilled his destiny of battling Michael (Adam) in Hell. Poor Adam. :(
i fin dit disgusting how people wanted a ship so much that they shipped the brothers. blek. like they should've just made y/n fics. at least that's better than making Wincest
I hated the way the writers treated castiel and Dean's relationship there was no closure between dean and castiel in the last two episodes of the series to me Jack was the only one who had a great ending and even though we hear that Jack saves castiel from the empty and he does accept who he loves cutting him from the last two episodes sucked after 11 years 🤯😬😠😡🤬
imo the later seasons are way more interesting! at first I was disappointed w the introduction of angels bc I originally watched for the horror. But pretty quick I liked the added addition and now when I rewatch, I always prefer the later seasons (seasons 10+). I find the much earlier seasons too simple for my taste now 🤣 (compared to the later ones! Spn is like fine wine-- it gets better w age!!)
Fans need to take a step back and remember that it’s a horror show that revolves around two brothers who grew up with nothing to rely on but one another. Their entire sense of self is built around that, and their ongoing traumas, despite their occasional betrayals, only strengthens it. There’s a lot of entitlement between them. They hurt each other so much but also keep each other human. I mean, if you look at how they were raised, it’s a wonder they aren’t psychopaths. We also have to remember that Castiel is an enormously powerful supernatural being, and there is a huge power imbalance. His threats to throw Dean back into hell and that beating in the alley are disturbing. His constant statements of how he does things for Dean, in the early seasons, come across to me as manipulative. Quid pro quo. I did it all for you, but you let me down. I see them all as brothers in arms. They’ve been through nightmares together. It’s a show about monsters that taught that it’s not what you are, it’s what you do, and in the end, they all proved they aren’t monsters.
hunters are revenge driven psychopaths. serial killers. look at the most of the so called monsters. most are only feeding, protecting their families and multiplying. sam and dean go out of their way to kill because they enjoy it. yellow eyes said you think youre the only one who has a family. you should consider what all characters say about them, not just their friends who jerk them off. dean was always the cruel manipulative judgmental aggressive bulling shoot first ask questions later type. i loved that dean met a being he couldnt get the upper hand on. otherwise the bros are extremely over powered. talk about power imbalance lmfao. it was the only time i really respected and loved cass. when he became deans lap dog, it was unbearable. it teaches us we dont have to grow, to be more bearable human beings. that we can be a jerk who never learns from his mistakes. that we can hit our siblings and never expect them to hit back or walk away, seeking their own agency. it taught us to be a fan favorite and you will have all the friends even though being unforgiving, self righteous, distrusting, non communicative and aggressive doesn't foster good relationships. they many have been through a nightmare but the rest of the time they are the nightmare. like crowly said nightmares in denim.
It's canon that Cas was in love with Dean, the way he says "I love you" to him has nothing to do with the way Charlie says it to him, for example (and he responds "I know", like Han Solo). But it's also canon that Dean doesn't love him back, which is why Cas says that "I thought I'd never be happy because I can't have what I want," because he knows that Dean loves him, but as a brother, he doesn't romanticize. And nothing happens. This isn't Disney, it doesn't have to have a happy ending. Sometimes the people you love don't love you back.
@@julias.7534 Oh definitely, they weren’t advocating for it they were just pointing out that we only talk about hetero guys creeping on gay women when the same might be true for hetero women to gay men.
So it might be a sort of accident that Cas ended up very different from other angels lmao
the question is,did he met dean in heaven again?
Happy accident lol
yup@@elenabaek3004
But then everybody loved Castiel too much and he ended up saving the show lol so the story of Cas is what it is now.
"So he remains as he is: a self-hating, deeply repressed man. One who, even after all these years, still longs for a distant past where he was still able to convince himself that if he did this or that right - if Sammy stayed safe and sound and happy - he'd finally get everything he always wanted..."
This stings so hard after watching the finale and seeing that the writers thought that a fitting conclusion to Dean's arc would be to keep Sammy safe and sound and happy just like his father always wanted him to. That his perfect reward would be to finally die (because he's life isn't worth anything else). That his perfect heaven for him would be to live down the block from the toxic abusive father who ruined him so that maybe daddy could finally tell lil dean that his proud of him and how he fulfilled his purpose just like the blunt instrument dear dad always raised him to be.
that made me cry :(
Right?!
And the people are like "that ending is perfect, you're just bitter!"
Yeah.....it sucked so bad.
the worst part for me it was cass death, they didnt met up in heaven again? he only helped built deans heaven? and then?
"Could have had Hozier and instead, we got Yakkity-Sacks " is the realest shit ever said about Destiel.
There wasnt any love story. It was all in fans minds.People should be grateful they played with it and gave them a little bit of content for fanfics.
''what we couldve had'' vs ''what we got'' is so spot on and literally nothing else needs to be said about the finale.
It is the greatest love story in the history with a middle finger to us in the end 🙂🙂
@@mariaah3073 REAL
Somebody said nobody who was introduced after season 4 was mentioned.
@@ultravioletpisces3666 Well Ill tell you what FUCKING SUCKS
Because what we got was good enough of an ending with COVID restrictions
They could’ve had Dean finally be okay with himself after death, then finds out Cas feared Dean’s reaction. So it could’ve happened after their ‘deaths’
But see that's not satisfying. We want him to be ok "in life" not in death.
@@ultravioletpisces3666 I would want that too, except seeing an old Dean when we compare it to old Sam scares me. Sometimes we can’t have everything, and not seeing old Dean is sort of a win compared to what could’ve happened.

I am nuerodivergent (specifcally high functioning autism and ADHD) with bad anxiety. I related to Cas in the earlier seasons a lot. He's definitely on the spectrum of nuerodivergency.
I agree! I’m autistic and have always seen myself in him. 💙
i hate the fact that everyone blames jensen and misha for the poor writing choices that supernatural made. i'm sure misha and jensen would've been perfectly fine with dean and cas being in a relationship, being that they said the scripts were made for dean and cas to be flirty, but i constantly see them getting bashed on twitter for destiel not reaching its full potential, and it's honestly so upsetting.
I'll admit, that was short-sighted of me. This was made really lost in the sauce of 15.18, before we knew why Jensen hated the finale so much and that there were over 5 minutes from the scene cut, but it's really not an excuse to bully these actors.
so agree, and jensen dont like the ending

One of my favorite Dean moments from the later seasons happens in S9 when Dean goes to a church and makes a confession, “There are things, there are…people, feelings that I want to experience differently than I have before…Or, maybe even for the first time,”
I think Supernatural could have done a lot more with its 15 seasons if it structured itself differently.
Jensen might have internalized homophobia.
i always related to cas because of how he fits into humanity, and interacts with humans.
A goddamn shame...
yes! cass sacrifided so many times for them,he died for dean and in the end they couldnt let us know that they met up in heaven again?
You think Dean would not care about Sam? You really don’t know Dean Winchester if you think he should do that
@@fortuneisyours someone clearly never watched the show.

And then Jack saved him from the empty ig so ... Thanks Jack? Dean at least seemed ... Incrementally happy that he's not stuck in megahell, although I'd only really believe this if I saw a scene where they didn't mention Cas at all. Like, would he act like Cas ever existed?

- living pocket watch??????? I'm CACKLING. But yes I agree, Neil would have liked to live in a world where we can freely discuss our seperate interpretations of the relationship, however, we live in a world where some people have to clamour for actual tangible representation so ..no, not yet
- no, always be anticapitalist on main
- I wonder how much Misha's portrayal of Castiel as atypical kinda stemmed from how he thought angels would be from our perspective. Like, was there a discussion of if all the angel actors would do this? Bc I can't see another reason for him to decide on this portrayal and not realise the consequence
- basically I just agree overall, this plot just about wrote itself just from the concept of these two characters coming together and letting each other heal and grow.
But anyway, more power to the wincest people I guess, good on you lot
And yes I am rambling essentially to myself but I have Opinions™ and making a video like this myself seems exhausting.
@@a.3032 nice point of view, but did they really met in heaven again? he only helped built deans heaven, and then? did they saw each other?

Excellent comment, and excellent comparison with Matt Rife
They were friends with Kevin (although that was more like an older brothers type thing I guess)
They just refused to make Destiel a thing and also refused to give us more Sam and Cas being friends moments which I HATE.
Loving the idea of Cas being atypical

Amazing analysis I especially loved the delving into cas’s chsrsctsr

Destiel wouldn't have worked. I can't imagine dean being that in love with a straight woman. Its just so not a part of the character that you have to shoehorn him into that. At that point is it worth it?
I like Dean and Cas as whatever they are,i cant even imagine dean say 'i love you' as a love confession,i can imagine him say i love you like whatever BUT
Cass confession was really about loving dean? and they couldnt even tell us if they met up in heaven again? only this a lil reunion or simple words

Nice analysis. (said i feeling like delving into details will just bring back emotions inevitably breaking the last shreds of my mental stability)
seriously, reviews are the main genre of vids i watch on youtube (not mentioning that i minored in text interpretation, though well i guess i did mention it now), this is quite good (you'd mostly want to criticize the tech drawbacks like a ton of text on screen and rewinding the same footage - but the time constraints are a perfectly good reason for those) and definitely doesn't have enough views. be it on a more well-known channel id expect this to have thousands of views.
calling Cass neurodivergent is so odd... and rings so true. we truly dont have enough characters that are just that instead of "ooh, they quirky. quirky quirky tv characters that dont exist in real life".
*tired depressed sigh* The SPN potential is immense and will live on. But only as a potential.

So much for "vague". Loved it! ❤️
Great video I wish you and your channel nothing but the best 😊😊
11:50 I feel your pain
I love the show and everything about it
The two episode after 15x18 had nothing to do with Destiel, so this video isn't outdated.
The season 8 scene you showed was originally supposed to be a Dean Confession of I Love you not I Need you.
I hate the destiel thing the whole point on it being castiel that survived instead of the red head angel was that it was all supposed to be platonique for everyone.
And i would have it no other way.
Now trivial romance makes most of the relationship feel nowhere near as epic as the bure bromance
7:02 *sweats, looks at the Season 2 announcement*
I'm glad destiel didn't happened
What you're saying at the beginning, everyone around me and MY best friend thought we were in a lesbian relationship for so long, it doesn't mean anything...OH WAIT, WE HAD SEX, THE FUCKING WRITERS SERIOUSLY HAVE GOT TO KNOW EXACTLY WHAT THEYRE DOING WITH THAT SHIT, SERIOUSLY. AND ITS CONSTANT.
This is a tangent but I’m so glad to find another person with a bone to pick with how good omens is handled
Equating genitals (fluidity) with gender (identity fluidity) and giving absolutely no indication your characters aren’t gay men in love whilst benefiting from never confirming they are is not a victory of acespec/gender fluid representation
THERE'S AN ANIME SERIES!? :O oh dang i must live under a rock.. x-x;;;
You say the ship could've been great while showing dean stab cas is awfully perfect

I really always loved this show and the actors in it but I was drawled to it by the brothers relationship. Please let it rest

ophelia i dig your opinions. see what i did there?
I'm not gay but as heterosexual guys like 2 women together, some heterosexual women like 2 men together (the Hotter looking the better)
