It's really sad that folks are so terrified of two men being in love and happy, because they CLEARLY are. Ackles and Collins have unbelievable chemistry, and you can tell there's a great deal of camaraderie and trust between them, so they absolutely could have pulled it off. And it would have been beautiful. That would have been the ultimate "win" for Dean and Cas: finding the love and happiness they deserve, and basically denying Chuck his tragic ending.
You are so right it also would have been historic as well so far we have had only one bi sexual male lead in a series that series is called torchwood and then there's emmerdale that show did have a male bi sexual character a few years ago I really enjoyed the storyline with the character of Robert sugden I really enjoyed it it's a British daytime series 🥰😍❤😊🤗 so far we only have had female bi sexuals on tv I would really would love to see more male bi sexual characters

I find it more weird if dean didn't make the mixtape especially for cas for lots of reasons: first, the mixtape looks new, the writing on it is new, not like the old mixtapes that dean had in baby in 1x01, the tape's conditions are excellent. Second: if dean made that tape for himself why would he write *Dean's* top 13 led zeppelin tra xx ? Why would he need to write his name on it for himself to know that it's from him, why not "my top 13 led zeppelin tra xx" or just " top 13 led zeppelin tra xx". Third: the way he wrote tra xx with two xx like kisses 🥺. The way it's shot like like it's important, the fact that led zeppelin's songs were what made mary & john bond & fall in love, it's just too much. Last, it makes u think of when dean gave cas the mixtape the first time, how did it go, what did he say, it must have been an intimate moment, which makes u think of all the moments they have together that we don't get to see. I knew abt the market research but it still pains me that the only things that were standing in the way of destiel were money & h0m0phobia 😭, we could've had it all.
the thought of how many more relaxed, casual, fun moments the characters must have had "outside of the screentime" frustrates me so much in this series. they even brush off important story moments SO MUCH, just cut it and then continue somewhere else in time, sometimes having a flashback later or a time jump or whatever, but sometimes we only get someone mentioning it in passing -- and sometimes it seems like we dont get anything at all. there are so many blanks left to fill, which can also be nice, but here i often feel like they were just too cheap or too afraid or didnt know how to handle a situation and how to play it through so they just jumpcut -_-
The thing I love about this channel is the fact that you have knowledge of the TV industry. I really appreciate the context surrounding the market research. I’d heard about that before but didn’t completely understand the implications until now and that Really changes my perspective on the Dabb/Singer seasons.
I.... why is it this season I have the hardest time writing a comment about.... Maybe it's because, as said in video, even though it's not said outright, it's clearly 100% there now at this point. This season... the first half genuinely felt like a couple trying to navigate life in a time of crisis.... And then Cas felt pain at the creation of their future child.... and then it shifted... two a couple arguing over if they should take in an orphan.... and then... well 'and then'....
Agreed 100%! This kills me. I really thought after that season, we could all still debate whether Dean loved Cas back, but I thought "Cas loves Dean" would be undeniably crystal clear. >_< apparently not

I KNEW IT! ok...maybe not. But it makes so much sense looking back on this whole season it definitely felt less and less like subtext and more like build up. To know they actually did research, to know that they were considering making Destiel cannon..well, it just it would have been the perfect time for it to happen. And I don't say that just because I know that now, I say it because of the whole tone behind everything NOT knowing what I do now. I think they DO seem way more comfortable around each other as far as closeness and intimacy goes. They hug a lot more, touch a lot more, Dean is giving him gifts and indirectly begging him to take up residence in the bunker. Not only does this suggest he views him as family, but it could be his way of asking for what he really wants. Dean isn't good with all that, and if he had feelings at any time during this season, all these interactions-especially the mixtape, could be a way of trying to get his attention or to mention what he feels he can't. The way they interact with each other when Dean isn't beating down on him too hard it does seem too coupley for it to be just a couple of bantering friends. and even though it's been said a thousand times already, it is way to parallel with a newly married couple. I know, because I've got a newly married sister who's always with her husband. And they have the same damn patterns. A few arguments easily recoverable from, playful bantering, always wanting to be around each other, heightened worry or concern-I mean it's all there in this single season. It would have been the perfect opportunity to slip it in there( preferably during the mixtape scene-I think that was a missed opportunity). ---Not that I didn't think 15x18 was good in its own right, and I applaud them for having the courage to do what they did..I still wished it had been during this season, when making that transition from friend/brother to being in a relationship would have been so easy and effortless. P.s. I see what you did there and I absolutely agree with that heartbreaking parallel and now I know they probably deliberately meant it that way. And if they didn't, they just fueled the Destiel fire. Thanks for ripping my heart out by putting them side by side. 👍🏻👍🏻
Love the video! 11:28 actually, I'm pretty sure in season 7 when Cas was crazy after taking Sam's memories, he off-handedly said to Sam and Dean "I love you guys" and hugged them. It didn't really mean anything because it was so offhanded, and it was crazy Cas, but technically he did say it another time.

I agree with your points about the mixtape, there is no way to know for certain how it went down and the exact intentions, but what I do feel very strongly is that even IF Dean had made this specifically for Cas, there is NO WAY that repressed bastard would ever actually write Cas´ name on the tape. He would totally play it off as something casual, even if it wasn´t.

Like, if it had been deemed that Destiel wouldn't negatively affect profits, it sounds like it might have happened. The market research problem sucks. There's clearly a selection bias, not necessarily deliberately, but maybe inherent in the process/means of selecting participants. Thank you for explaining why *so many* of the clips people cite are from s12.
So, I know it’s kind of an unpopular opinion but I actually think season 12 gets a little too much hate compared to others. The way Dean struggles in certain episodes, genuinely made me cry a bit for him in ways I hadn’t done in a couple years (Regarding Dean, The Raid, Who We Are). The naturalness that just exists in this season is wild to witness. This is where too many writing parallels went from “arguably accidental” to completely undeniable for me. Stuck in the Middle with You is probably one of my favorite episodes of the season. Overall, I like the filming of most of the episodes, even if the narrative is rough around the Brits. I do appreciate your full process analysis of the mixtape. The narrative does seem to mention Mary and John in episode one to remind the audience of that, for when the tape pops up to drive people crazy with questions. And finally, the parallel in the finale was BEYOND nuts for me to see.

Can I just point out one little thing that I think about sometimes. Yknow when Sam and Dean are trapped in tiny cells for months completely alone and literally make a deal with a reaper to get them out? And yknow how defeated and absolutely broken Cas looks alone in the bunker? You ever think about the fact….that Dean probably prayed to Cas? He has no idea where he is, no information that would help someone find him, AND, angels can’t “pray back.” It’s possible he prayed a lot, knowing this, just to feel like he was talking to someone. That just….aaaaaa
@ yes😭 Especially given how he responds every time a character tells him they’ve been praying to him, or praying every night. Ugh, it must be rough being an angel. Imagine how it feels to hear only specifically the voices of the people he cares about (because that’s who prays to him)when they’re in trouble or just miss him, and most of the time he has no way to so much as reply. I know he’s not real but it makes me so sad!!
Still loving your videos! I do agree that not enough info was given about the making of that mixtape that you can go, “yes, that was 100% intended to be a romantic gesture from Dean,” but if that episode’s writer was NOT aware of how it could be interpreted like that, I’ll eat my hat. Regarding your market research thoughts, they were really interesting to hear, but where did you get your info on that research market stuff? Making a citation or linking a source for it would help those of us who are curious about behind-the-scenes stuff like that but don’t know where to go to look it up. Also, some discussions I’ve had with other fans about the market research have had some of these fans say that it’s possible that the market research wasn’t entirely about Destiel but was mostly about a wide range of SPN stuff and structured in a way that you’d only get vague questions about Dean and Cas or see these questions only if you answered previous ones in a certain way and also that they might not actually have needed approval from everyone involved to do the market research, just general support from the showrunner and some producers. Take all this with a grain of salt, as these fans probably don’t work in the industry, but it IS fully possible that the market research thing is more complicated than just “all actors and writers wanted to make Destiel happen, so they did research specifically to see if they could make it happen and got told no.” Also also, I’m still laughing over your perfect descriptions of Sam having to put up with Dean and Cas’s crap.
This makes me angry. Not the video, the market research thing (which I didn't know about until now). The fact the writers/showrunners acknowledged the Destiel ship and didn't go through with it because they didn't get enough of a positive response - p*sses me off. So. Much. This is why they backed off so hard once Jack was in the show (the writers basically used Jack as a way to keep Dean and Cas apart without cutting Castiel out of the show). This is why the whole show just got a lot less worth watching overall, as far as I'm concerned, from season 13 onward. I still watched it, but mostly because it was there and not because I was excited to see new episodes; I had fond memories of the older seasons and needed something to watch when I was feeling lazy and there was nothing else of interest available. Before season 13, I was eagerly awaiting new episodes each week, but I'd completely forgotten about the show by the time season 15 rolled around - the only reason I even watched it was because I did a search for tv shows airing at the time and it popped up (I hadn't even known - or cared - they'd been renewed for a 15th season). I needed shows to watch so I did, but honestly, with all the annoyance I feel over the love confession and the lack of follow-through and that pathetic flop of a final episode, I think I would have been happier if I'd never bothered. [End of rant] Otherwise, good video 👍. I liked this season a lot - it's one of my favourites.
So true.. they actually made Castiel into a 2D not important character in the final season. Coz he was always the third main lead for so long and the only reason for me to keep watching this series was Castiel. But, I'm heartbroken and not satisfied with the ending...
The other reason why I hated season 12 was because of the fact they brought mary back but also this is the season of retconned storylines they killed off crowley in this ridiculous way and also one of my biggest problems through out the series is the way the female characters are treated like in one episode when Lucifer is being played by Rick Springfield he tells a woman to carve into her skin and a few episodes later he's inside the body of the president he then sleeps with this woman deliberately gets her pregnant without her consent or knowledge knowing that it could and will kill her to me that's rape because Kelly thought she was sleeping with the president she gave her consent to him not Lucifer to me that's disgusting don't know about you but it's messed up and very triggering to me 😤🤯😠😡🤬🤢🤮
My head canon remains they were hooking up before this but around this point they were a couple and everyone knew and just didn't say it. By that I mean, the writers and the characters. And I get why they couldn't do it. If you enter any fan space primarily populated by straight men, they will insist that everyone is imagining destiel and Dean and Cas are buddies. They will then wax on about how not everything is gay..blah blah. Those viewers mattered enough to the existence of the show that they decided to just let it stay in subtext. I appreciate the position they were in and that they even went as far as they did.
Exactly. One of the reasons why, unlike a lot of Destiel fans, I don't hate on Cas' death scene. They were trying to do something for us but due to their position-as they had been for most of the shows run, they couldn't go too obvious. I'm even sure that even if the people that insisted that Destiel didn't exist, or the people who had problems against homosexuality, did view Cas' actions and words as queer it wouldn't have been as big a deal it being somewhat unrequited. As long as the show didn't have them both reciprocate and develop a clear cut and try gay relationship, it would keep everyone from descending into madness.

The show painted itself into a corner with two sets of fans, or three sets if you count those who think Cas was in love with Dean but not vice versa, and they were all watching different shows. And many straight men get really angry when anyone points out their interpretation isn't the only one. Really angry. I also think there's value in letting things be open to interpretation because fans' bringing their imagination to it because then they fill in the blanks where they want and that's often better than what writers can come up with. I think the world has changed and many straight men can accept queer love stories (see the popularity of Schitt's Creek and Shameless among straight men) but I don't think they are ready to see a character/relationship they perceive as straight not be.

agh one of the things i dont like about supernatural is how some of these scenes are shot - like the end scene. WHY is cas IMMEDIATELY behind the winchesters coming through the portal when he was going the opposite direction to fight lucifer? why do the winchesters awkwardly stand to the side not moving and looking shocked as mary pushes lucifer back through the portal? it just feels like there arw some small changes on filming day that could have been made to add more emotion to the scene (maybe a shot of lucifers eyes glowing and raising his hand, like hes shooting cas back through the portal with a mortal wound. then dean/sam could have crouched down to check if cas was alive) honestly id love to hear your opinions about the different types of shots in supernatural and how, in the perfect world, you would have improved scenes! another great video, thank you
I know folks have told you about Patreon, but honestly between Patreon and Ko-Fi, I prefer Ko-Fi personally. Admittedly, I'm primarily a writer so finding patrons to support my writing is harder. Ko-Fi is nice because supporters can choose between monthly subscriptions or a simple one-time donation and they have a nice system to request commissions (neither of which are options on Patreon). Anyway, just my 2-cents on that. Now I know why season 12 had so many fantastic Destiel moments (thanks for the market research info!).
I watched this video yesterday before falling asleep, right now I’m rewatching the whole show because I thought I didn’t see the first seasons, turn out I did but forgot about them. I just started the fourth season so I’m excited to see if I’ll be more, how to say, realistic about Dean and Cas relationship knowing that I find this show bad (like for real I love it but I find it bad and I don’t know if I’ll be able to finish it) and thinking that I was naive 10 years ago to imagine that they’d take seriously the relationship between Dean and Cas. I don’t know when I stopped to watch spn but I didn’t see the season you are talking about in this vid and my mind was blown away at the end of it like, I just woke up and I’m still shook over the fact that they did market research, like for real??!!! I read somewhere that after one of the later seasons Supernatural was renewed pretty much indefinitely (heard in the context of "they ended it on purpose with season 15 and still ended it like that")... would that conflict or coexist with the market research?
They on purpose didn't even commit to Sam's wife being Eileen / not eileen (they made her blurry on purpose not because of covid) so they didn't have the stones to commit to ANYTHING relationship wise. They really tried to be complete people-pleasers and as non-commital as possible on all romantic fronts in the last hour. It's an absolute wonder they let Cas say anything at all.

It wasn't explicit. But two fans who were a part of the market described the questions pertaining to Dean's sexual identity, and part of the study involved watching 30 second clips between Cas and Dean and describing what emotions they thought were being portrayed. And so on.

whats funny about the market research aspect is they forgot about the unknown scathes of gays dying for anything this meaningful to organically appear. it would have been watched and rewatched a lot and be more of a cult gay classic if dean was closeted bisexual. there were moments later where they could have held the main audiences hand a bit showing more overtly that dean has chosen to not act on being bi up until this point but does have complex feelings for men in his life throughout his life.
Personally I think the mixtape Dean gifted Cas for no particular occasion. Maybe they were in the car and they happened to listen to a Led Zeppelin song and Cas liked so Dean decided to give the mixtape to him. Dean surely had the mixtape already because some episodes later Sam and Rowena are left alone in the car and she asks for music and Sam says that Dean has a Zeppelin mixtape and looks for it but can't find it

I never really thought about all the destiel stuff in this season, it just blended in nicely with everything else. Imagine if it had ended here, with the portal closing behind Cas and Dean quitting hunting to raise a baby/messiah with him. Sam could have built on his leader thing to build a proper hunter/men of letters operation with Mary, it would have been great. (I need a fanfiction of this. Is there a fanfiction of this?)

I don't understand as Castiel is a celestial being and asexual how he is seen 'coupled' with Dean, and understanding that love with an asexual being wearing a male meat suit is not disturbing to him. Given that throughout he has been with women and as near as dammit his relationships of note have been with Lisa and Jo. What am I missing something here? Could it be that they are just good close male friends, afterall Dean has no one other than Sam - you don't see anyone else but Cas. Benny though a vampire was a contemporary. I mean asexual people are in relationships all the time. And Dean is repeatedly shown to be bi-curious so it isn't a stretch to believe he has repressed bi-sexual desires. But the show was left up to everyone's interpretation.

I find it more weird if dean didn't make the mixtape especially for cas for lots of reasons: first, the mixtape looks new, the writing on it is new, not like the old mixtapes that dean had in baby in 1x01, the tape's conditions are excellent.
Second: if dean made that tape for himself why would he write *Dean's* top 13 led zeppelin tra xx ? Why would he need to write his name on it for himself to know that it's from him, why not "my top 13 led zeppelin tra xx" or just " top 13 led zeppelin tra xx".
Third: the way he wrote tra xx with two xx like kisses 🥺. The way it's shot like like it's important, the fact that led zeppelin's songs were what made mary & john bond & fall in love, it's just too much.
Last, it makes u think of when dean gave cas the mixtape the first time, how did it go, what did he say, it must have been an intimate moment, which makes u think of all the moments they have together that we don't get to see.
I knew abt the market research but it still pains me that the only things that were standing in the way of destiel were money & h0m0phobia 😭, we could've had it all.
the thought of how many more relaxed, casual, fun moments the characters must have had "outside of the screentime" frustrates me so much in this series. they even brush off important story moments SO MUCH, just cut it and then continue somewhere else in time, sometimes having a flashback later or a time jump or whatever, but sometimes we only get someone mentioning it in passing -- and sometimes it seems like we dont get anything at all. there are so many blanks left to fill, which can also be nice, but here i often feel like they were just too cheap or too afraid or didnt know how to handle a situation and how to play it through so they just jumpcut -_-

I KNEW IT! ok...maybe not. But it makes so much sense looking back on this whole season it definitely felt less and less like subtext and more like build up. To know they actually did research, to know that they were considering making Destiel cannon..well, it just it would have been the perfect time for it to happen. And I don't say that just because I know that now, I say it because of the whole tone behind everything NOT knowing what I do now.
I think they DO seem way more comfortable around each other as far as closeness and intimacy goes. They hug a lot more, touch a lot more, Dean is giving him gifts and indirectly begging him to take up residence in the bunker. Not only does this suggest he views him as family, but it could be his way of asking for what he really wants. Dean isn't good with all that, and if he had feelings at any time during this season, all these interactions-especially the mixtape, could be a way of trying to get his attention or to mention what he feels he can't.
The way they interact with each other when Dean isn't beating down on him too hard it does seem too coupley for it to be just a couple of bantering friends. and even though it's been said a thousand times already, it is way to parallel with a newly married couple. I know, because I've got a newly married sister who's always with her husband. And they have the same damn patterns. A few arguments easily recoverable from, playful bantering, always wanting to be around each other, heightened worry or concern-I mean it's all there in this single season. It would have been the perfect opportunity to slip it in there( preferably during the mixtape scene-I think that was a missed opportunity).
---Not that I didn't think 15x18 was good in its own right, and I applaud them for having the courage to do what they did..I still wished it had been during this season, when making that transition from friend/brother to being in a relationship would have been so easy and effortless.
P.s. I see what you did there and I absolutely agree with that heartbreaking parallel and now I know they probably deliberately meant it that way. And if they didn't, they just fueled the Destiel fire. Thanks for ripping my heart out by putting them side by side. 👍🏻👍🏻

So, I know it’s kind of an unpopular opinion but I actually think season 12 gets a little too much hate compared to others. The way Dean struggles in certain episodes, genuinely made me cry a bit for him in ways I hadn’t done in a couple years (Regarding Dean, The Raid, Who We Are). The naturalness that just exists in this season is wild to witness. This is where too many writing parallels went from “arguably accidental” to completely undeniable for me. Stuck in the Middle with You is probably one of my favorite episodes of the season. Overall, I like the filming of most of the episodes, even if the narrative is rough around the Brits. I do appreciate your full process analysis of the mixtape. The narrative does seem to mention Mary and John in episode one to remind the audience of that, for when the tape pops up to drive people crazy with questions. And finally, the parallel in the finale was BEYOND nuts for me to see.

Can I just point out one little thing that I think about sometimes. Yknow when Sam and Dean are trapped in tiny cells for months completely alone and literally make a deal with a reaper to get them out? And yknow how defeated and absolutely broken Cas looks alone in the bunker? You ever think about the fact….that Dean probably prayed to Cas? He has no idea where he is, no information that would help someone find him, AND, angels can’t “pray back.” It’s possible he prayed a lot, knowing this, just to feel like he was talking to someone. That just….aaaaaa

@ yes😭 Especially given how he responds every time a character tells him they’ve been praying to him, or praying every night. Ugh, it must be rough being an angel. Imagine how it feels to hear only specifically the voices of the people he cares about (because that’s who prays to him)when they’re in trouble or just miss him, and most of the time he has no way to so much as reply. I know he’s not real but it makes me so sad!!

Regarding your market research thoughts, they were really interesting to hear, but where did you get your info on that research market stuff? Making a citation or linking a source for it would help those of us who are curious about behind-the-scenes stuff like that but don’t know where to go to look it up.
Also, some discussions I’ve had with other fans about the market research have had some of these fans say that it’s possible that the market research wasn’t entirely about Destiel but was mostly about a wide range of SPN stuff and structured in a way that you’d only get vague questions about Dean and Cas or see these questions only if you answered previous ones in a certain way and also that they might not actually have needed approval from everyone involved to do the market research, just general support from the showrunner and some producers. Take all this with a grain of salt, as these fans probably don’t work in the industry, but it IS fully possible that the market research thing is more complicated than just “all actors and writers wanted to make Destiel happen, so they did research specifically to see if they could make it happen and got told no.”
Also also, I’m still laughing over your perfect descriptions of Sam having to put up with Dean and Cas’s crap.

This makes me angry. Not the video, the market research thing (which I didn't know about until now). The fact the writers/showrunners acknowledged the Destiel ship and didn't go through with it because they didn't get enough of a positive response - p*sses me off. So. Much. This is why they backed off so hard once Jack was in the show (the writers basically used Jack as a way to keep Dean and Cas apart without cutting Castiel out of the show). This is why the whole show just got a lot less worth watching overall, as far as I'm concerned, from season 13 onward. I still watched it, but mostly because it was there and not because I was excited to see new episodes; I had fond memories of the older seasons and needed something to watch when I was feeling lazy and there was nothing else of interest available. Before season 13, I was eagerly awaiting new episodes each week, but I'd completely forgotten about the show by the time season 15 rolled around - the only reason I even watched it was because I did a search for tv shows airing at the time and it popped up (I hadn't even known - or cared - they'd been renewed for a 15th season). I needed shows to watch so I did, but honestly, with all the annoyance I feel over the love confession and the lack of follow-through and that pathetic flop of a final episode, I think I would have been happier if I'd never bothered.

My head canon remains they were hooking up before this but around this point they were a couple and everyone knew and just didn't say it. By that I mean, the writers and the characters. And I get why they couldn't do it. If you enter any fan space primarily populated by straight men, they will insist that everyone is imagining destiel and Dean and Cas are buddies. They will then wax on about how not everything is gay..blah blah. Those viewers mattered enough to the existence of the show that they decided to just let it stay in subtext. I appreciate the position they were in and that they even went as far as they did.
Exactly. One of the reasons why, unlike a lot of Destiel fans, I don't hate on Cas' death scene. They were trying to do something for us but due to their position-as they had been for most of the shows run, they couldn't go too obvious. I'm even sure that even if the people that insisted that Destiel didn't exist, or the people who had problems against homosexuality, did view Cas' actions and words as queer it wouldn't have been as big a deal it being somewhat unrequited. As long as the show didn't have them both reciprocate and develop a clear cut and try gay relationship, it would keep everyone from descending into madness.
@@dylancole1910 No, I won't hate on them for trying, and I can even interpret that scene as Dean being in shock about the whole situation, not that he is shocked that Cas is in love with him which in my head he would have known. The show painted itself into a corner with two sets of fans, or three sets if you count those who think Cas was in love with Dean but not vice versa, and they were all watching different shows. And many straight men get really angry when anyone points out their interpretation isn't the only one. Really angry. I also think there's value in letting things be open to interpretation because fans' bringing their imagination to it because then they fill in the blanks where they want and that's often better than what writers can come up with. I think the world has changed and many straight men can accept queer love stories (see the popularity of Schitt's Creek and Shameless among straight men) but I don't think they are ready to see a character/relationship they perceive as straight not be.
I really have to continue re-watching these last seasons to see it that way

agh one of the things i dont like about supernatural is how some of these scenes are shot - like the end scene. WHY is cas IMMEDIATELY behind the winchesters coming through the portal when he was going the opposite direction to fight lucifer? why do the winchesters awkwardly stand to the side not moving and looking shocked as mary pushes lucifer back through the portal? it just feels like there arw some small changes on filming day that could have been made to add more emotion to the scene (maybe a shot of lucifers eyes glowing and raising his hand, like hes shooting cas back through the portal with a mortal wound. then dean/sam could have crouched down to check if cas was alive)

I read somewhere that after one of the later seasons Supernatural was renewed pretty much indefinitely (heard in the context of "they ended it on purpose with season 15 and still ended it like that")... would that conflict or coexist with the market research?
They on purpose didn't even commit to Sam's wife being Eileen / not eileen (they made her blurry on purpose not because of covid) so they didn't have the stones to commit to ANYTHING relationship wise. They really tried to be complete people-pleasers and as non-commital as possible on all romantic fronts in the last hour.
It's an absolute wonder they let Cas say anything at all.

whats funny about the market research aspect is they forgot about the unknown scathes of gays dying for anything this meaningful to organically appear. it would have been watched and rewatched a lot and be more of a cult gay classic if dean was closeted bisexual. there were moments later where they could have held the main audiences hand a bit showing more overtly that dean has chosen to not act on being bi up until this point but does have complex feelings for men in his life throughout his life.
Personally I think the mixtape Dean gifted Cas for no particular occasion. Maybe they were in the car and they happened to listen to a Led Zeppelin song and Cas liked so Dean decided to give the mixtape to him.

They wanted us to know. Why led zeplin? Why zoom in on the name? Why not have Cas come in and try to talk it out? It wouldn't have been ooc for him. That whole scene could've been cut. WHY SHOW IT??!! It does my head in. One thing that's for sure, mixtapes are synonymous with romantic feelings on TV. I hear someone gift a mixtape, I think they're trying to court said recipient. Maybe we put too much romantic thought in the gesture but again I ask, why show that, zoom on it, say it's what Dean's parents bonded on, and then have Dean give it to Cas? Why not another band? WHY ZOOM IN??!!

I don't understand as Castiel is a celestial being and asexual how he is seen 'coupled' with Dean, and understanding that love with an asexual being wearing a male meat suit is not disturbing to him. Given that throughout he has been with women and as near as dammit his relationships of note have been with Lisa and Jo. What am I missing something here?
Could it be that they are just good close male friends, afterall Dean has no one other than Sam - you don't see anyone else but Cas. Benny though a vampire was a contemporary. A fellow warrior in Purgatory! Castiel as an angel was a soldier. But then I maybe wrong!
I mean asexual people are in relationships all the time. And Dean is repeatedly shown to be bi-curious so it isn't a stretch to believe he has repressed bi-sexual desires.
But the show was left up to everyone's interpretation.
@@BobWessSPN I agree on that point, but they certainly playing with people's feelings as there are those who identify strongly with the characters and what they are going through!
