I'm gonna want to fix this some day, better park it under a tree uncovered for a few years just to make sure it requires the most amount of fixing possible.
People can do what ever they want with there machines.
@@jerrywilcox9890 you're right, they can. The problem is these Neanderthals also misrepresent their garbage on craigslist and marketplace.
Sometimes that works out for people like me that have the tools I don't.
As long as the frame is still intact I could something with it but it might not look the same in the end haha.
@@jerrywilcox9890
Then whines when they get the repair bill😅
Vin was not excited😅 the only part I caught was he said" I told you not to bring no more damn poolaris home"🤣
Lol yup Polaris has always been junk!
American made garbage. Stick to Japanese for atv and snowmobiles
I like the systematic step by step way you work through the problems, and take us with you. A lot of youtube "repair channels" kind of do the "look its fixed", after waisting an hour of the viewers time telling stupid stories about their grampa or something.
The Polaris "engineer" who so "carefully" designed this should be condemned to change the spark plug and refit the bodywork and tank 10x per day for 12 months.
Back then there were no engineers at Polaris, they were farmers.
Yeah it's a ridiculous design.
@@JoshuaJonahhaha, maybe bad farmers, the ones I know are pretty practical.
@@2vintage th-cam.com/video/qNRQmCUagrA/w-d-xo.html
100% agree, my 96 XPRESS 300 was the same, changed the plug when I bought it in '19.................pretty sure it was the OEM from the factory.
Those Polaris machines always seem like money pits. Although your willingness to fix them is inspiring Joe. Thumbs up as always man.
Yeah, I'll usually always pass on them unless they're super cheap or some
After watching this, I understand why I love Honda! What a nightmare.
Amen
Reminds me of John Candy's words in the movie Planes, Trains and Automobiles after two semis pulverized the rental car " A little bondo, some paint and she's like new.."😅
I'm only here for Vinnie !!! Kiding but always glad when i see him !! That ball of energy!! Keep it up ! Hard fan here !
I bought a 2009 Kawasaki prairie 3604x4 from my grandma for 700 bucks
Just needs a carburator rebuild and the clutch shimmed
Special Guest Star 2Vinny looks excited about the project. He smells big Alpo money in a quick flip. Great project, keep up the hard work
Every thing with a motor on Marketplace is an “easy fix” so they say! 😂
True or needs a carb clean, if that was the case why wouldn't the seller, easy fix or clean carb and ask for more money🤷
Most of the Facebook people say I have no time to fix it and have to many projects
@@myguitaryourface5160 "I have no time to fix it and have to many projects" ------ ----MARKETPLACE TRANSLATION - Oh Crap, I found a lot more things wrong than I a willing or able to fix.
I really admire your electrical skills, something that I've always struggled with in the past.
Just takes practice and a few youtube videos, it's not bad.
That bulb appears to be a fairly standard H4 bulb although maybe I'm missing something. Working on a polaris 500 right now with a blown head gasket!
You can also buy a 9003 bulb from any auto store (they list H4 as an alternative number).
Or they put a tarp over it and then leave it for years without taking it off or buying a new one - "yea that tarp full of holes oughta keep it protected"
Joe, You must drain the rest of the oil also by pulling the bottom drain bolt. This oil still in the engine is bad and would trash any new oil you put in. It has about a red solo cup (16 ounces) of oil left for sure.
So you would only change it once?
No way I would even think of not changing it again when I had it running.
Titaniumman Garage does a lot of Polaris repairs. He has some good bypasses & tricks to get around basket case quads. You can save yourself a ton of money.
That high pitch squeak in the background of your videos is driving me nuts!
Thanks for your videos !
It is ruining nice videos, JBL headphones.
Famous Classic Words "It Should Be A Simple Fix" $1200 later, it may start. lol. If it is such an easy fix, why didn't he fix it in the first place. These people will say anything to sell a Turd.
Exactly
In all fairness 2 Vin has gotten so good he makes anything seem like an easy fix best chanel out there
I am new here - who is Vin?
@@user-ik4fd9ny4bthe TH-camr
“Ran when parked, just needs a carb clean, started last year”🤔😏
I swear you are the go to reference channel for not ever buying a polaris, can am, knock off Chinese anything.....couldnt be happier with my hondas and suzukis and yamahas
You're turning into a master small engine mechanic and it amazes me on allthe stuff you learn in the years! Ive been doing stuff like this for years and once i get to a engine not running right even when it's got compression/spark/fuel and timing i just get stumped to the point i throw stuff away and never learned passed that part. You're knowledge and what you do is amazing and i can't believe we get to watch such a great TH-camr with this talent and teaching us all its just a blessing to watch your videos I mean it your a great person and love everything that you bring here on TH-cam 💪💪 keep it up bro!
It's pretty easy, just takes a lil learning/thinking
Brilliant video Joe watching from Edinburgh Scotland UK 🇬🇧 👏
This kind of bike would be listed for $1,000+ in Louisiana here. People crazy with prices on junkers. Wish we had some sensible people around here. Had to give up working on bikes & outboards because you can’t find em cheap enough to fix & resell for a profit
I know you were regretting buying it, but as a fan, it's the basket case projects you problem solve that I find the most interesting, because I feel like it teaches me more. Really respect the way you chase down a problem, without ever getting on tilt! Thank you!
And really good camera work too!
" I don't think the stater looks that bad?" Must be nice to have X-ray vision
This headlight bulb is called "H4". Here in Europe is the most common socket (plug type) in headlights for cars, bikes, ATVs... It has 3 leads because it is normal light and high beam in one bulb. If you look closely it has two wires in it.
my grandfather would rewire that also and more from 5 years old until 21 ,top man like you
If the seller says it should be a simple repair, run and see if you still have your wallet in your pocket. If it were really simple, he would have made it himself and sold it for more.
U right ✅️
Headlight bulbs are H4 Halogen which are very common in car headlights in the UK and are available in most petrol stations and car spares retailers, that CV joint will be full of grit so will need a good clean or will ware out very quickly. Not a bad machine for the price and should not cost too much to get in good running order.
That sounds about as fun as the one that said the bike needed "a" piston ring.
Ebay will do them bulbs generally normal car head light bulb uk style anyway
Compared to my 85 trx125 yours looks brand new mine looks very bad looks like its broke and done but r7ns perfect been using it for towing a hige trailer full of sawdust for over 20 years broken cases loud reverse clicking sounds faded broken plastics rust everywhere leaks oil and air and many other problems but still running strong 💪 😮
Check out green wire where it plugs into the 3 wires when you were testing it looked like it was wiggling around with the tester 27:22 but it’s hard to tell on my end . Definitely will be a good machine with little work. I think it will fire right up after the new stater, and carb rebuild great work Joe and Vinny
I have found when someone says "it should be a simple fix" normally means you have to strip it completely apart and remove the mess, reassemble just to see what shape the engine is in (no need to take the engine apart if you don't need too) and hope it then runs
Currently have a couple of Arctic cats, but been looking at picking up one of these sportsman’s to fix up, I like the way they look
"cv axel is a little iffy." lol, hahaha, that thing looks destroyed, lol 😂
Just binge watched all of your utv and atv videos I could find all of them a great entertainment source 🎉
Seller: Once you get it up and running Joe, I will buy it back for the $300😅😂😮
The concrete thing under the front springs are notorious for breaking making the wheel jiggle a bit on older Polaris scramblers, sportsman’s and trailblazers or anything with that type of shock and there not easy to get so look out for thay
IT'S CONTENT, 300 BUCKS EVEN IF HE PUT IN A GRAND, UNLIKELY, IT'S WORTH 1,300.
I am guessing he'll make more than that for the views, right?
I miss Wisconsin..
I love the Polaris sportsman 400
On old cars and your atv it is the brushes that connect the starter. So thorough cleaning of the brushes and rotor where the brushes spin then you don't have to buy a new starter as this one is perfectly good.
Get yourself one of those 120 V winches from Harbor freight and mounted to the floor at the furthest wall of your shop so that you can just winch stuff off the truck into the shop
Great buy? Quick flip? Does Vinny approve? Another great video, keep up the hard work
I could tell ya some crazy stories bout repairing those. Been through hell with em, especially the transmissions.
Vinnie is stoked! 🐶🐶🐶
@2:06
He's asking you wtf you were thinking this time.😂
That light bulb is a 9003 or and H4 found in every auto parts. Love your content keep it up.
I really enjoy you channel now for the last year and half now, what i like about it is you keep it simple straight forward also you keep it low budget not over the equipment.
Maybe a lift in the future would be a great asset even for the side by sides.
H4 or 9003 headlight, they'll both work and available at any local parts store.
Deoxit is good for electrical connections.
Deoxit D5, it's the go to for anyone that works on electronics!
Vinnie always makes me smile 😀😀😀
He bought another Polaris. The man is a glutton for punishment.
If anyo ne can get this up and running, it will be you and your skills. You are great.
I took a chance one time old turd like that. I ended up scraping in it out and keeping all the nuts and bolts all the good stuff. It really help me out down the road you know miscellaneous bowl in the not have to run in the hardware shop think about it
😊😊 This is more or less what I could afford. My only question is do I need one. My Z turn lawnmower is probably as close as I’ll ever come to a quad. Ha. 😊😊😊 Still enjoying following from my armchair. 😊
I'm glad to see you working on a 4 wheeler, I enjoy these videos, thanks Joe.
You got this.
I have a 2006 artic cat 400 4x4.. it had intermittent spark due to thr magnets in the flywheel had broken glue joints and a missing magnet.. so i replaced it with a one piece flywheel.. works great now.
That's a steal. I be looking on fb market place, I can't find anything in that $300, range or even look that good. And that's not gonna need much. To get going. I mean, 4 me, that's a deal and a keeper, for flipping, maybe u sell foe $1800. And still come out even, gotta figure the labor time
All that just to get to the sparkplug. What a great design.
I think the explorers were the absolute worst to fix. Still do it all the time in my shop.😊
The decompression lever explains the lower compression when it cranks over
I target sportsman’s specifically to repair and flip. The engine is really good considering, the electronics however leave a lot to be desired. But I can pick these up all day long for under 500$, put a few hundred in parts into it and sell a good running machine for 15-1800$. Tires are often the reason people quit riding them here, but I don’t replace them with high dollar tires, nothing but sun f or kenda and it still has room for profit. Also as much as I enjoy riding the 500 sportsman I prefer my Yamaha big bear 400 though I do have a Polaris ranger . Good money to be made flipping sportsman’s, better than Honda’s as I usually get them with roasted rear differentials.
That's a standard H4 halogen globe for a car headlight
Good trouble shooting on that stator! Did it fry because the original owner shorted out the electrical with the wire reversal or a bad battery jump or maybe just water in the case from submarine duty? You got a lot of courage taking this on but who knows till you get more into it.😳
The headlight bulb is the same one that's in my 95 honda civic, got my bulbs at Walmart
Wish I lived closer to ya! Would like to have a beater like this for a snowplow rig. 👍👍
Polaris has their own specific parts, such as lights and batteries. They are a pain. You have to get everything from Polaris.
I had the same problem with gas in the oil when I was fixing one of my Polaris Sportsman. It sucks the gas right past the rings in to the bottom end.
Plenty of those bulbs in Australian stores
Why do people cut wiring like that? Just makes it a pain.
One thing I've learned from watching your channel. A damn seller will straight up lie to you!
Oh yeah for sure. Happens almost every time lol
Obsessed with lights😂
Can get the bulbs from your local polaris dealer. Or maybe online
Unless i want to be in it after every ride tearing it apart, i stay far away from polaris machines. Maybe some day theyll design better machines or at least make them to hold up
That headlight bulb is an H4. Super common bulb available at any parts store.
Vinny is parking in excitement he saying right now there is somebody with an 04 trailblazer was starting issues the customer took it to the shop still doesn't work and not buttoned up
You got a good parts rig there.
if u turn the wheel instead of pulling out on strut to get axle out it wont fight u so bad ..... just a little tip
H4 headlight bulb Joe 💪
Mega Spot that on the coil buddy
Have to thank you for buying this one I almost bought it. Good luck she needs work.
We need a bike tour soon
You go Vinnie !!
Whatever happened to the ranger the gray one?
How's the wedding band? Is the wifey mad? And I believe your garage could benefit from a 3pc pry bar set. And you need a large proper flat head for the case access covers. Vs you tapping it with a smaller flat head in the slot.... LOL
If anything once the core of the bike is good you can sale as is or keep it for good parts
I actually like the complete disaster projects like these.
I know you lose money on them but I find to be like a complete restoration project without being a complete restoration.
It turns the project into a little mini series.
Thanks Joe, very interesting. 😊
Probably going to end up being a great buy.
Hopefully!
Tearing apart a Polaris is like tearing apart the Terminator with a butter knife.
'Probably shouldn't have bought it?' says a lot Joe!Gl with this, sure to have a few gremlins brother!😲🤔😬😬🤞🤞
And on the next episode of "Boat Anchor Resurrection" LOL, great buy on this turd, polish er up =)
CV joint is iffy, that's the understatement of the year. 😂
Iowa State! More like Beat State. Thanks for the videos.
Does the Land Rover Discovery ever move or is it like most Discos, a pile of rubbish.
I’m amazed at what you do with the things you buy, my favorite videos are the side by sides, I have a 05 Polaris ranger 500 that I bought and have been working on i replaced a frame bushing , all the brakes , all new tires , carb intake, but my one problem is I can’t figure out why It won’t go out of 4 wheel drive, any suggestions?
“Seller said “ 😂🤣. My brother in law listens to salesmen too😂🤣
Vinny he is excited❤
