I installed a tool-less guide rod and keyed reverse plug. Polished all the ignition components and tuned the sear spring to get a 2.5lb trigger pull. The only mim parts are the thumb safeties and the firing pin stop. got two 20-rd duramags. Added a WML and a RDO. IMO for the price this gun jumps way ahead of the prodigy and girsan. no need to change out any part except maybe thumb safeties but I heard they will machine them in house eventually. Keeping an eye on the Tisas.
Im with you, needs full dust cover. Slide cuts are SCREAMING for ports! Id probably have to PVD that slide a different color. I remember the STI tree bark 😊
I for one would be very curious to see the apollo 11 ported as I haven't seen anyone port one yet, which is a shame as those slide cuts are begging for some porting. (edit. LOL ,youtube thinks this is about the moon landings now, so aim for the moon and dream BIG. 🌘)
great video..stoked that LFA puts out some good stuff that can be made better. would be cool if they offered an upmodel, right out the gate as many folk who would pay for it, wouldn't buy a gun, then send it off for a few weeks to 'upgrade it'. have you heard of winter coats? they're new, like 1911s and rare.
This is honestly such a difficult decision. It's decent pistol and it's fairly cheap for a 2011 but it's STILL a $1000 gun. At that price I can get a Shadow 2 and have an excellent pistol that's ready to go with no further investment. 2011 market is just sad.
If u have a staccato or something else I’d say modify that gun and use old parts on this gun you’ll definitely be happy in the end if u attack it like that
What do you think of the the new 800 dollar double stack 1911 from Tisas? They have almost no MIM parts inside, and they’d look better with a full length dust cover and rail, but I’m curious to hear your thoughts if you pick one up bro 😎
Tisas is really working to make good stuff. I have the Night Stalker 1911 and it is a very good gun. Girsan released their 2311 and it is ok, but wait a while to get that one. Both Turkish companies are in hot competition for the US market. The Dan Wesson DWX is phenomenal and done right, it has the CZ pedigree and at $1900 it is pricey, but so worth it. These companies still want to have a bit of 1911 design in them and are not producing a full-length frame. They don't get it that by the time you put 20 rounds in the magazine you need the weight on the opposing end.
@@roguemodel not a fan of the Girsan. It’s just kinda ugly in my opinion and I think it should’ve been made with a heavy KKM bull barrel instead of having a standard barrel and bushing.
@@blaiseeltine9516 I really don’t care who makes a pistol, as long as they do it right🤷🏻♂️ it’s not the country that made the gun that pulls the trigger to defend his family, it’s the man with the gun in his hand.
Hello skips, I'm looking for my first 2011 and I'm torn between the prodigy and this apollo 11 pistol. Which of the two would you suggest. I would like to do a comp and some other upgrades as well.
Im thinking the springfield is the better choice for now. Im stil seeing LFA take in rma alopollo 11's and not do enough to eveen feed hollow points meanwhile springfield is dixing the guns right on up with any issues. I do like the looks of the 4.25 apollo 11 though
@@Christian-nk7uvJust remember the RIA is a boat anchor on the side incase to need to lose your guns in a boating accident. They are steel frames and also have fewer accessories.
Here is my issue with these guns, including the Tisas and the Girsan. They try and hold onto some semblance of the 1911. They make short frames. The idea behind the full-length frame is to provide a counterweight for a full 20-round magazine. I can feel this at the range. You have to mount a flashlight to balance the gun, lighting is secondary. STOP DOING THIS. t's a nice little gun for the money. However, at this point, the Prodigy is selling for a $1200 street price. I shot this 2 weeks ago at my club. It was not my gun but another member's. He liked it until he shot my TRS comp. No idea the price of the TRS and he turned white when I told him. I told him about Skip and what Skip could do. He is budget-minded, who isn't? I thought it acted a bit slow and I can;t explain what I felt, it felt like a "hitch" when the slide returned to battery. Someone said maybe the disconnector or magazine was the issue? I would buy one, get a bit of work done, and carry it. That way, if you ever had to pull and shoot, you won't sweat when the cops take it. I predict that budget double-stack 1911s (2011),, will proliferate and manufacturers will figure out the secret sauce between quality and price. I am looking to get one.
I actually like the factory grip on my Apollo 11. I just threw a 507k green dot on it and shoot the piss out of it lol The only thing I want to add is a low profile magwell but the only one I can find in stock is the Dawson and I don't like the way it looks.
If u plan on modifying it to shoot comps I’d save money for updates then get either honestly cause I didn’t have any issues with either u go have more grip options with Lfa though
