    Yes Gandhi was a champion for Indian civil rights but he was not a champion for civil rights in general as he viewed Africans as less than indians. He wanted Indians to be treated equally to the British above the Native Africans. In fact because of this racism he is widely hated in Ghana and many parts of South Africa.

    You mean half-siblings?

    • @DrewGJackson
      @DrewGJackson 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A sibling is someone with whom you share at least one parent. In other words, “half-sibling” is a meaningless term. You can have a half-brother or a half-sister but they’re still your sibling(s). Equally meaningless would be “step-sibling” as a term. A sibling is a blood relative; a step-relative is not. So you can’t have a blood relative who isn’t a blood relative.

    • @jamiea9634
      @jamiea9634 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@DrewGJackson A half-sibling means you only have one parent in common, where as step-sibling means your parents are married but not biologically related to each other. It is perfectly legal for step-siblings to get married but illegal (In most places) to marry your half-sibling . Saying someone is a half-sibling doesn't mean they are lesser then a full sibling just an explanation that that you only have one parent in common. If my son talks about his sister at school I am sure someone would wonder why she doesn't go to the same school or live with us. If he says his half-sister then it automatically explains this and the fact she lives with her mother most of the time. This doesn't make them any less siblings, they still play and argue just the same as all siblings since the beginning of time, just not all the time. All words are meaning less if you want to go back far enough, that isn't a good argument.

    Whoa this comment section is so toxic.
    You guys are nit-picking on Gandhi for no good reason.
    He was a very important politician for us here in India and he played a significant role in the freedom movement.
    Talking about some of his personal views, well then, give him a break, Gandhi was born in the 19th century. Most people in those days had lots of messed up views. Former US President Woodrow Wilson is a good example of that.
    Also, a lot of these "personal views" of Gandhi come from the British press, which was heavily biased against Gandhi and Indian Independence activists, hence the consistent demonizing of Gandhi was done by the British press.
    A lot of these claims about Gandhi's "personal views" and "personal life" stems out of the highly negative coverage that Gandhi and the Indian independence movement received from the British press.

    Disclaimer:Constructive criticism
    Your title was about whether are there any Gandhis left. You focused most of your video on who Mahatma Gandhi was.
    Again coming to his name surviving. You reduced the survival just to his descendants. Gandhi is a popular name that exists in India. Like Smith in America. What you said is like saying Smith surname was kept alive just by Joseph Smith's descendants. Actually it would be better to say he was one of the many Smiths and similarly MK Gandhi was one of the many Gandhis.

    I have one major complaint about this video, it heavily mythicised and distorted the life of ghandi. In truth, ghandi was a huge racist, and though he fought for Indian rights in South Africa, he made it well clear he did not want rights for Africans, calling them the Afrikaans version of the n word, and saying he wanted Indians to be above the Africans in the South African social pyramid. Later on in his life he would also be an islamaphobe and he did a lot of pedophilic things. I’d suggest watching the Knowing Better video of how the dark history of Ghandi has been erased.

      They are not relative with Mahatma Gandhi. Indira Gandhi was the daughter of the first president of India, Jawaharlal Nehru, a friend of Mahatma Gandhi.

      No, those Gandhis aren't related to Mahatma. What happened was that Nehru's son-in-law Feroze, changed his surname to Gandhi in honour of Mahatma, before marrying Nehru's daughter Indira. Indira of course had a son, Rajiv, who succeeded her as PM after her assassination.
      Their descendants continue to play a role in Indian politics to this day, but again, bear no relation to Mahatma Gandhi.
