  • @zubdub2506
    @zubdub2506 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Yeah, I would point out that this isn't a "Reasons the AKV is better than the AR9" as much as it is "This is why I like the AKV more than the AR9". Everything mentioned, sans ammunition capacity and magazine cost, was really subjective. What's not subjective is pointing out overall better ergonomics and function in form of the AR9. What's also not subjective is that, while you might enjoy the recoil impulse of the AKV more, the AR9 boasts a considerably less noticeable recoil impulse, making for measurably faster follow-up shooting, which is what's ideal with a pistol carbine. Furthermore, is reliability, the AR9 boasts considerably greater overall functional reliability when compared to the AKV. How so? Because despite the myths, the AR platform is undeniably more reliable in practice than the AK series rifles, and becomes even more evident when chambering either rifle in a pistol caliber.
    Don't get me wrong, I love the PSA AK-V, mine has been a hoot to shoot. But it doesn't hold a candle to my QC9 or AR9 build.

    • @aussieexpat
      @aussieexpat  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      OK revealing my hand here, but I do think the AR9 is the better firearm. But these are just the top 5 reasons I think the AKV is better.
      I've been ramping up to do the reverse video (top 5 reasons the AR9 is better than the AKV), so I've been shooting my AR9 again to retest my assumptions. And I'm just going to have to disagree on reliability. Glock big sticks are just not as reliable as the CZ Scorpion mags. The single stack tapering just introduces a lot of variability into ammo and how soot impacts feeding. So after 3 matches, I got a failure to feed from one of my mags in the latest match. 100% preventable, but it's just soot build up. But, I've had many more rounds down range in the AKV mag between cleaning.
      This will all change once PSA release CZ scorp mag lowers by the end of the year (hopefully)!
      Recoil impulse... I agree and disagree. The AKV feels better, feels softer, but results in greater dot movement and isn't as "fast". I do mention that in this video. If your criteria is speed, AR9, all day long. If your criteria is a buttery warm feeling, that's the AKV. To be more scientific about this, the recoild impulse on the AKV is very heavily damped, longer travel, heavier bolt, multiple buffers. It "feels" soft, the peak impulse is lower than a tuned AR9. The AR9 however, is just faster. The impulse is more peaky, resulting in higher perceived recoil, but a faster cycle time.
      At the end of the day, the exact same amount of energy is being projected to the rear (they both shoot the same cartridge). The question is how that energy is delivered.

    • @zubdub2506
      @zubdub2506 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@aussieexpat you'd be the first person I've heard argue against the reliability of Glock magazines. So I'll take your complaint with a grain of salt. However, Glock configurations are not the only AR9 lower. My QC9 (AR9) accepts MP5 mags, and it puts any AKV to shame in all aspects. I'd also argue against felt recoil. While yes, the AKV boasts a longer range of travel for the action, it's throwing more metal back, causing more shift and overall play in the action. There's nothing buttery smooth about the system. It's bulky, heavy, and janky. But, they are fun as hell.

    • @aussieexpat
      @aussieexpat  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@zubdub2506 i talk to a lot of fellow PCC competitors. Everyone Ive talked to deals with glock big stick woes.
      The issue isnt solely the design of the glock big sticks, its a combo of factors.
      1. 33rds isnt enough capacity for uspsa stages and outlaw matches, so we're all running big extensions eg. 41 to 51rd capacity.
      2. The blowback leads to a lot of fouling.
      The AKV mags seem to just cope with fouling and steel cased ammo more reliably. Even clean, i cant get 17rd glock mags to lift tulammo to the feed lips.

    • @zubdub2506
      @zubdub2506 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@aussieexpat except that's not an issue with the magazines or the rifle, that's an issue with the extensions. Said shooters took a stock configuration, and altered it, resulting in failures. Regarding your comment on 17rd magazines failing? Again, I'll take it with a grain of salt, being that you're the first person I've heard complain about Glock mag performance in AR9s. Maybe you've just got bad luck with Glock mags like I do Ruger Mini-14s? lol
      The fouling argument isn't one I would consider much of an issue, either. Unless, you're going to be putting thousands of rounds through that carbine in a single day, and not even afford the chamber a quick wipe-down. In which case, that's a failure on your (General "You" there, not you specifically) part as a shooter.
      AR9 carbines I've ran, be it through regular range day shenanigans, or classes, perform fairly well, far better than the AKV could be expected to perform. I would emphasize that my best results in practice have been with Quarter Circle 10's QC9.
      The linchpin deciding factors you mention, really amount to shooter error/modifications outside of the factory specifications. They can be avoided by not altering magazines, and cleaning the carbine, which should be done between range trips anyway, as good practice.
      Now, of course, where PCC is concerned? That's very specific, and purpose-driven shooting. It's not to be compared to, or considered representative of traditional tactical/home defense shooting or recreational shooting. Where the general shooter is going to be concerned, being limited to a 33rd magazine really is a non-issue. In the interest of your follow-up video, and in honest, good intention here, I would suggest you make that clarification.
      After all, many folks look to general or vague messages relating to firearms from channels they like as their tactical scripture. Making sure proper, contextual information is delivered is always important. I don't mean to sound like I'm telling you how to run your channel/content/life, of course, just offering you my perspective.
      In all honesty, I've been thoroughly enjoying your videos since discovering this one, and plan to continue to follow along as you make more content. Thank you for engaging me directly, and without hostility, as well. Many folks often take direct criticism or observations as offensive, so this has been really refreshing.

    • @aussieexpat
      @aussieexpat  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I understand what you are saying. In an absolute sense, with the correct precautions, you can make a glock fed AR9 100% reliable. My AR9 I consider 100% reliable at this point as long as I choose it to (ie. Clean mags every 200rds, load test all ammo for reliability before using in a match).
      However, with absolutely none of the same considerations, the AKV and its mags just cannot be stopped and have more capacity.
      Without extensions the glock 33rd is a non starter. 35 rounds cuts it, 40 or 50 even better. I just dont see standard capacity 33rd as being competitive or reliable considering how hard it is to remove the factory extension.

I wish I had bought this first instead of the AR 9 Gen 4 which has been back at PSA for a month now. My AR 9 will not eject the fired brass. #1-I have the Foxtrot Mike AR 9 and the lrbho works flawlessly every time.
    #2- Glock mags are legendary for flawless performance and since anyone who is smart already has tons of those then cost is a pointless argument.
    #3- FM9 trigger is incredible in stock form but if that’s not good enough for you it’s replaceable.
    #4- recoil is not even worth mentioning for a 9mm weapon so it’s a pointless point.
    #5-looks are subjective. Personally I prefer the looks of the AR9.
    Enjoy what you like like-like what you got. But I suspect that if you used both on the same day you would favor the AR9. Especially if it was the FM9. And lastly there’s no way that an ak safety is anywhere near as good as an ar safety. I have about a dozen ar15 based weapons and about the same number of ak based weapons including several 9mm versions and I love em all but if I had to compete or grab one for self defense the ar platform stands alone.

    • @aussieexpat
      @aussieexpat  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have definitely been hearing more and more good things about the FM uppers. Although most of the friends I have run buffer set ups that disable the LRBHO. Either way, it's a very weak reason to choose one PCC over another, and you'll see in my AR9 beats AKV video, the LRBHO on the AKV actually introduces a much worse problem with regards to mag changes.
      2. I don't know about flawless. I know that's most people's experience shooting glocks right up until they start playing with AR9s. I think it's mainly to do with how the mag design deals with fouling. The tapering to a single stack requires a certain amount of cleanliness that is more laborious to maintain in a blowback gun.
      3. Recoil on both platforms is light enough that most people will not blink. But in most cases, it is higher than that of an AR15. What most people are experiencing is the massively reduced volume of the report. From a competition perspective, unless it's recoiling like a .22lr, it could use improvement. Hence recoil makes an appearance here and on my AR9 beats AKV video response.
      th-cam.com/video/bt3Sbeasxoo/w-d-xo.html
      Glad to have your well communicated feedback! I basically agree on everything except the glock mag reliability.

      I have heard of people having some issues with jackets coming off on the muzzle brake. I've not experienced it about 1k rounds in but I wouldn't discount it.
      Try rotate your muzzle break one more revolution tighter and then index with the retention pusher thingy... Perhaps the muzzle brake isn't all the way on and gives it more slop than ideal.
      I know mine from the factory had one more revolution to go. AKOU has a guide on how to time muzzle devices for AKs precisely and all you really need is a hand file and sand paper to get it very snug and timed precisely.

    #1 LRBHO is available on Glock fed AR9' AMERICAN RESISTANCE GEAR has a bomb proof LRBHO and is robust and 100% reliable even on full auto
    #2 having a pistol caliber carbine that does not share mags with your side arm makez no sense at all.
    #3 Glock mags are known to be some of the most reliable mags out there. The magpul glock mags have work 100% for me and others
    #5 Glock is the most used pistol in the world so making a PCC that doesn't use Glock mags is short sighted👍🇺🇸
