It's a shame that people just let cars rot into the ground
they are not collectors....they are hoarders
@@frankvellake2077 who cares if he's happy that's all that matters hes not hurting anybody
They must have certain issues. And when Tom mentions how much they could possibly get, they don't care. Strange
@@colinhamilton6493 I guess to each his own some people hoard money some people hoard possessions some people collect money some people collect possessions I don't know if you call it strange or money in the bank
You find your dream car, and you don’t wash it?
People!
Dude was definitely NOT a car guy. It wouldn't take much to get that Corvette to at least look good. Car of his "birth year" and supposedly special to him but he let's it sit under a pecan tree and get all nasty and says he would eventually sell it? Yeah, sell it to me, at least I would wash it and put a cover over it. Lol.
@@Funsho97ive been looking for the same year in white and red but with the gymkhana rear suspension and MT, i still havent found it, this was pretty close.
Bet the guy wishes he was born more like 1967.
he may have other expensives cars lined up in his garage and the corvett is just a project car which he does not have time to do and letting it rot is sad.
That black tree sap really accentuates the lines of that white Corvette. It's like cel shading or charcoal sketch art. That'd be a cool look to do with Plasti Dip.
I just blows my mind when people buy a classic car and park it in their front yard as yard art!
WHY???
Time constraints money constraints and life gets in the way
And yes it is still need a lot but at that point the people have enough of a combination of time and money into it that they don't want to sell it and this is why 90% of projects don't get done
Cause he don't know crap about cars
@@brinleynicholson4588 not so much that it's lack of time most weeks I have maybe one or two days tops on a good week timewise to put into a project ideally I don't make a living off this I still have bills to pay and other things I enjoy doing so yes I'm sure you can shotgun a project in 3 months it'll probably take me 3 years
@@brinleynicholson4588 Clearly this guy is in that category. What 35,000 mile old car needs engine work, suspension work, and new Steering column bearings? He bought on emotions and got burned. He bought a tired old vette
Nobody in there right mind would pay $11k for that car. The owner would be lucky to get $5k tops.
Agreed, though if he cleaned up the paint and fixed the cosmetic issues with the interior I bet he could get 10-11k
Agreed, the first guy was a story of telling us you’re not a car guy without telling us you’re not a car guy, and the second guy was like listening to Eeyore
It’s should be a crime to leave that Sunbeam Tiger to rot away in that barn.
I know a guy who has a 1968 Shelby 500 Mustang with 19990 miles on it plus a 1969 Boss 302 Mustang. These cars just sit with weeds and trees growing around them. It sometimes makes me sick to visit him a see these two cars just sitting😢
Where?
@@NathanBatalon they are in North Carolina in the charlotte area
I can't believe that dude would buy that Corvette in such good condition, note the interior, And then let it rot while a tree craps all over it. Jeez, man, at least buy a car cover for it in the very least
I just worked on a friend's 1980 Vette a couple weeks back. Original owner, under 30k miles, probably #2 condition now, but with some detail work it would be #1. It's red with black interior, and runs/drives fine. There is no way it's worth $40K.
A non-special edition c4 is pretty cheap they made so many of them He's specifically talking about a concourse grade car which any budget job will never be
Remember this is sponsored by an insurance company The higher the value the more money they get
We come for the cars. Stay for the stories and the interesting people. It’s a winning combo so stick with it.
And parked under a pecan tree and that sap.
@@paulm6481 maybe he's trying to sprout a rubber tree plant
Great video Tom. Love the Tiger. A pocket rocket. Cheers!!
Yeah, you can get a Corvette for a decent price, but they still cost a FORTUNE to restore. I just did a '77 Vette two years ago. I restored a 64.5 Mustang for half the price of the Vette and the Mustang needed twice as much work! Lol Speaking of expensive project cars, I have a '65 Sunbeam Tiger next in line to get fixed up too
That’s a $2500 car all day
Check the ground cable coming from the battery box in the rear to the chassis. Those things get eaten up from hitting things/bumps in the road. Might solve your electrical issue.
Great video and I love my Barn Find Hunter hat!
In pricing the car, Tom states that it is an L82, but the 195hp version is the L48 base engine. The L82 was 225hp. And I believe it would say "L82" under the Corvette emblems on the fenders, if such. I had a 1979 L82 Greenwood Sportswagon until it unceremoniously burned to the ground in Phoenix, Az.
And no matter what, this is one of the lowest-HP Corvettes ever made in the modern era. If I wanted to actually drive that car, I'd LS swap that thing in a NY minute, and stash the original engine in the barn for the next guy who might want to restore it.
@@redmondjp -- With mine having the L82 and an automatic and my wife having a 1995 Buick Riviera with the 225hp supercharged V6, we just had to run them. The Riviera smoked the Vette. But with that station wagon back end, the Vette was stunning.
That is an L-48, pretty much worthless. It’s a money pit. Sad thing about ‘vettes, even the chrome bumper ones are worth less than a decent 67-69 Camaro! I had a ‘71 LS-5 ‘vette fun, dumped a lot of money in it.
How much does a cover cost?
Wow , Lotus Europa , such a great car
I drive by 'Beetle Spin' almost weekly on one of my loops. Thx for the series. Keep turning. Cheers,ed
Tom... there was no L-82 badging on that Corvette... what made you say it was an
L-82 ???
Yeah the owner even said it was an l-48.
@@scottm9605The black fin aluminum valve covers are usually put on an L82 but that doesn't mean somebody didn't change them
@@joelclark9944 yeah valve covers are so commonly changed I wouldn't count on that
I took a picture of that Europa while on driving from Ontario to Florida last March. I had considered knocking on the door of the shop.
My 12:51 fav part of the video!!❤
Wish the owners were half as interesting as the cars
Glade to see tom !
Wet the Corvette down and scrub the car with Ajax or Comet. After rinsed and dried, buff the paint with wax. Works great on cleaning up older white vehicles.
These Hoarders need to be honest..THEY WILL NEVER GET AROUND TO RESTORING THESE CARS !
That’s why I daily one project and keep the other in pieces on the garage floor. Keeps me motivated and no car payment.
Regarding the battery drain, does the clock still work? If not, it probably shorted out and is a steady battery draining point afterwards. Good luck with your restoration! 💙💙💙
That car is screaming RESTO-MOD
Great job
Nice find on the Corvette.
Nice!
In the UK it's called a Mini Van (it's the van variant - no windows on the side) & it's the original & only Mini Van (1960-1983), you had a choice of 4 bodies - Mini Saloon/Mini Estate/ Mini Van or Mini Pickup. What they call a Mini Van in the US/Canada is a people carrier ( it has rows of seats & windows all round like a bus).
DUDE?! Put a test light between the damn battery clamp and post and start popping fuses till the dim glow goes off!
IT could be anything from a coin stuck in the lighter to a bad diode in the alternator, big whoop, don't just let it rot over something so dumb.
79 around that year are my favourite models
Steering columns don't wear out after 35K Sir. 😆👍
Come to Connecticut!!!!!! PLEASE COME ON!
It's a base engine automatic.
Europa is cool. we drove one over a mini-roundabout in the UK .. sparks went flying
I mean it is built in a shed in Britain lol
Must have been filmed late winter/early spring.
That’s the hardest 35K miles I’ve ever seen.
we need more from content barn hunter..miss alot
Get rid of those turbine wheels and put the rally wheels back on it.
And … damn… build a shed and put it inside!
Daisy is the Lamborghini, did you ever try to keep up with the Herding Breed??? Lol!!!
Don't like adding bad on this string but have to say seriously doubt that's original miles. Not a beater but pretty much figure it'll need a pretty thorough dissection.
If it was 35k miles the numbers would not be uneven, they would all line up evenly.
More on the 100/4 pls
How bout 235000 miles!
Is that a JPS Esprit in the far background @ 07:52?
There seems to be a lot of I’m going to do that
No way he has a mini van. Time to sell up.
Lot of cleaning color back a good pair restore item some wet sanding to get any rough marks on the paint job sting rays are nice still today I seen a few in my time had a few chances to have one very rare time of my age I knew a drag boat racer that had one
I'm sorry but those corvettes are not worth near 40K or even 30. 20K gets u a perfectly perfect car
I need a 1959 Sunbeam Rapier
My mom had one of those corvettes in that hot red color. It was a turd.
Love the episodes but not the recent advertisements..
When Tom says.." no kidding..."
pretty certain he's really saying " I literally don't believe you "
Excellent example of a non-car guy owning an old car.
Ouuu... look there... is a corvette.... kkkkkkk, nice!
I wonder who owns the 93 Supra? He might be in our group chat.
Every car is always less than 100 thousand miles...LOL....doesn't anyone ever acknowledge the misalignment of the digits on the odometer? This car is no way less than 100 thousand. In addition to that I doubt a steering column is going to fail sitting around with 37 thousand miles on it.......
If it continues to develop like this soon we'll not get much of Barn Find Hunters between the ads... Sad.
I had no ads..🤷♂️
@@blueman5924 Looks like he's such a good salesman that you didn't even realize he's advertising...
If the Mini van was in top notch condition your looking at mega money in £'s or $'s and having the steering wheel on the correct side🤭🤣and according to shipping cost might be worth selling as it is to someone in the uk,
C'mon sell some of them you will NEVER complete them and use the money on the ones you keep.
Buying your dream car, and park it out side for 2 years.
The only way that Corevette comes out on the road is, if he sells it....
This guy know slightly more on suit pressing than cars.
13:21 Priceless expression Tom regarding the "good looking motor".
Thank you for great videos from Russia, love you, guys❤
Not Adam's fault that the paint is ruined. Blame the tree that he parked it under.
👍
I'll take those t tops to use with mine. How much you want for them?
How much are they worth?
35k... with the interior in that condition "Scratches head"
To all the whiners, moaners, and chastisers ripping this gentleman apart for having languishing project cars - just consider the alternative. Do you want Tom to show us empty spaces where the cars used to be before they were scrapped and reincarnated as microwave ovens and washing machines? Unlike most car hoarders, Dave is a professional. I believe him when he says he has two top priority projects he will undertake in his new shop. Guessing many of the remaining cars will find new homes with other "restorers" with every intention of breathing new life into these old hulks. If you were in the game, you would be very grateful these guys and their collections are still out there.
"boomers hoarding literal trash seeping back into the ground" - new show name.
Dude definly looks like he belongs in that vette!
Def not 35k miles lol
I'd like to see the cars "David" has in his shop. But if he'd rather not, and I wouldn't hold it against him, I'd like to see they cars he fixed up for you. But if you'd rather not, I'd understand.
How many times have we seen this ?? That guy has cars he will NEVER get to. They should be sold to someone who will....
I'll bet anybody on here a $1000.He just lets that thing right away
"it doesn't have any computer chips in it which I'm a big fan of." Computer chip free cars are going to real popular real soon unlike the EV's and other "compliant" cars.
This car was for real racers
Bought my 78 Manual Vette 2 years ago for 12k. Probably put into it another 3k-5k. Same colors, white exterior, red interior. Love it! Don't regret buying it. Probably worth around 22k today.
Nothing special no chrome bumpers😮
It’s all ads hard to watch !!
Can't stand when a car just sits and rots away. Way to expensive. Yikes.
At least cover the corvette… crazy
So cool that Dave Letterman found a retirement job.
Wow, awkward cut into the Hagerty ad.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Sad. If you know you're never going to do anything with it, pass it on to someone who will. Holding on to stuff just to hold on to it is ridiculous. Thanks for the episode, regardless! ✌️❤️🙂🇨🇦
3 in video ads, Hagerty? C’mon, man!
if you want a real barn find come south ga
Sooo many adverts! So disappointing.
That vet is a #5 car.
Make America 🇺🇸 V8 AGAIN
Thats so good imma use that
@@erichl1167 lol that's where it's headed.....
Episode starts at 5:23. Just forget about the Corvette segment. 🤮
Corvettes are sports cars, which are 2 seats. Muscle cars are at least 5 seaters. 👍
That Corvette is a Piece of Crap ...
A Sunbeam Tiger is a 100.000$ car now right? So there is probably a 50k$ profit in that. Would be cool with a Ford Racing 289 and lots of beautiful wood veneer. We Europeans did what we did far better than you Yanks, design and small sports cars, combined with what you Yanks did better than anyone, reliable v8 engines with good power, it becomes the best of both worlds. 400whp in this would make it a weapon, probably a deadly weapon in the wrong hands....
God bless and lots of love from Norway.
