regarding Palworld using AI: The AI needed to do the things people claim it did? It Didn't Exist when PocketPair first started showing off the game elements in question. Also, There's a video floating around by a US copyright lawyer who played the game and generally concluded that under US law (not actually relevant, Japanese law is the relevant bit) there's no infringment. Oh, and the CEO of PocketPair, at least, has said that they specifically got appropriate legal council to make absolutely sure they weren't actually going to get in legal trouble.
Exactly and the announcement trailer was released almost 3 years ago in June of 2021. If they actually stole intellectual property, Nintendo would be in Pocket Pair's Ass before June ended. It's only now when the game got released and received massive praise that Twitter freaks and Ark/Pokemon fanatics started crying and throwing temper tantrums saying the praise was "undeserved"
@@luisiana1121 To a point yeah, but if it was to become an actual somewhat big lawsuit, which I feel like wont happen at this point, they would have to wait until it released to be able to get 'proof' of there being theft etc. It is also very relevant to how popular it would get. Had it released and flopped, while Nintendo is crazy with jumping on legal threats with even small fan projects (which I think most of them are probably because they use the pokemon name and look very good so nintendo gets salty, even if its entirely free and non profit), the chance of legal action would be way lower if it had flopped versus the success it has gotten. 'excusing' the hate purely on crying and throwing temper tantrums feels kind of bad faith. Of course it's only getting the discourse purely because of the amount of the success it got, had it flopped and gotten negative reviews nobody would've cared. There are definetely many people who doesn't genuinely care about it and only act like they do because its topical and a lot of people are talking about it, but that doesn't mean that nobody has valid critque and concerns about it. In the end to me it looks incredibly lazy and a lot of the games feels incredibly copied without any love to it, do I think theres case for a lawsuit? maybe but idk im not a lawyer, do I care about nintendo? not really, fuck those guys, they tend to make many cool games but as a company they're assholes. It just doesn't interest me and thus I won't buy it, if you enjoy it then hell yeah, happy you're having fun
@@torrix4593 when did I excuse the hate? I only said my observations on how weird the fanatics and twitter freaks are crying and throwing tantrums almost 3 years later and not when the game got announced almost 3 years prior.
@@luisiana1121 I clearly wrote it as 'excusing' to show that it's not directly an excuse but boiling it down to that being the only reasing, which you again are doing.
I don't think that's an issue. There are so many quality fakemon artists that create amazing designs everyday. The Palworld devs intentionally designed their creatures too close to Pokemon designs to get the negative publicity. Disrespectful but a big dick move.
I’ve been listening to the Highlights for a while and decided to actually subscribe and download a full episode of their podcast. This episode was my “First” full podcast 😂 Did not expect the “How many kids could you fight?”
alright time for the hazbin hotel defense of swearing. its really two points 1. everyday awareness and 2 . media censorship. 1 since everyday most people hear more swears than sailors some dont even notice unless its a certain character or pointed out, for example alistor is an old timely radio host and as such refrains from swearing so when he does you know its a "big" thing 2. because cursing in American tv is reduced as much as possible hearing it in other places seems abnormal because theirs a HUGE emphasis on it for when it does happen in media, hearing it how its casually used is a almost uncanny feeling how your not used to it so it doesnt sit right
Playing Persona 3 is quite similar to Persona 4 with its gameplay, but I feel like it's a lot more streamlined & easy to get into. I remember that combining Personas in P4G was like damn rocket science, going between 10 different tabs. Here it's like 2-3 tabs. It's made so easy for you. Also the dungeon reset/teleport mechanic didn't confuse the shit out of me like P4G's dungeon mechanic did.
I think palworld is fine. The entire gaming industry at its core is copying and transforming the ideas of others, there was a time when shooters were called doomlikes, in spite of the fact of doom being a reskin of wolfenstein. DOTA being born as a warcraft mod and then league copying dota, Team Fortress starting as a half life mod before TF2 and then people said Overwatch was copying that, Terraria being called a minecraft clone, ARK being called a rust clone even though both of those are copying DayZ, it's all clones all the way down and palworld is just the latest target of faux outrage, because it's popular.
Just gonna throw this out there, Pal world is way more of a Ark copy then pokemon mechanically. Because ark even has the dino spheres that also work like that. Spheres are used for most monster catching games typically cause its a areodynamic object.
listening to joey compliment personas Ui just reminds me of my university lecturer who is a UI expert talking about how "bad" persona's UI is. Her main point was that it wasn't very efficient and hard to navigate, did not care about the style at all.
I'm honestly intrigued at why she thought it was inefficient? I can not say for p3R, however it never once felt awkward or weird navigating menus in Persona 5. In fact I'd say they perfectly nailed the balance between responsive and stylish. It seems to me like the opinion of someone who has only seen screenshots of the menus and judged it without once interacting with it, expecting boring and perfect alignments for "efficiency's" sake. I'm sure a website would need that but this is not a website, it's a videogame.
@@amasirat UI ideas differ between cultures. Western web UI assume the user is a moron, and give big arrows to the one spot they're supposed to click most often. Eastern web UI assumes the user is an expert at where's waldo and just dumps 4 dozen text links on screen and you have to pick out the one that is important without any hints. There might be a significant different in expectation of information density and paths to important things.
I have played some games with truly awful UI. Persona is not one of them. It may not be as informative as other games and leans towards style more so than function but never once did it feel bad or even just ok.

The interesting thing about Pal world is that the only reason Nintendo is looking into it, is because a bunch of their fans kept pestering them to look into it. They didn't care
I don’t think anything could ever be the “wake up call” Gamefreak needs, Pokémon is so gargantuan compared to any other modern media outlet that it’ll never feel pressured by anything that might be seen as such by the public. People having this conversation never stop to think, realistically speaking, how many sales or potential sales will this take from Pokémon? The thing is, pal world will probably get more people to play actual Pokémon, if for no other reason than just to bash it. Which is fine, Pokémon is a shell of what it once was, I just don’t think Pokémon will ever be overthrown at this point
1:44:40 actually, everything above three is easily done. During the time I was taking Aikido classes my teacher showed us how to defend oneself against huge crowds and three is ultimately the combo you have to be scared about, because everyone can come at you at once. Hazbin Hotel is a pretty good show, they just released their season finale. The show has a lot of charm and interesting world building especially if you watch the spin-off, Helluva Boss. Though the main issue is that it is quite fast-paced since there's only 8 episodes for the first season so it's not as fleshed-out. The music is pretty good, but it's understandable why it'd be hard to get into the show if you're not a musical person.
Yeah it's one of the shows that i didn't expect to like because i thought the characters would all be cringe and too quirky(in a bad way), but surprisingly a lot of the characters were pretty interesting and well-written. Would i recommend it to any other person, not really because as grant said in the episode he's not the target audience. So most likely I'd recommend it to people who likes the overall vibe of the show. Also I don't think it's fast paced personally, I feel like the worldbuilding is so big and there's so much more to the world(including major characters not introduced yet) that we've barely scratched the surface.
Everyone know that the balance is the right answer. Is AI good or bad is how it being used, just because calculator exist doesn't mean accountants disappear. I made my content drawing anime now in the next mouth I graduated and finally becoming programmer. since animators and digital designer is being pushed really hard in today industry, AI could help to generate, artist can review and quality controller if the AI making is unbaked, just like most remaster or remake use machine learning (AI) to upscaled low resolution models. So that mean AI can be bad but also can be good, it's just matter how you use it.
You guys need to try watching a movie at an Alamo Drafthouse in Austin. They serve food during the movie. Also should old movies and some special showings like all three lord of the rings movies with specially cooked themed meals
I’m happy that anime fans are being segmented. It feels like that means that it’s being treated like it actually is. Anime is a very diverse medium, and it’s actually being recognized instead of people just watching something because it’s anime.
The issue with the 8yo fight, in the same way that in a lot of ancient warfare, the best thing to do was make the enemy retreat, as that's where most deaths would occur. So I mean if you can deck a kid in a single hit, surely you'll make enough of them question their life choices.
@@jesseincognito. Potentially, though I think survival instinct is also generally a very strong force, for most people I at least imagine, stronger. Though to clarify looking back on my comment, doesn't mean infinite scaling, I just imagine the scaling would be to the point where 1 kid being decked would be visible to all other kids in the vicinity. A large enough grouping would negate that.
1:15:42 the whole argument of "plagirisim" is honestly terrible because there are SO MANY carbon copies of other games that you can argue that they're the same. Games i think of are windbound (which is like a mix of windwaker and BoTW), temtem (basically an online pokemon game), nexomon (another pokemon copy), code vein (anime dark souls), wild hearts (monster hunter copy). There are so many games that look/feel like other games because developers were inspired. So for people to be pissy about palworld being "plagirised" is an understatement
Thank you for such a level headed take on the Palworld stuff. People were so vitriolic on every side of the arguments. I've never had so many people tell me to kms over a litttle video game criticism. I'm a game dev and an artist and the whole controversy ended up so discouraging. And it's definitely not just twitter. TH-cam shorts has been the absolute most toxic platform for me personally. I even like Palworld but people are so quick to make assumptions.
Honestly for a game with so many sales, all I ever see online is people complaining about it and making bad assumptions; I never see ANYTHING positive about it. It’s just people complaining and being upset.
I don’t care much about the pals world controversy nor do I care much about Pokémon, but the one thing that annoys me is people going after Pokémon designs. Like you can go after Pokémon on anything else but their is a reason Pokémon is one of the most marketable franchises is existence and is because they know how to make a memorable design.

For me is fun af that they discuss about the 8 year olds, because between my friend group, whenever there is someone new or hanging out with different people, we tend to ask "how many waves of 5 children between 6 to 8 years of age can u take on in a fight to death" .
Does how enraged those kids are count as a factor?
I am a big advocate for appreciating how art is made! The sole fact that I know Disney animations, Cartoons and Anime are hand-drawn puts those shows above any other kind of show/series/film. AI art and at some point, animation, will never relieve this kind of love, at least not from me.

regarding Palworld using AI: The AI needed to do the things people claim it did? It Didn't Exist when PocketPair first started showing off the game elements in question.
Also, There's a video floating around by a US copyright lawyer who played the game and generally concluded that under US law (not actually relevant, Japanese law is the relevant bit) there's no infringment.
Oh, and the CEO of PocketPair, at least, has said that they specifically got appropriate legal council to make absolutely sure they weren't actually going to get in legal trouble.
Who cares about the legality honestly, the game is creatively bankrupt af (as is the company, christ just look up Craftopia).
I think Pokemon has created so many Pokemons that it's absolutely impossible to create a Pokemon-like creature without "copying" an already Pokemon.
I don't think that's an issue. There are so many quality fakemon artists that create amazing designs everyday. The Palworld devs intentionally designed their creatures too close to Pokemon designs to get the negative publicity. Disrespectful but a big dick move.

alright time for the hazbin hotel defense of swearing. its really two points 1. everyday awareness and 2 . media censorship.
1 since everyday most people hear more swears than sailors some dont even notice unless its a certain character or pointed out, for example alistor is an old timely radio host and as such refrains from swearing so when he does you know its a "big" thing
2. because cursing in American tv is reduced as much as possible hearing it in other places seems abnormal because theirs a HUGE emphasis on it for when it does happen in media, hearing it how its casually used is a almost uncanny feeling how your not used to it so it doesnt sit right

Connor going off in this episode!
He really had this locked up inside and let out all his views and opinions about games.
listening to joey compliment personas Ui just reminds me of my university lecturer who is a UI expert talking about how "bad" persona's UI is.
Is this lecturer’s focus on video games or general applications?
@@amasirat UI ideas differ between cultures. Western web UI assume the user is a moron, and give big arrows to the one spot they're supposed to click most often. Eastern web UI assumes the user is an expert at where's waldo and just dumps 4 dozen text links on screen and you have to pick out the one that is important without any hints. There might be a significant different in expectation of information density and paths to important things.
your lecturer should play persona 3 then, she might change her mind
I have played some games with truly awful UI. Persona is not one of them. It may not be as informative as other games and leans towards style more so than function but never once did it feel bad or even just ok.
As a Hazbin fan I'm honestly just surprised one of them had seen it.

Hi, speaking for the Hazbin Hotel community here. It’s cool that Grant wasn’t that interested in our show.
Thanks for giving it a chance though 👍🏻
I don’t think anything could ever be the “wake up call” Gamefreak needs, Pokémon is so gargantuan compared to any other modern media outlet that it’ll never feel pressured by anything that might be seen as such by the public. People having this conversation never stop to think, realistically speaking, how many sales or potential sales will this take from Pokémon? The thing is, pal world will probably get more people to play actual Pokémon, if for no other reason than just to bash it. Which is fine, Pokémon is a shell of what it once was, I just don’t think Pokémon will ever be overthrown at this point

Honestly for a game with so many sales, all I ever see online is people complaining about it and making bad assumptions; I never see ANYTHING positive about it. It’s just people complaining and being upset.
