Gotta be one of my favorite episodes of Trash Taste. I unironically found myself sync-laughing-leaning with the boys too many times. AND IM JUST 22 MINUTES IN.
About the traffic hidden rules... In Malaysia, there's one code about the front high lights. If you're on a highway, and there's a car on the opposite side flashed you twice (or thrice), slide into the slow lane and slow down. Because there's either: a) an accident ahead on your lane and you could ram into the back of a car, b) there's a police roadblock ahead.
Got really confused why during the Trash TV segment they showed a pic of Home and Away (the Australian TV show) then realised they were talking about the British TV show A Place in the Sun: Home or Away. 😅
I am a trucker in Texas and three blinks indicates that thank you. Two blinks is acceptable one blink just makes you think they're tapping their brake to slow down a little
Felix has so much less social anxiety now since becoming a dad, or maybe it was the move to Japan, he seems more sure of himself. Same thing happened to me when becoming a dad, I think I just stopped caring about what people were thinking
I think it's different depending on who's closer to the turn. In my experience, most of the time it means "go ahead and turn first." I do get the "let me go first" too though.
For the diving topic: what Connor says about decompression is correct, but the explanation is that breathing air from air tank in the high water pressure depths, you will have you high pressured bubbles in your blood. If you rise too fast, the bubbles expands inside your blood veesels, leading to serious internal injuries. So you need to come back to less pressure shallower depths to let your blood circulate and change for smaller air bubbles for a set time. (sounds like Made in Abyss when I first learn diving too)
35:01 Paying tolls in New Zealand is exactly like the UK but it says you have 5 days to pay them if you haven't already, or you can also pay for them in advance. Usually you can pay online on the government website but you use to be able to pay for the tolls before the toll tunnel/road using these atm looking things. However, they got rid of them (at least the one near me). The only reason why they have tolls is due to paying off the land they had to buy or to pay for the construction/materials.
Best part of this episode is Felix patiently putting up with the guys having absolutely no idea of the logistics of small children and just going with nodding politely lol
10:55 FR though, there's a reason why most asian families are pretty tight knit, grandparents or aunts/uncles take care of the baby/kids sometimes, and if there's many kids the older children take up the slack. Like this Cousins grow up pretty close even distant ones, ie. one day you're at one aunty's house the next at a different one.
36:19 In my country we are getting rid of the tolls with gates, and replacing it with cameras that scan a little tag that you stick to you car, you don't need to slow down, they just put cameras under bridges and you just go
Felix is right. Doing a good thing even if you don’t want to means you are nicer. If you help people because you like helping people, you are just doing it for your own selfish reason. It’s because YOU like it. If you do it even if you don’t like it, then you are not doing it for yourself but for them, which is what a good person will do. The same way that being courageous is not about having no fear and moving forward. It’s about having fear and still moving forward. It’s about fighting the perceived danger, the fear. Having no fear simply mean you don’t see the danger so you keep moving forward not because you are courageous but because you are fearless about the potential (or not potential) danger.
To make my point clearer, you can both like to help people and also be a good person but your goodness is not measured by you helping others when you help others because you like it, for your own sake. If you just like helping people and someone tells you that he doesn’t want your help, helping him would be a bad deed. I know someone who will just always try to do too much to help people only because she likes helping and can’t resist the urge to help. Then it depends on which kind of help the person need and sometimes you should help the person anyway but that’s a particular situation. A good way to know if someone is a good person is for example, if someone is in a relationship and cheats on his/her partner. If you cheat on your partner, it’s because you want it and you know it will hurt your partner’s sentiment but you do it anyway. If you don’t do it and you’ve got the opportunity to do so and you would like to but won’t not to hurt your partner, then you are a good person. Pretty basic example but you get the point. Then it’s more complicated than that to be a good person and it’s not a black or white situation. It’s the accumulation of every one of your actions that makes you a better or worst person and at a certain point, you can consider yourself a good person I guess but at which point exactly you become a good person is unclear
24:40 pretty similar to the states, but we flash our lights (not hazards) to let others know to go ahead, warn of police, or thank them. At least I see it when I lived in the southern states. In Japan, I have seen the hazard light flash, but didn't know there was some sort of code depending on the number of blinks.

Got some sushi, just sitting and watching this podcast, Pewds is back... Life is good
Felix is right.
