  • Dr. Frank Turek is back at The Babylon Bee to talk about how the embarrassing parts of the Bible are actually evidence that the Bible is really the Word of God. Frank also talks about common questions and objections that college students typically have and how he handles them as a Christian apologist. In the full-length ad-free subscriber podcast, Frank talks about Calvinism and whether it makes God the author of evil and makes all of us humans just moist robots.

      Same! I grew up in a non-religious home and was an atheist for years, very anti-theistic, really. In January 2019 I became a Christian after questioning my worldview and looking at evidence for different views. Christianity stood out as authentic, and after converting I found both Frank and Ray Comfort to be helpful in understanding more of the Christian life and theology.

    I was at an apologetics conference a few years ago. I was early waiting around and this guy I didn't know walks up and says hi and was really friendly. I was surprised to see that guy was the keynote speaker later in the night. That was Frank Turek. He's the real deal.

    “He was despised and rejected- a man of sorrows, acquainted with deepest grief. We turned our backs on him and looked the other way. He was despised, and we did not care. Yet it was our weaknesses he carried; it was our sorrows that weighed him down. And we thought his troubles were a punishment from God, a punishment for his own sins! But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed. All of us, like sheep, have strayed away. We have left God’s paths to follow our own. Yet the Lord laid on him the sins of us all. He was oppressed and treated harshly, yet he never said a word. He was led like a lamb to the slaughter. And as a sheep is silent before the shearers, he did not open his mouth. Unjustly condemned, he was led away. No one cared that he died without descendants, that his life was cut short in midstream. But he was struck down for the rebellion of my people. He had done no wrong and had never deceived anyone. But he was buried like a criminal; he was put in a rich man’s grave. But it was the Lord’s good plan to crush him and cause him grief. Yet when his life is made an offering for sin, he will have many descendants. He will enjoy a long life, and the Lord’s good plan will prosper in his hands. When he sees all that is accomplished by his anguish, he will be satisfied. And because of his experience, my righteous servant will make it possible for many to be counted righteous, for he will bear all their sins. I will give him the honors of a victorious soldier, because he exposed himself to death. He was counted among the rebels. He bore the sins of many and interceded for rebels.”
    ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭53:3-12‬ ‭NLT‬‬
    "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16
    God loves you so much and showed that by sending His Son to die for us so that we may inherit eternal life. We deserve hell but He gave us heaven through faith in Jesus. He took the punishment we deserved and by putting our faith in Him we can be saved. The Key To Eternal Life:

      Don’t repeat that you have no strength to stand against it. Instead, realize you’re not the one that has to stand against it, James 4 says submit to Christ (give this issue to him), resist the Devil, and it’s a promise he will flee. How? Draw near to God, and it is a promise that God will draw near to you. Let Jesus have this issue on the cross, praise God that it is him and not you who has the strength to carry you through. Turn your back on the Devil, repent of your sins, rebuke your sins and the Devil too, and turn to the goodness of God. God is always good. Even when times are hard. I was just singing it is well, look up that song and try to get to a place where you can sing it. 💕 at one point in my life I was in excruciating pain, relationships were also falling apart, I felt so alone but I realized I wasn’t alone and I started to praise God for the pain, The paint in instantly go away, but God brought me into miraculous restorations of relationships and closure to others. God is good. We can praise him through the pain and ask him to reveal to us the purpose and plan that we can submit to.

      Isaiah 43 ESV
      43 But now thus says the Lord,
      he who created you, O Jacob,
      he who formed you, O Israel:
      “Fear not, for I have redeemed you;
      I have called you by name, you are mine.
      2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
      and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you;
      when you walk through fire you shall not be burned,
      and the flame shall not consume you.
      3 For I am the Lord your God,
      the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.
      I give Egypt as your ransom,
      Cush and Seba in exchange for you.
      4 Because you are precious in my eyes,
      and honored, and I love you,
      I give men in return for you,
      peoples in exchange for your life.
      5 Fear not, for I am with you;
      I will bring your offspring from the east,
      and from the west I will gather you.
      6 I will say to the north, Give up,
      and to the south, Do not withhold;
      bring my sons from afar
      and my daughters from the end of the earth,
      7 everyone who is called by my name,
      whom I created for my glory,
      whom I formed and made.”
      8 Bring out the people who are blind, yet have eyes,
      who are deaf, yet have ears!
      9 All the nations gather together,
      and the peoples assemble.
      Who among them can declare this,
      and show us the former things?
      Let them bring their witnesses to prove them right,
      and let them hear and say, It is true.
      10 “You are my witnesses,” declares the Lord,
      “and my servant whom I have chosen,
      that you may know and believe me
      and understand that I am he.
      Before me no god was formed,
      nor shall there be any after me.
      11 I, I am the Lord,
      and besides me there is no savior.
      12 I declared and saved and proclaimed,
      when there was no strange god among you;
      and you are my witnesses,” declares the Lord, “and I am God.
      13 Also henceforth I am he;
      there is none who can deliver from my hand;
      I work, and who can turn it back?”
      14 Thus says the Lord,
      your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel:
      “For your sake I send to Babylon
      and bring them all down as fugitives,
      even the Chaldeans, in the ships in which they rejoice.
      15 I am the Lord, your Holy One,
      the Creator of Israel, your King.”
      16 Thus says the Lord,
      who makes a way in the sea,
      a path in the mighty waters,
      17 who brings forth chariot and horse,
      army and warrior;
      they lie down, they cannot rise,
      they are extinguished, quenched like a wick:
      18 “Remember not the former things,
      nor consider the things of old.
      19 Behold, I am doing a new thing;
      now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?
      I will make a way in the wilderness
      and rivers in the desert.
      20 The wild beasts will honor me,
      the jackals and the ostriches,
      for I give water in the wilderness,
      rivers in the desert,
      to give drink to my chosen people,
      21 the people whom I formed for myself
      that they might declare my praise.
      22 “Yet you did not call upon me, O Jacob;
      but you have been weary of me, O Israel!
      23 You have not brought me your sheep for burnt offerings,
      or honored me with your sacrifices.
      I have not burdened you with offerings,
      or wearied you with frankincense.
      24 You have not bought me sweet cane with money,
      or satisfied me with the fat of your sacrifices.
      But you have burdened me with your sins;
      you have wearied me with your iniquities.
      25 “I, I am he
      who blots out your transgressions for my own sake,
      and I will not remember your sins.
      26 Put me in remembrance; let us argue together;
      set forth your case, that you may be proved right.
      27 Your first father sinned,
      and your mediators transgressed against me.
      28 Therefore I will profane the princes of the sanctuary,
      and deliver Jacob to utter destruction
      and Israel to reviling.

      There’s a (not Christian) channel called HealthyGamer GG. He’s a therapist who helps people learn why they’re stuck in destructive patterns, habits, and addiction. He doesn’t look at it from a spiritual perspective, at least not Christian, but there is still a lot of good advice and good questions to help. There are also *so* many channels by Christian creators who talk about this as well, with a less psychiatric outlook though. Both of those aspects are important. Yes, the enemy can provide temptations, but ultimately he can’t get into your mind, so a lot of problems we have are just our fallen nature. We desire things and need to reign it in. Through therapy (preferably with a Christian therapist) we can see addictions be beat and breakthrough in behavioral patterns :) I’ll he praying for you.

The father has the genetic makup that creates the blood while the baby forms in the womb and the mother has nothing to do with it. Hence the Virgin birth of Jesus. The blood wasn't passed from man but by God the father making Jesus ( God the son ) the only human to ever be able to live perfect from day one.

    Additionally....having been atheist and now Christian it strikes me the inter-faith squabbles are all nonsense. There are bigger epistemological differences between Calvinists and non-Calvinists than between Mormons and the average Christian. So my guess is they will all be saved by Christ just like most Catholics, most Reformed, most everyone who tries to follow Christ. It's clear no one has all the answers so its also clear the only answer that matters is that you believe in Jesus and accept Him as your savior.

    imagine seeing an ancient tome written and revised over 100s of years under pseudonyms and coming to these conclusions. why did the apostles not want to embarrass themselves?
    probably because they dead centuries before anyone ever gave a shit about these documents. people want to treat the bible like a historical document, like an autobiography of the vietnam war, failing to realize that the objective stances we take are a product of the enlightenment.
    he'd never do this, but i'd like to see frank turek use the same line of apologetics about any other myth. do the oddesy, frank. do the embarrasing parts of the oddesy prove the existence of the greek pantheon? since we're using myths as historical sources, let's apply that epistemology on a universal basis. what about the embarrassing parts of the qu'ran? why would they want to kill infidels? it must be because they were telling the truth.

    • @CapnCoconuts
      @CapnCoconuts ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm willing to accept that the "embarrassing parts" argument is a fallacy. However:
      1) Saying the bible is "revised over 100s of years" is an unsubstantiated claim and I find rather insulting to ancient copyists. It was written again and again because papyrus typically does not last for 100s of years, especially if it is well used.
      2) Claiming they were "dead centuries before" anyone cared about their documents ignores the entire history of early Christianity and the fact that many of the New Testament books were written to early churches. People didn't magically care about the books the moment the Council of Laodicea commenced.
      3) People are willing to treat the Bible as a historical document because a) many of the New Testament writers claimed to be witnesses and b) the Principle of Charity, which you seem to lack entirely. That alone doesn't make it history, but it does mean it ought to be taken seriously. Cold case detective and ex-atheist J. Warner Wallace did exactly that, without any emotional baggage, desire for heaven, fear of hell, or even feeling the God-shaped void in his soul. Frankly, I find him to be a more credible source of information than you.
      4) "objective stances we take are a product of the enlightenment" reeks of chronological snobbery. New ideas are not intrinsically better. And besides, the materialistic worldview you presumably hold fails to account for human consciousness, free will, morality, and even the origin of the universe. The Standard Cosmological Model is all well and good except the part where everything comes from nothing. Your intellectuals' attempts to solve these problems redefine them or contradict themselves--if they don't ignore the problem entirely. When they do reluctantly accept things like an free will or an objective moral standard, it's treated as a brute fact of the universe they don't bother to think too much about--because the only valid answer to them is outside the realm of physics.
      5) Skeptics say and believe hysterical crap all the time, often because they are grasping at straws to avoid even the slightest possibility of a Creator existing. There is no evidence to support Multiverse Theory or Cyclic models. Subjective and relative morals can be used to validate Hitler and his Nazi Germany. You try to disprove God with the problem of evil when your real problem is where you stole the concept of evil from. You people can't even create new life intentionally, and you believe it happened by accident. You're no better than any ignorant heathen praying to the Sun.

      @@CapnCoconuts wow thanks for your reply. i will try to answer it as well as i can, here goes.
      1. saying the bible was revised over 100s of years is a historical fact. the old testament were stories told for likely thousands of years by jews in egypt before they were written down. the bible wasn't publshed and made cannon until the 100 ADs, which by definition, is a century after the alleged death of jesus. Even then, the translations had to be made which happened over thousands of years as the academic languages changed from aramaic, to greek, to latin, to english. so yeah, i'm right about that.
      2. ok let me put it like this: they were dead long before large portions of the world cared about these documents. it started with 12 guys, so the story goes, and then it was practiced by all of europe. that didn't happen overnight.
      3. i give charity when it's earned, but if you take the bible to be history you also have to take every other text written around that time as history. this includes the pagan texts, and texts from asia which never touched the bible. i'm not willing to do that, so therefore i treat them all as myths. i do take them seriously, but that doesn't mean they're historical.
      4. ok so now you're just assuming i believe things i don't. chronological snobbery? no son. just the history of ideas. people didn't have that objective materialist worldview you blindly assume that i subscribe to until descartes. i don't subscribe to it by the way. i'm not a follower of scientism, i actually have very nuanced and original views on everything you went into there. if you want to know what they are, i can tell you, but don't assume that i'm some reddit atheist just because i don't agree with you about the bible. also stop invoking the god of the gaps. just because people don't know a thing doesn't mean god is hiding there. that relegates your god to a shrinking territory of mystery in the process of being illuminated.
      5. once again, god of the gaps. "i don't know something, therefore, god." that is the sign of a weak mind. and while i don't pray to the sun, i do acknowledge that the sun exists and has symbolic power in the collective unconscious. also, don't call sun worshipers ignorant. egyptians are the only reason that judaism ever got off the ground, so really, you owe them your existance as a christian.

      @@notloki3377 1) a) It is not a historical fact, and if it was, your entire paragraph trying to "prove" it is pure nonsensical drivel.
      b) It is impossible for any book in the Old Testament outside of Genesis and Job to be stories told in Egypt. All the others, from the historical writings to poetry to prophetic books, take place after Egypt.
      c) The Bible wasn't formally canonized as 66 books until the Council of Laodicea, in AD 364. Your argument might have some actual integrity if you actually knew history and actually knew what you were talking about. It's as if you are desperately trying to bluff your way through this. Are you trolling?
      d) Most Bible translations are directly translated from the original languages--Hebrew and bits of Aramaic in the Old Testament, Koine Greek in the New Testament. I should know: I've actually studied Greek. Only Catholics bother to take Latin seriously. The Old Testament was translated into the Greek Septuagint, but no serious translation is based on the Septuagint. The apparent implication that the Bible was translated through these languages in sequence is hogwash.
      2) This paragraph is moving the goalposts, therefore I will not dignify it with a thought out response. Next.
      3) That's like arguing that to believe one witness in a criminal case you must believe every other witness in that criminal case, regardless of how much their testimonies clash with one another. A worthless argument.
      4) a) Yes, you are a chronological snob, and your appeal to the "history of facts" only cements my accusation.
      b) If your oh-so nunaced worldview was worth sharing to refute the arguments I made, I imagine you would have done so already. I can't imagine you having that worldview, however, because your view on history You would have done that instead of whining about God of the Gaps. Speaking of which:
      c) The "God of the Gaps" accusation is circular reasoning and therefore nonsense. You would only make the argument if you presupposed the supernatural did not exist and that science could explain everything. The only reason you're using it to shut down any inconvenient argument that something supernatural might exist. It's to make Your presupposition is your conclusion.
      d) Only materialistic, scientismic, reddit brained atheists would bother with God of the Gaps. You're not very good at this trolling thing, are you?
      5) God of the Gaps is pure cope and seethe. You have no right to accuse me of a weak mind when you're turning your own brain off with that thought terminating cliché. It's no more than a convenient way to avoid thinking about things you don't like. Is it because you're an arrogant swine, or is it because the thought of a Supreme Being existing unnerves you?
      Maybe it's because you're trolling. I'm only bothering to write on the chance someone might actually believe you. Maybe you should stop, and do something productive with your life for once. But if you insist on trolling TH-cam comments, may I suggest you try harder? It might work for a while longer if you try posting something that isn't complete garbage.

    BabylonBee, as a life long "Mormon" let's clear some things up. 1st Mormon/Mormons is not what our religion is called, it is slang that we have accepted. The name of our Church is The Church of Jesus Christ of Ladder day Saints.
    2nd We do believe that Joseph Smith is a prophet, but more than that he is the dispensation head of this dispensation and a Seer. I would encourage you to read his account his account of the First Vision. Ironically much of what he wrote about himself would not have been included because it is so embarrassing for him personally, just as what you are discussing today. Even more Ironic is he gave his life for this message, and gospel, he wouldn't have done it if it weren't true.
    3rd The thing that separates our faith from the others is proper authority to perform in the priesthood.
    4th It sounds like you have never read the Book of Mormon, in a nutshell it is a record of the Events that happened here in the America's, while the Bible happened in the middle East. Just read it would be my advice, and pray to know the truthfulness thereof.

      Just asking.

      @MKL The best advice to build faith, is diligently study the scriptures, and pray to God. I am not going to try to convince you of the truthfulness of any religion over this medium.
      As far as "Having your own planet" that statement can be fairly daunting without some context and understanding. At the end of Matthew 5 verse 48 Jesus says "Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect."
      Which is to say to become like God, eventually, see we don't believe our Eternal journey started at Birth or that it ends at Death. The above mentioned statement is a long ways down the road even after death.
      Now this next reference is from The Pearl of Great Price the Book of Moses verse 33 And worlds without number have I created; and I also created them for mine own purpose; and by the Son I created them, which is mine Only Begotten. I know Christians that aren't Mormon don't believe in the Book of Mormon, Pearl of Great Price and Doctrine and Covenants, but now you can see why we believe what we do. If we are commanded to become like God and he has created many worlds then it follows that we would eventually do the same. A question to conclude, If God is the same yesterday, today and forever, why wouldn't there be more scripture, and a Prophet in the last days? A Bible!? A Bible!? We have a bible and need no more Bible. 2 Nephi Verse 29 By the way MKL this is just a friendly discussion for me, as far as I am concerned any religion, Faith is better then none.

      @@mkl2237 I find this argument really weird. Literally the only way you can know Jesus is the Christ is by the Holy Ghost. You cannot be argued into knowing Jesus is Christ. Paul says as much. I know Jesus is the Christ because God told me- however you want to describe that and almost all Christians will express a similar time. We all know Jesus is Lord because God told us. In our thoughts, in our heart, somehow. Mormons are basically saying the same thing - it is the most natural thing in the world for us to understand what they are saying.
