Incredible job, excellent. It goes to show how a quality pair of shoes can look with some TLC. I have a pair of well worn John Lobb boots coming your way soon, but they’re waxed suede, so they won’t look quite as impressive as those Church’s I’m sure.
I get the impression that people often think they need a commando sole because they're finding the shoe a bit slippery but in an urban environment I've found changing the heel to an all rubber heel solves many of the slipping problems. I have had the half leather heels on leather soled shoes replaced with full rubber many times and it transforms how the shoe feels in the wet even though the rest of the sole is all leather. I've never really understood why these "City soles" still leave the heel half leather. Especially because towns and cities and commuting is usually the worst place when wet with worn smooth steps, shiny tiles in stations etc.
Well said....you are spot on. Lots of customers have the heel changed from leather or plastic or even super hard rubber to soft rubber. The heel goes down first and gives you the confidence of a stable and secure shoe.
Being french I can tell Reno’mat should be pronounced as you did in the first instance, the T should be heard. I guess its the contraction of Renovation and Mat. Mat being the matte state of the leather. Mât without the T pronounced and with a circumflex accent on the A stands for a boat mast.
Wow! My mouth literally dropped open at the final shot! Well done! Did you end up building up the outside edge of heels to compensate for how the customer wears down the shoe?
Hello again, nice video. I am the commenter who asked about stitching vs. glue, a few days ago. I have a different question for you this freezing, cold day today. My experience with quality shoes with commando soles (not Trickers prices, but still hand-made quality), is that the uppers are badly worn by the time the commando soles are worn out. Are the uppers restorable, or does there come a point when you simply replace the shoes? Have a good day. I hope you choose not to retire 😀
Hello abbeyclock, Thank you for your interest again.....we find the complete reverse 😀... The leather uppers can last forever if you look after them correctly. Honestly, a bit of cream and not too much polish and 30+ years is easily achievable. Now we do see some fashion shoes that have big chunky soles and would make you believe that they are going to last for years, but ALL fashion shoes are made with a time scale in mind and all the components should be coming to an end at the same time. We rarely see a fashion shoe that still has great uppers once the soles have worn out. And vice versa. Again, this would make a good video. Antony
I pushed the boat out and bought a pair of discounted Trickers brogues which I love. They have a danite sole. The heel on all my shoes ware down on one side eventually. Can a metal seg? be added to the rubber heel when the time comes and just on the one side of the heel that has worn down? Many Thanks.
Yes everyone’s goes like that, you could do that when it’s worn down, or you can just get a new Dainite heel rubber fitted for about £30 as long as you catch it before it gets to the leather
😱 A Commando sole on a single Monk what ever next!
Good sense prevailed and a lovely repair and refinish.

Happy new year to the Shoe Healer team.
Very good choice on the dainite sole - commando would have been a bit OTT IMO! Great vid.
Thanks, yes, don’t think the commando would have suited this one.
A really nice job done. Good choice, not going with the commando sole.
Thank you, agreed, I don’t think it would have suited this one.
Safir Hermes Cream would look Gorgeous on these.
Yes it would

Yes we slightly angled it over to level him back up.
Love your videos! Better than Emmerdale 🤗
Not sure if that’s a compliment or not 🤔😂 Thank you 🙏

@@shoehealer8853 Thanks for the advice. I was thinking maybe prevention rather than cure but your suggestion is obviously more professional. cheers.
