In this video, I show you how "I" rebuild the shocks on the T-Maxx. there are a number of ways to rebuild, fill, and bleed a shock, but this is how it's worked well for me for years. If you are running a bladder in the shock cap, doing it this way will prove to be good every time after some practice.
If I can get my hands on some shocks that do not have a bladder in them, I will do another video on how to bleed them. Associated seals will go in from the shock body, and not from the under side like the Traxxas shocks. Again, most shocks are going to be different, but this is what I have found to work best on these shocks.
If at any time you need help with anything, you can always find me on my website, www.Rc-Help.com. It's free to join, and there is a load of information at your fingertips on that forum. Come over and join us! We have a lot in store for 2012!

Hey Tony, I just recently purchased a used T-Maxx 2.5 from a friend and I'm trying to get everything into spec. I've got it running for the most part. I took it all apart and cleaned everything up but I'm still unsure about the suspension health. When the truck is compressed it rebounds maybe half way up. I've looked but I can't find if this is normal operation or if there is an issue and they need to be rebuilt. Look forward to hearing from you. Thanks

Using the bladders makes it much easier to set the shock up. I suggest using them.

That doesn't look right. My shock is slightly hard to push in and extends quickly like a real shock absorber. Without the coil

When running the bladders it should not be hard to push in at all. These are not automotive shocks and are not under pressure like automotive shocks. Everyone has a different method of setting up their shocks. I have been doing mine for over 20 years like this and have had great success in doing so. To each their own in how they setup their shocks, if it works for you, keep doing it. www.Rc-Help.com

RcHelpDotCom you are right I think I had a few too many drops of oil in mine. Now they feel more like a dampener. Thanks for your videos they help me allot, I'm new to this hobby

@@johnn2146 No problem John. There are some people that like to, what I consider, over fill their shocks so they act like a bump stop and keep the truck from bottoming out (or car). But to do this, you need a very strong shock body and very strong cap with really good threads. It's more likely to blow the cap out or even the seals with it over filled. I have also done this in oval racing on the right rear to keep the rear end up when coming out of a corner as part of the stagger. But most times, I just fill them where either the shaft stays where I put it, or pushed out about 1/4" when fully pushed in. And welcome to the hobby, It's a lot of fun. Be sure to check out the new series we are shooting right now. If you have a T-Maxx, it's a great series to get you started. th-cam.com/video/hmbG_RkHLbY/w-d-xo.html

@@johnn2146 You not going to overfill the shocks, you fill them all the way to the top, that bump stop scenario is not from overfilling. If you don't place the shock piston up at the top of the stroke when putting the cap on, you won't get the full stroke on the shock and will actually lock up/or stop travelling towards the top of the stroke if done incorrectly and can result in a bent shock shaft .... John you have the proper method of replacing the shock fluid and your probably talking about the little bit of positive resistance coming from the pressure inside the shock like a real auto shock, and generally is not enough to cause the cap to come off like if you were to improperly fill the shock with oil and leave the piston all the way down when placing the cap back on the shock. The shock will not compress all the way and in that case your would loose a shock cap for sure or a bent shaft... Happy Trails ....
