I think Dominic is such an underrated drummer. Has a unique style, definitely self taught in my opinion but I think that adds to his style and 'charm'! He is not a modern day TH-cam drummer where he has 'chops' but some of the stuff he has produced over the years is unbelievable! When the band only consists of 3 people you need to be a big hitter and he certainly is! There are so many good Muse songs and some of the drum patterns that Dominic has done on some songs are very inspiring and technically very good. Check out songs such as Stockholm Syndrome where he uses a great pattern on the toms, a song called Assassin where he brings out the Bonham triplets and even older songs such as something like Screenager where he uses a Glockenspiel...! Great review and good to see him getting the recognition he fully deserves!

There's actually an unofficial fourth member called Morgan, he plays the electro/synth stuff and plays guitar for some of their songs.

@@owenbenjaminshapiro6285 just googled it actually and yes he is self taught. You can tell he is. Self taught drummers have a certain style. I myself am a self taught drummer so I know one when i see one!

@@robdolman17, hehe. I'm sure he is. But the sentence "definitely self taught in my opinion" doesn't make sense. It's a contradiction. Either he is definitely self taught or he definitely isn't. Your opinion only matters in what ice cream is best or what Muse album is best, not factual information :)

Dom reminds me a lot of Bonham, he plays with a lot of swing. Very underrated. A great rhythm section.

My drum teacher taught Dominic! He tells me that Dominic was a great drummer and learnt the songs very easily, used a lot of swing - probably because my drum teacher plays in a jazz band and always loves to teach me jazz (doing around grade 7-8 stuff). I still can’t believe my drum teacher taught Dominic Howard, THE Dominic Howard - it’s just crazy.

The first time I watched Hullabaloo, not knowing much about Muse except their reputation, it took me about a half dozen songs to realize there wasn't a rhythm guitarist. I attribute that equally in part to both Mathew Bellamy's talent and the heinous, rapid cut video editing. It's a superb concert, regardless of the butchered footage, and I've become quite the fan since that introduction years ago. Definitely one of the premier acts in the world, both in compositional talent and musical execution.

This brought a smile to my face! Dom's one of my favorite drummers. He's got incredible groove-he really feels what he's playing-and the best fills of any drummer I know. Oh, and as a drummer of 15 years, your American vs British drumming analysis was spot-on. Muse's influences include Nirvana, Deftones, Smashing Pumpkins, and Rage Against the Machine, among other heavy-hitting bands.
Please review more Muse! Especially newer Muse where his technique has improved.

Mixing classical music and rock still imo hasnt been replicated this well since, And to think they are a trio is crazy! 100% recommend seeing these guys live, best live band in the world, thank you so much for sharing this video, made my day!

omg i totally get what you're saying about british vs american drummer style 😭 even tho i have no musical background whatsoever but I can tell the difference from hearing both band in each region. I'm used to listen to american band a lot until I discovered british band which I like that flimsy drum style lol. I didn't realised how much dom put force into his drum until I watch this fancam of psycho, the way he hit that drum is like he's about to smash it but the drum is still in good condition 💀 if I'm not mistaken around simulation theory era, he used his arms a lot instead of wrist bcos i read that he 'injured' his wrist and want to recover from playing for many years. but this time he plays with his wrist again. idk what it is about dominic but his drum style is really my type. can't describe with words cuz I'm not musically trained. but you said it well!!

I think you have to react to Paulina Villarreal from The Warning, she is an amazing drummer.
I think you should analyze her performance in (Dust to Dust live at lunario), not because it is the most complicated song by The Warning on the drums but also because she sings this song while playing, which makes the task more difficult.
And by the way she is only 18 years old and most of The Warning's songs, she was the one who started writing.
