  • Let’s walk through a day of doing Elimination Communication with a newborn baby.
    Maybe you are pregnant and are considering elimination communication, but just can't picture what your routine might look like. Not to worry! I've practiced EC with five babies from birth, and I am going to let you know what to expect.
    This is the first in a three-part series where I’ll share what a typical day of EC in my household looks like...newborn, mobile, and toddler. Consider it a peek into our home!

    This is a wonderful video! I'm a first time mom to be, expecting in June. I've been researching cloth diapers and other poop related topics on yt and found you. EC seems so easy after hearing this video! It makes so much sense to me to be diaper free! I live and work with animals and I was always asking myself how did we get into diapers anyway... we (the western people) make so much fuss about natural processes!
    I've been through a few dog and cat litters and I never had to clean. I traind 3 puppies in my home and had close to zero pees and poops inside. I also rarely have to clean cats' litter box because they just ask to get out of the house when the have to go.
    I was super afaraid even thinking about EC with my baby. But after this video I'm so confident I can start with my newborn when she comes ❤ Some moms are mad when I compare children with animals, but... I'm a dog trainer. And basically everything you said works with puppies. My clients train their puppies to alert them when they have to go and after about a month the puppy will learn that. Until then you just have to give them an opportunity to go out at the right time. The principle is the same. You just have to observe, play and know the natural rithm - puppy will also pee just after waking up and poop some time after meal. I also tell my clients to use a specific word or a sound when the dog does number one or number two. It's sooo much easier when you have just a few minutes with you dog or when it's freezing outside 🥶 and you just tell them to go and they will go in a minute or two 🤭
    I know it goes much faster with animals because the grow up much faster. Also... I don't plan to eat my newborn's poop like dogs and cats do 😆 so I'm going with flats, prefolds and wool covers and, after hearing you, DEFINITELY with EC!
    Thank you for making it all so simple! 🙏
    I do have a question, thow...
    I live on a small ranch and since my baby comes in the summer time I think I'll do a lot of diaper free time outside. Is it ok to offer the nature instead of a potty? I would think she will connect the position and the sound with peeing and pooping, not necessarily the place...

      Yes, you can absolutely pee them in nature!
      Thank you for sharing your story about working with animals, it seems like you will have great success in EC, especially with all the success you have had with the animals.
      Congrats on your pregnancy!! 🎉
      You are gonna love EC! 😍

    Great podcast, thanks! I bought your book! Can you just use the psst cue or do you really need two cue’s?

    • @AndreaOlson
      @AndreaOlson  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can just use the psst cues. Sometimes when I know my little one needs to poop I will make the “mm mm” sound just to assist, but it is not necessary. 🙂
      Thank for buying my book, and yay to getting started!!

    I am 15 years old and want to have children when I grow up. I think elimination communication sounds great, and I want to know a few things to watch out for.

      @@AndreaOlson What I want to know is a few things I should and should not try. For example, should I let my baby use a cat's litter box to avoid having to change his or her diaper? Should I give my girlfriend/fiancee the secret to elimination communication before our marriage? One thing's for sure-I should definitely have my baby use the potty before I take him or her anywhere.

    Thank you! What time period (how many months does this cover approximately?)

    • @AndreaOlson
      @AndreaOlson  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It covers babies from around 0-4 months-ish. Basically the time period before they are really mobile.👍

    I've listened to a few of your podcasts, watched videos on youtube, read a few articles: thank you very much for your work and all this information! I decided to try it out right away and had been doing it for a 2-3 weeks now. My baby is 5 weeks old. However, it doesn't seem that she is fond of it :( sometimes I hold her for a while and nothing happens, so I feed her and then it all "goes". I also held her before bathing - nothing, so put her in a bath and she peed. That happened two times so far. I decided to try more comfortable position, where I sit on a toilet and she is between my legs, very strong support from 3 sides (legs and belly) and even her feet might have some support over toilet itself, but still not very successful :( any tips?

      Hey there, and Congratulations!
      Thank you for your support. Do you have a top hat potty? Those are great for little ones your age. The best part is that you can put them on the potty while they are eating, etc.. I would also check in and make sure you are relaxed, babies this age are very in tuned with how we feel. Often times we forget to breathe and relax for our babies.

    What are your recommendations for me going back to work 40 hours a week with a 6 week old?

    • @AndreaOlson
      @AndreaOlson  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do what you can! Remember EC can be practiced as part time or as full time as possible.
      If your child care provider can EC your little one while you are at work, that is great! If not, just offer at home.

    Hi Andrea! I have a newborn and I am trying to do EC with her, however she screams bloody murder on the top hat potty. What can I do about this? She is 9 days old. Thanks!

    How do you do diaper free time with a boy? My little one pees in every direction! He is now 5 weeks old. Thank you!

    • @AndreaOlson
      @AndreaOlson  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question! At his age you can just lay a little cloth over him like a baby washcloth. That will keep pee from going everywhere and you'll still see as soon as he goes. Once he's bigger and wiggly, you can use Tiny Undies or Tiny Trainers.
