    If you and your friends are slow walkers, don't walk in a horizontal line across the pavement like Reservoir Dogs. I walk at normal speeds, and it gives me pedestrian road rage to be stuck behind you, and I can't ask you to make a gap so I can get past, because I'm British and speaking to anyone ever would be impolite.

      Not to mention that if you manage to push through they get offended and the "top dog" curses you out while the others laugh like a bunch of stoner hyenas, but if you DO ask, they STILL get offended and passive-aggressively are like, "Yeah okay I'll stop my conversation so you can get your iced coffee just a little bit faster".

      That's when you pop the alpha in the nose and become the new alpha! Then, you make your betas go get your coffee - and maybe a donut. But not one with sprinkles because you're wearing beige and if a sprinkle gets on your pants it will stain and you'll have to throw those pants out.

    don't stand on opposite sides of a sidewalk or hallway to talk. It's makes everyone else feel like an ass when they have to walk between interrupting your conversation.

    • @fistoffries
      @fistoffries 9 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I was wondering when someone was going to say this. This also applies to staircases, doorways and any other traffic areas. Now everyone has to decide if they are being rude as they stroll through your conversation.

    • @MurdocsMinion
      @MurdocsMinion 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      If I'm not in a huge hurry, but I've had to stand there, waiting for you to finish talking, I'll move to stand in the middle of the conversation, and see if anyone says anything.

    • @ekscalybur
      @ekscalybur 9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Walkways, hallways, or any kind of traffic corridor are not places for conversations, they are places for getting somewhere. If two stop to chat in one of those places, it is they who have committed the rude action. Mutter a barely intelligible excuse me and give the one on your side a glare that says you hope they spontaneously combust right after you pass.

    Stairs and elevator etiquette should also be on this list, because nothing is as annoying as trying to walk out of an elevator and the subhumans start trying to pile in before people have gotten out. Or when people form a human wall going up or down stairs, stay to one side!

  • @alex_oiman

    i've got a better one than "dont stop on the sidewalk", when walking with a group on the sidewalk DONT WALK SIDE BY SIDE. you're either forcing me to also be an ass and push you apart so i can pass, or go around you because you're either too slow or an asshole and wont break the line. mostly women do this. they get in groups of 3-5 and then have the nerve to call you the asshole when hitting you're shoulder when you try to go around or through.

      One time I was walking down the sidewalks and two couples with strollers passed each other in opposite direction. There were cars parked right next to the sidewalk and then busy traffic in the street...and those fuckers stopped RIGHT THERE next to a parked car to chat! When like... ten feet earlier there was a nice empty spot of driveway they could shuffle into to talk about their little snotmonsters. I had no regret passing rudely behind them with my bagpack.

      ***** Lol yea I have similar encounters except on my mountain bike while travelling on an access road that some people use for walking (though it's a road so I feel like I should have the right-away to pedestrians since I'm on a bike anyway). Often I'll come across people who will walk 3 or 4 abreast and not flinch as they see me approach (and it's not like I'm trying to be a dick, I'll slow down, move to the side, etc, but there's only so much room when people walk like that... I'm not driving in the muck). So eventually If I'm close enough and they haven't moved I keep on peddling and drive uncomfortably close to people (or into a puddle... but only if I'm really being an ass lol)... and I've had a number of dogs chase me for a few minutes since I'm sick of stopping and waiting for owners to get a handle on their pets while I wait patiently for the dog to calm down and stop following me (should be on a leash anyway, still within city limits and on public land)... I'm not trying to be a jerk but dammit man some people are inconsiderate and the only way to deal with them is to push your way past!

    USA: On the freeway, if you're in the right hand lane, please drive at a safe but expeditious speed. All other lanes - you MUST drive faster than the lane to your right, otherwise please merge into that lane.

    • @KeyWiteWolf
      @KeyWiteWolf 7 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      I second this. I'm not even that fast of a driver, I rarely go more then about 2 miles over the speed limit (7 if I am really in a hurry), and it amazes me how often I wind up passing people while *I'm* in the right lane. Excuse me, you're in the "fast lane", why are you going 10 miles below the speed limit? This is not just an inconvenience, its a hazard.

    • @thepook04
      @thepook04 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tosh Outdoors another note. if your in a small vehicle (pick ups SUVs and down. use the on ramp to accelerate to freeway speeds. I'm a trucker and i don't always have time or space to move over. we drive way slower than the rest of traffic so why are cars slowing down to get in front of us?

    • @roflsirofthelawl216
      @roflsirofthelawl216 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      No one should be "Driving" in the right lane at all... That lane should always be left for the people merging on and off the highway. If you have more than 2 miles to go. Merge left...

    • @KeyWiteWolf
      @KeyWiteWolf 7 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      RoflSirOfTheLawl
      Actually, in Ohio at least, it is LAW that you cannot stay in the left lane for more then two miles unless you are actively passing someone, and then you must merge back into the right lane as soon as safely possible. Obviously you should switch lanes momentarily if someone is merging onto the highway, but as soon as you clear the ramp you are expected to merge back over. This is because the right lane is the "default" lane, and the left lane is the "fast" lane, and is ment only for passing traffic. If everyone stayed in the left lane traffic would be very backed up on the highway. Also people would be passing the slow traffic by going into the right lane, which by the way is also not something you are supposed to do. That's why I mentioned it above. Each state technically has its own traffic laws, but most are fairly similar. The main/slower traffic is ment to move on the right so the faster traffic can pass on the left. This is so traffic has a flow. On-ramps are actually supposed to yield to highway traffic (in every state), though it is encouraged to get up to highway speed to make merging easier, sometimes if someone has to slow down to merge safely that falls to the ramp traffic.

      Please note however this can only apply to freeways that have no Left lane egress. People that flash their lights &/or honk to try to get me to move over a lane when my turn is coming up deserve what they are going to get in Hell. Have some decency and sense!

      People seem to do this the most in the diamond lane. It’s like they just see the sign that says it’s only for cars with more than one person, so they think it’s mandatory to be in if they fit the criteria.

  • @thecellulontriptometer4166
    @thecellulontriptometer4166 7 ปีที่แล้ว +47

    Course the origin of all of this is people who act with complete disregard of all those around them. They don't care that they inconvenience someone else. They don't care that their barking dog kept the neighborhood up all night. They don't care that someone behind them in the left lane is not happy with going exactly the speed limit, and is trying to get to the hospital to see their first child born. But, they do care if in any of these instances they are the one on the other side of the equation. I am not exactly sure when and how, but somehow about 25% of all the people seem to have completely lost the simple ability or willingness to empathize with anyone else.

      Also don't turn on your turn signal until you are close to where you'll turn. If there's another road before it, people will assume you are turning on *that* road. If you realize you're wrong and another car is there now, give up and make the turn and then find a place to turn around. Don't hope that the other car won't hit you.

      For instance, I was walking through the hall one day with my friends, and we had just listened to The Mars Volta's masterpiece, De-Loused In the Comatorium, so I had "Televators" (amazing track, very deep) stuck in my head. However, those douchebags walked by us for a few minutes, and whatever god awful song they were playing got in my head for the rest of the day, thus making me in a bad mood. Here´s a few more.
    1) Do not block doorways.
    A doorway is usally meant for one or two persons to pass through. If you stop at a doorway you will block other people and prevent them from coming through.
    2) When you´re in the grossery store and you´re using a shopping cart, don´t bring it with you wherever you go. When traveling through a narrow passage in the store to get something from that specific shelf, you don´t really need to bring that cart with you. Park it where it´s not in the way.
    3) Also when you´re in the supermarket and you´re using a shopping cart, don´t walk in the middle of the "lane". People that are in a hurry or just want to make some quick and effective shopping are not able to pass.
    4) When using double electric sockets to for example charge your phone, take the one at the bottom first. Because if you´re using the top one first you make it harder for the next user to plug in the electric cord in the bottom one.

    So, I really like this video, especially the "no touchy" rule.
    Ok, so I may be in a highschool filled with immature teenagers and my hair may be in a braid that is thick, impressive, and well beyond my butt, but for God's sake DON'T TOUCH IT. It's not a toy. It's not a snake. It's not a rope. It's not a train whistle for you to tug and say "choo choo!", you cannot yank on it and run away, if you are my friend you may not grab the end and whip it around saying "YAH! YAH! GIDDYUP!"
    LOOK. DON'T TOUCH.
    Have a nice day :)

    • @ainselcrowvenski487
      @ainselcrowvenski487 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      XD sorry, but no, I'm not. I'm pretty much about as pale as they can come. But I can't really say I've ever felt the driving urge to touch someone's hair, black or white. I know for a fact that it's not nice when you feel someone touching your hair with no real warning. Those women have my sympathy, but I think that no matter who it belongs to, if hair is impressive in some way you should expect to encounter people who don't have the phrase "personal space" in their vocab.

    • @ainselcrowvenski487
      @ainselcrowvenski487 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Almost as awkward?! It's ten times as awkward! They do it because they see how long it is, and they think "oh, maybe if I just touch it a little bit they won't notice," but then they do it and I immediately notice. I turn this "what the hell, dude." look on them and they start rapidly apologizing and explaining themselves.

      +Rica Point I have similar hair (hip length blond hair, though my hair is seriously "fine", so no "impressive braid" for me.. More like "emaciated, cancer stricken braid that garners sympathy from kids with leukemia who feel pity for it".. =X)
      Though, I have a coworker very much like your class mates. She is a black woman though, and she regularly pets my hair, finger combs it, and plays with it, like I am some Barbie sitting at my desk solely for her hair fetishist amusement. The irritating part, I mean, above and beyond the whole "no personal space" thing; She does it mindlessly, and at the most fucked up times.. Like when she comes out of the bathroom, or after she's put lotion on... By the end of the day, I make every effort to not touch my now greasy, potty water hair, until I can take shower #2 after work.
      BTW, I found (thought I did) a way to spare the hair! Buns. Boring, Librarian-esque buns. All my hair, wrapped into one uncomfortably large wad on the back of my head. It's seems "personal space" really wasn't in her vocab, because her response to that was to remove the bobby pins and clips holding my bun up, unravel it, and then proceed to resume petting me like a bunny in a petting zoo..
      I suppose she thought the bun was foreplay... -_-

    Some bus ones: don't stand in the doorway unless you are getting off at the next stop, it is 3 people wide and no one else is, or if there is literally no other room on the bus.
    Don't block the isle when there are free seats behind you - idc if YOU wanna stand, I don't.
    Don't stand at the front of the bus unless the rest of the standing room is gone.
    If you have a right to the reserved seating in the front of the bus, but there are more than one strollers or wheelchairs, then sit in the first none folding seats and let the people fold up the benches and tuck their strollers and/or wheelchairs there. Don't force them to block the isle because you don't want to give them the space they are entitled to.
    Don't blast your music or wear a fuckton of perfume. The first is inconsiderate and the second actually impacts my health: I have asthma and am allergic to perfume.
    Don't stare at people who are one the bus (and not breaking any of these rules). Leave them alone, idc how weird you think they look, they have a right to ride the bus in peace.
    And finally:
    IF SOMEONE TELLS YOU THAT YOU'RE BOTHERING THEM (_especially_ if it's relating to these rules) FUCKING LISTEN AND IF POSSIBLE/REASONABLE: ACCOMMODATE.

      I think the only time its acceptable is if your diving to a wall, avoiding some asshole speeding around the corner in a car on a backstreet that you need to walk on to get where your going. For some reason those assholes need to go 60 mph & turn wide to go around corners in a residential area, going into the left side of the street. (near where I live there is a street that people decide to speed through and they almost hit everyone and everything doing so.)

    I completely agree with everything, but there are a couple of additions to the walking rules:
    1: When walking in a group of friends don't all walk side by side creating some kind of rolling road block of the pavement.
    2: Do NOT stop to have a conversation in a high pedestrian traffic area, ie. Doorways, middle of path, etc.
    3: Pram pushers, be wary of the size of your pram and where you are directing it, please note that it is not a battering ram.
    On a side note: NO, I do not want to see photos of your Kids/Dogs/Cats/Beenie babies etc. I couldn't care less even if they were my own.

    I'd like to add to the list those who, while shopping at a grocery store, see something that they want, yet instead of pulling the cart to the side to allow for traffic, they leave their cart in the middle of the isle while they slowly go to retrieve their desired item. THERE ARE OTHER PEOPLE BEHIND YOU! This happens on a regular basis, where 2-5 people get held up by one idiot who refuses to have consideration for others. They seem to think that grocery isles have the same rules as the line at the checkout: everyone behind me has to wait for me to finish. Guess what- the people behind you don't have to wait behind you while you shop; if you had pulled to the side, those other people could get around you, to get to their own desired items.
    It is like if you were driving on a busy road, saw a store that you wanted to visit, but rather than pulling into a parking lot, you decided to leave your car in the middle of the road, so that you could walk over to said store. Hey, screw those people behind you, right?
    I think this situation leads to me being my most passive-aggressive. I will loudly say "Excuse me/us" drawing the person's attention to the fact that, while they were being selfish, a group of other people have been inconvenienced. Most will apologize and move their cart (as they should have to begin with), however there are always a few that are confused by the crowd of annoyed people behind them... as if they are completely unaware why said people are annoyed.

    I'm a big fan of the no-touching policy with strangers. Why would you even want to touch them? You don't know where they've been, or if they'd be ok with it. Walked into a convenience store, and saw a clerk, that I usually see working in a different store, who also recognized me. Sure it was odd, but not all that much. Definitely not so out of the ordinary that our "familiarity" with each other made it alright for him to poke me in the stomach while I was walking by him. I'm not the pilsbury fucking dough boy, I assure you, I'm not into it. I was so weirded out by it, I just turned around, and walked right out. Haven't gone back to either of the stores I've seen him at just on the off chance I might run into him again.

    Oh, here's an addendum to the etiquette for pedestrians. If you're walking down a sidewalk, hallway, or narrow path, stick to one side, or at least maintain your relative position along the path. Don't just switch sides every few seconds. For people who walk quickly, or those in a hurry, this can make passing another pedestrian unnecessarily difficult.
    'Okay, coming up on this guy. I'll just pass him on his right... nope. Okay maybe his left. Nope. Hmm... should I say excuse me? Just like some cyclist ringing his bell at someone on a bike path? Ngh, they're the worst. Is that who I wanted to be when I was a kid? Oh here's my chance! He's sticking to a side. Maybe he noticed me trying to pass.'
    Uncomfortably gets bumped into while passing.
    'Sorry.' I say quickly, and spend the rest of the day trying to get over the trauma of accidental human contact.

      The only acceptable situation is when you need someones attentions and he or she doesnt react to you speaking to them. NOT for flirting but when you need their help or their standing in you way. And then arm, or shoulder. Nothing else. And by the way, don't touch people you know if you are not 100% sure if they want it. Can be really creepy to and people are less likely to complaint couse they might look like an asshole (they dont, its their right to not be touched).

      VampirateYuki regardless of who it is, i NEVER let anyone touch me, i often downplay my OCD, but my big no-no is physical contact. the only person in the entire fucking world that i will let touch me for whatever reason is my mum for the occasional hug, and that's only for the psychological benefits of hugging your parent/child.
      when i'm out in public, i will take any and all measures to avoid touching anything someone else has touched, even to the point of waiting until someone leaves the bathroom, politely moving past them and catching the closing door with my foot, and later opening it with my elbow.
      if the bathroom is private to a disabled person, which i am (psychological problems, not physical), while washing my hands i will specifically coat the door handle with soap and strategically wash off the soap, a practice i use for ALL basin taps i use, regardless of circumstance.
      if i have to touch anything, or god forbid, shake someone's hand, i'll nonchalantly sneak out my bottle of hand sanitizer without them seeing and distract them while i sneakily sanitize my hands without hurting their feelings.
      it's gotten so bad that i can tell if someone washes their hands by how they smell.
      that's right: i am such a nutjob about social hygiene that i have specifically, and unintentionally, developed a talent for smelling soap much like how a police dog can smell drugs.
      and due to my hydrophobia, i usually find it VERY difficult to have a shower, so i often use antibacterial baby wipes to keep fresh and clean between the wars of water. it doesn't help that EVERY SINGLE FUCKING TIME i have a shower, my mum turns on the washing machine, legitimately forgetting about me showering, and the water doesn't build up enough pressure for at least half an hour AFTER the washing machine is turned off.
      so often my only saving grace is going full-sheldon in my own home.

Sometimes you have never been there before, and so you don't know what the options are, and there is no unawkward way to look at the menu ahead of time. This has happened to me a couple times and I feel so bad, but I didn't know what else to do. I do other annoying things too, and I know it and feel bad, but I make mistakes. Obviously there are horrible people that don't care, but I think the percentage of people who know they are annoying and feel bad is far higher than most assume (especially on the road where no one can hear me apologize from inside the car).

      +girlysword There's NO harm in needing extra service! If the menu is unclear or difficult to read... even the most overburdened & unapproachable counter crew will accommodate that! (Or if they can't... they should work elsewhere!) I think what he's driving at... are the people who squander the time they are in line NOT deciding what they want! So when it is their turn, they don't have a clue!!! MANY years ago... I worked in a food court & people would hem & haw at me to 'open another register' or even snap at the person in front to hurry up! THEN... when it was their turn, they were like 'hmmm what do I want???' THESE are the people who should stick to delivery!

  • @saltypork101
    @saltypork101 9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    No. While waiting in a queue, I have this thing called patience. Just go to your damn happy place. Last week my elderly mother made her first ever venture into a fast food shop. I don't know if you've ever considered this, but the way the options are presented to you in these places is fucking bewildering to newcomers. I witnessed this whole event - she spent easily less than 15 seconds asking questions about what was available and considering her choice, before she was heckled by some jerkwad ad the back of the line saying "it's called FAST food you dozy cow". Can you believe that?
    I have a theory that this is all just projection. You are picking out all the times when you feel like the worst person in the world for getting impatient or whatever, and you're looking for someone else to blame.

    • @cryptidhunter24
      @cryptidhunter24 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think that Soren was talking about when people who would have no problem doing it take forever to decide what they want when they get to the front. The disabled, elderly, and small children who are in line by themselves for some reason are an exception and should be treated with respect and patience. So in that instance, the dude was totally out of line.

    • @saltypork101
      @saltypork101 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      cryptidhunter24 disabilities aren't always obvious or even visible at all. And what if the poor bastard at the front has just had a really bad day? Maybe they've just pulled a triple shift, or heard devastating news about a loved one. Everyone deserves our respect and patience until they are shown beyond doubt to be abusing it.

    • @cryptidhunter24
      @cryptidhunter24 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That's true too. I think the main thing is that you should always be patient, but don't be that guy who takes forever for no good, legitimate reason.

    • @allpossibleworlds
      @allpossibleworlds 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      saltypork101 The thing that can be frustrating is that lots of people do this kind of thing regularly, the people who aren't overwhelmed or confused but somehow manage to spend all their waiting time on things other than deciding what they're going to order. It's especially annoying when you're stuck behind them and know exactly what you're getting and you're half-starved, and this person has like a troop of kids and friends and annoying relatives with them and is trying to figure out what everybody wants at the same time at the front of the line. Like get yourselves organized, for God sake. But it's not appropriate to heckle or get after people for being indecisive, regardless of whether they're elderly or disabled or what (though it certainly is worse). That is just so rude, we all still have to take responsibility for how we treat others, especially because, as you said, there could be numerous other possible reasons for someone taking a while with their order, they could be distracted and upset about something that's just happened, for example, but still have to get some food.
      I've never worked fast food but even just working as a cashier has changed my perspective on how to go about buying things or placing a food order. I generally try to be as efficient and clear as possible, to make things easier for the employees and the people waiting behind me. I go up, tell the person what I want, whether I want it for here or to go, and how I'll be paying, as I take out my card or my money. Then they don't have to ask me all the same questions they end up asking almost every single customer. Saves time.

    People who smoke in crowded areas
    People who walk together with friends, side by side, blocking an entire walkway. (Usually slowly, too)
    People who stop in doorways. (Worse than when people stop in hallways or on sidewalks)
    Drivers who merge onto the highway going 20-30 MPH under the speed limit.
    Drivers who slow down LONG before their turn.
    Truckers who are in the left lane going 10 MPH under for no apparent reason.
    People who don't hold the door for an extra second when they can clearly see that your hands are full.
    Drivers who, when they see that you're about 5 seconds from getting to a road that you're about to walk across, stop and look at you, indicating that they want to be "polite" and "let" you go first. (Making me feel like I need to walk-run all the way to and across the road, even though they easily could have just gone instead of waiting for me.)
    People who hold the door for you even though you're not even close to the door and your hands aren't full. (Same problem as above.)
    ...
    You know what?... Everyone. It's everyone. Nobody isn't awful.

    • @KittyTwitty9876
      @KittyTwitty9876 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, in everybody's defense of that second to last point, you honestly can never tell if that person you're letting cross is going to be an asshat or a reckless kid and just keep walking into oncoming traffic anyway and expect you to stop. That happens way too often where I'm from which is why when I have to be a pedestrian, I always stop 4+ feet away from the curb and wave at them before crossing so that the driver who is coming knows I'm not planning on being an asshat and crossing until they have passed.

    • @anthonycoppola1407
      @anthonycoppola1407 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree with your list except one. Yielding to pedestrians who are about to go through a crosswalk is the law and probably don’t want to risk getting a ticket. They’ve been cracking down on it in recent years here in Jersey.

    It was in high school, so maybe hormones were working both ways, but I was standing in the lunch line. Chick with really large boobs was standing behind me. I had my long arms in my pockets, with my elbow kinda pointing behind me. Next thing I know, my elbow is nestled right in her ample cleavage. I pretended not to notice and she didn't make one sound or attempt to dislodge me. Either she didn't care, somehow didn't notice, or wanted my elbow there.
    So...one instance where standing too close in a line was a net win for me.
    There's also a chance that she was too scared. I'm defensive tackle sized AND dark of skin. So...
