You're 100% correct about honesty. I work in a different area of tech and frequently tell people " you need to spend a lot to make a noticeable difference to what you already have and I'd rather you don't spend a penny today until you've saved up for it " . They often come back in a year or so. I enjoy watching your channel very much.
Enjoying this from Montpellier, France. Wish we had a shop like yours here in the our beautiful city. The only good one closed down 5 years ago. The new shops and everyone else selling very high end gear or home cinema systems
Putting your customers first has always been my philosophy as well and it has made my career’s very enjoyable. Doing the right thing often caused extra work but at the end of the day I had enormous job satisfaction.
I thought I recognised you when you mentioned the Congleton shop - on West Street , sold me some stuff and repaired my Rotel CD player. I must come and see you in Crewe.
Amazing really where so many bricks and mortar hifi stores have closed and yet you are doing better with the shop than when you were an internet only retailer. And all the better for it too i should imagine. 😊
Great vlog Phil, didn't realise the shop was so young, got into HiFi in a similar way, seeing and listening to my parents friends audio mid 70's, Sony music centres and early Sony piano key cassette decks, I always spent as much as I could on equipment so are with me a long time, my current amp 15yrs old the previous one over 30yrs but I love music so much, it's an amazing hobby.
Great video Phil. You're a humble, self-deprecating man who often apologises for "waffling". No need. You're honest, highly informative and with great integrity. Love your channel.
Hi Phil - Thanks for the personal video, it's always interesting to hear other people's story. I agree, it starts with the music. I'd like to visit the shop, but unfortunately, Norfolk is a bit far away, so I'l have to make do with TH-cam and the online shop.
Phil, so happy you made this video. What a great journey. Congratulations on all the anniversaries and wishing you continued success for many year to come! Happy New Year from NH here in the US.
I feel similarly to you Phil.I was in the retail industry for hifi years ago and the trend towards lighting systems and AV held no interest for me. The bug started when I had one of those midi systems and wondered whether I could get surround sound speakers for it. As it turned out,I couldn't, but the cd part had an output for an external amp and speakers, which got me up and running. My interest was initially piqued when I visited a work colleague of my dad's as a boy and heard his set up. I wasn't aware that standard of playback existed until that occasion. The rest is history as they say.
Thanks for video very interesting, how about another album reveiw, those i like best. Perhaps one of your sisters all time favs. Keep doing these videos on turntables to take care camping mate.
Hi, looking for a bit of help. I'm just about to upgrade the cartridge on my 90's P3 to a 2M Blue. I read various opinions on whether I need to fit spacers to lift the arm. Some say yes others no. What do you think? Is it neccessary and will it improve the sound? Thanks
Must be a labour of love, I can't fathom out how a Hi-Fi dealer makes a living? When I look at the obscene prices of the high end market I wonder to myself instead of stocking all those products with what they cost, you might as well retire. How much do you need to stock value wise? £500K? Is there much pressure to hit targets?
Integrity. Not to be underestimated. Well done Phil. Big fan of your channel down here in Brighton.

This guy is a gem in the Hifi world.

Hi Phil sounds to me that you are living the dream, good luck to you and I hope you enjoyed the camping.
I live 200 miles from Crewe. When I’m in a position to upgrade my turntable I will be driving to Crewe to see Phil…
Brilliant it’s great that true hifi shops are still going. Great business model. Well done. I’ll pay you a visit one day!
Great going Phil !
All that matters is that you're immersed in music and happy and always smiling.
God bless you.
Happy anniversary 🎉
People buy from people, not from businesses. I'll be in touch, Phil
Brilliant episode. Thank for the history.

Thanks Phil. Very interesting. Most peoples "careers" are very randomly determined. Things just happen.

Of course you did well with Nordost.. the margins must be 10000% :)
About the same with most brands, 40 - 45 percent margins, although Nordost was less margin than Qed for example that in some cases was 60%.

I wonder if you have any help with running the shop , and when you decide to retire are there any family to carry the business on .
You'll remember Chris Frankland then!
What about those new Rega floorstanders ? Have you ordered them?
Don't blame John for not getting Nordost in haha. Snake oil
