In gold and silver Bill gives you an Eevee when you go to his house after meeting him for the first time, which is the best pokemon to use against Morty's Gengar due to it being unable to be attacked by ghost pokemon. The only downside is if he blocks eevee from being switched you need a non-normal type move taught to deal damage(While taking 0 damage from Gengar). I made this mistake the first time around and had to finish off his Gengar with Struggle after blowing thru Sand Attack, Growl, and Tail Whip PP.
Sengoku I'm pretty sure this only works in the remakes. In the original gen 2 games Morty's Gengar knows Dream Eater which affects Normal types just fine.So unless you make him use up all of his Hypnosis PP, this won't work.In HGSS however they made Morty piss easy by giving his Gengar only ghost type attacks making him beatable with a level 2 rattata

Just wanted to leave a comment on the Legendary Beasts. A method I used as a child, and seemingly always worked was immediately as you set them into the wild, one beast will be in each of the routes adjacent from that town. Entei is usually to the East in route 42 Suicune is usually to the South in route 37, and Raikou is usually to the West in route 38. Using Gold and Silver, I could consistently get Entei and Raikou immediately by save scumming and just chucking balls and praying. Then get Suicune in Crystal. (Note, Raikou and Suicune routes could be reversed. I'm struggling to remember which was where. But Entei is almost always in route 42 after leaving the tower.)
What's funny is that I actually always name the GSC Rival John, because Giovanni is the Italian equivalent of John and I like the idea of him being sort of named after his father.

Working on VC Gold, Silver, and Crystal national Pokedex right now. I'm 80+ hours through a casual Crystal playthrough, and I almost have the majority of gen 1...! Your video gives me hope for the gen 2 list. :)
When you realized that you could obtain a machop for a drowzee in goldenrod's mall, its kinda stupid, since drowzee can be found at south of goldenrod and the machop is kinda useful ;-;
oh god, I remember as a kid trying to hard to get Delibird..... I loved the pokemon cuz of the anime, thought it was a super good pokemon 2...... then I used it -.-" Faretch'd is a much better "joke" pokemon that I think is actually use able, which is sad...
Watching this now really makes me nostalgic for that first time I played the OG Pokémon games when there really wasn’t any information readily available so it would take hours upon hours to find some of the rare encounters cause you just had no idea. The headbutt Pokémon in particular I remember being some of the few I just never found.
I clicked on this video because gen2 is my favorite. I thoroughly enjoyed your video! I’ll be doing this on my own time, now :) I’ve played this game an insane amount of times but never completed the Pokédex. Thanks!
I know this video is old but I'm just discovering it and wanted to mention something about it. When I was playing the digital version of crystal on the ds I won the bug catching contest on my first try, I was never able to win the contest on the hard copy games. I was so excited that a Scyther was able to nab the win for me.
Just catch Pinsir. You'll always win expect when there is this blue haired trainer in the contest too. He also catches a pinsir everytime so its a bit of a gamble
Next up is Hoenn, so don't slackoth now, your determination in theese games has really Combuskend my passion to play them again, though your clock cheats were a tad Shiftry,. o i hope you can Meditite on the challanges you have faced here and Shedinja your remaning free time and catch em all in Hoenn soon, cause Wynaut.
26:52 - I now feel kinda guilty because I legitimately won the bug catching contest within my first three tries by getting a scyther, with no knowledge about all this info or how lucky I was. XD I just found one and caught it XD
When I first played these games, I had no clue how to play and only used my starter: chikorita. I managed to beat the whole game and red with just them and a shit ton of full restores. Never say a gym is impossible with just Bayleef lol
It's actually pretty easy to get through the whole game with just Typhlosion with no healing items. Everything goes down to flamethrower and thunder punch
I've always chosen Chikorita when I play Johto and I don't usually have an issue. My Bayleef does a good job of keeping it's own. It's all about the support team you build. If this wasn't a speed run, your Hoothoot could have known confusion which helps out.
I recently (Tuesday and Saturday) did the Bug Catching Contest and that Reddit post was some of the only good and recent info I could find. That person is hero.
You're crazy but I love your videos with this concept. It really makes me want to play those games again but I am always too frustrated at the idea of missing on some Pokémon because of the lack of trading.
Pokemon Gold, Silver, and Crystal did come to the 3DS's Virtual Console, about 7 months ago, so I'd wager he was on a version of the game on Virtual Console.

I'm here in 2019 watching this video. This series is awesome and I'm really looking forward to you doing the Kanto half of the Johto games and like seriously can't wait for you to do Sinnoh, they are seriously irritating and aren't exactly my favourite games. Love this stuff dude. P.s. Johto is my favourite generation, even with all its flaws
This video is pretty old now but, I’ve been playing Crystal recently, and I kinda remember being so frustrated with the bug-catching contest. So this time around I’ve made it my mission to beat him every day it’s open lmao!!! The easiest way I’ve found where I was able to beat him was with a lvl 15 Pinsir/Scyther. But yeah this was an awesome run man! Really enjoyed it!
Yeeeeah boy! That’s why Gengar is my favorite Pokémon. You can’t run, you can’t hide, you can’t even move. Just stand there paralyzed in fear as he devours your soul. Get rekt son!
I started in 2003 with Ruby and Sapphire, so I have a great love for the games. Still play em and shiny hunt em as well. But I would put Sinnoh in second place for me. Currently doing Diamond and pearl shiny hunting too. Catching them all for D/P wouldnt be too bad since the dex is 150, while Platinums is a bit expanded. Im actually working on completing the Sinnoh dex and the gen 4 dex
I love how its just glanced over "oh yeah we just went in the cave and caught two marill" when I have not ever found a marill in any od my gen 2 game playthroughs despite hours of searching. Ugh.
Been checking every day, for multiple times a day. To finally see it happen. YES!! Earned a sub ;) And hope to see part 2 soon. Also, would LOVE to see a Glitch run of this, to be fair.
Hey, your video inspired me to do the same and catch every gen ii pokémon. When I was trying I manage to catch TWO shiny Ursarings on Mt Silver on 30 minutes. I play this game since I was 7 years old and I never saw a shiny. And of course I didn't use any cheat cods. So thank you so much for the inspiration that became a childhood dream coming true
These videos are really well made and I hope will continue on. Johto is my favorite region so this video, in particular, I was extra excited for. #slowspeedrunfornextrival lol

When you realized that you could obtain a machop for a drowzee in goldenrod's mall, its kinda stupid, since drowzee can be found at south of goldenrod and the machop is kinda useful ;-;
Excellent video! I love how you go in depth with how you take on the challenge. Look forward to any future challenge videos like this in the future
"Don't do this." *proceeds to do it*
The production quality of this is insane. Well done, this was extremely entertaining.
oh god, I remember as a kid trying to hard to get Delibird..... I loved the pokemon cuz of the anime, thought it was a super good pokemon 2...... then I used it -.-"
Faretch'd is a much better "joke" pokemon that I think is actually use able, which is sad...
Lol. I stuck with him and made that dumb bird sweep blue out of spite. It was great.
I'm getting excited for gen 3!!
Love your videos, Great quality as always

Ew
Besides that, great video John
dark mode ftw
did he open discord in this video????

I like it
Shut up nerd
Watching this now really makes me nostalgic for that first time I played the OG Pokémon games when there really wasn’t any information readily available so it would take hours upon hours to find some of the rare encounters cause you just had no idea. The headbutt Pokémon in particular I remember being some of the few I just never found.
31:31 Pichu? Sir thats a pikachu.
Just had to say that
Great job as always John! Can’t wait for Gen 3!
This was a very impressive video. You sure are a Pokemon God!!
I clicked on this video because gen2 is my favorite. I thoroughly enjoyed your video! I’ll be doing this on my own time, now :)
I’ve played this game an insane amount of times but never completed the Pokédex.
I have caught pinsir before and have always gotten second place, that happened to me about 3 times.
First video I have watched of yours and it was EXCELLENT!!! Definitely gonna sub!
Ok Samson Oak 👌
okay I see you 👌
This is cringe
Josue Negron IKR isn’t I great
Bud Um Tss
This is easily some of the highest quality content on TH-cam
26:52 - I now feel kinda guilty because I legitimately won the bug catching contest within my first three tries by getting a scyther, with no knowledge about all this info or how lucky I was. XD I just found one and caught it XD
Where is part 2? I check every year for 5 years. I don't want to die before seeing it
When I first played these games, I had no clue how to play and only used my starter: chikorita. I managed to beat the whole game and red with just them and a shit ton of full restores. Never say a gym is impossible with just Bayleef lol
Same i was with totodile and i beat all johto and kanto with Feraligatr and Lugia..
It's actually pretty easy to get through the whole game with just Typhlosion with no healing items. Everything goes down to flamethrower and thunder punch
been waiting for this!! so happy for this video and i havent even watched already liked it!
I've always chosen Chikorita when I play Johto and I don't usually have an issue. My Bayleef does a good job of keeping it's own. It's all about the support team you build. If this wasn't a speed run, your Hoothoot could have known confusion which helps out.
Gotta appreciate how much work went into making this video
I was hoping you would do more of these!!
You’re one of my favorite channels John, thank you for your content! Also i’d LOVE to see one of these challenges with Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald
I've played over 200 hours of Crystal in my life. I never knew Dunsparce could be caught in the cave. Oh my god.
I recently (Tuesday and Saturday) did the Bug Catching Contest and that Reddit post was some of the only good and recent info I could find. That person is hero.
Thanks for this video, really interesting.
You're crazy but I love your videos with this concept. It really makes me want to play those games again but I am always too frustrated at the idea of missing on some Pokémon because of the lack of trading.
At 1st I was wondering if you were playing on 3ds vc then you did the celebi event
Pokemon Gold, Silver, and Crystal did come to the 3DS's Virtual Console, about 7 months ago, so I'd wager he was on a version of the game on Virtual Console.
my only question is how tf does one get celebi
@@MLPIceberg He definitely was, the celebi event was only available to Japanese releases back in the day.
@@tactualone9763 Crystal only, there was an event they removed for English releases that they added back in for the VC release. Speak to a nurse (Pokecentre I guess) for the GS ball and go to Ilex Forest shrine.
Tbh your channel is really underrated, you need more subs dude. Your videos are neat.
I literally just caught Lugia in my Silver and I was wondering why he was so freakin hard to catch! I had him at like 1 hp and was throwing ultra balls left and right!
Ok i played gold maybe 20 times and never had anything run away from me. Honestly i thought that was just a roaming thing
Where's the Kanto portion of the challenge? Its not in your playlists...
It was only teased but never made. All videos after that only shows him catching the new Pokémon of each generation
Yeeeeah boy! That’s why Gengar is my favorite Pokémon. You can’t run, you can’t hide, you can’t even move. Just stand there paralyzed in fear as he devours your soul.
Get rekt son!
One like for Hoenn!
As a Hoenn kid, I would love to see it!
@@yumakuga8641 To be honest, I'm more of a Sinnoh kid, but I still can't wait for Hoenn!
80 percent of the time it works 100 percent of the time.
*185 LIKES FOR YOU HOENNKIND!*
this is so much fun to watch! Keep up the good work man!!
Sinnoh one will probably be the longest, just saying.
a couple of weeks (on average) if he tries to get a tree munchlax
Don't forget about Feebas!
shiny female combee
@@irmamorales3428 two shiny female combee in a row
@@irmamorales3428 Only a masochist would want to do that!
I love these videos! Hope you continue them past gen 2!
I love how its just glanced over "oh yeah we just went in the cave and caught two marill" when I have not ever found a marill in any od my gen 2 game playthroughs despite hours of searching. Ugh.
So worth the wait! I love your videos!!
Sentret surfboarding🏄🏾♂️🏄🏾♂️🏄🏾♂️
I had to use glitches to get my Umbreon, even if I would’ve gotten it eeveentually
That...... Is the worst pun ive ever heard lol
Amazing video. Loved it. Narration, graphics and your editing. :)
Idea: complete the Pokédex in Pokémon ultra sun/moon
So you do not end giving up on life you do not have to complete this in 24 hours
But try to do it in under a week
Who ever sees this have a good day
i can do it in 1 minute
*opens up gameshark*
We all appreciate the effort, keep up the great work! :)
