  • Bob Hearts Abishola is a family comedy, suitable for all ages. But there are some subtly brilliant adult jokes thrown in too.

What's so abusive about it? It is a different culture.

@@snaazir6099 Not necessarily, remember they even call Abishola's mother "horrible" in the context of Nigerian culture. The show does an excellent job of demonstrating traditions and Yoruba culture and demonstrating people as individuals rather than as caricatures or representatives. In this case, Olu in many ways is presented as her sister's more moral foil and, simultaneously, Ebunulowa is depicted as the very worst and her silent treatment is a form of abuse and not a cultural norm which she clearly uses against those who care about her as part of her demonstration both by the Yoruba cast and writers as a sign of her not only being a bad mother but a bad person who delights in manipulating others and weaponizing traditional elder-reverence as an excuse to be cruel.

@@snaazir6099 Emotional abuse is abusive in any culture. Her mother was wrong in the first place.

@@Cornbreadfed82 that is not emotional abuse. Her mother is wrong by your standards. Not according to their culture.

@@jordancabe732 Jordan I agree Ebum can be abusive and horrible.. I don’t think this is one of those cases. It is similar to Bob Bowing to Uncle Tunde to get his forgiveness even though Tunde made a mess of things. It’s a part of honoring your elders.
