Chappers definitely has one of the best jobs in the world! He gets to play the best gear and gets paid for doing so! This IS the best AFD100 demo on the net! Great job MonkeyLord & Andertons.
I'm a huuuuge Slash fan, there was a time in my early teens when I'd listen to GnR exclusively! I still love their music and most of Slash's other projects. This amp is trully amazing and true to the great man's sound. Really outstanding work from Marshall! The excellent demo also deserves praise!
Watching this video just reminds me how far your videos have come in the last couple of years in terms of mixing sound quality and cutting. This is much more raw - I think Rob's playing has improved since Dorje got together too.
I just got one. It sounds just prefect, and like almost every other Marshall heads it sounds WAY better in real life than in vid, the ultimate sound to me.
Every now and again I think that modeling software like amplitube 3 make real tube amps redundant and then I see something like this. WoW!! Great playing Chappers.
Best demo I've seen of this amp. even better than the "official" one. You're a fantastic reviewer, you show every piece of equipment it's best qualities.
Best amp marshall has ever made...ever...hate me for saying this, but this is better then any jcm or plexi to my ears. When I think "a guitar into an amp", that's the sound!
Your name say it : no no no no no ! It's maybe better to your ears, but the reliability of this amp is behind awful and the asked price, for the actual quality of components is a rip off.
After so long I'm gonna get AFD from my friend. Cant wait until this weekend to crank the volume up. And thanks for Capt to clarify the 1960AV. It's gonna be badass :))
This amp not only does The Guns N Roses thing, but it also does The Eddie Van Halen thing as well. This amp, along with the 1977 JMP Master Volume, 50 watt heads, are the best stock Marshall's I have ever heard.Very impressive Slash/Marshall.
This amp review is baddddddd ass Rob! You were def working on your Slash chops! Don't know how anyone would dislike this video but I got this CD for 50 cents! It sounds sooooooo good! Go rob go rob!
I actually bought this amp through my local music store in Western Colorado. The amp sounds great I think. We even ran it at a full 100 watts right there in the store to see what it was capable of, and it is quite loud I must say!
Chappers! Absolutely awesome playing as always! What would be particularly awesome though would be if you could do a video going though some of that slash style soloing that you had on the go. Cheers man! Again sounded brilliant, keep it up!!
@dimlightbulb10 I think that's the main point that I wanted to get accross, even if you are not a Slash fan this is still a really great amp for any serious rock/blues guitarist. It's got all those classic tones you know and love from Marshall plus tons of useful fuctionality for home/beroom use. I really liked it ;-)
Thank you. I've played thru English tube amps set for UK voltage thru a voltage regulator here in America and have thought they sounded awesome. It's just that I've never done a side-by-side comparison. I must say that I'm impressed with the sturdiness of UK/Irish plugs vs. American ones though...
YJM demo for the win :-) Hope you're doing a demo of the YJM soon. Love the candy apple Yngwie strat too. Always a guitar ive fancied but never got my hands on Keep rocking dude
@audiotrax, I have a 99' studio, a Buckethead Signature, a 09 traditional pro, 12' standard HONEYBURST, and a very inexpensive 11, studio (60s) P90s. I'm in the states and if I was there I'd buy from Andertons. These guys look genuine and back their stuff. I have no affiliation and I'm amused highly by these affable guys. My 11' studio I plugged into my JCM800 last week and it SHRIEKED with raw p90 energy. FUN FUN FUN. Every lick and chord melded into just awesome tone. Good luck.
I've got this Marshall AFD100. It is a master piece art. If you can afford, buy one. Don't think Marshall will invest another project seriously like this one.
Very impressed.. Killer demo! I wouldn't have expected this to be so smooth - like a CRANKED marshall.. Generally, I don't like the sound of a Marshall, when it's outside the mix of a band... This one (and these hands) sound great, even solo...
slash didnt actually use a modded 1959T (or #39 as is known), the 1959T was used in rehearsals and he specifically requested it for recordings but SIR sent him stock #36 which was a non tremolo version that had the same mod which was done by tim caswell and added an extra gain stage
Just in case no one ever answered your question. I got a deal on a Marshall Class 5 set to American voltage (120) while I was living in Ireland about a year ago. I gave him $120 for the head and went onto Ebay and bought a step down converter for $40 that converted 220 to 120 and vice versa. As far as I can tell it makes no difference to sound and adds no interference.
Since this video is still getting a lot of love, I figured I'd point out a few things. The head is based off of a modified 1958 Super Lead. Marshall and Slash used the original raw tracks as a basis to design the AFD100.The raw tracks are STILL ran through his original Chris Derrick LP copy, the amp and cabinet, mic, through the console, and possibly other gear. What the AFD100 is copying is all of that gear, from a few tracks recorded in the 80's. Yeah, there's going to be differences guys.
Adam Armstrong You should watch some of the amp tech guys here on TH-cam and your mind will blow out your ears when you see what goes into making an amp sound a certain way.
I'm curious when that was. For the last few years, LPs are Pleked, which ensures even frets and excellent intonation. Of course there are QC issues as production increases. BUT they're MORE consistent now than they were in 1958-60. Price of a LP in 1959 was equal to $2100-$2700 in 2013 dollars. Price of a LP today? $2250 for LP Traditional to $3399 for a LP Standard with Premium top (unavailable in '50s), so not that different.
Demo for slash's gear, plays Izzy's part in Brownstone.
+Lane Hillard he's playing the riff. Not everyone is the fan to know every guitar part, or differnciate them
+JÄGER - BOMBER or use the treble pickup with tone full up for Sweet Child of Mine.... not correct.
Lane Hillard just stick to the point wich is to see what the afd sounds like.
Perfect example of "tone is in the fingers"
The solo at the beginning is the best bit of playing I've ever heard from Rob. So classic
Chappers definitely has one of the best jobs in the world! He gets to play the best gear and gets paid for doing so! This IS the best AFD100 demo on the net! Great job MonkeyLord & Andertons.
I must say Chappers...I honestly think this is for me the greatest tones you have ever achieved!
This is much more raw - I think Rob's playing has improved since Dorje got together too.
that was perhaps the best sounding guitar/amp i have ever heard. chappers you truly know how to bring the best out of an instrument.
I just got one. It sounds just prefect, and like almost every other Marshall heads it sounds WAY better in real life than in vid, the ultimate sound to me.
Every amp sounds at least 40% better with a bottle of Jack on top of it. :D
Well done Rob. We are witnessing your supreme versatility in the last few reviews. Good work mate.
damn that head sounds frickin awesome.im impressed.never would even of thought about looking at one of these but now i think i want one
Try a YJM100 with a Schaffer Vega replica. FUCK ME it sounds fantastic.
I'm getting one before christmas. It's gonna sound awesome with my vintage modern cabinet.
Damn, thanks a lot Capt! For a moment I couldn't find any Marshall cabs loaded with Vintage 30s, but now I know I'm gonna have a 1960AV :)
if standing in front of an amp like this feels half as badass as it looks, i'm sold.
nothing else than keep doing this show. This is better than anything MTV has
I had to do alot of homework, but after watching this you and Captain Lee made my day Rob ;-)
Awesome tones, possibly the best tones I've heard from Chappers!
beautiful guitar
YAAAAAYYYYY, another review is up! I love these
This amp review is baddddddd ass Rob! You were def working on your Slash chops! Don't know how anyone would dislike this video but I got this CD for 50 cents! It sounds sooooooo good! Go rob go rob!

CHAPPERS CUTTING YOU UP HARD... WITH THOSE BLISTERING SOLOS LOVE IT!
That guitar sounds awesome too.Chambered 07,08's stopped and now you have get them from the custom shop, ripped.
I actually bought this amp through my local music store in Western Colorado. The amp sounds great I think. We even ran it at a full 100 watts right there in the store to see what it was capable of, and it is quite loud I must say!
i like how they never use the slash les paul they got especially for this video haha! great demo chappers your amazing!
Chappers! Absolutely awesome playing as always! What would be particularly awesome though would be if you could do a video going though some of that slash style soloing that you had on the go. Cheers man! Again sounded brilliant, keep it up!!
WOW the tone of this amp is incredible!
Also the tone of this hairy man is quite awesome as well.... ;-)
Yes! I haven't even seen it yet, but this is the video I've wanted to watch for AGES! Thumbs up x1,000,000 to the Chappers!!! :-)
Adam Lee hey calm down
Nice demo, good details and put it through its paces. Makes me want one.
Thanks Chappers.
First off Great video and the amp sounds awesome.
2nd of all, Thumbs Up for bringing out the jack daniels in true slash, and rock n roll fashion!
@dimlightbulb10 I think that's the main point that I wanted to get accross, even if you are not a Slash fan this is still a really great amp for any serious rock/blues guitarist.
It's got all those classic tones you know and love from Marshall plus tons of useful fuctionality for home/beroom use.
I really liked it ;-)
Damn the Strat sounds awesome with it. Clean up with the volume knob is excellent. I want one and I don't even play metal...
nice video, been looking forward to this!
cheers from Slovenia
Damn. Someone beat me to it. I love you too Rob Chappers! You're one big bundle of awesomeness!
out to get me riff was completly spot on!!!
@RobChappers keep up the good work Chap, you're doing a great job !!!
Watching this makes me want a Marshall even more than I already do.
Thank you. I've played thru English tube amps set for UK voltage thru a voltage regulator here in America and have thought they sounded awesome. It's just that I've never done a side-by-side comparison. I must say that I'm impressed with the sturdiness of UK/Irish plugs vs. American ones though...
Best sounding Marshall in years
YJM demo for the win :-) Hope you're doing a demo of the YJM soon.
Love the candy apple Yngwie strat too.
Always a guitar ive fancied but never got my hands on
Keep rocking dude

yo Chappers at 04:57 you play a killer bend!
Fair play man!

jack+gear demos=win
that's a gooooooregous sounding set up
Its pretty awesome watchin' Chappers play those tasty licks, I can see him savoring them in his mouth as he rips them out :D
Grats, you've just made Sweet Child O'mine sound like it was plugged in an 8-bit atari.
a huge slash fan. Many of em out there
@audiotrax, I have a 99' studio, a Buckethead Signature, a 09 traditional pro, 12' standard HONEYBURST, and a very inexpensive 11, studio (60s) P90s.

I agree, this one doesn't sound like AFD album. This is a complete new sound from marshall
5.02, That there my friends is a WIN face! :) Keep up the good work Chapper's and Anderton's!
I've got this Marshall AFD100. It is a master piece art. If you can afford, buy one. Don't think Marshall will invest another project seriously like this one.
Thats some fierce rock tone, alright! Sounds great!
I love when other people say "you suck at playing guitar" when they don't have any videos of themself playing. Like that husktwat guy..
Thanks man, gonna learn it right away ! rock on!
Great.... now i have to buy one... thanks
Dave Putnaerglis there are only a few of them. On ebay it's about 3000 pounds
Awesome video. I love the AFD100!!
@Recklessroads Thanks mate, I really appreciate that... these demo's take ages to shoot, film, edit etc so it's great to get feedback like this ;-)
@Vandude13 Glad to be of service sir ;-)
There's a 5watt version of this amp about now, essentially a class 5 with gain controls and the like.
nice show !
the afd is a BEAST !!!
i thought all of the epi goldtops were sold out :s , brilliant demo again guys!
Very impressed.. Killer demo! I wouldn't have expected this to be so smooth - like a CRANKED marshall.. Generally, I don't like the sound of a Marshall, when it's outside the mix of a band... This one (and these hands) sound great, even solo...
Great demo.... great jobs duders!
On behalf of Norway, we love you
wow with the 59 reissue it sounds perfect, identical to the record
If only I could afford The Guitar and Amp Head!!!!
AWESOME VIDEO!!
" BUY OUR THINGS! " You clever Brits and your clever subliminal marketing techniques. WOW!
slash didnt actually use a modded 1959T (or #39 as is known), the 1959T was used in rehearsals and he specifically requested it for recordings but SIR sent him stock #36 which was a non tremolo version that had the same mod which was done by tim caswell and added an extra gain stage

Dude, that is some sick rock noise, I think that's my next head unit if I'm not careful haha
Like the Mustang fighter in WWII we again see an Anglo-American combination with fantastic results
the Epiphone's tone sounds amzing!!!
maybe better than the Gibson before
Love the face when playing Sweet Child...
Great demo guys. The best demo Ive heard yet of this amp. What cab and speakers and Mic please?
I had it and HATED IT ! The slash tone truly comes from a les paul with slash signature Aph2s Alninco 2 pickups.
Those pickups are the secret sauce.
Sounds killer!
best job in the world i wish i worked in a guitar shop that would be cool
Blackstar HT series will get you there with a bit of tweaking, Ive got the HT20 and I love it!

Oh yeah! i got one of these yesterday!!!
That Sir, is a tasty Les Paul! Sounds pretty damn good too!
with this rig.... a simple lick will sound awesome... killer tone :S
THIS MAN IS MY HERO
I'm curious when that was. For the last few years, LPs are Pleked, which ensures even frets and excellent intonation. Of course there are QC issues as production increases. Blackstar for sure man. For bedroom shit the HT5 or even HT1 will get you damn nice tube tone for real cheap.
Les Paul + Marshall + JACK DANIELS
Too much awesomeness at one time.
Agree dude
he sounds like slash in the beginning :D sick amp!
awesome sounding amp, good demo :)
Nice work sir, playing was awesome as usual (personally, I think it was all down to the setup!!) ;-) \m/
absolutely grand !
