    In this video we're talking about a free long toss program for youth baseball players. Now, in this video I don't really give any distances or number of throws, but that's just the thing. Youth baseball players need to start listening to their arm. If they are tired, tight, sore, or hurting, they shouldn't be throwing, but if they are not any of those 4 things then they can let it fly and stretch out their long toss to a good distance. Get some good extension on the way out and then really fire those balls in on the way in. By listening to the arm the player will know when it's good to stop throwing with so much intensity and will begin to cool down. Just trust your arm when doing long toss and don't push to get to certain numbers because if you're tired you could be doing more harm than good with your long toss program. So I hope this video helps even though it's not a free long toss program for youth baseball players it is a good fundamental of what is needed for a good long toss program and in reality is the long toss program.

    Great video and great point about intensity being key and not distance. My cold weather kids, no excuses. The basement and a net or mattress will get you through the snow!!! NJ always go 💯💪🏽

    Great point- I play, coach and work as a strength coach, and I use the Junior J-Bands for warm-up. The adult is heavy enough to actually use for strength development.

    Hey coach I am the only senior on my high school team who has been trying to make he varsity team for the past few years. I spent the past two years absolutely busting my ass to get better (and I have gotten considerably better) and found myself not getting any playing time even as a senior. I don't want to waste my time any more and am thinking about quitting despite my love for baseball. Everybody I talk to whether it be teammates or teammates parents don't even know why I'm not playing. I was just wondering if I should quit or not, because I have too much self respect to get screwed over like this. Thanks.

      mango_666 that’s a hard one for me to answer since I don’t know you or your situation. I think this is one for you to decide but I don’t ever like to give up on something unless I’ve given it absolutely everything I’ve got.

    I didn’t hear you point out a max distance, what would you put it at? I don’t see any benefit from throwing any farther than 180 ft (unless you’re an outfielder) because it’s entirely different throwing mechanics

      Joseph Butler. As a pitcher myself, Ive seen vast improvement in myself when I long toss. I agree that there are different mechanics involved when your pitching, playing outfield or play infield. But your arm will get stronger with long toss. There really is no set distance you should throw, but its all about intensity and getting your whole body into the throw

      JC W I will agree intensity is key, as you’re training fast twitch muscles which improve the overall speed of your body and therefore velocity but I don’t believe there is very much to gain from strengthening the arm beyond arm health. The arm just doesn’t contribute that much to velocity

      Joseph Butler I would have to disagree with that. Yes, like 80% of your speed comes from your body... But your arm is absolutely key. There are studies conducted that reflect distance and velocity. I think its 300ft means you can throw about 90-ish. And take for instance a body builder. Hes not going to throw very fast, its those fast twitch muscles in your arm that you build from throwing...Long toss. But yes, your body is key in throwing as well

      JC W The problem with the arm argument are studies showing that high schoolers have a faster arm speed than major leaguers. If you’re interested I’ll try to find the studies

      Joseph Butler oh yeah totally... Arm speed is totally emphasized in high school. Not arm care... thats why there are so many injuries. Arm care>arm speed

      Try some high-tee drills and one handed tee drills. For the one handed drills, use your top hand.

      Imagine the bottom of the bat handle (like where the length and weight normally are labeled) facing the pitcher the majority of the swing
