Ironically, he also played a professor in American History X; becoming a professor being a reason they suggested he left acting. Might not have been as the lead, but he was a key character in the story.
You gotta mention Leonard Whiting's starring role in the fantastic (and fantastically scary!) TV movie "Frankenstein: The True Story" , w/ Whiting as Doctor F (to say "made for TV" movie doesn't do credit to its impact. A movie "Event" on NBC, it had a screenplay by Christopher Freaking Isherwood! NBC showed it regularly for years thereafter). Why Whiting didn't go on to become a much bigger star after THAT was mystery...
I saw that movie several times as a kid. Any time it was on I would make a point of watching it. It made me realize that my crush on Leonard Whiting was really a crush on him playing Romeo. I didn't get any of the same feels from him as Victor Frankenstein.
@@Frazzled_Chameleon aren’t you just a beacon of hope. You have no idea what emotional pain others have to deal with. Keep your judgment to yourself. It contributes nothing of value.
I am surprised you didn't mention Jaye Davidson, who was not a trained actor but got an Oscar nomination for The Crying Game. Since then he only did one movie role (because they paid him 1 million for it) and after that he didn't want to act anymore.
Anyone remember Martin Hewitt? He starred in another Franco Zeffirelli film, Endless Love, opposite Brook Shields. I remember an interview with him at the time where he said he didn't intend to fade into obscurity like other young men who had starred in Zeffirelli movies. He did continue to act, but mostly in low budget horror films and "erotic thrillers" that played late at night on Cinemax.
Also, not mentioned is Adam Rich who was Nicholas Bradford on Eight is Enough. He appeared in a few movies and TV shows but did not land another big role as he did in the 1977 hit TV show.
One of my biggest letdowns was Lance Guest's career. In 1985 he played Alex Rogan in The Last Starfighter. Amazing movie, and I thought the start of an amazing career. I don't know what happened, but I do know two words: Jaws IV. 😞. The last I saw him he starred in the 2008 SyFy movie Bird Flu Horror.
DS9 was actually Avery Brooks second TV success. He was also Hawk on "Spenser For Hire", and was so iconic that the writers of DS9 had him contractually bound to look a different way, to distance Sisko from Hawk. That's why Sisko shaved his head in Season 4. Brooks renewed his contract, but renegotiated it to allow him to look the way he wanted to look.
In talking about Leonard Whiting, you forgot to mention that he starred as "Victor Frankenstein" in the 1973 film FRANKENSTEIN: THE TRUE STORY and that he provided some of the spoken parts in the classic Alan Parsons album TALES OF MYSTERY AND IMAGINATION.
I remember Jennifer Grey in "It's Like, You Know', a Seinfeld-type show set in L.A., about a NY author writing a book about how NY is better than L.A., but then staying and meeting new friends. The recurring joke on the series involving Jennifer Grey is that she was playing herself, but people didn't believe that she was Jennifer Grey from "Dirty Dancing" (as she had had her nosejob by this stage).
Let's not forget, Avery Brooks is a fantastic jazz musician and he played jazz after Star Trek, at numerous southern jazz festivals, and onstage jazz too! His music? Fantastic, just as we'd hoped. I love this actor, He's a great man and his creativity is evident in all he does.
His heart and career belonged way much more to the STAGE and Theatre for years both before and long after Exorcist! He was actually offered and turned down "Taxi Driver" (1976) true story, so I guess his rejecting was De Niro's major gain!
On the James Bond documentary/film Everything or Nothing from 2012, I’m sure George Lazenby says he was fired because the producers weren’t impressed by his appearance at the premiere and his reluctance to appear more “Bondlike!” I think there were obviously other reasons too, but I haven’t watched it in so long so can’t fully remember 🙃 Also, George Lazenby’s performance in OHMSS was NOT awful! He might not be the best Bond (Roger Moore imo 😏) but he was great for that film!
@@catofthecastle1681 There's something to be said about that thought. He was around 30 when he did Mermaids I think he was losing that young look from Sixteen Candles he'd done when he was in his 20s. But I think he could have kept acting had he wanted to, he and his wife wanted to get out though.
I live near the school where Danny’s actor works. Haven’t met him in person but a few people who have taken his class will attest that he doesn’t like to talk about The Shining.
I hear she regretted it. I personally think she looked better when she won DWTS in her latter years than she did in her youth during her 80s movies. Perhaps because of her nose surgery honestly. I think it was a good decision.
I can guarantee she was pressured into it by Hollywood people. The amount of actors who get nose jobs (even when the majority of people would think they didn’t need one) is astounding.

Funny how the narrator said that DS9 wasn't successful as TNG but asked any Star trek fan, they would tell it was a better series. Better writing, better story telling and better character development.
Every season they went head to head, DS9 cleaned Voyager's clock. 95-96 season: DS9 average: 6.61 million viewers, Voyager: 5.68 million viewers 96-97 season: DS9 average: 5.76 million viewers, Voyager: 4.73 million viewers 97-98 season: DS9 average: 4.96 million viewers, Voyager: 4.24 million viewers 98-99 season: DS9 average: 4.04 million viewers, Voyager 3.44 million viewers. And that was despite the fact that Paramount heavily promoted Voyager, the flagship show for UPN, as opposed to DS9, which was in syndication. In New York, they even aired opposite each other at times.
Leonard whiting and Peter Ostrum made both of the movies they are famous for better because they were in them. Leonard WAS Romeo and Peter Was Charlie - both completely believable and you could not see the acting - what more could you ask for.
Analyses like this make me crazy. Avery Brooks was a HUGE success as Hawk on Spenser: For Hire! Geez. Why include him in a montage of actors who've "disappeared" after a quick meteoric rise?
Amber Heard was a fairly known presence for well over a decade before Aquaman. She had a small guest role in Zombieland and played the younger version of Charlize Theron’s character in North Country which saw Theron get an Oscar nomination. That said, I will say the thing with Johnny Depp isn’t going to do her any favors.
@@Gemnist98 Well she was relatively unknown until she landed Aquaman. I've only been following the U.K. case from a few videos I've seen on TH-cam...if what they're saying is true, I highly doubt any studio will ever hire her again....and there's another trial she's facing in the U.S. too.

What's crazy is pretty much all of the Bond actors quit the role too, Connery, Lazenby, Dalton and Brosnan were all asked to return after their last films but declined, though it's disputed whether or not Moore was.
i don't think Brosnan quit. He lost the part when they decided to do the reboots, and I think Dalton quit because he got tired of waiting for a new script after :License to Kill"
I liked Captain Sisko I mean he was tough likeable and relatable yeah sure he wasn't Picard but he is what we should have as a leader what's not to like.
Beachboytyler David Patrick Kelly and James Remar have appeared other stuff since The Warriors. David Patrick Kelly costarred in Commando as one the villains. I think Sonny Landham appeared as a uniform cop in the Warriors and he costarred in 48Hrs and Predator as one of Arnie's team.
The original Tuck Everlasting movie (1981)..shown on the Disney Channel. The 2 lead characters: Paul Flessa (Jesse Tuck) & Margaret Chamberlain (Winnie Foster)..both disappeared after the movie.

He wanted to be in a Tony-Winning Musical he toured with Into The Woods. He wanted to direct, he did. He and his wife have an amazing charity bringing theater to urban children.
Oh please.... Lazenby is full of it. I mean, what's he supposed to say; the truth? That his agent/manager was incompetent. And that he himself was a fool for listening to such blatantly bad advice. That he squandered his big break in Life so utterly completely? Also, it wasn't just butting heads with the Big man in charge either. After the film, Lazenby refused to do promotions for it. When he finally agreed, he'd show up with hippie-style long hair and a full beard. Not even bothering to dress up. He behaved like an immature, egotistical, self-centered Primaddona. Ironically his actions made it clear that no one in the industry would offer him any huge roles afterwards. So now he's pretending he has no regrets over sabotaging his own career that could have led to continued fame and millions of dollars.
I saw Jennifer Grey in the show "It's Like...You Know..". One of the running gags throughout the series was that no-one believed that she was actually Jennifer Grey, because of her nose-job.
M. Tissera I’ve heard mixed things. From he was just tired of the Hollywood scene to he wasn’t getting many roles and fans were not the nicest to him I think. But he bought a farm in Montana I believe and lives there with his family. I could be totally wrong though
M. Tissera he was doing ok for a few years after but at some point the roles he was taking were really bad and in 2010 he stopped acting for 4 years. After that he’s acted again but only in B films. He’s semiretired and away from the spotlight. He doesn’t have any current projects but he’s rumored to become Anakin again in the Disney Obi Wan series with Ewan McGregor.
These people are on nothing roles Jennifer Grey had a fairly good run for 10 yeats before Dirty Dancing and a few roles after She doesnt meet your criteria for this list.
Tim O'Kelly was incredible in Targets (Boris Karloff's last major film), but, aside from playing Dan Williams in the Hawaii Five-O pilot (as in "Book em' Danno"), he then virtually disappeared. We could mention Klinton Spilsbury from the 1980s Lone Ranger movie, who never acted again after that, but compared to Armie Hammer in the 2013 film (virtually a non-entity thanks to Johnny Depp), he's not as bad as we all considered him to be.
I don't know who Tim O'Kelly was or is, but I'm pretty sure Charles McArthur played Danny Williams. His parents were the famous writer Ben Hecht and Kitty Carlisle (of early game show To Tell The Truth fame) I do remember he was adopted. Why the difference in all their last names? Not a clue. It's Hollywood, Jake. He also starred in "No Man is an Island" around 1962. I just saw it through the Old Movies app. Can't remember anything else he did after Hawaii 50, but he must have been financially well off from residuals and his parent's estate.
Kali; Sorry, my apologies. You meant the pilot for Hawaii 50, of course. O'Kelly played Dano in the pilot. They went with James MacArthur for the series due to his film experience in Disney films and some major releases including a key role in "The Bedford Incident" with Richard Widmark and Sidney Poitier, not "No Man is an Island" (my screwup). Since the other cast members were all local Hawaiians the producers needed actors familiar to TV audiences to sell the show. Ironic that the use of real Hawaiians in most of the recurring and support roles is what makes the show so good in retrospect. Also, MacArthur was the son (adopted) of the great actress Helen Hayes and her husband the playwright and author Charles MacArthur (another screwup by me). Hayes had a guest role in at least one Hawaii 50 where she and her son were clearly having fun acting together. Dorothy Gish, another great actress, was his godmother and Ben Hecht was a close friend of his parents. He apparently was quite busy both before and after Hawaii 50, and was quite well off financially, according to Wikipedia. Tim O'Kelly has a very small Wikipedia article. Apparently, he only did "Targets", the 50 pilot, and one other small role. Then he disappeared from public view until his death from heart disease in 1990. Sorry for the misinformation and doubting you.
@@brianmccarthy5557 No worries. Actually, I didn't know O'Kelly had passed on so long ago. Still, he was good in Targets, and I wish he had done more work.

I remember Avery Brooks as Hawke from Spencer for Hire. One of my favorite detective shows.
Being happy ,more important than being famous .
Leonard Whiting also sang and is actually featured on the debut album of The Alan Parsons Project.
Oh wow thx for that i didn't know!! 👍
I love the new time stamps added
Same
No one "jumped" when Danny sees the twins in the hallway, it wasn't that kind of movie.
Whoever wrote this probably never saw it.
I love when young actors use their money to go to school and pursue a different career.
Jodi Foster and James Franco are two that I know of that paused their careers to pursue degrees. Jodi at Yale and James at Columbia.
Not an actor, but Rivers Cuomo from Weezer went to Harvard to study music, with a Platinum record on his application.
They don't let showbiz destroy them.
Instead of getting stupidly high on drugs, addicted to painkillers, arrested for DUI, and hitting rock bottom?
@@Frazzled_Chameleon aren’t you just a beacon of hope. You have no idea what emotional pain others have to deal with. Keep your judgment to yourself. It contributes nothing of value.
Avery Brooks also played Sweeney in American History X. one of the best movies ever !
Wasn't he in Terminator 2?
@@DeportedFire no he DID NOT play Miles Dyson... lol :)
Lazenby... George Lazenby. The tragically underrated Bond.
I’m sorry, but for me that’d be Timothy Dalton.
I think it's really cool that Peter Ostrum's currently best known as the guy we call when the cow's gaving birthing issues!
Avery Brooks has a pretty good career. Not sure why he's on this list.
I am surprised you didn't mention Jaye Davidson, who was not a trained actor but got an Oscar nomination for The Crying Game. Since then he only did one movie role (because they paid him 1 million for it) and after that he didn't want to act anymore.
Other students from Leonard Whiting's school used to say that if you saw him in the halls you wouldn't look twice.
Brooks did one of the best ads for IBM for Y2k “They promised us flying cars....I want flying cars!!!”
I always wondered what happened to Leonard Whiting, had quite a crush on him after Romeo & Juliet!
Well, now you know: he got old and bald ! Lol
He had his body frozen and returned as Zac Efron
Me 2!!!!!!!
Leonard did Diacomo Cassanova in Italian ,stage , children books .🥰🥰🥰
@@jean-mi1825 As do most men...
Avery Brooks was famous before DS9. He was in Spencer. Do your research
Also, not mentioned is Adam Rich who was Nicholas Bradford on Eight is Enough. He appeared in a few movies and TV shows but did not land another big role as he did in the 1977 hit TV show.
Jaye Davidson from 'The Crying Game' and the original 'Stargate' movie......
I can’t believe they missed that one. Jaye is THE reason I even watched the video!
a great actor!
Amazing in The Crying Game but then what could he have done really?
That's who I was thinking of. I think he should have won the Oscar for The Crying Game and not Gene Hackman.
But he has kept working with dozens of other works so hardly fits this list.
Deep Space 9 is my favorite Star Trek series. I will always have a place in my heart for the original, but DS9 is superior to all the others.
Thx for the reminder!! 👍
He is brilliant, intelligent and inspiring human being!
Nice to hear many of them are happy with their lives.
you should have also included Carrie Henn from the 1986 movie Aliens
Jason Miller was terrific as Father Damian Karras in The Exorcist. I never saw him in another good movie, then he passed away.
His heart and career belonged way much more to the STAGE and Theatre for years both before and long after Exorcist! He was actually offered and turned down "Taxi Driver" (1976) true story, so I guess his rejecting was De Niro's major gain!
On the James Bond documentary/film Everything or Nothing from 2012, I’m sure George Lazenby says he was fired because the producers weren’t impressed by his appearance at the premiere and his reluctance to appear more “Bondlike!” I think there were obviously other reasons too, but I haven’t watched it in so long so can’t fully remember 🙃
Also, George Lazenby’s performance in OHMSS was NOT awful! He might not be the best Bond (Roger Moore imo 😏) but he was great for that film!
James letts He was great! Saw a documentary about him, it was very interesting
Roger Moore was great.
Michael Schoeffling from Sixteen Candles and Mermaids also under the radar whatever happened to him?
Gilie's Mesh i think he quit acting and became a carpenter
He’s got a furniture business and lives anonymously.
He wasn’t as attractive in later life!
Lazenby - The one Bond actor, no one remembers xD
Avery Brooks was awesome as Benjamin Sisko. I want a father like him^^
Unless you're a Bond fan....and there are plenty of them.
Why did Jennifer get rid of her nose? She was SO beautiful to me.
I hear she regretted it. I personally think she looked better when she won DWTS in her latter years than she did in her youth during her 80s movies. Perhaps because of her nose surgery honestly. I think it was a good decision.
Well, she sort of always looked like The Chicken Lady. But she was right... one second a star, the next second just another girl.
Did you also notice that Jennifer's Eye color changed in the photo as well?
I can guarantee she was pressured into it by Hollywood people. The amount of actors who get nose jobs (even when the majority of people would think they didn’t need one) is astounding.
@@sparrowwilson4514 that's sad to me. As a kid I was ALWAYS in love with Jennifer. I get the insecurities, but man...something it about gave her an exotic look. Same with Zellweger. My God, when someone pointed her out I didn't believe it.
Deep space nine is 10x the series Voyager was. Avery was bad ass as Sisko
Sisko was great once he lost the hair and grew the beard
Whole-heartedly agree
Avery was bad ass as Hawk in Spencer for Hire as well.
Funny how the narrator said that DS9 wasn't successful as TNG but asked any Star trek fan, they would tell it was a better series. Better writing, better story telling and better character development.
Every season they went head to head, DS9 cleaned Voyager's clock.
95-96 season: DS9 average: 6.61 million viewers, Voyager: 5.68 million viewers
96-97 season: DS9 average: 5.76 million viewers, Voyager: 4.73 million viewers
97-98 season: DS9 average: 4.96 million viewers, Voyager: 4.24 million viewers
98-99 season: DS9 average: 4.04 million viewers, Voyager 3.44 million viewers.
I remember Avery on Spencer for Hire....this was not mentioned. He was so cool and intelligent.
Analyses like this make me crazy. Avery Brooks was a HUGE success as Hawk on Spenser: For Hire! Geez. Why include him in a montage of actors who've "disappeared" after a quick meteoric rise?
Grey was amazing in Red dawn.
Marie Falconetti played Joan of Arc in a silent movie, her only one, and is considered one of the greatest actresses ever.
Something tells me Amber Heard will be joining this list soon, lol.
I've only been following the U.K. case from a few videos I've seen on TH-cam...if what they're saying is true, I highly doubt any studio will ever hire her again....and there's another trial she's facing in the U.S. too.
@@GSP-76 There are audio recordings of her admitting that Depp never stuck her, she beat him, she cut the end of his finger off and she will use her p pass so nobody will believe him.
Amber is seen, but should not be heard.
@@thewizzard3150 I see what ya' did there. 😊
I will always remember Zach Galligan for the movie Waxwork. It’s such an awesome horror film that deserves more recognition. I saw him recently in Hatchet 3, one of my favorite horror movie series of recent times.
LOL. We just watched Waxwork last night. Deborah Foreman was also in that movie and we had just watched Valley Girl (1983) on Valentine's Day and were watching the couple other movies she did before disappearing.
Dan Loyd wasn't the only one who didn't find "The Shining" scary. I'm still wondering what the fuss was about.
Thank You!!
I hope that George Lazenby sacked his agent.
Right. At least he had a cool re-occurring role on The Pretender.
What's crazy is pretty much all of the Bond actors quit the role too, Connery, Lazenby, Dalton and Brosnan were all asked to return after their last films but declined, though it's disputed whether or not Moore was.
Craig was going to quit too but they brought him back
i don't think Brosnan quit. He lost the part when they decided to do the reboots, and I think Dalton quit because he got tired of waiting for a new script after :License to Kill"
Leonard Whiting sang on an Alan Parsons Project song in 1976, The Raven, which was also the first ever song to use a vocoder.
The actor who played Charlie became a vet!! that's awesome
McNeil was also one of the stars of Masters Of The Universe.
With Courtney Cox
wasn't it a huge flop or something?
@@lambert2332 I enjoyed it as a kid.
@@fournierman I don't say it's unenjoyable (I haven't watched it), but it's hardly a big role on the video's terms, is it?
Very interesting
I liked Captain Sisko I mean he was tough likeable and relatable yeah sure he wasn't Picard but he is what we should have as a leader what's not to like.
Awesome 👍
Leonard Whiting looks like he could be Brent Corrigan's father.
Everyone from The Warriors (1979) classic
Except for the guy who played Ajax. He's actually been in other stuff after the Warriors.
He was Lord Raven in a couple Mortal Combat movies and was in the girl next door
James Bond is over. James Bond is one of the biggest movie franchise ever. James Bond will never die.
Leonard Whiting did Cassanova Younger Years version Italian and Empire of the Sun stage as well.
The original Tuck Everlasting movie (1981)..shown on the Disney Channel. The 2 lead characters: Paul Flessa (Jesse Tuck) & Margaret Chamberlain (Winnie Foster)..both disappeared after the movie.
Nice video 👌
Robbie McNeal is an amazing man, he wanted to be in a feature movie, he did Masters of the Universe, he wanted to do TV, he did.
It's like the Movie Version of a One Hit Wonder in The Music Business. They are touted as the next big thing but they fade out.
I recall George Lazenby playing the role of Brigadier General J.Johnston Pettigrew in the film "Gettysburg" 1993,a great film.
Hayden Christensen kinda disappeared after Star Wars which is disappointing cause he was such a good actor but he did it for a good reason
What's the reason?
M. Tissera I think he got kinda tired of it and wanted to spend more time with his wife and daughter
M. Tissera I’ve heard mixed things. From he was just tired of the Hollywood scene to he wasn’t getting many roles and fans were not the nicest to him I think. But he bought a farm in Montana I believe and lives there with his family. I could be totally wrong though
Shattered Glass was a great movie and he did leagues better there than in Star Wars.
Thanks
this very good
I loved Avery Brooks as Sisko!
Jennifer Grey's best movie is Red Dawn, and it wasn't even mentioned.
Becausse she never got fame with that one
@@thegamingchannel9023 Yeah, she did. It quite literally launched her career.

Noah Hathaway?
Robbie Duncan McNiel got his start on All My Children.

Jennifer Grey had a fairly good run for 10 yeats before Dirty Dancing and a few roles after
She doesnt meet your criteria for this list.
Kali;
Sorry, my apologies.
