I guess that’s why they couldn’t get Henry Cavill’s moustache of...?
Tattoos take a very long time to cover with make up and the results are often mixed. More often than not you can still see the tattoos under the make up. Then take into account that make up runs and fades while you have it on, blending skin tones over random shades of ink is incredibly tricky, and while you have your extremely over paid actors on set, you need them filming scenes, not sat in a make up chair receiving endless touch ups over something you'll still see in the end result anyway. It's far easier to film the scene as is, and then pay somebody to take their time and painstakingly remove the tattoo over months.
Cos it don't work well. It's been done in the past, CGI removes Tattoos completely. Henry Rollins had his Black Flag tattoos hidden by Makeup in a couple of TV shows and moovies I saw him in, there was a lil blotch on his neck haha.

To be fair, I guess some CGI does suck in the case of those that are meant to be seen. Comparing for example AVATAR and TRANSFORMERS, then the quality would not be based on being invisible but instead being believable, i.e. to blend in with the real world and not enter "uncanny valley." Also of course a different criteria again for Animated Movies such as those by Pixar. But yeah in general CGI in live action movies were meant to be invisible. Sometimes tho it really is meant to be seen and be awesome.
"Captain Marvel" is expected to be the first film to use the de-aging effect for nearly the entire movie, in this case on Samuel L. Jackson as a younger Nick Fury.

1. Dakota Johnson in 50 shades when she was naked. CGI had to give her bushes. And the guy had a butt double. 2. Nicholas Cage in ghost rider has a ghost rider tattoo so they had to hide it. They say his abs were cgi but Eva Mendez says they were real. 3 Christian narit in games of thrones. His penis was fake it was a prosthetic penis. Airbrushing out a thong he had to wear. Paul Rubens (peewee Hermin) cgi was used with makeup and tape was used to de age the actor. 4. The cast of Glee, they all had acne covered on their faces cause they ugly. Jk 5. Jessica alba on being naked in 2010 “machete” she wasn’t actually nude they used cgi underwear. 6. About homeland, cover Danes baby bump. Not important ... 7. Captain America Steve Rogers, obviously his body was cgi for the first movie. 8.. this list is too long I’m done
Re: #7 - The cgi on Chris Evans' body in CA The First Avenger was in putting his face over the face of the skinny guy that they hired to play the pre - super soldier Steve Rogers.
I was looking for this comment. I am glad someone posted it. I actually like the older version of RDJ more. He is ruggedly handsome now. Back then he was soft and pretty.
8:37 NO, the ACTOR worked to recreate his mannerisms, modellers worked to recreate his appearance and animators matched the mannerisms to the appearance.
This movies don't even compare to the new technology of Deep Fake. Search TH-camr and see how Jim Carrey's face is put on Jack Nicholson's face in Shinning. Be prepared to have you mind blown, and all this was made by a guy with a computer and an app at home.
You really should. We who work in the vfx industry never get a chance to shine because each piece of imagery is such a collaborative effort that we can't really take credit just for ourselves. We also spend most of time in front of our screen and tools and are happy to just deliver something amazing at the end of th deadline.
1) Lola is apparently the best anti aging cgi company 2) Tony Spark did not create B.A.R.F., he just re-titled what Mysterio created when working for Stark
The way they worded it about Dakota was a bit rude, not gonna lie. Like I don’t particularly like her, but leave the girl alone about whether she chooses to shave or not - is it hurting you? 🤷🏼♀️
Curtis Joseph That would be fair enough in pretty much every other case, but for that fact that choosing to shave “down there” is an extremely personal and individual thing, that doesn’t actually really affect anyone and shouldn’t be scrutinised - even if one is acting in such an explicit film.
I'm pretty sure it's only being commented on because the film makers used cgi to give her character pubic hair. It's directly related to the subject of this video
You need to check your anxiety level. I like the bsckground music cause I listen to the commentary only and music fades away but still makes it more fun
Chris Evans' bulking up isn't the only time massive bodies caused problems. Arnold Schwarzenegger was at his peak when he filmed Conan the Barbarian and The Terminator, and found that his arms were so large that he couldn't wield his characters' sword properly. He had to alter his workout to allow his arms to shrink so as to not continue being musclebound.
Man, I remember when that came out, thinking, "how in the hell did they do that?". At the time digitally de-aging someone forv that amount of screen time was unheard of. And it looked perfect! That whole movie is totally underappreciated
That's a good question. I've heard some actresses actually can't because already have laser or they've been waxed so much that the hair doesn't come back or it comes back funny. But even then there are little wigs for that. I think they're called "merkins". I think that would still be cheaper than digital hairs.😄
I don't know about you guys but whenever I see CGI like this in movies I remain unconvinced. I find it easy to spot. The only one I didn't know that was CGI was Jessica Alba's, I'm guessing because I didn't really focus on her because Michelle Rodriguez was much hotter in that movie.
On the show Moonlighting, Cybil Shepherd's lead *character was NOT pregnant* but continued to be very openly portrayed by the hugely pregnant (with twins IIRC) actress all the way. The whole hilarious thing was lamp-shaded on screen rather than trying to hide her bump in the normal ways.
The biggest problem I had with Xmen flashback scene was not that he was younger in the face, but that he didn't have a wheelchair, since we learned he had has that since the war, and the scene of him walking to the house was in modern times, not only did they make him younger, they made him healed, voila :D
These days I honestly don’t think tattoos are a big deal , maybe if you have like full sleeves or half sleeves. But like 1 or 2 of them on your body , I’m pretty sure they can make it unnoticed with there fancy tech stuff , or makeup depending on how big or colorful the tatt is.
Nick: You like comic books consequently, you end up in over-the-top hooky bad movies. It was funny/strange and interesting in Kiss of Death. Most of your movies are too similar now.
I like Dakota Johnson, she's unique but I think that that role didn't suit her. Kat Dennings (IMO) is more voluptuous and bit more attractive than Natalie, but I think that's up to personal preference. Natalie is just really tiny, cute girl though.
And then there's the easy approach to rejuvenating an actor. In the 2009 vampire movie "Suck", there's a flashback that shows how Malcolm McDowell's character "Eddie Van Helsing" first became a vampire hunter. They simply cut in footage from his 1973 picture "Oh Lucky Man".
Thank god for the commercial in the middle of the video, I wasn't sure that it was boring enough for me to go do something else with my time and then there was a commercial in the middle of the Pee Wee Herman segment: I was outta there.
I understand the Glee use of CGI. Pimples change in severity and can go away quickly. Just for continuity, it would be wise to just remove them. Imagine it takes days to shoot an episode, and they aren't shot in order. Also consider any re-shoots of scenes and you can see the impact a pimple can have.
man these studios have some of the best looking CGI, but i also blame them for spoiling the general audience. small video production companies like us get ridiculous requests from clients, thinking that CGI takes no effort and requires very little man hours because "everything is done by the computers", expecting horrendously tight deadline and extremely cheap pricing.
What other digitally enhanced roles should've made this list?
Jeff Bridges, Tron: Legacy.

Marvel is nailing it with the de-aging. It didn't even look off to me in Antman & the Wasp
Captain Marvel will be the first film to use it for the whole movie, on Samuel L. Jackson.
next ASSman and the WOP
Ant Man and the Wasp’s opening scene had me like Robert Downey Jr. at the end of this video: “my god, she was beautiful!”
Then she shows up again later in the movie looking pretty much the same. What a woman.
but ... it was mostly Lola not Marvel. They just paid a ridiculous sum for the hard work.
They used some of that on Brie Larson's ass to make it look bigger. Well that and the ass model
They did a great job with Michael Douglas in Ant-Man too.
Mark Spalding yes also Kurt Russel in GoftG2.
They looked exactly like in the 80es :-)
True but at the same time it was hard to believe even de-aged Michael Douglas had the six pack that his Ant Man sported.
Not to mention RDJ in Civil War
I think it’s safe to say that Marvel has cornered the market on superhero flashbacks, although it helps immensely that most of the people they’ve de-aged have had long film careers so there is plenty of archival material to pull from. I gotta think it would be easier and cheaper to cover tattoos with makeup rather than CGI.
I want to believe that too. I dont understand why they didn't but they must have had a decent reason

Its simply wasteful to spend that amount of $ on this stuff
Cos it don't work well. It's been done in the past, CGI removes Tattoos completely. Henry Rollins had his Black Flag tattoos hidden by Makeup in a couple of TV shows and moovies I saw him in, there was a lil blotch on his neck haha.
Since the 80s Hollywood has made Tom Cruise appear as tall as his co-stars... Now THATS hollywood magic!
In Interview with the Vampire Brad Pitt walked in a trench that was dug alongside of Tom Cruise in order to even out their heights.
That's how ridiculous he is about his image
They were doing that with William Shatner in Star Trek. Leonard Nimoy was taller so every scene with the two Shatner had to be placed higher.
Mulder and Scully?
It's been going on for a lot longer than that. Robert Redford is only 5'4". Most of his movies had him standing on boxes to look as tall as his co-stars.
Wow marvel can make their actors young but DC can't remove a moustache

The last comment from Robert Downey Jr was hilarious: "omg, he was so beautiful! What happened?" :P
I think he looks better older. He's aged really well.
then it was ruined by jimmy fallon
he looked good both times! he was hot in the 80s (my time frame) and he has aged into a very handsome gentleman.

Paul Rubens (peewee Hermin) cgi was used with makeup and tape was used to de age the actor.
4. The cast of Glee, they all had acne covered on their faces cause they ugly. Jk
"CGI had to give her bushes?" Hell, who was the lucky bastard with that job??!!
@@netgrok the director says that was fun on the clip. He also says he chose her butt. Also removed Bush not added.
utubedestroysmytime no they added, pay attention to the video
Re: #7 - The cgi on Chris Evans' body in CA The First Avenger was in putting his face over the face of the skinny guy that they hired to play the pre - super soldier Steve Rogers.
The following was brought to you by Lola Visual Effects. When you question reality it's Lola.
You're still beautiful , Robert Downey Junior.
I was looking for this comment. I am glad someone posted it. I actually like the older version of RDJ more. He is ruggedly handsome now. Back then he was soft and pretty.
That captain America one was AWESOME!
The fact that you talked about Fifty Shades of Grey gives you negative points.
Awesome!
dang! A young Kurt Russell yummie!😉
8:37 NO, the ACTOR worked to recreate his mannerisms, modellers worked to recreate his appearance and animators matched the mannerisms to the appearance.
They have to edit out acne in shows because of continuity.
This movies don't even compare to the new technology of Deep Fake. Search TH-camr and see how Jim Carrey's face is put on Jack Nicholson's face in Shinning. Be prepared to have you mind blown, and all this was made by a guy with a computer and an app at home.
This list has to be like 1% of the complete list.
I have now gained massive respect for Lola, a company I had never heard of before this video.
You really should. We who work in the vfx industry never get a chance to shine because each piece of imagery is such a collaborative effort that we can't really take credit just for ourselves. We also spend most of time in front of our screen and tools and are happy to just deliver something amazing at the end of th deadline.
1) Lola is apparently the best anti aging cgi company
2) Tony Spark did not create B.A.R.F., he just re-titled what Mysterio created when working for Stark
The way they worded it about Dakota was a bit rude, not gonna lie. Like I don’t particularly like her, but leave the girl alone about whether she chooses to shave or not - is it hurting you? 🤷🏼♀️
Really though. The idea of someone being attacked over having pubic hair is ridiculous.
After all it's called Pubic hair, not Public hair!
The salaries commanded by the actors says that such a sacrifice be worth a discussion.
Damn Lola's good at what they do, first time I saw GotG vol II and seeing Kurt, I was stunned at how well they'd youthed him.
"My God he was beautiful, what happened!?" I love RDJ so much 😂😂
Marvel KILLED it with the de-aging (Kurt Russell, Michael Douglas, Rob Downey, Jr)...so realistic. well done
I'm fine with listening to the repeated background "music" for a couple of minutes, but for 12 minutes?! No thanks...
Christoffer Hannevig it's kind of like Muzak to me, I didn't really notice it over the commentary
Christoffer Hannevig yeah
You need to check your anxiety level. I like the bsckground music cause I listen to the commentary only and music fades away but still makes it more fun
Chris Evans' bulking up isn't the only time massive bodies caused problems. Arnold Schwarzenegger was at his peak when he filmed Conan the Barbarian and The Terminator, and found that his arms were so large that he couldn't wield his characters' sword properly. He had to alter his workout to allow his arms to shrink so as to not continue being musclebound.
Oliver Reed from Gladiator.
You forgot to mention the work in Tron Legacy (2010) with Jeff Bridges. To me, is one of the best works done.
Man, I remember when that came out, thinking, "how in the hell did they do that?".
At the time digitally de-aging someone forv that amount of screen time was unheard of. And it looked perfect!
That whole movie is totally underappreciated
couldn't they leave dakota grow her own bush? :D i mean that costed money
I was enjoying this video and then Jimmy Fallon's fake laugh ruins it at the end.
LOL
On the show Moonlighting, Cybil Shepherd's lead *character was NOT pregnant* but continued to be very openly portrayed by the hugely pregnant (with twins IIRC) actress all the way. The whole hilarious thing was lamp-shaded on screen rather than trying to hide her bump in the normal ways.
Nicole Cage need digital... what ever. It’s called body paint.
The biggest problem I had with Xmen flashback scene was not that he was younger in the face, but that he didn't have a wheelchair, since we learned he had has that since the war, and the scene of him walking to the house was in modern times, not only did they make him younger, they made him healed, voila :D
“If you can imagine it, the movie industry can spend a couple hundred million to put it up on the big screen.” But Harry Potter has blue eyes.
I don't get it. Did he have brown eyes in the book or something?
brileeka Green, and they talk about it in the books constantly.
@@Psychomech5 hmm well blue always seemed more fitting to me because my mom's madien name is Potter and they all have black hair and blue eyes.
They did wonders with Ewen McGregor on Star Wars too
Trimming her private area...OMG the Cinematographer actually commented on this in an interview... Hollywood, never stops amazing me with weirdness.
Michael Douglas- Antman
Johnny Depp - Pirates Of Caribbean:Dead men tell no tales
I work in VFX, all the best enhancements you will never even know about.
I thought they were gonna talk about Dakota’s forehead lmao
Paul Reubens for President 2020
In Thor the dark world kat dennings was actually de enhanced so that to highlight Natalie Portman coz kat is obviously way hotter than Natalie
Shrey Vaghela wait really?
Chyna Hardy yup I’m talking about kat dennings boobs
Kat Dennings is extremely hot I love her
Shrey Vaghela big facts.kat is sooooo hot 😩🤤
Boobs don't make u hot.
GREAT VIDEO.................
"What happened?"
You grew older, just like everybody else.
imho they should have just left the tattoo for Cage, it would have actually been a really subtle 4th wall break
Also missed the one in BvS when they CGId Henry Cavil Hair line so it would look like he is not balding and it wouldn’t be distracting
Captain Z Really? Neat
Call me weird but i think i would have loved to see Dakota Johnson's rug.
Thank god for the commercial in the middle of the video, I wasn't sure that it was boring enough for me to go do something else with my time and then there was a commercial in the middle of the Pee Wee Herman segment: I was outta there.
Chris Evans- the only actor too buff for the big screen.
Looper is the best, he deserves more than 5 million subscribers
Ryan Ferdows he has 3mil
IEditToPlease jb he still deserves more than 5 million subscribers
Hi Im Spy they deserve more than 5 million subscribers
it didn't zit well..... well done looper well done...
"My God, he was beautiful. What happened?"
man these studios have some of the best looking CGI, but i also blame them for spoiling the general audience. small video production companies like us get ridiculous requests from clients, thinking that CGI takes no effort and requires very little man hours because "everything is done by the computers", expecting horrendously tight deadline and extremely cheap pricing.
Didn't another channel do this list with the same ones?
Alex Wright That's what I was thinking, probably one where british guys are narrating
Eru Illuvatar that's called whatculture
Truly amazing.
