    exercises you recommend are perfect…except you need more focus on rear felt/shoulder stabilizing exercises…I like ATYs on crossover cables and also Krokov (sp?) raises

    I agree with you saying that swimmers typically don’t do enough strength and conditioning training. I have a rising 14 year old freshman who just made the highly competitive high school team. I have yet to see or hear anything about strength training from the coaches.
    What is safe for a rapidly growing 14 year old boy be in the gym doing?

      At that age it isn’t vital that they do a lot of strength training, ESPECIALLY if they do not have access to people to teach them proper technique. The risks of getting injured at that age greatly outweigh the benefits.
      However, if you do have access to someone to teach you proper technique for lifting and Olympic lifts go ahead and teach them slowly and work them up to weight slowly.
      Definitely would start with body weight exercises like pull ups, pushups, unweighted plyometrics, etc.
