You can't offer therapy to anyone anywhere in the world. Most licensing boards have strict rules about this and specifically state that therapists who are working with clients under their jurisdiction need to be licensed in that jurisdiction. Now, I am speaking specifically about licensed professional counselors, but I know from the various therapist groups that I'm involved with that other professions have similar, if not the same rules. Special allowances for temporary licenses or waivers were made towards the beginning of the pandemic, but those have largely, if not completely gone away. Always, always double-check with the board in an area you are considering offering therapy in before marketing yourself in that area.
Looks like our previous comment got deleted, but the main difference in billing is that you will simply change the location code to reflect "teletherapy" or online session. I'm a fan of Simple Practice as not only a billing and scheduling solution, but one that also offers secure video conferencing all within the platform!
Thanks for another great video! I'm an LPC....we can only see clients in the same state as we are licensed...even online? That was my understanding or maybe it's different depending on the license. Being able to see clients all over the world would open up so many more opportunities...so hoping I'm wrong here.
Would it be possible to start and have a private practice open M-Th , from the hours of 5pm-9pm and take insurance, while working at an agency during the day ? I’m conflicted and need some help. - Thanks, your videos are so helpful !
Hello John, thank you for this video. I'm newly starting out and would like to create a full online therapy practice. Would your fully booked package help me with this? I just took a look at it and thought it may, but I realize an online practice may have different requirements. Thank you again for your help.
Hey Dawn! I used to...but then I realized it made no sense! The client is receiving the same service...they are paying for your time, and you should not discount that. Hope this helps!
Great video as usual. Question, any idea who to talk to in order to make sure I have everything I need to start my online private practice? I live in HI and licensed in FL. Thanks!😁
It seems to me that contacting former clients goes into an ethical grey area. They may currently have a therapist they're working with and by contacting them---soliciting them, in essence-- you're putting them in a situation where they have to now possibly reject your solicitation, which is an emotional burden to them, to say the least. Beyond that, it just feels wrong to me to try to sell your services to former clients.
I am watching all your videos, each one is very helpful! I appreciate your help and time! You are super knowledgeable and helpful
so so glad Patricia! keep me posted on how you're doing :)

Thank you so much for making this video!!
you're very welcome, and thanks for tuning in :)
What are the differences with billing and what type of platform is needed to provide services regarding confidentiality?
John Clarke thanks for your reply. I would like a consult with you. I will try to set it up though your site.

Yes, you can generally only see clients who are physically present in states where you are licensed. Hoping this changes...

Do you do cheaper rates for online therapy?

@@privatepracticeworkshop5045 yes it makes sense as they have no extra expense with travel etc. In the comfort of their own home also. Thanks x
