I was pretty much tech illiterate a little bit over year ago. Then I started watching videos by Kenny, Luke and few other tech tubers. I've learned a ton since then and I also switched to Linux. So thank you for all the based content you've created for us to consoom
Computer hardware itself is really amazing. I am obsessed by how hardware works & how everything works together to form a functioning computer capable of general purpose computing. Like you can do essentially anything with now standard pieces of hardware & you can mix & match said pieces & for the most part they just work. Computers are such amazing bit of technology.
Mental Outlaw: Common Network Ports and Protocols Me, who just spent 2 hours trying to find online what fucking nonstandard port his mail service uses for IMAP: Ah yes I see
A good university would help you learn these topics much deeper. Giving you technical challenges to build services that use the protocols / rewrite the protocols, in order to gain a fair deeper understanding. Although most universities are trash
Dood luck dude, you got this if you study! Jason Dion's practice exams on Udemy are GODLY. Also, pick up the Go Ahead Get Certified book from Darrel Gibson. And of course Professor Messer :)
fun fact about ldap. the most popular open source replacement for it is OpenLDAP and they created the LMDB which was later modified to work for Monero and Howard Chu a guy associated with Openldap also created the randomx algorithm for monero to use as well.
Good video, I started studying for the CompTIA certificates about six months ago with the hope of landing an entry level IT job. I'm not asking for much, I'll take anything other than my current job lol
I tried today to host AdGuardHome or PiHole on google cloud using their free VM. But I couldn't figure out how to make it work so I gave up Any chance you could make a tutorial for that?
When configuring FTP clients and servers you have to set a range of tcp ports, either on the client side (active mode) or the server side (passive mode), so they can communicate. I used to think that those ports served as the medium for the data transfer, but it seems that I was wrong... what does their actual function is?
Got my router all setup. Got my PiHole running and a VPN from my phone into the router. The stupid router update broke everything and now when I try to get PiHole going I lose all internet access. I'm so discouraged I spent so much time setting all that up and now I don't know what's wrong.
I've been trying so hard to get a SMB file share off of peppermint OS and so far I've been able to get windows to see it on my network but it won't let me view files :(
I'm watching because I CANNOT remember the ports and their functions. I'm taking classes for the A+ exams at a community college because I had no knowledge prior. But the hardware class is so poorly constructed and the instructor barely ever teaches. The OS class had a much better instuctor, and I have that part down. I am losing focus now, however. I feel like I should give up! I need help!

I'm studying for the CompTIA Security+. This was really helpful.
You're going to put a lot of colleges out of business with these videos
Wait, I can go to college for this shit? Spewing I learnt it from the internet!!!
He explains it sooo much better than my Network+ book from my college course.

Good 😂
Giving my network exam on Friday.
THANK YOU.
Studying for my exam right now thanks man.
I love seeing you doing more of a tutorial/teaching type of video! More of this please.
Thanks, I'm studying for Sec+ myself
@Alex Jones thank you

@@xdptwin1 I am using Dion training, but I haven't heard of Prof Messer so I will take a peek
Couldn't we all just get together to use the port 69 for any kind of file transfer needs? That would really help with everyones' lack of serotonin
Thanks Mental Outlaw for another great educational video!
Cannot wait for more from you!
Keep it up my man!
I’m a visual learner so this works perfectly for me .. great content
I'm currently studying info security fundamentals, and I remember covering alot of these
I am studying computer science, trying to catch up with my network course and this was really good, thank you!
This is deadass the Lord's work you're doing helping us noobs🔥

god damn its like you read my mind. today i was thinking about network protocols and here it is!
Thanks, i'm sharing this content with some friends of interest! Plain simple and straight to the point, like a door for an interesting topic.
Telnet? _sips_ yep, that was a good remote access protocol
I mean, it was used when network was only on LAN
i still use it

lost it at the UDP vs TCP meme, I will forever think of this
Your videos are always top-notch. Amazing content and knowledge.
I didn't expect to be studying for my comptia a+ here
PS thank you mental outlaw for all of your security and safety information
when you're so early that you haven't even read the title yet
No one cares
Exactly what I was needing.

I like these videos about the basics.
AWESOME. That´s exactly what im trying to learn by memory
Quick, detailed and concise.
Indeed
good video, I got my sec+ 2 months ago so its nice seeing another video about these ports :)
You're info bytes ROCK man. Thank you!
HTTP/3 will actually use UDP instead of TCP. The protocol it will use is called QUIC, which is built on top of UDP.
Nice... Vedio..good one sir
Keep up the good content sir

Ports are just a way for your OS to know which incoming network request goes where
