- Nothing like a 300bhp+ 2.0 4 cylinder....but it's not a PD?? 👀
This BMW 320d M47 came in for a fresh GTB2260 turbo kit, 535d injectors, FMIC, 4 bar map sensor and a 2700 Bar rail pressure sensor! All paired with our custom tune, it has left us with 306bhp and just over 450lbs/ft!! 🤯
Could this become the new PD? Let us know what you think in the comments!

I’ve had 2 320ds with that engine and worked for a tuner when I had my first one. At the time, nobody was making any bits for them and this kind of spec was something I could only dream of. I was stuck with just a map and an exhaust.
It's my 3rd year with the m47, bought it back in 2021 when I was still living in Norway in the mountains from a mate.. Rwd, has a tune that goes to around 190 hp, and honestly, i was surprised, I wasn't a BMW guy, and especially having just moved to a country (before I lived in Ireland) where winter lasts over 6 months, getting an rwd was daunting, but i took it slow and easy, but over time got used to it, the DTC does an amazing job of catching any slips, and i had countless times passed places where plenty of awd cars ended up in a ditch, actually having that power control helped a few times to kick and turn the car in a direction where I could get grip.. Spent two years in the mountains doing crazy stuff having adventures with it, somehow ended up calling it Mad Max 🤣 main thing is having decent tires and overall good suspension, and it sticks well to the road (i prefer grip driving to drifting) mine has quite a few battle scars, most from stupid stuff rather than "spirited driving", the only time I had a crash with it, I was on shite tires and just didn't notice a red light, one front rebuild later, it's hankooks for both seasons. Have done 170kph on a highway during a heavy rainstorm with the highway basically flooded and it felt like driving on a sunny warm day, both tires and the DTC working together didn't feel like I was in danger at all. Unfortunately mine is succumbing to rust due to spending first 9 years of it's life next to Atlantic ocean up north in norway, already had to replace rear subframe, but doubt It'll last long, but I'm still having fun every day... 366336 km at the moment
Feck! Considering the M47 is axactly 4/6 of a 330 or 335d, block and head hardware is the same! Only cylinder count and number of Turbos is different!!! Impressive!
This in s 120d😊 would make a nice small weapon
M47 is so much better than any PD engine. Owned a few of both never had an engine related issue with an m47 but lost a few turbos a timing belt and even a cylinder head with PD engine
Agree plus the n47 is built out of a terrible material compared to a good old 163hp m47 where its a very reliable one forgot the name of the material
No way, this engine is made ou of plastic compared to an old 1.9 pd 130 or 150
@@blackmetalgoat9060 wym haha m47 legit better material than the n47 why you think you see so many 1 series in garages and 2011 e90s bcs they got the bad engine in them
i have fallen in love with the m47, my first car was a m57 and i was not sold on 4 cylinders but after buying a 318d e46 and doing some small mods to the engine i saw great(mods considered) power increase and still great fuel economy. My next step is intercooler, springs, intake and maybe turbo upgrate.
What hp and torque did you get from the original 115?
@@Mr330d im in the ballpark of 150hp now and 300nm. I hope to see it somewhere around 200hp and 400-450nm
@@libertyradicals3770 318d is very rare in Ireland
Same engine in the E46 and the biggest thing that people don’t talk about when they say just get a 330d they completely disregard that the 320d is almost 300kg lighter
Do you think the 330d is 300kg heavier than the 320d?! The weight difference is about 120kg. 100kg for the engine and around 20kg for the bigger brakes, intercooler, and other parts. If you are looking for power there is no reason to go for the 320d unless you cannot get insurance on the 330d or there is a huge difference in purchase price. By the time you have upgraded the injectors, turbo, intercooler, and brakes you may as well have got the 330d.
@@NomadJRG on the e46 with the same engines there’s almost a 300kg difference. That 100kg in the engine is almost all put out in front of the front struts changing the balance of the car significantly. I’m not against buying a 330d they’re lovely cars, but in a fast road/track situation I’d rather throw power at the 320cd
@@bull7618You know the weight difference between a E46 320cd & 330cd is only 125kg right?
😂😂😂😂😂@@bull7618
300? What
Stage 1.5 map 260bhp , m47 engines are miles better due to timing chain at front of the engine unlike n47 which are at the rear and suffer from oil starvation which induces stretch! M47!!! always coming strong :)
I’ve always had a hate towards bmw due to the stupid smoke maps and popcorn maps but this is changing my mind quite a bit. Proper family wagon
I would still get a 330d, remap and you will have the same power. Properly save yourself £5k too
on 3 series I agree, but imagine the same on 120d, those did not came with 6cyl diesels
@@flippy9133 better still buy a 335d and remap that.
@flippy9133 you could probably put the 3.0 diesel in the 1 series for way less then £5k too lol
@@HighMiler330dnah the limitations of the 335d are quick to find without getting new turbo/s 330d you can get up to the same power with a 35d intercooler
@@travisfs7526 if your on about e9x series then no chance. 335d can easily map to 360 and with an intercooler and r90 fuel pump can go 400+ on standard turbos
Sorry about my comment on the fabia comparison. This is good content that I would like to see more of🎉
Brilliant well done loved that video reminded me of an old top gear road review and that's a good thing 😁
The m47 lump is also in the freelander 1 td4, I wonder if 300bhp could be had out of one of them?
if the rest of the car can take it!
When can we see a video of a SRS pd130/150 conversion caddy / similar? A more of a budget friendly one perhaps?
Its something we can look into doing at some point 👍
Howryas iv got a e46 touring with an m47 on stage 2 map going for stage 3 this month can someone tell me the best bolt on bits i can get handy to get more boost and power 😅😅
darkside ..
Timing Chains only really fail due to poor oil and low pressure due to servicing, I’ve changed quite a few, I had a manual that had snapped doing 80mph on motorway and it did no damage to the engine at all! New chain kit and it was good to go, but then I’ve had a automatic that jumped timing on a cold start and smashed all 8 intake rockers 🤷🏼♂️ both good engines tho 👌
next can try turbos from M67 4.4 V8 - swap into M57N2 with alloy block? just curious :D
Sure there is a way it could be done, a lot of work though
Mines pushing 245bhp with hybrid turbo, 320d but mine on the other hand is an n47 manual
You had the chain done? I have a 2011 N47 320D, and dont know whether to go ahead with it. (at 87k at the minute).
@@n3x610 got the chain done at 120k even though I had no signs of it going bad. Hybrid turbo was worth it
@@n3x610 I own a 318d with the n47. The chain was done at 130k approx. Now that car has 300k on the stock turbo and flywheel. The turbo is due for a change though.

I'm sorry to hear that. Did you fix it and keep the car?
What did you do with the maf sensor in this kit ? Also with the breather pipe, the connected is only about 5m so how come yours is much bigger.
Remove it from the software and run off MAP. The ID of the pipe is similar but it is silicone so OD is a lot thicker than plastic.
@@DarksideDevelopmentscheers ! The breather pipe connected to intake is surely bigger than 5mm in the video tho no ? I was going to run a 5mm (diameter of breather outlet) vacuum line to the intake but looking at yours it’s much bigger.
Very nice seeing road builds, I enjoy them. However smoke was too much on this one I think.
Is the car for sale ? 🤷
By the way, from which year is this 320D and is it the 150 hp model ?
What are the exact modifications ?
Its not ours, this was the 177hp model.

They are still fairly good!
I've tuned many 20d's and 30d's. Trust me when I say just get a 30d. A lot more value for money.
Not only are they more reliable but somehow they're also cheaper
I would much prefer a 3.0 litre over a 2.0 but atm insurance is for young drivers we have to choose the 2
@@smalls377by the time you’ve spent money on these upgrades the price would’ve balanced out
Unfortunately in my country taxes for 3.0 m57 are +300€ per year compared to m47 . Ad on that 1-2L consuption and basically baned euro4 import from other Eu countries and m57 car is from start minimum 2000€ more.
@@nikolakarovic5964 If you're going for a with a m57 on the documents then yes. But most people swap the 2 liter so on papper its still a 2 l. But if you buy an e46 make sure to stay away from the 100 kw models and go for the 110 kw because the 100kw models are way less reliable
Hello my friend, I am searching to buy a 3 series BMW and I have found a bmw 320d E90 2009 with the N47 engine and also I have found a bmw 320i E90 2009 I believe that is better to buy the diesel because It has a turbo and the petrol car doesn’t have turbo. But I am scared because of the wrong timing that the N47 engine has. What’s your opinion should I buy the diesel one so I can better modified it because it has the turbo or should I get the petrol one?
If you're wanting to modify it, 320d definitely. Plus the fuel savings will be far better than the petrol. But yes, the issue with the timing belt is an expensive fix, especially if they fail. If the car has been looked after well and potentially had the chains done already, it is a good little car to have
@@DarksideDevelopments and also another question the 320d max out only on 5k rpm and the 320i on 8k rpm does that affect me in any way when I modify it ? Or I shouldn’t care about the rpm’s ?

Just get a 330D M57 and remap it should be the sam price or less then this with mods
Insurance wise, it'll be easier for younger drivers with a 20d or if you want a fun little track car it's a mega option!
@@DarksideDevelopments Yeah totally agree.
how about the clutch/gearbox??
have a feeling that the 330d gearbox is the same as 320d, well if you direct swapped it wouldnt fit but the 320d is designed with the same power specs as the 330d but slightly tuned down so shouldnt be a problem, bmws r solid boxes anyway can handle high power
Gearbox should be able to handle the power, no problem. The customer should be coming in for a clutch upgrade soon enough too but it handled it well on the test
"gonna like"..............what's not to like? Happy New Year to you all, here's to the future. "VAGE"..... is nice though.

Yes we do all of our own in house custom remaps
Can this be done on the B47 engine?
Not this kit but if you drop us an email to sales@darksidedevelopments.co.uk with reg/vin we can check part numbers and see if we have anything to fit
Hi, i have done this to my n47d20 engine. It has stage 2 but i need to get it mapped to this modification. Anyone know where and how to remap for custom stage like this?
If the kit is from us we can tune it, if not we cannot recommend any other tuners. We would recommend looking on the FB pages or Forums.
Bit confused lads, I've enquired about building a 320d and was emailed back by someone in the office telling me it wouldn't be worth it and told me to buy a 330d? So any idea why your now singing it's praise???
maybe this customer wanted this done specfically, for the price difference of a 320d to a 330d your better of getting a 330d, the 6cyl engine handles a lot lot more power and it would be cheaper to upgrade as it would cost less and be more reliable to get higher power from it unlike the 4 cyls
How much power did you want?
Can this mod be done on a. N47?

2.5 Bar
Is this the same engine in the 120d Curious ?
Early ones had the m47, then they went to the n47, think it was around 2007 they swapped, brother in law has a 57 plate 118d that is an n47 that also ate its timing chain.

All the petrol cars can build up so much power from forged engines: when are the diesel cars getting the same treatment: will we ever see a 650kw N57: ___
I was hoping you gents could reply:
does it fit?
It does fit
I find these bmws to be very nice... however comparing to VAG the way bmw engines have failed when pushed, right here on this channel... i feel that it is too risky to push them too much.
That is because they are bad tuned not because engines are bad, m57 have been over 700whp and m47 can go over 450whp with stock internals. But you need good tuner
What about all the other BMWs we have done that haven't failed? The 2 main failures have been the N47 (the timing chain snapped) which is a common issue on those engines and our M57 race car that had an uncommon injector issue.
Why do you need 2700bar rail sensor, if the 219's are quite on the limit with 1700-1800bar?
And the kit costing 2.5k is ridicoulus
talking from experience with 330hp m47
The stock sensor will max out at 1800 BAR so on the limit IF you're running 1800 BAR.
How much do you think a kit including a brand new Garrett turbo, tubular manifold, stainless downpipe, intake, gaskets, oil lines and all of the development should be?
@@DarksideDevelopments as you wont need more than 1800bar. 330hp is doable with 1600-1700bar.
Im just saying, the hp goal is achievable with less than half of it
Does the hpfp dies at top end rpms like N47 due to too much duration ? Because the main issue at early N47 engines(2006-2011) when you want for more fuel duration ,it cant keep the pressure , goes under 120 bars and car goes to limp
@@aknk6759 M47 has R70. It will be fine for the 219 injectors. But you cannot go over a certain limit, thats why it will cause a sudden pressure drop and probably a limp mode
Anything less than 6 cylinder isn’t proper a BMW.
So the E30 m3 is not a BMW, even tho its probably the most iconic BMW ever made? or the Legendary M10 engine BMW made for 26 years and made it into the 2002 turbo? Such a braindead statement.. i also love the Inline 6 engines of BMW, but it would be more true to say that a 8 cylinder BMW isn't a proper BMW..
