Top boys once again, creeping closer to that 500hp everyone wants to see. Id love to see the difference on the road between this spec and a deleted mapped 35d Love the work as always!
I've done DPF delete last weekend on my F31 N57D30B the sound it is realy amazing, one of the other owners already deleted the muffler hope this will not give any problems at our yearly inspection (APK for the dutch) If so I will fix it by building an muffler in it wich I could delete again easley. And for this video, I again learned a lot like all those other video's! Again many thanks as I go learning how the welld next month and I will try to welld a bigger intake I really love to maintain the car by my own and learn as much as possible of how everything works togethere. So many thanks for sharing all your experience/knowledge!
Not if its sucking air from the engine bay, nice cold air feeds from outside with a box to separate the engine bay heat. What about a hot summer in town with traffic, surely its gonna heat soak breathing from the engine bay?
If you hot lapped it possibly. However, 8.10s in the 100 - 200 is a result that speaks for itself. Looks tricky to design a high flow filter system for that space.
Turbo cars doesn’t really matter where it is as the intercooler does its job anyway so will always increase power. N/A then it won’t make a difference and may lose power
How much power do you need in traffic? When moving, the factory cold air feed does a pretty good job at providing the filter with cold air and cooling that size of the engine bay. The 'hot' components (turbo, manifold, downpipe) are seperated by the engine at the other side. As already commented, the IAT's are mainly affected by the efficiency of the turbo and intercooler
@@DarksideDevelopments The lower you start with the better surely? breathing air from the engine bay is always going to be a higher starting temperature than direct from the outside? Especially with pipework snaking around the engine, unless you have a super efficient/large cooler.
So its me being boring as always but the likely reason they had to squash the stock pipe will be to do with clearance to the bonnet dictated by crash regulation and the movement of the engine (dynamic clearance). Its so if a human ends up on the bonnet the bonnet has some give before hitting the top of the engine. Looks awesome by the way, always tempted by a 435d!
This is very interesting work, I'm curious about it. 🤔 I do have a few questions though: 1) is this the stock drive train and if yes, how capable is it to handle substantially increased stress from all the extra power? 2) are egr and dpf deleted on this car, and how would the car perform with the stock setup? and 3) how much additional hardware would be required to handle all this, beside the bigger turbo and intercooler? P.S. I'm interested in 30d since I own F10 530d (July 2015)
Would've been good too see the intake tested before the 3.5" downpipe was on really, a bit of a bigger turbo for that 35d & it'd easily go over 500hp! My 30d 425hp now, we'll see what this intake does next week back to back hopefully some good results! Maybe a 3.5" downpipe next & hopefully push to 500hp!
@@b1tter606 I will once fitted, my tuner wasn't too happy about fitting it without a heat sheild in the place it is, I'm now 444hp/850nm, so once i rig up some cold air feeds & a heat sheild I'll get some back to back tests, without changing to a 3.5" downpipe because it doesn't make a fair test, to me the downpipe made more of a difference. This 35d is nearly 30hp more than me, but i think I'll catch it once I change to a 3.5" downpipe
They can have issues but the 6 cylinder diesels normally display signs when the chain is worn, a rattle from cold for a few seconds for example. It is rare the chains on these just snap without prior warning unlike the N47 engines.
So the old software, 3.5 Down pipe and new intake actually looks like the better drivable result, but slightly less peak power… below 2k the 3” with new intake and the 3.5” with new intake and software revision seem to both loose like 100lbft and 50 or so bhp? It’s hard to see because of graph colour - do you think cams make a difference here? It looks awesome regardless, just an interesting observation.
This can be just how the dyno loads it up but realistically the gearbox will always drop down to above 2000rpm when accelerating so you would never notice a difference on the road. Cams would likely make a small difference on this too but quite a lot of work for smaller gains when at this level
This can be just how the dyno loads it up but realistically the gearbox will always drop down to above 2000rpm when accelerating so you would never notice a difference on the road
Impressive power figures and the 0-60 is amazing for a 1.7t family saloon. A couple of things I'm assuming: the engine cover can't be fitted due to the enlarged cross pipe diameter and a strut brace would be the same.
What are the realistic gains if your turbo is stock? Ive got dpf swirl flat and egr delete with full 3.5 inch exhaust and currently 333bhp and 740nm of torque. How much more bhp could i see with this induction? Too add also stock intercooler im about to order yours 🙈
What Dewalt fan can provide more air to a 3.0ltr twin turbo engine running over 20psi boost? The air going up the ram pipe at 100mph is going to be magnitudes more than an electric fan can produce!
@@DarksideDevelopments It`s a common problem for N57 that after 200k km it start to eat rods. Looks like the oil pump it`s not doing it`s job very well. An improved oil pump and a heat shield for the bottom of the engine might solve the problem
Nice, so with WMI and a revised tune it might hit 500bhp. Incredible work as always. I've got a 435d running your intercooler and a quantum tune.....saving up for the 3.5" downpipe, WMI and custom tune, cams too ideally....

Great to see some development going into redesigning the standard air intake on the 30/35 bmw at last.👍
Dark side doing us proud with the old oil burners😊
Wish we had a shop like your guys here in the states!
Great content and great results. Keen for some B57 testing with similar mods
The N57 engine platforms are highly capable even a simple map can see good figures let alone upgrading intakes boost etc.
Looking forward to seeing where this goes, would be interested in buying one. good work guys.

Intercoolers/charge coolers sort that out.

Have you ever looked at a tubular exhaust manifold for these? Std manifold looks to have very unequal tract lengths.
It's something we could look into but there isn't a lot of space around the engine for them and the 6 to 1 collector

I’m looking at getting a 30d xdrive, considering it’s xdrive would I better off getting the 35d ?
The 35d are are better out of the box but the 30d can also be upgraded and usually a bit cheaper to purchase in the first place.
The single turbo ones also sound way better, the 35d sounds good but more like a jet moving, whereas the 30d has a deeper growl
