For future reference to anyone trying to install these lights (or anything electrical) I suggest you DO NOT plug in the hot connecting wires before snaking any and all wires to the locations you need since you will most likely short out the wires when you touch them together either by taping them or just touching them to pass them thru whatever space you need to. I suspect that's what happened here when you blew the fuse since you plugged in the wire harness where the existing light is before placing all the cables where they needed to go. Thanks for the installation help and hints of installing these lights.
Amazing installation video and so much easier than a lot of the other videos. I ended up snaking it through the left grommet as the right one was just too tight. Buddy taping it to a zip tie and pushing rather than pulling was the way to go. The key was taking it slowly and not losing my patience! Thanks for a really helpful video. I don't think I would have tried without your video!
Thanks for taking the time to create these video's as they are so helpful for those of us who look to improve our RAV 4's with these incredibly useful mods. 👍
BIG DISCLAIMER for installing the rear hatch lights on the RAV4 2022 models: they have changed the plugs on the 2022+ RAV4s and the wiring harness/piggy-back plug used on these lighting kits will not work (the new plug is way smaller). I took off the entire trim, installed and routed the entire cable before discovering this, and had to manually re-wire/solder the wiring harness with my own connector to make it work (not particularly hard, but definitely not plug-and-play. Thankfully, they appear to be running the same power, so no issues once the plugs were changed over. If you're looking to install this on a 2022+ model of RAV4, just be aware it likely won't fit if you buy a kit previously made for a 2019-2021 model, unless they update the wiring harness supplied with them!
YES!!! I was about to buy these and after trying to install upgraded interior LED lights into my 2022 which didn’t work due to all videos showed swaps made on earlier model rav4s. I just knew mine would not work with these. Thank you for saving me time and confirming this issue! 😊👍
10:27 - Looks like the most difficult part is getting the wire through the grommit! Why not avoid squeezing the wire through and create a hole on both ends and run it parallel to it? Its exposed to the elements, but looks like the wire comes well insulated.
Next time you need to go through a wiring boot: fish a large zip tie though, tape (with electrical tape) the wire to fish to that, lube over the tape with a little bit of something like sunscreen.. it will slip right through
@@EVDude so i did get my Prime this past weekend and installed these lights on Monday night.... got those wires through easily with an 8" piece of coat hanger, electrical tape wrapped tightly, and a film of dish soap on there... heck, i even had a rear view mirror camera wire attached to the bundle and got the whole thing through that boot in seconds! Thanks for this video that helped guide my way to the install, these lights are awesome
@@stepheng2131 congrats on the R4P to begin with! 🎉🎉I hope you're enjoying it. Good to know you got better luck with your light install, did you use the big tube or small one?
@@EVDude i used the smaller diameter one on the right, since I didn't want to take any chances with the left side one that probably has cleaning fluid line in it
Thank you, thank you for this video! It just walked me through the process - I did the trailer wiring at the same time. A bit over 2 hours for both. My only major glitch with the lights was getting the wire through that short flex tube - same problem you had. I got it through with the black covering on thanks to WD-40. The lube did the trick.
15:14 instead of fishing the zip tie out, do it the other way around. just insert the tie from that hole! Anyways, love your videos and jealous of the prime! Opted for the hybrid xse instead cuz there was 2 years wait for the prime 🤦🏻♂️
Thanks for the tip and for watching my videos. Yeah it's very unfortunate about the wait time for the Prime. Maybe you can still put a deposit and sell your Hybrid RAV4 when you get the Prime? Resell value on Toyota's are usually pretty good.
I'm wondering if these can be somehow retrofitted to the prev Rav4 generations. I have a 2016 Limited AWD and can't find these liftgate lights even though they have the same trim covers with slightly diff shape.
@@EVDude thank you for all your help. You make great videos and it is greatly appreciated. Have you or anybody tried to install fog lights on a BZ? On another note, I have gotten as high as 127 kWh charging on a DC fast charger here in Las Vegas.
Are you worried that making these modifications will void your car warranty? If anything happens to the car's electronics, I can see Toyota blaming it on the modifications.
Thanks for watching! I'm not worried at all because I'm not cutting wires or replacing key electronic components of the car. Since it's only lights, I'm comfortable with doing these changes.
I got a letter last week about my Rav4 Prime that with my warranty on my vehicle that if I use any aftermarket parts or modify my vehicle in any way I void my warranty. I am located in the United States. Can anyone else confirm that they got this letter from Toyota?

What voltage is it? I don't want to wire that much.. if 5v I can just wire to a power bank and attach just the led at top of trunk

Can't believe you pulled this off using just one hand. I probably need double the time with 2 hands :-)

Thanks for the advice! 😁 I've tried it but everytime the electric tape would come off, probably not enough lube around it. 😔

What amp fuse did you use? I also blown mine.
Nice job on the lights. Will they turn on when you open the tailgate? Or only by touch?
They're connected to the orignal cargo light so they turn on when I open the tailgate.
Nice video. Can you do raptor light installation?
Hello, do you think these lights will work in a 23 RAV4 Prime?

Hey how did you replace the fuse? Have the same lights but I think the fuse is blown as well
There's a little cap in the wire that you can open and replace the fuse. I believe it's 3A.
Good lightning, but exaggerated with alle the wires and connectors, lol

That’s also led light, it’s not taking a lot of energies when you use it. Just receive mine, will take time to install it soon.

That will void your garanty if that installation cause trouble on your car. I have no stress about led light.
