@@romariohenry412 in my experience, to impress a woman you HAVE to smell good. Smelling 'normal' or 'clean' is fine, but it's not going to leave an impact on the girl. Lot of attraction is superficial at first, so it's not really just about good hygiene; you want to make the girl think about you afterwards. Smell is a big one for women. Guys assume the only way a girl likes you, is if you look a certain way; which has some validity. Of course if she doesn't find you physically attractive then your chances of attracting her are lower. But smelling great, good fashion sense and self confidence (approachability, physical contact, holding conversation) are very important to women, and I dare say more important than your physical looks.

As a woman I think this makes a lot of sense, those kinds of hugs are the best and make you feel protected comfortable. I think it should be mentioned however that you should always read the signs. If you stick out your hands for a hug and she reacts awkwardly it is likely because she doesn't like the idea of getting touched by you. Just don't force it cause that will put you 20 steps back and make her less comfortable around you :)

even the "correct hug" seems so akward. honest it depends on the height of you and the girl. and depends if she wraps her arms above yours or below yours. personally my favorite way to hug a girl that makes her feel special is going under her arms and wrapping my hands around her back. then you can actually give a meaningful hug and squeeze her a little, not too tight if your just friends because then your creepy.

If you dont do anything you will probably loose her to someone else (atleast if shes hot and gets a lot of attention from guys). I had quite a few lady friends/acquaintances and I would use this hugging method all the time (except when I didn't want to give the impression that I was interested). It not only gives a signal to her, but also help you get more comfortable in her personal space! Don't be afraid...if she lets you linger for a bit then it's obvious she's cool with you and willing to at least see if you will peruse for anything more. I thinks that's universal...not just in this country! Haha I hope this helps. I'm not trying that now as I recently made it official with my GF...but good luck to you!

I think that if a guy did it to you, and you did not fancy him, you'd weigh whether to give him a chance, right? Most girls I asked out hesitated for a bit (it usually helps to say you wanna grab a drink during the day instead of insta dinner+movie, I've found).
So in that case, HOW you ask her out (wording, intonation, body language) can make a difference, right? That might sound a bit manipulative, but it is just to get her to give you a chance. If it doesn't click, you'll find out on the date. It's about getting the chance to find out in the first place.

MrNicoJac I agree with you. In hindsight, my comment did come across as dogmatic. I was keeping in mind the type of guys who would keep asking a girl out and bide their time as they would hang out or speak with a girl.
It can come across as two faced at times. I have a lot of guy friends at work (I'm one of the few women who work here) and am running out of patience for people who act like they enjoy speaking with me but lose interest when I turn down a date (I try to be gentle about it).
I want to be able to speak person to person without worrying about possibly "friend-zoning" anyone.

Sadly, I catch myself doing it too. That is to say, my date/not-date criterion is looks; that's just what initially attracts me. I usually feel too superficial to walk up to a girl and just say: I wanna get to know you because you look hot." And not saying that aloud but having a normal convo while still thinking it makes me feel like a fake...
So it becomes very tempting to start out as "just friends" (aka not come across as a sexual predator) and then use something I like about her personality as a reason to ask her out.
But that way, my hesitation to not come across as a superficial arse creates the two-faced situation you lamented.....
I'd love to hear your view on this!
PS, as to your work situation: I prefer to be told by a girl WHY she doesn't fancy me. That way, I know how I can improve my approach next time, or I find out she is looking for something that just isn't me. Either way, I can then let it go.
But I have heard that some guys become really mean and sexist to protect their ego's, so I dunno if my advice would work in other cases :/

Most people can understand the whole "starting out as friends" phase, it's how you act after (possibly) being turned down.
If someone's being treated differently or outright ignored after turning someone down, it's pretty much proof that the "friendship" was just a tool. Pretty low.
I'm just talking in circles at this point.
But as a final note, I'm just completely sick of the "friend-zone" term. It's used for self pity and putting blame on someone else because things didn't work out for someone faking a friendship.

Interesting you should say this about guys asking you out. I remember a female friend a while back who moved overseas and when I caught up with her a year later, she said exactly the same thing about it being difficult to make guy friends, since she gets along better with guys than girls. The situation was resolved the usual way- by getting married and being off the market :)

I'm not an expert in relationships, but I disagree. It's strange when the men goes for the upper body of a girl. The opposite is better. At least in Brazil, the men always goes for the lower body - waist - and the women, for the upper body - neck. And... To make things more interesting, if you're having a good time with the girl, lift the her a bit. I don't know why, but, generally, girls like this sensation of being lifted.
About the time you spend hugging: the more intimacy you have, the longer you stay holding each other. Start shorter and goes increasing the duration, when you get to know her better. Be patient. Otherwise, the situation won't sound natural and things will become awkward. Relax. And smile to her.
When the women is interested, generally, we can feel by the way she hugs us. Several things can happen. Usually, she won't be the one breaking the hug. She can want to rest the head over the man's shoulder. She can, suddenly, hold you more tight - it's can be a signal of desire. Even can happen that she gets her face closer to the man's, waiting for a kiss.
Again, I'm not an expert. But I'm an affectionate person. So, I hug a lot. And I notice how people reacts to this kind of affection.
I think the lifting part is quite questionable. Maybe for teens it is a fun thing but I think many woman will feel out of control and maybe uncomfortable when you do that. A hug as shown here is more comfortable and protective and for me at least would put me much more at ease. If you are already very comfortable with each other (like when you are good friends and touch eachother more regularly) I can see it working though.
As a girl I can say that these examples are pretty true. For me at least. I HATE the one arm hug. It makes me feel really awkward and like you don't want to hug me but are doing it out of like.... You're FORCING it is what it feels like. The grannie hug is whatever unless the guy is like, REALLY trying to air hug you and not ACTUALLY hug you. I don't mind a bro hug now and again, but the last hug, the CORRECT hug is what I like for a first meeting situation. It does make me feel more friendly towards the other person because they're going RIGHT for it, they're not avoiding me. The other ones make me feel kinda bad honestly.

The BEST way to hug a girl you are interested in is to place your right hand in between her shoulder blades, and to place your left hand towards her lower back.
That's when you are dancing with her...The idea is to make as much physical contact with her without being creepy or moving too quick. If you are beyond the initial greeting and things are going well, I would think a bit more suggestive hug could work.

Once I greet hugged a girl and she was still holding me, while I was already letting go (I did not expected a long hug) the seccond time I answered the longer hug ( I interpreted it that she wanted a longer hug the next time) when saying good bye , and it was a nice memorable hug, she squeezed a bit.
