Belle is like a D&D NPC who was supposed to only be around for a one-off quest, only to stick around in the campaign longer than anyone planned, even the DM, and the DM isn't sure what to do with her but is doing their best to tell her story in the middle of the greater story. Honestly, Belle's story and character progression aren't so bad when they're told in one sitting instead of stretched out over several issues.
I know almost nothing about Sonic, I have no inherent interest in learning more about Sonic, and me clicking on this video was kind of a random fluke of procrastination... and yeah, within the first 3 minutes of the video I was already like "I wanna steal this idea for an NPC".
I hope Sage makes an appearance in IDW since it would be really interesting to see her and Belle's reactions & interactions with each other since they both represent different versions of Eggman's psyche
Belle already has Metal Sonic for that. They are antitheses and represent their creators well. Belle repairs; Metal destroys. Belle is meek; Metal is bold. Belle is... *sigh* good; Metal is evil.
"The IDW Sonic comics have done a great job portraying the struggles of humanity and incorporating them into their stories." That hits hard. We need more of this.
@@jojounicorn4610yeah unfortunately Sega seems to think that fans want Shadow to be edgy even though a lot of fans have made it clear they don’t want that.
@@jojounicorn4610Stereotyped how? There were writing restrictions on him for an extremely long time (I had no idea there was such. Pretty stupid hindsight) And honestly, I thought how they wrote him was pretty on key. The dude’s suffered a ton. It makes sense he was willing to be ‘the person’ who killed Eggman if the others couldn’t, because he doesn’t want them to suffer the same fate he did (as he spared the humans who attacked Space Colony Ark, choosing instead to run away with Maria as scared children) Then in the Metal Virus arc, he was suffering from massive guilt of not ignoring the others and just killing Eggman (when really, he should have felt guilty that he just walked off and didn’t stick around to guard ‘Mr.Tinker’ while there was an impersonator around.) and kept going non-stop with no sleep. That’s why he was so ‘edgy’ there. Top that, when Rouge yelled ‘Run’, he had a PTSD episode, remember how he ran with Maria but it got her killed. That’s why he tripled down instead of running off the virus. Beyond that, when I last saw him in IDW (during that ski resort arc) it seemed more like he just didn’t know how to interact with everyone, which makes sense since he grew up in an isolated space station, and everyone gets pretty snarky with him (they’re just trying to joke around, but makes sense how that’s off putting to someone who never experienced that before) Come ‘The Murder of Sonic The Hedgehog’, it seems like he’s starting to take steps to reach out and make connections, given he actually went to Amy’s birthday to participate in the game, and he took drastic steps to get her a gift she’d like (when he realized everyone else got her something) because it mattered to him to make her happy. And finally the biggest step of them all (because Amy insisted) he’s going to go to the concert with her some time after the game’s events. His standoffish nature makes sense when you take things into account. It makes sense he’s nervous about the idea of being rejected by the group, after what he initially did and with how he grew up with only a few people and only knew the same people every day. Of course he’s not going to be a social butterfly, but he IS actually trying now. He’s making steps, and I think storytelling with him will get better now :)
Belle, metal sonic and sage are the 3 eggman creations who exceed their original purpose. A puppet, a robot, A code. One wants the past, one wants respect, one purpose. In a way they are like parts of eggman's good side calling for help. Eggman wants respect and purpose but had them in the past. Like his 3 creations, he too is trapped in a way he cannot escape. It's just a theory but it makes you think. We never really knew why eggman is evil, he just chose it. A choice he could easily do for good.
@JokukranTheileochy Eggman is self-absorbed and thinks he's doing good. Comic issue #23 "I'm bringing peace and Unity to the world" with his brilliance. Of course, Sonic calls him out on it, but Eggman still believes he's right.
Sage: (finds a picture of Belle) Father? Who is this girl? Eggman: A remnant of... other times. Times from before I rebuilt the Empire. Sage: Is she my sister? Eggman: Think of her as more of a morally opposed cousin that happened to be built by my dead amnesia identity. Sage: Starline? Eggman: Starline. (Later...) Belle: Who are you? Sage: I was told to think of you as a morally-estranged cousin. I cannot deny that appellation, given what I have learned of you. Belle: ...I wish we could both have our dads in that man. Sage: Agreed. I would very much have liked a sister. However... Belle: Starline killing my dad? Sage: Indeed.
I don't think Sage is in the cards. The current canon of Frontiers is that it takes place "five years after IDW." Unless that changes, I doubt sage will be shown in the comics and even if she is it would not be any version of her we see in Frontiers.
@@lpsamyrose one of Ian Flynn's write-ups about the game years ago when people IMMEDIATELY asked for Sage to be put into the comic. Apparently Frontiers is meant to be like, the last game in the timeline period with the plot exploring the idea of the characters getting older and even growing apart and having their own adventures like how Amy basically says that after the game is over and they get back she's leaving to go find herself. They even have sonic finally admit his feelings for her to himself but point out that it's "too late now" like it's a forgone conclusion that they probably won't see each other again.
And then the fandom has omelette. I like to picture them as three sisters that are back at home when eggman is doing his shenanigans. Maybe that's just the Powerpuff girl fan in me
@@BrakSplashwhy would they just take characters or specific things from the comics to implement into the games if 1. Frontiers was trying to string all the games and lore together (with the exception of the archi comics for legal and license reasons) and 2. It would make no sense to exclude the IDW comics from the lore if Tangle is literally confirmed to be canon. In conclusion the IDW comics are canon to the games and are anteriorly relevant.
Belle is one of those characters that really shows that even if your creator is a monster who's name sends chills down everyone's spine, their legacy isn't your own. Likewise, Belle turned her tragedy into a drive to help other robots or people to be the best they can be, which very few can say they did. Sure, she was born from a falsehood and potential what if...but it doesn't change the fact she is a real being. A being that wants something everyone who is anyone desires as some point: a sense of belonging; purpose at most.
wow. as a victim of mental abuse from my father, this was incredibly eye-opening for me. I never thought I'd relate to the struggles of a Sonic character of all things. thank you for making this video
@SonicTheory96 thanks so much! I am doing much better than I was before as he's moved out, though some symptoms like to poke through. am working on healing at my own pace, though! I hope you know this video was very helpful for me and figuring out why I act the way I do, as I sometimes struggle to understand my mind and it's inner workings with touchy subjects like this. :>
All she wanted to do was do good as she was built to do. But when Mr. Tinker disappeared and Eggman resurfaced, she was unfairly turned on. Yet despite being turned on, she continues to do good, even if others may not see it that way. Mr. Tinker may be lost inside Eggman, but she continues to do good to keep his memory alive.
It’s gonna be weird once sage gets added to idw cannon. The two are very similar yet very different in important ways. Sage would probably superficially refer to belle as her sister and not understand why belle can’t accept eggman as her father. And belle might have complicated feelings about eggman creating another daughter with a twisted version of what her and Mr. Tinker had.
Funny thing is, it's not really _twisted_ so to speak about Eggman and Sage's relationship. Eggman legitimately cares for Sage's well-being and was downright hurt when she sacrificed herself to save him. Belle would probably be a bit mad and envious that Sage is getting what she wanted so badly. A genuinely caring father.
I'd say the two would be a perfect bridge if I'm being honest. Sage is basically exactly what Belle needs and Belle is exactly what Sage needs. Hard to convince me otherwise. And it makes sense given the writer (I think) wrote for both. And while yes Belle may feel hurt by this development I think Sage would basically change that outlook almost immediately upon a few interactions with eachother. Sage wants a family, even going out of her way to call Eggman father and his other creations brothers. Then she learns she has a sister? She even got access to Eggman's database to know the run down and the ability to simulate outcomes. Belle wants ivo's creations to basically be free and think for themselves and here Sage is pretty much doing just that only she still cares for Eggman as he is. Sage will try to be Belle's sister. Belle will try to get Sage away from Eggman. They'll clash in their goals, but it's ripe for the opportunity to just bond and grow as characters. And you can't tell me Sage and Belle just caring for one another won't be the most emotionally charged thing ever. That's just peak waiting to happen.
@videogollumer i mean metal sonic wont end up in scrapnik island because hes always retrieved and repaired. but Scrapnik Island is a perfect place for belle since the scrapniks might wanna welcome her
@@456tyso Oh no? What if he does, and that's where Eggman has to retrieve him from? What if the Scrapniks finally get off the island BEFORE they come across Metal's battered body? They may very well try to help him, just like Belle stupidly did. She hasn't exactly repented of that either. How can we trust any of them (Belle, Sigma, Mecha Sonic, etc.) to NOT repair him just because he was built by Eggman too?
@videogollumer But Belle already has a family within Restoration. Sure some see her as odd, but she has friends and support from many characters there. In support to defeat Eggman. I doubt she would trade that away to live in an island while her "father" is out there terrorizing people with robots.
I was the same this was surprise to me as a characther i only bought the old issues of archie comics all being comedy and now this new ones touch more mature themes
About Belle's interaction with Metal, I would like to note that he still stopped when she came in-between him and Sonic, rather than simply barrelling through her, and even when he did smack her aside, I think we can all tell that he didn't strike anywhere as near as hard as he could've. Whether that be due to sheer pragmatism (saving up energy to fight Sonic) or a degree of emotion, who can say.
I feel so sorry for Belle some people doesn't understand of what she's going through they just running their mouths and saying things that they don't know anything of how she feels.
Oh man, unrelated to the video, but to this day I'm floored by how nice the art on the IDW comics is. No offence to the old main archie comics, but sonic comics always had this kind of... Uncanny look to them. But IDW's main artists understands the sonic art style so perfectly, the expressions, the body dynamism, the backgrounds, the design sensibilities for new characters. Also, the writing is very good too. I never thought that the silly Pinocchio girl would've been such a rich character, is all very very comforting that finally the series is being handled by people who understands how to make Sonic appealing and filled with personality.
I wasn't familiar with her character but her origin is both tragic and triumphant. She finally receives validation and vindication in the end, showing us past trauma can be recovered from and healing is possible. 0
here is my take on Eggman and Belle's final moments that grin he makes makes me believe that he has plans for her, evil plans turning her from a Tinker into a Robotnik one day, by force
Remember during the camping trip when Amy used her cards to predict Belle’s future and looked freaked out at the card she had? That’s 100% going to be called back down the line.
I get it now. Eggman just was ignorant and oblivious of preserving nature and that is where sonic comes in to stop eggman's advancements. His love for tech blinds him i almost feel a bit bad for some reason, If only he turned on himself to stop his ignorance.
Eggman KNOWS what he's doing; he just doesn't care. He only seeks to gratify his own ego, and doesn't care WHO gets hurt in the process. He feels the world disrespected the Robotnik lineage's intelligence; now he's dead set convinced that murdering people and carving up nature as he sees fit will prove he's a genius. In the end, though, it only proves he's a ridiculous manchild who has missed out on ten years of fundamental hickory switch spanking.
Though we ended up having a trio of the "kids" thanks to both comics and games. Now if we happen to have cross over with the Underground trio due to alternate worlds crossing again...
Belle is my favourite character in all of Sonic media next to Cream, and this video perfectly analyses why that is. Her design is wonderful and her personality delightful. She’s one of the most unique characters in the series, and tackles an emotional subject of having family taken away and turning out to not be who you were raised to believe, which I applaud for Evan doing in a series such as this. Thank you for giving this character some much deserved spotlight. I will be sharing this around on my social :)
...Well, like shattered glass, it can't fully be put back together. Yes, after _considerable_ time, you can put the pieces back, but you'll always see the cracks and the altered view when looking through it. Kinda makes me think of the glass you see at church in a way, but in this case, it says and shows a different story: "Even if you 'fix' yourself, you'll always be a little bit broken; the scars, the 'cracks in the glass', will always show your struggles- but in a way, seeing that, seeing that you survived such hardship and move forward, being able to smile despite everything- makes the beauty and color of the soul shine that much brighter."
I don't why I said "now" like I only just became a fan. Belle was the reason I even got into the IDW comics with her adorable design. She's right up there with Whisper and Tangle as my favorite gals
@@OtioseFanaticSame here. I only started reading them because I heard some was going to be introduced back in 2020. I even went on to make a make version of her that I play on my channel.
I know that feeling all too well tge feeling of losing everyone you care about and finding out they are not the same as you knew them and the monsters they really are being abandoned and hurt by the people who were supposed to protect you and constantly being dragged into there drama even after the fact its not a feeling you can truly come back from especially when you have experienced it sonce the day you were born..
I'm sorry to hear that. Remember that there will always be those who care about you. I hope you can find comfort in this channel and the Sonic Community 💙
Belle is the main reason I started reading the Sonic IDW comics and what inspired me to create my make Gender-bent version and channel. My boy Belle has put his pat behind him and now has a little sister built and based on Belle's original mouse concept design.
Damn, I cried when I read the note part. . .and I did it again when you covered it, great vid! Edit: Also I'd be down to see a vid on Shadow during the Imperial City incident
I really like her story she’s gives off luke skywalker vibes how she’s looking for the once good in her father like Luke hopefully at the end of the series of comics or something similar I hope they keep with the pinocchio theme and make her a real girl at the end
belle is a good person and id like to see her help as many of her siblings as possible while coming to terms with the likelihood that her father will never return to being mr tinker. I actually read the entire IDW comics run of sonic the hedgehog because I like this video so much and after having read it and the ties, I think the best way for Bell to help her siblings is on scrapnik Island because the inhabitants are in need of repairs, and have already decided to no longer follow their mega maniacal father.
How can people say this is the worst version of Sonic? It seems so mature yet so Sonic like. I will read these comics, they seem to good to be ignored.
Probably bc of the mostly generic bgs and their... limited nature. Note how the comic never introduced anything as major as the games. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the IDW comics but part of me feels how limited the comic is in sceneries and character progression ; although it doesn't bother me all that much.
i think it's time i stop agreeing with people so willingly, this Sonic rocks, to hell with his "rambles" against his fight with Surge... he's tried his hardest to reason with her and things didn't end up exactly how he's imagined... even if the mandates keep the better parts of these characters less apparent, i can't help but still love them all the same...
@@kaxcommentssomethingREAL oh I agree the writing is great and I love the characters but Sega isn't helping with these limitations it could be so much better if Sega extended the leash even if it's just a little
I never fully reflected on just how critical a father's active role in his daughter's personal development is. We often think of father and son but do not really talk about what a father means to a girl.
I love how they incorporated pinocchio into sonic, this is genius writing and i love it all 🥺🥺🥺 literally almost every franchise has to have a reference of it in their work lmao I havent played lies of p but i also love that you put their music into this video!! :]
I genuinely hope they're able to "revive" the Motobug that Belle befriended. It _is_ in the realm of possibility, cuz robots _can_ be reactivated, right?
Thank you so much for this breakdown of Belle's character in the story IDW is telling, I think you laid out her journey and struggles marvelously. As someone who's been a Sonic fan since game 1, it's thrilling to see such stories being told in this world with such robust and, if I may be personal, resonant characters. I won't lie, Tails was since 1992 the character in the canon that I related to the most, as the younger sibling, "Player 2", sympathetic engineer seeing the humanity in the machine, but in Belle I have actually come to find an even more compelling character *as* the machine sympathizing with herself. As you said, her healing must come from within, and that's a hard journey and one I can really relate to. Belle has rapidly become my favorite character in the franchise, and that's no small feat given how much Tails has meant to me as a character over the years! I have to give kudos to the writers working for IDW with their treatment of Belle, along with so many other characters I believe they're handling very well. Tangle and Whisper, to name a few more. I hope we see more of Belle's journey going forward, she's such a fascinating actor in the universe of Sonic!
To be honest, she could have stayed since eggman offered her a neutral job as a mechanic, but she left because she didn't like eggman and wanted to be on Sonic's side, and eggman was ok with that. Sage's case was different, but Sage stayed with eggman after meeting Sonic, unlike Belle, because Belle never got to really know eggman, and just like Sonic and his friends, they don't know of eggman's good side which eggman hides and barely shows at all
@@Darknight-nc4iu You can't ignore something that's not there in the first place. Thousands if not millions of people were killed and/or emotionally screwed because of him, and he regrets nothing. He's a anti-life monster!
@@prufan English version only; the original Japanese had him with a more neutral attitude toward Sage. Besides, Ian Flynn stated that his writing for the English version wasn't meant to redeem Eggman. Coming from him, it makes sense; he LOVES to write Eggman as a total monster. Also, the whole notion that IDW is set in the canon of the games is pretty sketchy. I usually roll with the word of the creators, but I have my limits. Between Eggman's vileness and the self-righteous stupidity Sonic showed for most of the comic so far, they both just seemed like radical departures from their game selves. I mean, Eggman straight up tried to render the world uninhabitable, TWICE! Meanwhile, from Issues 6-55; Sonic gave autonomy back to a soulless killing machine, gaslit his friends, ignored their legit concerns, let Eggman off the hook for the Metal Virus, Went hypocrite on his preached ideals TWICE, and practically admitted to treason against his entire planet! I'm glad that phase is over. Anyway, I personally don't think these comics being in the same linear continuity as the games gonna work in the end. Sega & Ian have had to pull back on a lot: two worlds, Mania being in an alternate past, what exactly caused Eggman's evil personality to resurface from Mr. Tinker, etc. In the end, it just feels like they're gonna have to pull back on the games and comics sharing a continuity as well.
I never liked pure evil Eggman because he's a confusion of evil and comedy which doesn't mash well. Sometimes he gets along with sonic and friends completely ignoring all the horrible things he has done. If Eggman is a monster then he and Sonic's friends should not get along, it's like making Albert Wesker get along with Chris Redfield.
Wow… that was just… Beautifull. I mean the character story. Is very touching and moving. And inspiring. I really miss her character wasn't used in any Sonic animated series. I really love characters like her. Well seem I will probably just have to return to the comics. but gosh it seems so worth it... And I just knew my boy Tails would be the first to befriend her ^^ Also I liked to say I would mostly like video on Silver and Blaze... but I see You already do Silver.
The Mr. Tinker ark certainly showed that Dr. Robotnik/Eggman can be a good person, if he truly puts his mind to it. But he clearly enjoys being antagonistic to a degree... but according to the past, a good chunk of Dr. Eggman's hate for others, stemmed from how he was humiliated and ridiculed in the past. While the story has changed from generation to generation; Eggman's seems to be consistent, that he was a scientific genius with a massive IQ, but rather then garnering respect from his peers; he was instead met with ridicule, mockery, and humiliation... which led to his wrath and anger, lashing out at everyone around him, in an effort to be validated for his genius. This would lead to others who simply want the fighting to end, like Sonic and Tails; to stand up against him... and highlights a major difference in how they choose to reflect and adapt to this. Because, in a mirrored reflection; Tails was also bullied by his peers, and made fun of for having two tails and always tinkering with inventions. But, unlike Dr. Eggman, Tails didn't become consumed with bitterness and anger; more he just felt rejected and was afraid to open up, but that changed when he met Sonic; who's actions triggered a desire to grow and prove he's more then just a nerd who can be pushed around. Unlike Dr. Eggman, Tails always wanted to use his inventions for the good of the world. And Sonic's help throughout his journey only strengthened that wish. Mr. Tinker more or less, feels like what Eggman would've been, if he had gotten to meet someone like Sonic, and let his anger go, instead of being consumed by it... and it feels like the creation of Belle, was his attempt to capture something he could be proud of and pleased to call his own... that joy and happiness he knows deep down he'll never have, due to the decisions and people he's wronged and conflicts he's pushed... She like Tails and Eggman, endured pain, neglect, and bullying of others... but unlike Eggman and Tails; who were ridiculed for their quirks and actions; Belle was ridiculed for something she had no control over; the fact that she was built by someone that others fear and dislike, even if he was a good person at the time... I think, with this knowledge known, the reason Eggman didn't lash out, or attack Belle; was because he was proud of her, and how far she was willing to push herself, to finally stand on her own before him. Even though she chooses to side with Sonic and Tails; she still is his creation... but only time will tell.
I think that making so many original characters is a strategy to being able to portray all the emotional moments and situations that the og sonic characters cannot (THANKS, PENDERS), and they are really making a good job on giving mental breakdowns to Belle and Whisper. Edit: Oh, and Kitsunami. I always forget about Kitsunami.
I think an interaction between her and shadow would be cool as they're both related to the Robotnik family. they both experienced great losses and are trying to move on opting to do things that the important people to them would have wanted (Maria for shadow and Tinker for Belle) Heck,i think belle and shadow could have the same relationship as him and cream. Would be cool (again).
It'll be interesting if/whenever Sage and/or Nicole get added to the IDW universe. Sage so that we can see what Belle thinks of her like assuming Robotnik made her to replace Belle, not knowing the events of Frontiers. Nicole since she too is an A.I. like Sage and would be fun if they were Pen Pals before realizing which groups they are apart of.
Would definitely be interesting. Unfortunately, we're probably never going to see Nicole or anyone else from SatAM/Archie again, after the total legal quagmire between Archie, Penders, Bioware, Sega, etc. of the early 2010s.
Gee..... If the IDW comics & the Games are indeed one cannon. & if the TWO endings to Sonic Fronters is anything to go by....... I feel Belle meeting Sage is going to be a Very huge blow. .....& considering that despite one of the purposes & Designs of ALL Eggman Creations to oppose Sonic & His Friends. The Fact that the whole Starfall Islands Experience where Sage first encountered the Core 4 (*Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy*) Has left both Herself & Sonic on good terms..... & I have a feeling that down deep, in spite of what Eggman wants them to be, both Sage & Sonic KNOW that they are NOT Enemies..... & if Belle were to find out about the whole thing it would break Her. ....Oh, Ian Flynn..... I Hope You know what You are doing when it comes to the direction You are taking when Writing Your Sonic Stories for both Sega & IDW........ O_o
@@prufan Sage is a prierly a logical being when she sees that working with Sonic increases the chances of success to her objectives she will work with him however she is ultimatly loyal to Eggman and does not work with Sonic until given permision. So while they may respect each other Sonic and Sage are still enemies. Remeber in Frontiers even Eggmen admits to Sage that while he might Hate Sonic he also respects him as an adversery.
Right now, I only wonder what would happen if Belle met Sage. She is the AI daughter of EGGMAN (since Sonic Frontiers) and the same game has canonically said that Sticks exists in the game reality during the credits. They only exist in Sonic mobile apps, but I’d like to see the comic characters become game canon. The comics have proved they follow Forces’ plot.
I had no idea she was a robot. Her nose made me think she was some clown furry. Good story. Wish I read all the IDW comics. I've dabbled but never knew her.
Its sad to see the differenced between eggmans treatment to belle and sage. Tho imo, i feel as if most of the og comic characters are starting to become stale now that their arcs ended. Whisper and tangle had their arc, to the point where whisper forgot her whole char development only to repeat the same mistake (pushed her friends aside to protect them, but then realize that its better to be helped by them than to protect them by pushing them away). And tho i like tangles character, being the energetic happy go luck one, i feel as if they "dropped" their characters and made them into a cry baby that needs confort every time someone says "diamond cutters" or "mimic", and the other is there just to confort her. Lanolin is ok, we havent seen much of her now that she got out of the background, but the little we saw already made people hate her, imo, i feel as if she should have stayed as a background character. And belle feels as if she had soooo much potential, both as a friend, a potential villain or a 3rd party that isnt protag or antag to the heroes. Im waiting to see what they will do with surge and kit, really hoping they dont drop the ball. I feel as if im forgetting a bad duo, oh well, if i forgot it probably means they werent important.
I reallly like Belle. Ive beeen reading comics of sonic since i was 8 or so. Im almost 30 now. I cant find them where i live but i still have my childhood ones and i try to read them on free sights before they are taken down
My favorite characters in the comics (besides the ones that are in almost every sonic video game) are: Bark the Polar Bear Mammoth Mogul Mighty the Armadillo Spike the Porcupine Trevor Burrow the Mole ....I've got an encyclopedia of sonic characters back when archie was making the comics I'd have to go look.
Thanks Sonic Theory for this video. Besides say Whisper, I feel Belle the Botnik is the most tragic character second to the Imposter Duo Surge and Kit. Because goodness gracious were Surge and Kit's stories so sad. Belle was made by a loving father who turned out to be nothing more than an amnesiac Eggman. But even Tinkerer felt human, and its sad that while I love Eggma Tinkerer felt like a separate person and more good than Eggman. But when Eggman returns, the poor robot lost her Gepetto. A Pinnochio who lost not only an inventor but dad. Another thing is that I feel bad that while she managed to move on, it's like she was forced to do so. All thanks to petty Starline who was a crazy Eggman fanboy. It gets even worse because Eggman might try and find a way to program Belle and she might be used in the future. And to top it all off, Eggman got a new daughter in the form of Sage who appeared in Frontiers. Oh boy poor Belle not only does her former dad have a daughter, he treats her with kindness and respect. I imagine if Sage appears I hope those two would interact in IDW because it would complete her story arc full circle. Overall, I do enjoy Belle but after IDW 50 she's now just there in the main cast. Belle is kind of forgotten a bit and it's frustrating she is not given more development. I wished she is given more time to shine because shex kind of becoming forgotten.

since the IDW comics are canon, and frontiers mentions IDW characters like tangle, I like to think that eggman acted upon his innate desire of having a "happier life" like when he had belle so he made sage to fill that gap
Another reason that Starline deserved to be bodied by Eggman before he died. I just feel so bad for her, in a similar vain to Surge and Kit. We need more of her, that’s why I hope IDW characters will appear in future mainline games, not just mentions.
It is said that the cheering someone else up is the best way to do so to yourself. Belle's story is one of the most fascinating and powerful next to X-9 from Samurai Jack. I was not sure what creature Belle was supposed to be based on, she looks human but her build reminds me of Sticks, so I imagine she was some red-haired badger. Her attire kind of reminds me of Lil and Phil from Rugrats (minus the diaper). In future Belle will probably have to deal with the issue of outliving her friends due to being robot.
Belle is like a D&D NPC who was supposed to only be around for a one-off quest, only to stick around in the campaign longer than anyone planned, even the DM, and the DM isn't sure what to do with her but is doing their best to tell her story in the middle of the greater story.
Honestly, Belle's story and character progression aren't so bad when they're told in one sitting instead of stretched out over several issues.
just have her go to scrapnik island and help mecha sonic rebuild the eggcarrier

I hope Sage makes an appearance in IDW since it would be really interesting to see her and Belle's reactions & interactions with each other since they both represent different versions of Eggman's psyche
I hope to see that as well!
I can totally imagine Sage trying to pull a “join the dark side Big sis” without understanding the disparity between eggman and Mr. Tinker
As I can see Sage pulling "So, father... why am I just now finding out I have an older sister?"
Belle already has Metal Sonic for that. They are antitheses and represent their creators well. Belle repairs; Metal destroys. Belle is meek; Metal is bold. Belle is... *sigh* good; Metal is evil.
Belle represents more than just that.
Belle deserves better than egg man honestly how she helps others is great
I love that despite what life has thrown her way she is always willing to help others
Well, she could still stand to NOT repair robots who want nothing more than to kill her friends.
She's got a lot of friends and support. She's fine
Maybe tails will LEAGLY adopt him and gain half custody of kit with the other being under surge.
"The IDW Sonic comics have done a great job portraying the struggles of humanity and incorporating them into their stories."
That hits hard. We need more of this.
Except Shadow.
@@valentinkambushev4968yeah….they stereotyped shadow like a lot of sonic media today but that’s due to sega’s new mandates (i’m pretty sure)
Pretty stupid hindsight)
And honestly, I thought how they wrote him was pretty on key. The dude’s suffered a ton. It makes sense he was willing to be ‘the person’ who killed Eggman if the others couldn’t, because he doesn’t want them to suffer the same fate he did (as he spared the humans who attacked Space Colony Ark, choosing instead to run away with Maria as scared children)
Then in the Metal Virus arc, he was suffering from massive guilt of not ignoring the others and just killing Eggman (when really, he should have felt guilty that he just walked off and didn’t stick around to guard ‘Mr.Tinker’ while there was an impersonator around.) and kept going non-stop with no sleep. That’s why he was so ‘edgy’ there.
Top that, when Rouge yelled ‘Run’, he had a PTSD episode, remember how he ran with Maria but it got her killed. That’s why he tripled down instead of running off the virus.
Beyond that, when I last saw him in IDW (during that ski resort arc) it seemed more like he just didn’t know how to interact with everyone, which makes sense since he grew up in an isolated space station, and everyone gets pretty snarky with him (they’re just trying to joke around, but makes sense how that’s off putting to someone who never experienced that before)
Come ‘The Murder of Sonic The Hedgehog’, it seems like he’s starting to take steps to reach out and make connections, given he actually went to Amy’s birthday to participate in the game, and he took drastic steps to get her a gift she’d like (when he realized everyone else got her something) because it mattered to him to make her happy.
@@Norinia Yeah; meanwhile Sonic kept selfishly endangering innocent lives for the sake of giving freedom to the biggest evil **stards on the planet!
Eggman explains already why he terorrizes and does what he does in the comics 😅
I haven't read the comics. What is his reason?
Is it just world domination or something?
@JokukranTheileochy Eggman is self-absorbed and thinks he's doing good.

That just makes things more sad.

Eggman: A remnant of... other times. Times from before I rebuilt the Empire.
Sage: Is she my sister?
Eggman: Think of her as more of a morally opposed cousin that happened to be built by my dead amnesia identity.
Sage: Starline?
Eggman: Starline.
(Later...)
Belle: Who are you?
Sage: I was told to think of you as a morally-estranged cousin. I cannot deny that appellation, given what I have learned of you.
Belle: ...I wish we could both have our dads in that man.
Sage: Agreed. I would very much have liked a sister. However...
Belle: Starline killing my dad?
Sage: Indeed.
I don't think Sage is in the cards. The current canon of Frontiers is that it takes place "five years after IDW." Unless that changes, I doubt sage will be shown in the comics and even if she is it would not be any version of her we see in Frontiers.
@@OtioseFanatic ...Darn.
@@OtioseFanaticwait where was it confirmed that frontiers takes place 5 years later?
@@lpsamyrose one of Ian Flynn's write-ups about the game years ago when people IMMEDIATELY asked for Sage to be put into the comic. Apparently Frontiers is meant to be like, the last game in the timeline period with the plot exploring the idea of the characters getting older and even growing apart and having their own adventures like how Amy basically says that after the game is over and they get back she's leaving to go find herself. They even have sonic finally admit his feelings for her to himself but point out that it's "too late now" like it's a forgone conclusion that they probably won't see each other again.
I like how that in the IDW comics, Belle is his daughter, but in the games,
Sage is his daughter.
Belle is the daughter of Mr Tinker, Sage is the daughter of Dr. Eggman.
But the comics are considered canon so the games are in the future while the comics are before Frontiers.
And then the fandom has omelette.
I like to picture them as three sisters that are back at home when eggman is doing his shenanigans. Maybe that's just the Powerpuff girl fan in me
@lazlow8788
I still don't know where that proof is.
I read that the video games may take "elements" from the comics, such as Tangle, but that's it.
I immediately recognised that Lies of P song. That is so many layers of clever, good job.
Man, poor Belle.
Also RIP Mr. Tinker
Dude, it's going to be VERY depressing to think about Belle when Sage appears in the comics
Why's that?
Belle is happy now! She outgrew Eggman and became her own amazing self 😁
Because the evil side of her own father replaced her with an exact opposite to her
wow. as a victim of mental abuse from my father, this was incredibly eye-opening for me. I never thought I'd relate to the struggles of a Sonic character of all things. thank you for making this video
Sorry to hear you went through something so terrible. I hope you find peace and comfort 🥺
@@andrewowens4421 yeah which is why I say twisted. It’s what belle and Mr. Tinker had but eggman is explicitly still evil.
@ Well yeah I definitely want to see it. It’s just going to be a very complicated first meeting.
I super hope she goes to scrapnik island, the story praticly wrights itself.
Yeah, let her have a humongous family who hopefully will never ever EVER try to welcome Metal Soulless in!

@@456tyso Oh no? What if he does, and that's where Eggman has to retrieve him from? What if the Scrapniks finally get off the island BEFORE they come across Metal's battered body? Belle’s mission to reform her “brothers and sisters” sounds like what Lilo did for Stitch’s cousins in “Lilo and Stitch: The Series.”
Jesus, I didn't expect a sonic comic to be so in depth, that was great!
except she did fix herself. She accepted the fact the Tinker is never coming back and made peace with it.
Now if only she'd accept that her older evil half-brother is her antithesis and beyond a lost cause.
And then there's Sage. A truly inquisitive sister who wants to know, given the view point towards Sonic defying seemingly impossible odds.

that grin he makes
makes me believe that he has plans for her, evil plans
turning her from a Tinker into a Robotnik one day, by force
It WAS just plain idiotic of her to outright tell him that she interfaced with Metal directly.
Remember during the camping trip when Amy used her cards to predict Belle’s future and looked freaked out at the card she had? That’s 100% going to be called back down the line.
Yeah he started to sing a different tune once she revealed how she fixed Metal. Before that he was threatening to have Metal attack her.

Sage's case was different, but Sage stayed with eggman after meeting Sonic, unlike Belle, because Belle never got to really know eggman, and just like Sonic and his friends, they don't know of eggman's good side which eggman hides and barely shows at all
I mostly put this here because i feel people might ignore eggman's good side.

I love how you used the songs from Lies Of P which were masterpieces to listen to

Beautifull. I mean the character story. Is very touching and moving. And inspiring. I really miss her character wasn't used in any Sonic animated series. I really love characters like her.
Well seem I will probably just have to return to the comics. but gosh it seems so worth it...
And I just knew my boy Tails would be the first to befriend her ^^
Also I liked to say I would mostly like video on Silver and Blaze... but I see You already do Silver.
I think that making so many original characters is a strategy to being able to portray all the emotional moments and situations that the og sonic characters cannot (THANKS,
PENDERS), and they are really making a good job on giving mental breakdowns to Belle and Whisper.
Edit: Oh, and Kitsunami. I always forget about Kitsunami.

Thing is the IDW comics are ment to be in the games universe.
Nicole is not canon
Would definitely be interesting. Unfortunately, we're probably never going to see Nicole or anyone else from SatAM/Archie again, after the total legal quagmire between Archie, Penders, Bioware, Sega, etc. of the early 2010s.
😢😢 I'M CRY TOO MUCH
🥺💙
Was not ready for u to mention Ellen Ripley
Imagine what might happen when she meets Sage...
That would be a very interesting meeting
she's so underrated just like other characters in the franchise. it's just sad that they have no time whatsoever to give them a chance to shine.
"both Sage & Sonic KNOW that they are NOT Enemies..... " They absolutely are still enemies. They just team up when absolutely necessary.
@@prufan Sage is a prierly a logical being when she sees that working with Sonic increases the chances of success to her objectives she will work with him however she is ultimatly loyal to Eggman and does not work with Sonic until given permision. So while they may respect each other Sonic and Sage are still enemies. Remeber in Frontiers even Eggmen admits to Sage that while he might Hate Sonic he also respects him as an adversery.
omg she's so cute. i haven't kept up with sonic things in a few years, maybe it's time lol
This was sad because it pointing out to people parents who couldn’t take care of there kids😢
Bell’s robot sanctuary seems nice.
Belle isn’t Eggman’s daughter. She is the daughter of Mr Tinker. Starline killed him. Remember that.
Belle my favorite IDW character ❤
Right now, I only wonder what would happen if Belle met Sage. She is the AI daughter of EGGMAN (since Sonic Frontiers) and the same game has canonically said that Sticks exists in the game reality during the credits.
They only exist in Sonic mobile apps, but I’d like to see the comic characters become game canon. The comics have proved they follow Forces’ plot.
I had no idea she was a robot. Her nose made me think she was some clown furry. Good story. Wish I read all the IDW comics. I've dabbled but never knew her.
MAN i wish i had the chance to read these comics. they seem so cool
I like how she has a jaw like a puppet
Until now, I didn’t know Dr. Eggman had any children.
I cant find them where i live but i still have my childhood ones and i try to read them on free sights before they are taken down
My favorite characters in the comics (besides the ones that are in almost every sonic video game) are:
Bark the Polar Bear
Mammoth Mogul
Mighty the Armadillo
Spike the Porcupine
Trevor Burrow the Mole
....I've got an encyclopedia of sonic characters back when archie was making the comics I'd have to go look.
i love her story its super interesting but also sad.
Love your videos.👍
Thank you 😊
Can't watch cause spoilers lol but it is mean this is the first video of yours in a while I got a notification for even tho I have it set up to notify me every time you upload 😭😭😭😭 anyway dude how are you
Doing well! Good to hear from you again. How've you been? You should check out some of my more recent content if you get the chance 😊
@SonicTheory96 Yeah I definitely will I'm doing good just a bit tired but like I got the surgery and I am on new meds now and I'm doing a lot better also got reintouch with a old friend Also news on the murder of Sonic video the file got corrupted again so we are going to have to redo it again but we don't have a lot of time right now to do it since Robat has a lot of school stuff right now and I've been trying to set up my new phone and laptop while also doing mod work and hanging out with friends while also dealing with family stuff lol so we are a bit busy
@@ArtyAxolotl I hope your recovery from your surgery goes well, I'll be praying for you! Oh no! We'll let me know as soon as you guys ever get that second part going! But yeah life can get busy fast, its honestly good to hear from you again ☺
@@SonicTheory96 oh I'm fully recovered that was a little while ago but we haven't talked in a while so I was just updating since I had mentioned that it kept being delayed and that was causing filming the next video to be delayed a lot lol
since the IDW comics are canon, and frontiers mentions IDW characters like tangle, I like to think that eggman acted upon his innate desire of having a "happier life" like when he had belle so he made sage to fill that gap
Imma steal belles story for dnd character lol
This character has an amazing up and down, then back up story! Also have an amazing day everybody!
She's a cinnamon roll. Don't feel bad for Starline though but sure whatever you come up with will always be great.
Damn.... ANYWAYS THATS MY GOAT METAL SONIC IN THERE. HE THE GOAT 🔥🔥🔥🔥
I would like to see an adaptation of Sonic Frontiers, and Belle and Sage face each other.
