- Dr. Pagnani of Rittenhouse Psychiatric Associates discusses Buspar or buspirone, which is a medication that is used to treat anxiety disorders. This medication does not have the abuse and dependency risk that many anxiolytics (like benzodiazepines have) and generally causes less risk of sexual dysfunction as your SSRIs and SNRIs. But with that said, it requires 2 - 3 time dosing throughout the day, isn't always tolerated, and may not be as effective as your SSRIs or SNRIs for some patients.
Dr. Pagnani is the founder and medical director of Rittenhouse Psychiatric Associates, an Instructor at The Johns Hopkins Hospital for the Department of Psychiatry, he supervises psychiatric residents at Jefferson Hospital, he serves on the Young Professional Board of Uplift, the Center for Grieving Children and he maintains a private practice of Psychiatry in Philadelphia where he sees patients for one-time psychiatric evaluations and second opinions. He is a licensed physician and surgeon in NJ, PA, NY, MD, DE, FL and CA and can provide consultations to individuals via HIPAA compliant Telehealth visits living in these locations.
Rittenhouse Psychiatric Associates is a private practice of psychiatry consisting of about 25 psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners and psychotherapists with physical locations in Philadelphia and Paoli, PA and serving all of PA, NJ, NY and FL virtually via HIPAA compliant tele-psychiatry. Individuals seeking not only evaluations but long-term psychiatric care, can contact Rittenhouse Psychiatric Associates directly.
These videos aim to increase awareness and discussion of mental health topics and to encourage struggling individuals to schedule an appointment directly with a mental health provider. Mental health needs to be normalized, and simply speaking about mental health topics openly, is an important first step.
Dr. Pagnani and Rittenhouse Psychiatric Associates are NOT advocating for or against the use of any mentioned psychiatric medications for any specific individual. Additionally, any side effects mentioned are not a complete list of potential side effects or contraindications to taking any mentioned medications, and all risks and benefits of a medication should be discussed with an individual’s provider at an appointment, before starting, stopping or making changes to a medication regimen.

@@andreahernsaze4144 How did it go?
Buspar has changed my life. If I could go back in time and start it when I was much younger, I would not hesitate.
So glad its working for you. Any insomnia from it? Getting ready to start it
Thank you
@@michaelthau1007insomnia real bad and other physical symptoms forced me to quit this drug.
Thank you
Thank you for the information, I am starting this medication I hope that it works for me.
I appreciate that, I hope that it does as well, - Dr. Pagnani
What would be the interaction of this if taken along with 5-HTP?
Can this help with benzowithdraws from taking benzo?
I've been on escitalopran for quite some time to treat panic attacks but as a side effect developed ED problems. I wonder if Buspar treats panic attacks disorder as well.
Buspar is better for me then SSRI similar effect less side effects sexually
My doctor took me off ativan and I've been looking for a replacement. He tried replacing it with hydroxyzine but that makes me too drowsy. A psychiatrists recommended I try buspar as I said I did not like the negative side effects of ssri's. I'm still hesitant though because these medications scare me but was told buspar has way less side effects.
Buspar is the only medication I've ever taken that worked, and didn't give me horrible side effects. I journaled my experience and the only thing was weight gain which was good for me because stress makes me lose weight.
I just got put on this to soon to tell I just hope that the Dr made a great choice😮
If it only has a half life of 2 or 3 hours, then how does it build up in you system?
That is why it will take a few weeks to feel the full effects of the drug.
Just started this i want to be normal
Thank you for sharing, and I hope that you receive the care that you need. Sincerely, - Dr. Pagnani

Baby's first medication
How long do you have to take it before it starts working
I took it for 3-4 days and I already started to feel relief. This med literally has saved my life
@@dayanararivera9531Any side effects?
I am glad it worked for you but it didn’t work for me since I have a lot of side effects.
Made me super irritable.
It fucking does nothing but makes you want to die when you try to get off of it
Benzodiazepines is the worst! Don’t even think about it! You will regret when you want to stop! I stopped this Buspiron after one month because of side effects. Everyone is different
I got of this drug because insomnia and many side effects
Is it s narcotic will it show up in urine?
Nope
I was on it 3x daily after my overdose was taken of it in hospital❤
Thank you for sharing such personal information. I hope that you are doing well, - Dr. Pagnani
I’ll just keep my Xanax
It won't be long before your Dr stops giving it to you. They are clamping down on opiods and benzos at the moment, I understand it is not a great thing to be on them long term but it's horrible coming off them! My Dr is weaning me off clonazapam, even though I'm on it for muscle spasms after a spinal injury. Good luck :)
Lol
Took Xanax and loved it too much… bc it fixed everything for me then they take it away and replace with Buspar.
I stayed away from Benzodiazepines especially the withdrawal.
Xanax gave my friends mom alzheimers at 60
Like taking a baby aspirin
Needs to go off the market
