As a restaurant owner, this hit! He dropped a lot of gems, especially with pricing for future, company culture, marketing and having a vision.
We about it make a year in our storefront and it’s a literal grind everyday. Thank you Marcus for your insight.

I love in Houston, and have been to Breakfast Klub a few times. They have great service and food. Even though there is a line, the stsff comes out and check on you. Pass out water in the summer, some snacks to promote other products, etc. The coffee is great too!

Great info! I’m in the food delivery industry, and, when I tell you we see restaurants come and go all of the time. It boils down to a few things: branding, marketing, operations, documentation of processes and hiring the right ppl!!!!

Yes! The talent on your team definitely makes a difference. Most restaurant owners also neglect to properly invest in marketing as well. Most major corps invest a dollar for every dollar earned on marketing/ branding. It's how the longevity is achieved. Remaining memorable a key component. I definitely need to watch more stuff like this. My creative juices are flowing on the business side rn

RASHAD! Do not mistake those positions in a restaurant or any businesses as jobs that don’t require (to quote you) “a-lot of skill set” . You have to have a firm grasp of a this understanding especially as a business man. Those positions require ALOT of skill sets, but very specific ones. It’s the same as someone who works on a shrimp boat.. that job requires a lot of skill sets but very imperative ones in order to Actually maintain a ANY successful business. The people in the restaurant industry are actually starting to understand there own individual value in that establishment much more ,which is why they don’t want to work for these business even if you find a good employee.
GREAT VIDEO, I see the vision for myself as well . I want to run a successful restaurant so bad. I have been in this business for years, and had so many experiences that I retained lessons from differently than most of my coworkers. but I have habits that are my own adversaries.

Yes, agreed!!! Soft Skills are needed: great communication, patience, understanding people, etc. These all add up to great customer service!!! 😀🤔

Great interview. I'm in DC thinking about taking a trip down to Houston to visit. This restaurant is definitely on my list to visit. Love how Mr. Davis emphasized quality and consistency. SOP's or Standard Operating Procedures are essential to any business.....Mr. Davis sounds like he took a course in Lean and Six Sigma...Systems and Quality....

Marcus said we are supposed to use integration as leverage NOT stop supporting black businesses altogether. Yaaaaaasss!!! I've been said this! So yeah I also don't agree that we should have stayed segregated. I feel that we should have been smart enough to continue to support our black businesses but also use information from other non-black businesses to learn what they do and use it to our advantage as well.

    I thoroughly enjoyed this episode.
When the conversation addressed our national restaurant presence I was hoping to hear someone mention "Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken."
Gus's has a presence in 34 locations in 14 states. That's a pretty good effort.
