  • We repair the very damaged and rotten frame truss with a new piece of wood, a few cuts and planing, then assembled with bolts… 👇
Back on this experience, some reflections on this project but also the many steps that required its implementation.

As always, we would like to remind that we are not professionals, and that experts or specialized companies whose job it is would do better and faster.
There are plenty of choices, we looked around the possibilities and implemented a solution that we felt we were implementing. So be tolerant, especially if you are a carpenter.
Warning: even if we always try to be as precise as possible, it is impossible in a few minutes of video to explain the many stages of reflection, calculation and handling, it would be interminable. We therefore skip over certain details of our analysis.
Also, we opted for this solution according to our situation and it might not be suitable for other configurations that are unknown to us. Don't improvise, we don't mess with security.
A few notes all the same:
No tenon, mortise or recess: the traction forces are entirely taken up by the threaded rods which connect the two.
This as we discovered on a farm further away, in good condition, which also has no cutouts, and a very low heel. The false-ties of the frame must already take up a good part of the spacing constraint.
All calculations of resistance and loads, rod spacing etc. are made to Eurocodes 3 and 5
The bolts have been sized to resist the traction according to the load of the entry, and in shear according to the force of separation of the frame, This is why they are smooth and threaded only on the end unlike the rods threaded connecting the crossbow, which are mainly requested in traction.
