I'm a father of two and don't have much time to game. I work 12 hour swing shifts including weekends and nights. On slower nights I can take this and play all night long. It's been a game changer for me on night shift. I used to just watch movies on my phone. Now I have that big screen for movies and games. It's great!

Despite the lack of updated drivers, I've always had a good experience with Lenovo support. Considering the recent expose by Gamers Nexus around ASUS' crazy customer service, I'd weigh that heavily comparing the ROG and Legion Go.

    • @moomah5929
      @moomah5929 24 วันที่ผ่านมา

@@marksapollo Not always. As an IT guy at an university where we use lots of Lenovo hardware and from personal use I can tell, Lenovo has it's own problems. Good luck getting you stuff replaced or repaired out of guarantee even though it seems to be faulty by design (lots of people with similar issues).
Lenovo devices look nice but have their out-of-box issues like the keys on my wife's Yoga 2-in-1 triggering the touch screen causing random mouse movements when used closed with a dock and external mouse. Also has some random and odd other issues. The Thinkpad X1 Carbon I got at work has battery issues, odd issues where it freezes randomly for a few seconds and the keyboard is also touching the screen, causing it to get dirty from natural skin oil and I have quite dry hands. Lenovo doesn't design such devices with a big enough gap between screen and keyboard.
At this point I would rather get the SD (if I wouldn't own one already) than the Legion Go, but I also don't have any experiences with Valves customer support.

The Legion Go really surprised me. I bought one on a whim, open box deal at BB. I fully intended on returning it, expecting to hate it. On paper, it looks bulky, uncomfortable, the controls seem weirdly designed, and windows on handhelds wasn't appealing to me. But somehow, it won me over and is my absolute FAVOURITE handheld out of any of the ones I have. Does it have issues? Yes, definitely. But the huge, vibrant screen, is so incredibly immersive, and the flexibility of being able to use it as a tablet, and have all the simplicity of being able to use windows actually is a huge difference to other handhelds out there.
Having windows on a 7inch screen really doesn't work because of readability for me, but the Legion Go, I don't feel like I'm making any compromises.
I don't recommend it at full price, but I do recommend people hunt for deals on this and try it out, it may surprise you.

Only thing I haven’t quite gotten figured out on it is emulation which is mostly due to lack of much trying. Overall super happy with my purchase.

Holy crap Russ.... You just fixed my Lenovo x12 laptop's speakers, and I have been trying for well over two years to fix them. They were so metallic and tinny that they would peak and crackle simply at the sound of plugging a device into them.
Turns out I didn't have EQ settings in realtek, but that took me down a rabbit hole I hadn't thought about, and turns out there was a dolby atmos console with some dynamic setting that was ja cking everything up. Turned it off... your voice stopped peaking the speakers. They still weren't tolerable, but no longer unusable.
So I added in FXsound and turned it to light processing and holy crap it sounds like a laptop. Not a great laptop, but I can actually use the speakers to listen to a lecture now.
Man lenovo can't do speakers for crap. Absolutely OUTSTANDING customer service though, I don't love my X12 as a device, but spending $250 for 5 years of next day on-site repair has paid for itself several times over, having a technician come to my house and fix the several hardware faults I've had (firmware update bricking my display driver, dropped it once and broke the magnesium chassis and one speaker)

I got my legion go around January, and i love it. I play it almost every day. I've purchased the same grips, and they make it way more comfortable, and as a plus it can still fit in the original case, though just barely, and I've also 3d printed the connector and the vertical screen connector for emulating DS/3DS. I'm finally getting to play sega saturn since none of my other devices emulate it acceptably to me (Retroid Pocket Flip, Samsung Galaxy S10+ with a Razer controller, modded Switch in Android dual boot, though i haven't tried the Switch Cotton rom injection. Only a few games i play require balance mode, where i get 2 hours of play time, most of my emulators and indy steam games run on power saver mode, where i get 3 - 4.5 hours of battery time. Just being able to play anything without having to set up a laptop has been a game changer, and has made it so much easier to just pick up a device when i have 5-10 minutes, or when i just want to play on the couch or in bed.
10/10 would recommend, and if you can get one open box you can get it cheaper than a steam deck OLED. Even so, with the ability to play game the deck can't, and play the games it can better, i think it's worth the extra dollars in my personal opinion.

(SD OLED and LLGo), I have to say that on my recent trips I have been choosing the LLGo over the SD OLED simply because I can play any game I want. Also, with controllers dettached it is very easy to travel with, its like travelling with a chunkier ipad mini, then you can throw the controllers wherever you want (these are light but very durable so I dont really care about those at all).
Also I have been using it just as a tablet to watch videos, read documents/epubs/browsing in portrait mode and it is a pleasure, I don't really feel the need of a personal laptop anymore.
The only thing I could say I'm really missing is a finger print scanner to unlock the thing, similar as the ally. Other than that if they release a refresh of this same product with a few more enhancements: better ergonomics, native landscape display, more refresh rate modes and not only 60-144, more software updates, maybe even an OLED screen, Lenovo will simply blast the handheld market, only with those updates I will be sold to upgrade and not even consider to get rid of my original V1, since I still think that is an amazing product with a ton of use cases other than gaming

thanks for the great overview! I agree with most of these things... and I can also happily say that I also have a great time with this device.
One question though: can you comment on how tools like lossless scaling behaves when you change your setup from handheld to docked? I have certain games that I only use docked and on my big screen - so my assumption is that it would not do anything if it is not specifically started up, right? (lossless scaling I mean)

I feel like it's important to mention button mapping has improved a lot. Not all of the extra buttons are comfortable to use, but the 3 in the back are pretty good and I've mapped them to stuff like alt-tab and esc with no issue. You also can change the button mapping profile very easily, so I have one for watching movies/videos/whatever. The screen is big enough that you basically get a mini TV in bed.
Oh, and don't sleep on that mousewheel and trackpad. They make Windows navigation so much better, and are pretty handy to organise big inventories in games too.

I love the Deck's ergonomics and control placement, but my eyes can't deal with 7" screens, so the Go's been awesome. The larger display and versatility coupled with all the community-driven customizations really cement the Go as a dark horse in the handheld race.
Great video filled with helpful tips. Definitely going to be picking up those grips to try.
Edit: Sold out. Bummer, hope they print some more soon.

I actually use my XReal 2 Pro glasses with it as well and a small pockect size foldable keyboard, and i am set. I also have an Anker portable charger (basically a portable power station) that i leave in my car and because the Legion go had the firmware update where the battery charges fast while playing and im getting around 6 hours of play with my hook up, its just no comparison. Ive also since, gotten rid of steam deck, asus ally AND my ps5, there is no need for them anymore after the legion go.

As someone who's done a full cycle of trying out handhelds, I liked the legion go a lot but disliked how slow they are with updates and etc.. so i went ahead and returned it and bought the deck oled instead.
I've always wanted to go back to the legion go, but I feel like perhaps at this point maybe i should wait for a "refreshed" version?
What are your thoughts and what would be your recommendation? Deck Oled -> Legion Go or just stick to the deck oled for now? (Just an fyi - i have no issues navigating around windows and stuff. Yes, i do love the decks "console" like feeling, but I know there's like bazzite on the legion go to make it also feel that way).

In addition to the “power savin g” there’s also “Quite Mode” in the bios menu. Spelling isnt a dealbreaker but does show lack of attention to detail in one area that could mean issues in another.
I will say the LeGo is the best all around device. Need a tablet? Joy cons? Giant kickstand? Built in track pad and optical mouse? Portrait play? All there. Not as comfortable as Steam Deck or Ally, not as polished, but I bought the thing for emulating EVERYTHING (DS and WiiU included) and that it does very well.

However, It's kind of a process getting it out to play, putting it in desktop mode, connecting power, doing all the things I need to do to counteract the weight, that I rarely do. The extreme lengths you have to go to have interger scaling and/or FSR or stuff like that just makes me appreciate my SteamOS Steam Deck even more. All these things are a single click away and already included. The equalizer to boost the speakers is also native (and you can also use EasyEffects) and everything is 100% free and extremely easy to use. I still don't understand why people complain that Linux is hard to use when Windows requires so much confusing steps, updating drivers, etc.

    • @usafballer79
      @usafballer79 22 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

but you are not scaling up to anything significant? In fact your going even lower res - on this device we are talking 800P to 1600P - it should be built in to the LEGO for sure, but let's not oversell what the Steam Deck is doing. It's 800P and maybe can squeeze a few lighter games higher on an external display

Thank you so much for this follow up video on the Legion Go!
I picked up a 1TB Legion Go from BB in 'Fair' condition back in Dec for just over $610 after tax. I was worried that it would be scratched and damaged but it was actually in perfect condition. The BB employee I talked to told me they just marked it as 'Fair' to get it sold and I was happy to keep it at that price. I've been enjoying using it overall but I am excited to try out the recommendations you have mentioned! I also plan to grab the comfort grips and then go from there for some of the other accessories.
I'd say that my biggest frustration with it is that sometimes I’ll find that it’s turned on while in it’s case so it’s hot and has wasted battery. I’m sure that’s user error but I would like it if it were easier for me to hit the power button and store it without having to worry if something is going to randomly wake it up in there.
Thanks again and keep up the great work!

From what I heard looking at many reviews of these devices, that's a windows 11 issue. It was even doing that when I tried using win11 on the steam deck. From what I read online, putting it in hibernate instead of sleep works better. Supposedly that stops it from turning back on, but the downside is it takes slightly longer to resume.
