“I wanted to invest in happiness....” and so she did, and she lived happily ever after. A powerful statement. Thanks for sharing.
I'm sorry for your lost. Love how you are doing things to help brighten your family. I have a 4 year-old grand and try to live life and be happy. Just to let her know regardless of race we are human and deserve to enjoy our lives . Blessings to you and yours

It’s wonderful to find people not afraid to the change.
@Nature Lover some people are like trees, they don't want to move. Or maybe he is afraid of change?
@Nature Lover wow!. ..iam in the same situation..trying to convince my other half is really difficult.
Foziah Ramli me too. I said do you want to be in this place, forever? Looking at this wall in this bedroom when you take your last breath. Never seeing what life can be, maybe in clean fresh air. Before we are too frail to do it? He says he’s fine in our condo just watching tv and having a boarding life. 😔
But - There are som GOOD to The " moving away " ! Look at America & Canada - but Sweden aswell... Everybody knows ZLATAN & Cornelis Vreeswijk - that has names from somewhere - that would be more " local " & known that in Sweden ! You NEVER KNOW Who Youll Meet on The Way !
I can't imagine losing a grandchild. Good on you for living your dream. Most don't have the courage.
Thanks David!
Many condolences of the loss of your granddaughter. You are blessed to have bought this cottage & Sweden looks like a beautiful country to live.
Thankyou ❤️ for your wise words . I will listen to this video over and over . Lost my Husband of 40+ years ( True love of my life) to cancer . I'm a care giver to my 93 yr old mom ,2 oldest children and grands all living very long distance . 3 yrs ago Out of a need to put Mom and I in safe affordable housing I bought my first home . Tough learning at 61 how to go it alone but with limited freedom . Last year the last child moved to California to join his brother . I'm so happy to see him flying and happy but felt unreasonable abandoned. Then Covid hit . Seemed to be the last straw after 5 + years of stress . Last month has been extra hard after not seeing kids for over a year so far and no end in site . Your story has given me new hope, reason and purpose
Thank you ❤️
Sorry to hear of the challenges you’ve faced Mary Lou. These last few months have been tough for many, but especially caregivers like yourself who need & deserve all the support they can get.
Mary Lou. Just wanted to say how your words resonated with me. I too have had those caregiving challenges but not with quite as much loss as you’ve had. My sincere condolences. Can’t imagine how you’re coping in these unprecedented times , especially now being alone after having a loving partner most of your Life. Courage, surely you have no lack of! Just like this woman in this video whose words have also touched me deeply. Hang in there one day at a time is all I can say. That’s how I do it Fortune favors the Bold. Want to wish u the very Best! 👍👏🏻😁🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Mary Lou, Thank you for your loyalty to your husband & now to your Mother. Maybe when this Covid is over 2021 you could plan a trip to the USA???
Better yet maybe the 2 kids could come home for a vacation.
Why don't you ask the kids about making a trip home, just maybe they may be a little homesick, I know my nephew finally say so but didn't want to admit it.
Stay strong-Stay safe-Wear a mask.
NEVER EVER stopping dreaming. You are now in my prayers
And God bless you on your journey and may you find your peace and happiness and what you looking for God bless
@@chris3m98 that would be perfect but with the pandemic travel by plane here from one coast to the other in the US when dealing with one so old and frail as mom is not medically advised . I truly look forward to it though ❤️

As a new gran I cannot imagine that loss, and I am so sorry, and I am so impressed with your buoyant spirit and the beauty that you have surrounded yourself with and have provided as a retreat for your family. Many blessings to you, and hopes for a long, peaceful life in beautiful Sverige.
Thankyou Cheryl, enjoy your new role as a gran!
That’s a brilliant way to look at life. From such tragic events you’ve managed to find your way through to a truly life affirming experience. I wish you and your family peace and can’t wait to see what happens next.🌸

Twenty grand?? My goodness, I need to leave America and get my butt over there. Yes get some chickens, a rescue cat and dog, till a garden and enjoy your life in that adorable cottahe
Well the winters can be formidable....
Welcome to sweden
I am fairly sure that was in British Pounds, but even at the current $1.35 dollars to a pound, still a nice price on a cottage from a USA perspective (just Sweden is a lot further away for the USA grandkids)
In the North of Sweden you can find cottages for 5000$ a 3 bedroom one with big garden. The only thing is that the bathroom is outside and shower also. But you have great nature, lots of fresh air .
I just fell upon your video and it's the strangest thing because I have always wanted to live on an island and I keep thinking about it, but I'm a senior and alone and so I tell myself I'm just dreaming. I admire you for having the courage to take the plunge and do what you really wanted to do. Congrats and thanks for the inspiration at a very depressing time in the US. 🌼🌸🌺

I really needed to hear this encouragement right now. I bought a house near my family in France, due to sign the final papers and pay for it in March. And along comes Covid19. I go from anger to depression while continually checking the status of Americans traveling to France.
I am fortunate to have several people in my life that fully support my decision.
Thank you!

Thank you so much Jennifer. Your home and property are lovely and your decision to change is so brave. You have inspired me so much with the five year challenge. I am turning 60 in a few months and I want to envision who I want to be in five years, living a healthy loving creative life. Looking forward to more posts from your journey.
I’m glad I stumbled onto your video today...5 years ago I lost my sister to cancer, I lost my job which I loved (but not my supervisor), I lost my 10 year relationship, and then 10 months later my mom passed suddenly. It was the hardest time in my life. I also just lost my dad 6 months ago but am handling it much better. My perspective on life has changed greatly. Thank you for this video and I’m so so sorry for the loss of your granddaughter and your other family members, I cannot even imagine how it must feel. I hope you create many happy memories! Sorry, I just needed to let you know how inspiring your video was.
Thanks Tammie - I’m so sorry to hear of your losses. I don’t think I mention it in the video, but six months before we lost my granddaughter, my father passed away, and we had been helping to care for him for a couple of years before that. Thinking of you as you try to move forward in your life

Sorry to hear of your loss Susan
You are a really strong, amazing person and are inspiring me too! In 2017 I was happily living in a rural farmland area with my husband of 30 years, who had retired recently. We had finally built our dream home, surrounded by nature on our large 35 acreage of woods. We were so happy! One morning, he got up early and went out to start his usual outdoors work. I was in our home doing morning chores. When he didnt come in after I texted him, I decided to go help him with whatever chores he was doing. I found him back in our woods, crushed beneath a massive tree that had fallen on him. In that instant ....my beloved husband was gone and my life changed forever. That first year is a blur. I recall having to wade thru the fog in my head each morning just to make myself dress and remember to eat. I had to sell our rural dream home and find a house in a town far away. It was like a nightmare that wouldnt end. I would hear a phone ring and my first thought was...oops, my hubby is calling from work to tell me he will be late for dinner...then I would have to feel that searing pain as I grieved his death. But I slowly made myself survive. I rented an apartment, then blindly bought a house in a town. Now in my 3rd year without him, I have decided city life is not for me. I am selling as soon as economy gets better. I have always yearned for warmer winters, so I am planning to check out areas around beaches. Several family members say if I move to warmer climates, they will too. So that is our new adventure! Life is too short not to work at making your dreams come true! So I cheer you on with your swedish home adventure!
I’m so sorry for your loss Mary, what a very challenging time you have been living through. I hope you’ll find the perfect place, warm and close to the beach, to make your home
Thanks for this. The huge financial industry retirement machine relies on and uses fear to motivate us to plan for our futures. So refreshing to see someone who plans using joy.

I agree my dear!!! ...I am now 43 almost 44, mother to two grown girls, and mom to one crazy 10 year old boy & 2 grandsons (3 mo. & 16 mo), finally healing from a lot of trauma in my life and reflecting on those I've lost, and the thing that keeps me "most grounded" is STAYING PRESENT, so I can keep my anxiety low, and knowing I have control over my future in the decisions I make. Although each day is a gift and I am not promised tomorrow... I am content knowing I can live each day "as true as possible"...doing what truly brings me PEACE & JOY!!!...You story and adventures will be an inspiration to the ones I wish to make soon in my healing journey. Thanks for sharing...I look forward to seeing you enjoy your new oasis...I'd love to live on a farm!!!
This is the the right way to considering life in this way..we should be hopeful for betterment... challenge is every where but we have to make ourselves ready to face them...I pray for your good & happy content life, stay blessed ❤️🌿

Hello Jennifer, I just wanted to say that the message in this video touched me deeply. I'm about to uproot my life to move to the UK, and as you know, it's scary to do such things. But I do think that 5 years from now, I will be happy with the decision as I also want to be investing in joy. So, thank you for your positive and encouraging message!
Hope it goes well for you Nicole!
Are you mad moving to the UK?
Be prepared to convert to the religion of, "peace." Watch/follow Katie Hopkins.
Not sure why anyone would want to move to the UK...a state rapidly moving to fascism. We've just quit the UK and NEVER want to go back.
I have to agree about the UK. Over here. If you do well. People want to pull you down. If I could I would have moved to Australia years ago. But I stay for my mum.
Sorry about your loss.

Good plan. I need to have a sit down with myself about where I want to be in 5 years...at age 62 now. My husband is 63 but he's never wanted to go and do things more than maybe 2 weeks. He's happy with the same spot...I'm not sure I am. Life is very short and our window of movement physical gets less as we age.

Sometimes we hear a message when we need it the most. Your video was that for me. Laura
But why on EARTH are people calling your lovely proper timber Swedish farm house a shack? 😄 They are lovely old family homes! Not shacks! Anyway, looks like you found a good one there! Views to die for! I've done the red Swedish House thing a few times. And now I've been planning to go the other way and get myself a narrowboat in the UK. God knows how possible that will be post Brextit.
A narrowboat sounds like a wonderful idea Caprifool. Hope you find a way to make it possible!
@@JenniferCarterWriter thank you. And if it takes to long, I can always find a tiiiny little Welsh miners cottage or something. Or do the swedish cottage thing again. Apartments just don't do it for me anymore after 20 years in a forest farm house at the Småland border.
Caprifool ‘The Shack’ is the name of a book and the actual shack in the book was a lovely place the family in the book used to go to. After a terrible tragedy struck the family they stopped going to their retreat but a kind of miracle happened to the main character which brought him back to the shack and changed his life forever. IMO it’s a book well worth reading and possibly life changing. The author is Wm Paul Young.

Jennifer, I thought you would enjoy knowing that this video popped up in my suggested feed because I've searched for Swedish cottages in the past. I had never heard of you before. While I watched this video, even though you didn't say anything about faith, I said out loud, "I think she's a Christian!" Then I saw the next video about your morning routine, and when you pulled out your Bible first thing, I was so pleased to be right. I've since watched some of your other videos and found them encouraging. I hope you'll keep posting regular Swedish cottage updates, both for their charm and also because it's a sweet little mission field you've got here. :-)

@@JenniferCarterWriter Free? It fells , cuts and transports itself?
This video honestly made me SO HAPPY! Good on you!
easy to say this is a brave woman, what she hopefully has done is to leave a memory legacy as being authentic for her family and friends.
I think she can be more of her authentic and joyful self here. I can totally understand this and envy her doing so as I always give myself continually to others ahead my life, and now at age 60, after putting myself continually aside (and wanting to for a long time) and now life is just passing me by and I'm half depressed most of the time. I give her all the credit in the world. I hope I can do the same and show others my authentic and joyful self which I have somehow have lost along the way. Sorry, this just struck a chord within me.
It is only God who never changes dear Laura. You did well to be self giving all those years. Talk to the God of the Bible the Lord Jesus. Only He can bring true joy through saving us from our sinful condition and darkness. I have known Him now these last 40 years and He has never let me down.
@@user-mf4xc1dw5y I am a faithful believer but just like God needed to withdrawn and refresh I need that too at this point in my life.

I just watched your video again (saw it for the first time this morning). I am so impressed with your remarks -- they really resonate for me, and inspire me. "I've been investing in my retirement for many years, but in this moment I wanted to invest in happiness, and joy, and precious memories." WOW! Thanks for inspiring me. Where do you live when not in Sweden? Based on your (slight accent), I assume you are British? Thanks Jennifer,
Hi Steve, you're quite right about my accent, I live in the south of England, which I love, but Sweden has a special place in my heart, for sure!
@@JenniferCarterWriter How interesting. My Father's family is from Devon and Somerset -- and I love Cornwall too, where I have a cousin I have visited a few times. I live outside Portland, Oregon, USA. Kudos to you for your fine videos.
Those are all beautiful counties - the Cornish coastline is stunning.
So sorry for your family's loss and so happy you found joy in being the author of your life. Greetings from Oslo!
Your timing could not have been more perfect! Likewise, I moved to Maine, USA in 2019. Best thingI've ever done. Ever. Good luck to you!!!
So glad to hear you’re enjoying life, after making the decision to move!
@Maddy Grayson Hi Maddy. I spent years/decades working as a trained professional chef- a career that had me all up and down the east coast. When I could-finally- semi-retire, I needed a bit of a push. Long story short, I found what I'd imagined as my dream since 5th grade(ish), and now I'm living it. Lots of work, but in the place I love most, and doing what I love best. Some things take time (this took over 40 years to materialize), and you must be patient. And trust yourself, even if you feel a bit scared. Be flexible. Be adaptable. Be honest with yourself.
p.s. I worked w/ both a couple and their friend this past summer- all from LA. They were happy to be *here*. Good luck- and cheers from Maine!
@@eba44 what a courageous woman you are!! We often talk about moving when my husband retires (he's 62) the only concern is property taxes (we live in the suburbs outside of Chicago) are the taxes high in your area?
@@asapasiafury4100 Certainly no worse than Charlottesville-- where I moved from. And completely do-able, at least for me. Maine is not for everyone, and honestly I think many people imagine they'd love something woodsy and wild and simplified. The truth is, that if you haven't spent a good deal of time- happily- actually living in that (personal, imaginary) place, you may not do well. And at this point in life, it's not a decision to take lightly. I grew up in New England, and vacationed in Maine, so I felt like I was coming home rather than adventuring 'out'.
@Maddy Grayson we moved to new England from Angeles 20 years ago and never looked back

Hi I just ran into your video and am so sorry to hear about your loss. I completely understand your frame of thought, it is when we have a loss that we really truly understand that tomorrow is not promised. Looking forward to watching more of your videos. All the best. Love and peace ✌
I've always dreamed of doing something like buying a cottage somewhere. So sorry for all the tragedies in your live. God bless you and put your trust in Jesus Christ. Our lives our short, but eternity is long.
